Amp install on venture Question
jrcain32 replied to bikenut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My radio quit working a few weeks ago. I say radio but actually everything quit; CB, radio, AUX, head sets. The controller on the bars will not come on at all. I checked with YamaMama and a new one is $700 +/- so I purchased an AMP and an Ipod (Nano w/FM radio). I don't use the CB or head sets so not having htem is not a problem. I am planning on installing AMP and connecting into existing speakers then just plugging in the ipod when I want tunes. A friend of mine, who knows everything there is to know about audio stuff, will be doing the install. Is there any problems we need to be aware of? -
I believe my radio controller is bad. I got caught in (2) bad rain storms Monday and my controller turned itself on and I can not turn it off. It was completely off and all of a sudden it came on, stuck on 87.7 FM. I can not change the channel or change it to CB, AUX, etc. Has this happened to anyone and if so what's going on? It can't be a fuse because it comes on when I start the bike. There is no sound coming out of the speakers. I don't believe the rain is the culprit but it's strange it started during the downpour. Any ideas???

"OH the bars still contct the cover, but the factory cover is flexable and moves out of the way. That is how it works on my bike." :sign yeah that::sign yeah that:..........

I believe they are. I was in my local dealer yesterday just looking around and they had one sitting there and I rubbed my hand across the flames on the tank and I don't recall feeling any raised portion on the flames. But I will not swear to it...

On my '99 I hit the "F" count down (or up) with two bars showing. Between 7-17 I usually have to switch to reserve. I'm sure this varies on each bike. You also have a "low fuel" light that will come on to let you know to start looking for gas.

What section in WallyWorld is the gell pads? I have looked at my local WM and have not seen them. Maybe it's a regional thing...

"I didn't know about 29Dreams. That makes me wonder, how do you learn about such places? Adverts in magazines?" Well Dave I'm a local so that's how I knew about it but several members here have been there and I believe there was a M/E at 29Dreams a few years ago. (I may have this group mixed up with the 650 V-star group.) I remember meeting ECK there for the first time and I believe there were other Venturerider members there also. I don't understand how they could not be making money. On nice weekends (weather wise) there are always 200-300 bikes at any given time. Although they liked for you to purchase a membership ($29/year) it was not required to get in, only to buy something. If you were not a member you had to pay a $5/daily fee to purchase food or drink. I have been a member since March '05 and my number was 6119. I know members come and go but if you were to join in the last few weeks your number would be above 20,000. That's a lot of $$$...

For all who don't know, and for those who may have plans involving 29Dreams, they are closed for business, again. This time may be for good. As of May 25th they are in bankruptcy and are closed. Too bad. PS. I have not been on in a few days so if this is old news please forgive me...

I got a little over 6000 on my last set of 404's. I am running Michelin Commanders now and I am very pleased with them. I have nearly 3000 miles on them and the "tire tits" are still visible along the edges. No signs of wear in the middle other than road scuffing.

Drilling Stock Mufflers
jrcain32 replied to Whitlow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I did this to mine this week. I love the sound. I had RK pipes so my stock pipes were just sitting around collecting dust so I said "what the heck". One of the best mods I've made. I will keep the stock pipes with tips. They look and sound better. -
You may want to try these... http://store.adjureinc.com/outsat441fac.html Two weeks ago they had plenty in stock.

"Had a Mustang on my Nomad. Will buy another if they come out with one for the RSV. They are great seats." I will definitely be saving my pennies for one...

They should have told you to keep the one they sent as a good gift for their mistake. I would hold on to the ones they sent until you get the correct ones and then send the first set back on a slow boat to China.

"the reason i got this venture..." I too moved up to a bigger bike thinking my wife may ride. It has never happened and probably never will happen. And I'm glad, in a way. She (and I) would be absolutely miserable. She is scared to death of an accident when we are in our cage so I know on a bike she would be terrified. It must be me she is scared of. When she drives and I am the passenger, she is more aggressive than I am. It does not bother her as long as she is behind the wheel but put her in the passenger seat and it's like everyone is out to get us. She will start squirming when a car 100 foot in front of us puts on his brake, thinking I don't see it. Approching an intersection is sometimes comical. My buddies and I took a trip last year and on some of the roads we traveled she would have made me pull over and call someone to come get her. She would have never made to intire trip. I was truely thankful she was not with me. I love her to death but I am glad she does not ride with me.

I use my Progressive pump gage, the one I bought to pump up my front and rear shocks, to check my tire pressure. It has a dial gage 0-60. If it is off I'm SOL.

good luck. please post when u find the issue and fix. Thanks, and I will.

First let me thank everyone for your input. Now I will try to add to my original post to clear a few things up. Well, you do have at least one add-on to your bike: the driving lights ... Goose, the lights were on the bike when I got it so you are correct, they are add ons. They were put on by my local YAMAHA dealer who happened to be the PO. I have put on a couple of extra LED running/brake lights to the rear but they have been on for three years so I don't think they are the problem. I have put on a trailer wiring harness but it has been on for nearly two years. The only recent add-on is a Stebel horn. (The problem started around the time of the horn install.) I'm not an electrical guru but I have a couple of friends who could trace these wires in their sleep. If I have any juice problems I take it to them. The first time it happened we checked everything. The battery was new and fully charged before I installed it. It checked good as for as voltage. The charging system checked good, both on the side of the road (so to speak) and when I got home. No blown fuses. What is weird is everything has been fine for 5 months. No charging issus at all. All of a sudden the problem has returned. The only thing I have done in the last few days is put a new rear shock on and the Marshall Mod. (new antenas). I had to move some wires around and this may have attributed to the problem. I will get to the bottom of it but it may take awhile.

There is no add-on item on the bike. I first experienced this problem about 6 months ago (hence new battery) while on a trip in NC. After a day of riding the bike died when I pulled into the motel for the night. Thinking it was the battery, I bought a new one. On my way home the next day we stopped to buy gas and the bike would not start (dead battery). From then until I got home I made sure I parked on a slope so I could roll to a start. Once home I had a friend (because I'm ignorant when it come to electronics) check everything and he could not find anything out of normal. All has been good until a few days ago. Now the problem has returned.

Will it hurt anything to take the carb heater fuses out? Something is draining my new (6 months old) battery. A friend who had a YAMAHA 1100 said his was doing the same thing and he traced it to the carb heaters. He took the fuses out and all was well afterwards.

The CB unit is definitly there. Like I stated in another post, it worked to an extent before. I know the last time I messed with it, probably 8 months ago, the CB light came on (on the handlebar controller) and I got the CB-err on the display. I planned on doing the Marshall Mod and I was waiting until I did to check into it more so I have not tried it again until today. It's no big deal if it won't work because I will probably never use it. It just bugs me that it does not work.
-
Can just the CB part of the controller be faulty? The radio part still works. Owen, if you are referring to the main cable going to the CB unit, I unplugged it and plugged it back in with no luck.
-
Is there a fuse for the CB? The reason I ask is because my CB light will not come on. I have had this bike for 3 yrs. and the CB has never worked. In the past the light has always come on but I never could get past the the "CB-err". It never bothered me because I never used it. Now it does bother me. I just did the Marshall Mod and the dang thing will not even come on. I found in the manual there is an "audio" fuse but the radio works so it can't be that fuse. Any ideas?

I promise this will be the last question or two about the rear shock (from me anyway). I have a '99 RSV that I am putting a new rear shock on. I have been assured that the newer shock, that was changed starting with '05, will fit. The newer shock has, I'm assuming, a vent hose. What do I do with it? Is there a certain place it has to be routed to?
-
Hey Bob if you are wanting to sell the rear shock I would like to take it off your hands. If not I will be buying one soon. I have a '99 that needs a shock. I would rather give the money to you to use towards the conversion (or however you like) than to someone in cyber space. I will even prepay so you will have the money in hand when you go:mo money:. What do you say? I sent you a PM.
