  1. OK check this out. On the fork page they have those index nubbers a dot and another number. Well those are both index numbers, the first (on the left is the index for one side of the fork then the dot and the next number is for the same part on the other side of the fork. OK; I haven't ever seen left and right side parts shown THAT way, usu. one side ends in an even number and the other side is an odd number or it's ####a or ####b. They didn't do that with the brake caliper. The lowest price I could find at the time I ordered was $23.00 per HALF caliper, so I have seals for one side and none for the other, fortunately I didn't order 4 kits, just 3. that's why I'm frustrated.
  2. Back in the day... my Mom drove a '64 Ford Galaxie 500 XL. Beautiful car. If a radiator hose blew or a fan belt wore out, they all got replaced. If the car needed a brake job, both axles would be done. Now who the hell rebuilds ONLY 1/2 the front calipers, or only ONE of the TWO front calipers? Who the hell buys seals for only ONE SIDE of a caliper with TWO sets of pistons? Who the hell DOESN'T buy the O rings that seal the split caliper? Some jack ass at Yamaha, that's who.
  3. I have these brackets, PM me.
  4. Anyone ever heard of www.mudbrothers.com? They got that kit above for $ FOURTEEN!!! Need it or not that sure is a SCREAMIN" price! The site is a bit FUBAR... the only way you can pay for anything is pay-pal or over the phone, even though the say they take CCs the CCs links are all dead.
  5. Would you have a description of the part number? How many seals in it, maybe the sizes?
  6. My anti-dives are still installed.
  7. I ordered my brake seals 3 each of 1KT-25803-00-00 Caliper Seal Kit Made by Yamaha. The dust seal is too big, the other (thicker) seal fits fine; what's up? So, I figured out that there are two cup sizes, M7 and M8. You can't get a M8 in a M7 hole and the M7 cup is too sloppy in the M8 hole; cool how that works huh? So one side of the caliper is M8 and the other is M7. So how does the one size M7 fit the M8 hole and vice versa; and BTW the last seal kit I opened is apparently for M8 hols because the dust seals won't fit. Now after exposure to brake fluid do the dust seals shrink? I doubt it....All my kits have the same part number and they are all labeled Yamaha. Thn to Thanks to cimmer for the education! Thanks for the screw-over Yamaha.
  8. Looking for recommendation for a brand of fork oil. I have a XVZ13U I THINK i want to use 15w...
  9. When speaking to the local Yamaha Dealer Parts department they said that index number goes with the index number on the right side of the decimal. I just don't get why they even bother with that dot and the 2 index numbers, it just causes confusion, but looking at it you must be right. I talked to the local stealer yesterday and mentioned this, I got it screwed up some how, thanks for putting it so simply!
  10. Well here you go: Take a look at this page and you'll see what I'm talking about; it's how Yamaha indexes the fork assembly parts. These Yamaha fiches (at least for the Ventures) are all the same; the vendors we buy our parts from use them. There are many, many sites that use these same pages. Thanks!
  11. Index numbers( those numbers that identify a part n a"illustrated parts break down" or "exploded" view are numbers that refer you to a part in a list. Recently I ran into Index numbers like this: 5.38, WTF!? well the first number is an index number as so is the second in 5.38. So you would look at part 5 and then 38 because they go together....
  12. Am rebuilding the calipers, does the edge that sticks up on the black seals go towards the brake pads or towards the caliper? What do I do with the pink grease? I suppose it's compatible with brake fluid? I'm shocked and amazed that there is no article on overhauling the brakes!
  13. I'm having a very hard time isolating these 4 parts on the exploded parts diagram at partzilla.com. Can some one give me a hand please? Also on the parts Fitch; there are index (index numbers are associated with the part shown by the line that is drawn between the item (or part) and the index number) numbers with decimals... I don't follow that..... Also the names of the parts recommended for replacement in the service manual are not the same names used in the parts catalog. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/1988/xvz13u/front-fork
  14. The forks on on the bike, I pushed down on the handlebars while the bike was on the center stand, spring back seems normal to me...I was looking for a list of parts like seals, bushes (bushings?) that can be replaced while the fork assembly is apart. The bike is a 88 Venture (not royal) with 66k miles on it. I'm 5'7" tall, I got a 30" inseam.
  15. The rebound seems normal to me, I read the inspection requirements for the fork rebuild in the 1300 supplement manual, They do not inspire much confidence, i saw nothing on how to check the anti dive units.
  16. Fork spring length on the 88 is 18" or 456.5mm.
  17. You must be a Doc or a massage therapist!
  18. I now have all the kits required to overhaul all the master and slave cylinders on the bike's brake and clutch systems. I hope to soon receive the snap ring pliers required to get the pistons out of the cylinders soon. THEN I can progress this part of the resuscitation of the 88!
  19. Power resides on BOTH sides of the glass fuses. No indicator light on the CMU; speaking of the CMU I did replace the CMU on this (the 88) with one off the 84 because there was NO indication of life on the original CMU.
  20. Mileage 66k I didn't go over a speed bump I drove over a water drain; think of a " ( " but rotate it so it looks like a smile and put a row of this made of concrete 16" wide and placed in the center of a parking lot; think of a "V" roof, the drain would be at the bottom of the "V". I exp. the bottoming out while riding, slowly at 5 mph, while the bike was moving I'm sure the forward momentum had some effect on how fast the forks recovered. I will check tomorrow and maybe send you a vid if I can get some help... I have no idea of the condition of the anti-dive units but it seems to me that even if they were disabled the forks would not bottom out so flatly, I mean it's like there is no oil in a shock absorber, just BANG they bottom out. If the springs were any good at all there would be some sort of resilience would there?... I appreciate your input and offer of assistance!
  21. I got TWO of those Harbor Freight bike lifts, even the same color!
  22. I will check the fork spring back vitality tomorrow (Saturday) but I can tell you now that in comparison to my 83s to 85s the forks bottom out like there is VERY LITTLE spring action going on. A hefty bang is the results rolling over one of those concrete water troughs you find in asphalt parking lots at less than 5 mph; the trough is about 16" wide, and has the cross section of a soup bowl. Tomorrow will tell.... Doug
  23. If by the term "lowers" you are referring to the UN-machined part of the fork that receives the polished fork tube as it goes up and down then no, I haven't inspected the "lowers". I can't find the name "lowers" in the parts fiche so I can only assume you're referring to the tube-ish cast part the brake caliper bolts to. Thanks!
  24. I read here on the forum that the stealers (dealers) can get (or know where to get) your forks polished for about 1 hour's labor cost, seems to me you could find that re finisher yourself and take the fork tubes to them, they could prolly spec out a new seal for you (if ness.) so you don;t have to go through this again. In your prev. posts you talked about (what I guess is) a guard (protects the tubes from bug guts and stones) for the fine finish on the tubes... like a rubber bellows sort of thing? I would be interested in a rubber bellows thing.... know of a P/N that fits?
  25. So, how does this work? You get a 83 to 85 (86?) S/M and then you get the 88 supplement or is there a 88 Service Manual? I can't find a download link, just a "viewing" link here on the site, I thought that at one time there were links to download the service and owner's manuals so you could look at them off line... Is there a link for a owner's manual for the 88?
