i've had a license in several states over the years. The rule in all three of them has been the same ALWAYS STOP except on a divided hwy with a median ( i believe PA said that the median had to be a barrier). There are 100's of videos on you tube about people going around school buses.

I also get around 30 MPG most weeks. If i get a chance to run it on a trip (last week as a mater of fact) I can get the mileage up to around 40. But around town daily driving. 30 is tops. The comment earlier about octane affecting the MPG was interesting I've always used 87 in bikes (never seen 84 for sale) I'll try a few tanks of mid range 89-90 octane over the next month asn see

Added Power steering to the bike!
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So i ran the slab to get a speed run in. The bike is stable up to just under 100 MPH. where i backed off. Bike accepts inputs readily at speed. I found it very easy to hold almost any angle in a turn, the biggest difference is the "FEEL" of the weight of the front end. -

i'm not 6'7" i run 6 to 7 pounds of air in the front shocks;) i'll try the speed run later today on the way home. only hit about 75 on the way in at 5:30 am. -
I know this is late in the game, but, I had to do a similar job a while back with an under slab water pipe. Turn on all the water in the house and use a stehascope on the floor you can actually hear the water running through the pipe. mark the location the pipe (you'll find the exact location of your 90). Rent a K-12 or other concrete saw and run paralell groves over the pipe and two deeper ones on either side. The crete will bust right out in smaller chunks .

Not really but I must say that the new tire makes a world of difference! Stepped from the 150 to 130. When I first rolled the bike down the carport to the street, the front end was so light I though I was still up on the jack. Low speed handling is very light, don't get me wrong there is still feed back, but the bike reacts quicker to inputs. A few people have said it makes the bike squarely, not so! It does "DIVE" into corners quicker, or in other words comes of center easier, but holding a given radius of turn or lean angle is almost a one finger job now. I'm a big guy so I really have to dial down the pressure i've been using for the past 10 years. The bike is very Flickable also now. This morning a turn that i usually take at speed from the inside right lane to the outside left lane when making a right, I did this morning from inside to inside lane at the same speed! The U turn I have to make to get to my office from the hi way I usually take up all three lanes, now i do it in two. I hope the learning curve is quick because the steering sure is! I do have the leveling links also raising the back of the bike. I run 54 lbs in the rear shock ( I'm 285) and 6-7 lbs in the fronts. Still running factory rear shock and front springs ( front oil is next on the big list) In summation, Have to echo what others have said about using the smaller aspect ratio tire on the front! FYI I installed the Shinko 777HD front with the highest load rating bike bandit (74) had in stock. As a bonus the 130 series tires are Arimid (In 1973 DuPont was the first company to introduce a para-aramid fiber called Kevlar to the market) belted versus nylon belted on the 150 series.

New tire arrived what next?
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Found a local guy, took him the new tire and my front wheel 10 minutes and $20 mounted balanced. entire job took less than 1 hours front jack up to jack down! -
I'd have to agree with everyone else. you need a tractor. there are websites for farm equipment just like cars and bikes. It doesn't have to be compact either! Don't let the size intimidate you. An older IH with a 4 banger may seem used when you are used to a lawn tractor but they aren't hard to drive very simple to operate and will go thousands of hours of use with little to no maintenance. My buddy Fred still has an old Fordson and a 40's ford tractor both still run and get used almost monthly, now that he is a retired gentleman farmer. With a full size you have the option of a belly mower or a brush hog or even a good sized powered gang mower. With the right equipment you may find your self mowing more than 4 times a year! A full size gives you many more options as to implements also.

Been looking over the forums and trying different combos in the search bar. I can't seem to find article on changing the front tire on my 07. Any one hav a link to a DIY with pics on this chore?

I just read the review dated 2/15> Nicely written thanks Don. It seems that the Eluder/Venture seat is still a little rough, waiting for Butler etal to see about aftermarket fixes. Infotainment seems to suffer just like Ford's sync system, its not Android or Apple so its not intuitive but can be learned! No mention of the Heat problems encountered by Eluder drivers and other test rides of Ventures

Has that ride report on the new Venture been posted yet (where)

I Don't think its a price issue, a good full dress HD was always similar in price to a good mid sized car. We've had two income families since the 60's become the norm, those people competed in the market place for the same houses and cars and motorcycles as the single income family. That alone drove up prices, apples have always cost more down town than they did over the tracks. I don't think its a generational issue either, when I first took a bike on the street legally we were a very small percentage of the total ridership, if anything I think there are more bikes out there than ever. A small group of young people will find the lifestyle attractive as before. I think the real issue is longevity of motorcycles! I think sales have dropped because all the bike makers build a better machine. When i started riding in the early 70's there were no 50's bike and very few early 60'sbikes on the road, there were a lot in garages! If we look just at this board we see people riding bikes from the early 80's, which i'm sorry to say are 35 year old bikes. These are in many cases driven every day, in 1980 you didn't see any 1945 bikes on the road! In 2000 we didn't see a lot of 1965 bikes either. Since that time though we've seen more and more people pulling the old bike out of storage and fixing it up or keeping the old bike on the road. When I go to bike nights now its not uncommon to see 20 and 30 year old bikes every day. So its really a sales issue! There's not enough NEW in new bikes to attract a lot of us. -
So tired of its our fault not the criminals fault. I'd be willing bet the local PD in that city have a DO Not Chase policy, as well as a revolving door policy for JV offenders. Had the same issue here in Tampa, New mayor came in, had the police put the shotguns back in the racks next to the radio so they could be seen. Reinstated the chase policy, and arranged it so that every JV had to spend 48 hrs in jail before being booked and sent to the judge. Guess what, car theft dropped! 6702 auto thefts in 2002 versus 602 in 2012

Started out on a long winded rant and deleted it. Say no to artificial sweeteners of any kind.

Sorry so late to the party but its been a busy week. Use the poly panels! they bend enough run them so the corrugations go long ways not top to bottom cut them to 6 ft lengths. Some are translucent so you won't lose all the glorious light during the day. The sell foam tape that fits the corrugations and will sit on your ribs. then a couple of self tapping screw with the large washer and seal. you're done in a day.

Well from all the comments about heat here, and the lack of comments on other test rides. I'm wondering if there is a running change between the preproduction or demo bikes and what's out there now for "SALE" . If Mama Yama delayed delivery of the bike due to a glitching the infotainment software instead of a rolling firmware update ( my brothers HD gets them almost monthly as new phones come out) but allowed the bike to reach the street with what seems to be a HUGE issue as far as left side heat, I have to wonder why? I can't believe they are unaware of the issue. Was there some underlying need to beat the GL to the market? Is this model a STOP GAP measure till the 4 th gen comes out ( OH PLEASE MOTORCYCLE GODS). Sorry rambling thoughts but just can't wrap my head around such an obvious defect!

Don't know the particulars of your situation. Here in good old FLA we have the "stand your ground" rule. So many of the Left leaning DAs and some politicos and even LEOS are so against it, that ANY and I mean ANY incident with a gun is pushed to trial in certain jurisdictions. Eventually cases are thrown out but its the hassle in getting to that point. Recently an acquaintance was stopped due to the "usual suspects" rule A small silver Toyota was involved in a robbery about 40 miles away, he was driving a gray Ford Fusion. Pulled over and ask to consent to search, he informed the officer he had a permit and a weapon. Well handcuffs are out, three more cruisers, dogs the whole thing, his car is towed to impound ( whole other story about that racket) He lawyers up, and waits. 24 hours later the DA comes back with a plea deal with no charges filed! Give up the gun and accept a misdemeanor gun charge (loss of permit to follow) and they'll drop everything else! No other charges were filed so he refused, they tried to keep him another 48 hours, his lawyer said release now or countersuit is on the way for false arrest. Upshot was over $7K with attorney to make it all go away and force the cops to return his gun (about $5k of the $7k for that alone) endless paperwork and run around, but he felt he wanted to know the final disposition of the firearm in case something happened in the future. Imagine a gun confiscated by the cops, ballistics run under your name, gun "accidentally" goes missing and is used in a crime 10 years later. Who's name comes up in the database? I know he had some kind of legal insurance don't know with who or what kind (I have a legal representation rider on my personal liability). As you can see even if innocent charges run up quick. Even a solo plan that reimburses after the fact is better than none at all.

do you have the gold coverage as mentioned on the list or do you have a lesser policy.

Oh well not a second fan but perhaps add a fan something like these they make them for HD and Indians now. Also a lot of talk on the HD forums about ducting around the rear cylinder, at idle i think the newer HD's actually stop the rear cylinder from firing. I understand that with the HD its not a comfort thing its an engine longevity thing.

Good read that was well written. An article by a guy who rides and knows what we all look for and at. good advice on the phone deal as my eyes get weaker my phone gets bigger so i guess the Galaxy 8+ would have to stay in my shirt pocket. So next years model we need: better air ducting for the left side ( second fan?) larger phone compartment ( new blow mold no big deal) up grade the cruise control ( probably a solenoid spring) FOR THE BIGGER GUYS some kind of mount for hi way pegs ( not available yet) taller windscreen ( two sizes optional from yamaha over stock) deeper (further back) seat ( well Rick?) So one out of six can be fixed right now. The hiway pegs will take the aftermarket another 30-60 days. Rick and the other seat guys probably already have a few ideas if not patterns already cut. The top three need mama Yama to take note of. (i know those sneaky Bastiches read our site)

I've had the 777 HD on the rear for a while now. Great when its wet ( can control the power slide) very smooth. The wear well lets say this. after almost 3K miles the tread is still sharp and looks almost new. The E3 at this pint would be showing wear and have me thinking about buying one just in case. Now i'm a 300 pounder and ride it hard everyday, If i don't hit the century mark at least twice a week on the slab its because i've been driving the car.

A quick couple of questions can you confirm that the Eluder has no reverse? Second the GPS still reorients to north as up despite travel direction? Don't know how tall you are but any helmet buffeting?

A little education or advice on battery?
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
So i put the battery in. Not a lot of room in the battery box!! had to lift straight up. Need 6 hands to hold everything out of the way to drop it back in. Lots of wires. I mean a lot of wires to both terminals. I'm thinking a rainy weekend project would be to pull the tank and seat and install a remote power bar and ground bar under one of the side covers for all the accessories to be powered. I have relays for Fog lamps LEDs Horn ect. also thinking of moving all the relays to the same location. right now i have them in different places depending on the accessory. Also thinking of replacing a lot of the crimps stye connects with soldered wire and shrink tubing. It means i'll have to rewire almost everything so as to have one long run from the light horn ect to the power bar or relay. So has any one attempted this? Is there a better location? Any other suggestions or comments before I tear it up?
