No! We are not grumpy old men! Why, I got a notion to to just bust something now! Talking about being grumpy old men just makes me mad! Think I will go sit on the porch and yell at cars going too fast or dogs and kids in the yard or something. Grumpy old men, phooey!

With my riding being mostly commuting to work these days I often think about hanging it up. I did just that once before. I gave up riding for about five or six years when my daughter was little and I was just too busy with other obligations to ride. Then the fire re-ignited and I got right back into it. So yes, the desire to ride can go away and then come back. My fear now is that if I quit I will probably never get back to riding again. When I am on the bike, I don't even consider it. When I am just sitting around thinking about stuff I keep thinking what I could use the extra garage space for, or what I could trade the bike for. A camper, a boat, another old car maybe, or a convertible? Then I ride to work and the thought vanishes.........for awhile.

Shorter "Bagger style" windscreen vs full wind screen on RSV
Oldodge replied to Road_couch's topic in Watering Hole
I have a Baggershield on mine. I like it but I cut about 3 or 4" out of the top section so I can see over it in the rain. I run the lower part only a lot. I tend to put the top piece on for any cold/rainy weather and on the interstate type roads for a quieter ride and less buffeting. 38 degrees this morning so first it has been on in a couple weeks. -
Since you came "home" to roost, maybe call it Homer.

He rides a VTX1800 and wants to do a Daymaker LED when he does the upgrade. He said about $200. For me, I always look for the most bang for the buck that fits my criteria. For him style seems to play a larger role. I told him he should join here, he would like it, but he is a dyed in the wool Honda guy, at least right now.

Mixed bag of replies as I expected. Thank you. He decided on a new helmet. For a totally different reason, the cool factor. He says it matches his bike and personality better. Hey, whatever works for him. If it is about personality I suggested he get one of those Roman Empire brushes I see on helmets now days. This did get me thinking about my headlight again though. Darn it, I thought I was past that for now. HID/LED/Silverstar/stock???, maybe making these decisions is part of what keeps this hobby interesting.

A friend posed a question: "If I have a limited amount of money to spend and I can either buy a better headlight or a better helmet, which should I buy?" I keep thinking about this, is it wiser to spend your resources on things that protect you if things go bad, or is it wiser to spend resources on things that could keep you from getting in a bad situation in the first place? In a perfect world, you have both, prevention and preparedness. Unfortunately it isn't a perfect world and I can't answer his question. Better tires or better riding gear? Louder horn or gloves? The options are endless. I guess we prioritize without even thinking about it. I buy $100 DOT helmets and then buy premium tires. I can't justify it, it just seems right to me. I guess I will tell him to do what feels right to him, in the end he is the one that has to live with his decision. I would be interested to hear what others think on the subject of preparedness vs prevention.

I have installed W10 twice and both times did the revert back. First time I found out my printer wouldn't work on W10 so I went back. I found a work around for that. Second time I lost all my stuff. All my pics and files were nowhere to be found. Reverted back to W7 and they reappeared. I did a backup of all my files and will try again if it doesn't do it for me automatically.

Local dealer had a leftover at a great price for a few years back in the day. Would have been cool to test ride at least. It was a pretty bike but out of my league at the time.

My first bike was an XS400 Yamaha. I had a Yamaha Vision and a Yamaha Radian. I now have a 2013 RSV. I wanted one of the original 750 Virago's bad, but they were too pricey for me at the time. I had some Harley, Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki bikes too.

"Punched a hole in a case one time - you could literally look in and see gears - made a patch out of Seal All and gum wrapper tin foil - worked AWESOME!!" MacGyver's got nothing on Cowpuc! +1 on Seal All, it has sealed some pretty amazing stuff for me too. Awesome trip jfman, thanks for taking us along. -
My eyes! My eyes! I may be scarred for life!

5.5 inches here in the center of PA. We were right on the edge of the storm. Stay safe folks.

I have found the best way to never need an item again is to buy lots of it and display it prominently. Putting it away would guarantee I will need it and won't be able to find it.

Oh yeah! I rode about an hour yesterday. I have ridden this time of year before, but not nearly as comfortably. 62 degrees F. What a great Christmas present. Merry Christmas everyone.

I hope everyone is safe. We had a couple thunderstorms here in PA overnight. Nothing at all severe.

I have reached a point where I have too many "things" going on. I needed to clear the plate a little, thin the herd per say. Just not enough hours in a day to take care of family, work, maintain our home and my in-laws home, maintain the Venture, two antique cars and three daily drivers. Something needed to go. It is not a physical thing you understand, just a gnawing feeling that I am always strapped for time. So I decided to downsize to one antique car. Old cars, cars in general, were the bond that kept Dad and I close. I lost Dad last April, I think of him a lot, but letting go of the car has brought back a ton of memories. Bitttersweet memories, but it is all good. Dad never really understood why I kept the '41 and the '69. He liked to buy them, fix them up and sell them to get money for the next project. We did quite a few that way. I kept the Dart because it was the car of my dreams in my youth. I had a Road Runner, a Duster, a 'Cuda, etc, but I always wanted a 1969 Dart. The 1941 Dodge was the largest undertaking Dad and I ever did, far from a perfect car and far from what most would want. It has more of Dad and I in it than anything ever should, so when it came time to make a decision on which one to let go of it was an easy decision. Thanks Dad for helping me decide what to do yet again! Attached is a photo of my '69 Dodge Dart GT headed to a new home in West Virginia.

So glad you and Tippy are doing better. -
I could make it quit flashing easily, but getting it to light again is beyond my skill level.
