  5. I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. 89 VR about 70k on her and I have a rear wheel bearing that has worn out. what i thought would be the easy part, getting the right side slip on can off, is now apparently going to be the toughest. the joint is all rusted together and I can't get it to brake loose. I got the old muffler clamp off by twisting the head of the bolt off. the joint obviousy is rusty. I've soaked in penetrating fluid for a few days now. it looks cleaner but not budging. I've tried hitting the end with a hammer..nothing. tried heat..nothing. put a strap around the can so I could have someone pull as i hammered below...nothing. i did remove the mount bolt by the rear footrest. any help would be appreciated. I'm worried I'm going damage the collector if I rip and snort much more. can the rear wheel be dropped any lower by removing a linkage bolt? I need to get the rear axle out. thanks much Bob.
  6. great idea...I'd like to do it again. bob
  7. I got in 150 miles today...not bad for Jan. in Indiana. Got 120 last saturday too. so far a decent January.
  8. i will be there for sure. This is the first time going to this show...looking forward to it. should be a nice primer for the new riding season. bob
  9. second hampton inns. always great beds. I have had reasonable luck at comfort inns too.
  10. Member here too. I second the road side assistance and the fact they are a voice for us. They do offer some discount benefits also. I have used the 15% discount at Choice hotels a lot. personally i think it is a decent deal that is good for our lifestyle. btw you also get a monthly magazine and a cool sticker. bob
  11. BTW...some great riding in Brown county. 135 is a great ride with some great destinations nearby. http://www.storyinn.com/ http://www.nashville-indiana.com/ http://www.browncounty.com/ Nashville in Brown County is an old artist colony that has a lot of shopping and things to do/see. Not that I'm advocating this area..but we know it pretty well.
  12. we'd be interested. it sounds like fun.
  13. cool...I'll be in for a shirt or two.
  14. i thought it was kind of funny how the bike wouldn't run and he was trying to "kick start" it. hmmm kick starting that big v twin???
  15. went witht he EBC HH on the Gen 1 and it has made a real significant improvement.
  16. we've had a couple taurus' now. they have been solid cars. jsut change the transmission fluid by the book. They like it changed more often then a lot of automatics. MPG?...daily driving 19-20 mpg. road trip 25-26 mpg.
  17. Absolutely..but just like every other day for me. it is a VR day!
  18. Randy, I'd be interested. bob
  19. I've been looking for right side vent cover also. I checked with the dealer but they wanted clsoe to $170 for it. WOW! some fine person on here gave me the heads up to http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/ they seem to have the cheapest price so far I've been able to find. as I reacall it was close to $130 there. the only other idea is as mentioned is ebay but even on there I've seen them go for a good penny. bob
  20. wow...glad they are ok.
  21. did any of you ever see the episode of "Mythbusters" where they tested what would happen to a motorcyclist if they were hit by a tread blow-off by a semi? lets just say bad bad things! trust me you don't want to be in the line of fire. bob
  22. hey Don, same as Freezyrider here. Thanks Bob
  23. I do the same sort of thing but not on my venture. I do it on my Givi bags on my Vstrom. Now granted the bags are painted hi-viz green so I need something to tone them down. Having such an ugly bike can be somewhat liberating! I have to admit it is fun to collect the stickers from all over where I ride. It kind of invokes memoies of the travel cases that you used to see that show everywhere they've been. Bob
  24. OK...I jsut got off the phone with my father. He was in Erie, PA and saw in a parking lot a Steeler themed Gen 1. unfortuantately he didn't get any pictures but the description sounds like a real cool job (cusom paint and custom seat with Steeler Emblem). I was wondering if the bike belongs to anyone here? I'd love to see some pics of the bike. It does combine 2 of my top 5 favortie things you know. bob
  25. count me in for 2 also....bob
