  1. What about a starter relay from a bike that has LEDs as original equipment? The Goldwing uses LEDs; is there any reason we couldn't use that starter relay? Does Yamaha NOT have a bike that has this type relay?
  2. I found the cause for the bright/dim issue! I had some funky wiring connections behind the head light, how I did that is beyond me! I got it sorted out now THANKS!
  3. Didn't see any part numbers.
  4. Does the CMS run the timer and track the distance for blinker cancellation? Would there be a problem with the auto cancelling (from the CMS) using a LED friendly flasher in place of the OEM flasher? I think the CMS would still need to be jumpered to turn off the warnings, any one got a diagram for the jumpers? I got the battery sensor changed out to a resistor...
  5. Got the brake/running lights working; I have 1157 LEDs there, The tail light warning on the dash is now ON; I'm guessing that's because of the low volts/amps the LEDs draw yes??? The lights ARE working properly....
  6. I'm not into the toe heel thing; there is on one my Roadstar, I NEVER use the heel side as I'm afraid of un-intentional shifting due to bumps in the road. I know some people love it and some don't, and that's fine; it's just not for me.
  7. Just so y'all will sleep good tonight I wanted to let y'all know I got the amber running lights changed back to just blinkers, I have a drag specialties hitch on the bike, it has 2 lights on both side of the rear fender facing aft and 2 more on each side facing port and starboard so there are platy of running lights of the proper color back there, but now the BRAKE light is not working!
  8. Thanks Kevin for the pics! They are exactly what I needed!
  9. I have an 83.5 XVZ12DKC2; that M/N is found in the 84 catalog. I have no electric brakes, I have some LEDs on the fork, that's it. The pulsing is at any RPM so I will be looking for that needle in a haystack (bad connection) and hopefully I won't have to pull the rotor off the 85 parts bike I have. I saw a post about how to check the rotor's output a while back...
  10. I see that the "O" ring for the carbs is available from Yamaha, as are ALL the jets (if I read the listing correctly); what about the 2 gaskets inside the carb? They are NOT available from Yamaha. Any one got a source for those? If they are unavailable (from Mother Yamaha) do we know the thickness of the gasket so a proper one can be made?
  11. I am repairing the broken tabs on the lowers and side covers on my 83.5 (84) Mk. One. any pics of the tabs would be appreciated. This is so I can better shape them to the proper contours. Thanks to all in advance!
  12. When I use my blinkers the dash light go bright\dim out of sync but in time with the blinker indicator on the dash, What gives?
  13. I can't find your post with the part numbers. I probably didn't go back far enough....when you can if you could send a cut and past of your post or a link It would be appreciated!
  14. Yeah I just spent some time in hospital too; glad to be out; glad you got out too! Thanks! I'll do a search using your handle....
  15. Thanks Jeff for the legal info; so far I haven't been stopped for amber running lights but I will change it back...Why do you have to give up the self cancelling? Is it incorporated in the stock flasher? I wonder if a LED flasher w/self canx is available from Mother Yamaha or the other BIG bike makers.... Would you have the low down on what load resistors (size/value) you used and where you installed them?
  16. I got plugged pilot jets, I got 44 mpg yesterday, I divided the miles (48.8) by the gallons it took to refill the tank (1.01) and got 48 mpg but that was almost ALL freeway miles @ a very carefully controlled 60mph. There are only a couple of hills but quite a few long ups and downs that you really can't call a "hill". I just changed the oil to Lucas 10W30 synthetic, changed the NGK (stock plugs), made sure the tires were pumped up to 41 psi each, aired up the suspension too. I blew out the air filter too. I was alone on these trips. I am pleased and won't be riding at an indicated 65 to 68 mph for extended distances any more. Duh. The MPG before my little experiment was in the 30s. I had Rotella oil, plugs had about 8 k on them. tires were @ 38 and 37 psi.
  17. I'd like to convert my 84 (83.5) Royale to LEDs. I have already put 1157 bases in the rear amber blinker housings and have been running 1157s in there, this way I have amber running lights and blinkers in those housings. I'd like to install LEDs in the center RED brake light too. I know I will have to gin up a way to light the license plate, maybe a couple of 194 LEDs housed inside a small box and mounted on the clear panel on the red lens... I want LEDs in the front amber housings for running and blinkers too. I have found a LED compatible flashers on the web, some on amazon and some at superbrightlights.com. I'm thinking that even though I will be using an LED friendly flasher the hazard lights will still work as before correct? Could one of you tech people help me come up with a parts list? Any cautions and advice would be appreciated very much!
  18. I checked the slides (are you referring to the cylindrical tubes that go across the throat of each carb. and diaphragm actuated and spring loaded correct?) and they are clean, I think you might be right that something broke loose and got sucked down and blown out....
  19. You didn't mention if you aired up the tires....changed the fuel filter...at least I didn't catch it if you did...or even changed the oil.....Just pointing out other things to be considered...
  20. Anyone ever seen this filter before? Have any experience with it? I have never seen a filter made this way.... http://www.sears.com/uni-filter-nu-2267-1983-1993-yamaha-xvz/p-SPM9875118718?sid=IDx20140425xECNMPAUT02&srccode=cii_20121666&cpncode=26-407125051-2&redirectType=SRDT
  21. All; I'm Pretty sure there was no water in the gas although it's certainly possible, I just went though a nightmare of water in the gas and that experience was nothing like this; as for blowing the gas out of the carb bowls that also occurred to me but then I don't think it would have run smoothly prior to the "cough", with one or more bowls empty it seems to me it would have run pretty rough. I think the fuel pump would have corrected the empty bowls fairly fast. It certainly would have filled the bowls after more than a mile of travel at 35 mph; during this more than a mile part it didn't miss or balk at all. Now the baffle plate being loose, that makes more sense to me except it hasn't occurred again under any amount of throttle, bike lean, hard braking, quick starts, hot or cold engine temperature. Certainly some kind of anomaly... Thanks to all for the responses and ideas!
  22. A few weeks ago I rode the 83.5 VR to work; when I left work I turned the choke ON (because I have been buying High Test gas (92) ) and twisted the throttle a little and hit the starter. it cranked but no start. I repeated this a couple more times and then remembered that the book says to set the choke, DON'T give it any gas and hit the start button. So I did that and BOOM a huge noise. technically I don't think I had a back fire by definition; I think some gas got in to the exhaust and ignited; it was REALLY loud. Real back fires (IMHEXP) aren't that loud. So I left the gas alone and choked it a little and she starts...I travel about a 1/4 mile at 5 to 15 mph and then after a stop sign I started to accelerate and the bike bogs down like I created a huge vacuum leak, I back off the throttle a bit and the power comes back on, I drive another mile and try to accelerate again and it bogs down again, backing off the throttle returns the power. All the way home (26 freeway miles) I just do the limit (60 mph) or under. Getting off the freeway nearer my home I see if it will bog down again... NOW WAY...I try again and again and NO WAY will she bog down. At home I checked for popped off vacuum lines, the caps on the (BLOCK) YICS system are in place and I checked all the LARGE diaphragms on the carbs, all are intact. I drove to work today and NO PROBLEM...What cause the bike to loose power like that and then recover it self? Can I trust the bike to perform in a normal manner?
  23. I called Shell and they said the gas engine Rotella would work in motorcycles even though the label doesn't address the issue. Shell said it passes the requirements for fluid clutch use.
  24. I did my calipers, they were pretty crusty (no exaggeration) inside. I got the PINK grease and no instructions...buy yeah it's to lube the o rings but brake fluid works too. I used )))) steel wool to polish the cups and the bores in the calipers, have had no problems.
