Motorcycle insurance. Bring the suggestions.
baylensman replied to BigLenny's topic in Watering Hole
Back in the late 60's and early 70's it was possible to buy drivers insurance instead of car insurance in some states. that way if you drove it it was covered. The problem starting occurring when Judges allowed people with losses to go after my insurance company for renumeration on a stolen car! Believe it or not in most places if a stoned little weed head grabs your vehicle and smashes into someone causing bodily harm or even death You are liable unless you reported it stolen prior to the accident (tuff do do at 3:00 am). Your insurance will still be liable even if its reported stolen in a lot of cases. If you have no insurance at all and someone steals your car and crashes you can be held personally liable for damages. -
Motorcycle insurance. Bring the suggestions.

Actual cash value scares me! I have mine at a stated value of $8000 with and additional rider for $5000 for extras. yes i'm insuring a 2007 for $13K. But to get a similar picks with the extra goodies i've put into it as well as the options and luxury of my RSV would take that much in todays market. I'm paying $640 a year. Most insurance adjusters try to screw you over at loss time. I figured I'd get the extra coverage and start the negations at a higher level. One thing I did on a loss a few years back on a dodge truck, was take the adjuster to my pc in the house and showed him that on three different used car sites there wasn't a similar truck within 1000 miles for less than $2000 more than he was offering to total it out. I then asked to buy the truck back and rebuild it myself, he said no its already sold to a scrapper. I could have fought with him because they actually couldn't sell the truck till I signed off but i took the extra $2k. Come to find out that some yards bid on insurance totals while the ink is wet on the paperwork because the parts are so valuable. For example an intact dash ( no airbag blows outs) for a 2011 honda can bring almost $4k!!! A front bumper hit on a lot of new cars will result in a total loss due to the prices of and airbag hit. think about 2 or 3 in the dash and 1 or 2 in the doors. All the electronics as well as the soft trim adds up quick and the labor to do any interior work is just crazy. -
Expensive parts, or has this ever happened to you?

This was years ago but my brother dropped his new gold wing. Side of the road there was a 6-8" berm put his foot down and the ground was a little lower than he thought. Same deal as you at that time it was an $8K bill for what was a $10K bike that year. The worst part is he drove it for like 3 weeks before it went in the shop. all the damage was "cosmetic" but plastic is expensive. I know another guy who left the Harley dealer and made Uturn, a soccer mom tagged him lightly he almost held the bike up but just couldn't so he stepped off as it fell. That little incident resulted in a complete factory frame being put under the rest of the bike. It probably would have cost less to give him a new bike, but as they say rules is rules. -
I'm running the 777 front and rear now. I think there great on our bikes. the rear so far has outlasted another tire i've put on and still sticks like glue, I know these are touring bikes but I grew up in the dirt and I push her hard!!! I have the scars on the running boards to prove it ( not as many as the TD but they are there)

Well I found a dealer close out. a $400.00 camera system ( front and rear cameras) with loop recording GPS impact and parking sensor and weather resistant housing for $100.00. The system gets wired to the bike with both a hot and a ground as well as a trigger wire for run monitor. Wheres the best place to pick up a run sensor? can i just tap the headlight lead? or is there a wire under the tank that is better? Between the LEDs the passing lights and bag lights and horn relays the under seat is looking rather medusa like. I've been planning to clean it up but there's alway tomorrow. Now that the rains have slacked off and I can ride everyday I find the camera!!!

First let me say HAHAHAHA So to increase sales we need to: 1. Add wifi hot spot. 2. Come up with auto drive. 3. Allow bikes to be bought with student loans which the gubmint will promise to pay off. 4. Make a Harley sized Twist and go scooter and charge twice what its worth. 5. ????

Any one have feed back on a Corbin one piece? Seems to be affordable as a back up seat while I have mine redone. -
Where to put those lights?
baylensman replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If i start worrying about whats gonna break if i go down I'll never ride again. Thumbs up rubber down. If the Bike goes over I made a mistake so i'll deal with it. -
what front seat will fit my 07 RSV? can't seem to find one on eBay. I want a spare to have my original recovered.

Glad i'm not the only wit this issue. I don't want to drill holes but i have two sets of light i'd like to mount. Never thought of using the fender mount idea. i've been thinking of turning the mounts for the hi way pegs up side down and pushing them as high as they'll go so i can mount the other lights below them. -
So a good guy I had just recently meet (with in a year or so) was killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend. I had just chatted with him at my desk on Friday and he was out riding with my brother and my boss that morning! Other than being sad for the loss of a friend and the devastation to his family, I have another bone to pick. Several people saw the accident, one may have actually caught it all on video. Many were at the scene and gave statements to the police. This shows that at least in this one little part of the country folks are starting to understand that bikers are their neighbors and friends, many folks stopped to render aid or direct traffic around that shoulder. They stopped to help not to gawk. It appears that he was proceeding north on the interstate and merging where a feeder belt met the main highway (not a ramp but two lane meeting 3 and becoming a 5 lane hiway for a distance) I've riding this area hundreds of times, its not a difficult curve at all, the weather was clear. Witness statement say that an unknown at the time white car moved to the right forcing his bike to the shoulder where he lost control and left the bike and hit the guardrail post with his side. Well the police report and write up in the media the next day had 1. the type of bike wrong ( he was on a 2007 harley not a 2005 honda) 2. They said he had no helmet but witnesses said he had it on and the pieces where next to his body. 3. claimed he died of his injures at the hospital, but the paramedic pronounced him DOA at the scene and left without light and sirens. 3. blamed the accident on excessive speed despite witnesses saying he was in the right lane and being passed by others. 4. No mention of the other vehicle despite the multiple eyewitness accounts I've heard from others that this has happened to them also to caring degrees and often liability and insurance rate changes are based on police reports. So does one else have experience with this or is anyone in law enforcement that can explain it to me?

So two doctors leave their office and walk down a city street to a local bistro. they decide to sit outside and enjoy the day. After ordering they begin to watch the crowd walk by, and begin discussing the various ailments of each. One man is walking slowly down the sidewalk almost on tip toe, kind of rolling from the toe to the ball of his foot most gently as if he does want to jar something. the first doctor declares " Its obvious the man has had sex with a woman negotiable virtue and has acquired a venerial disease causing a rash and tenderness!" The second doctor says " I disagree my good fellow. His gait and gentle foot placement indicates an irrational of the rectal tissue caused by hemoriods and poor diet!" The can't agree and as the man comes abreast of them, the doctors stop him and begin to tell their tale. My college and I disagree on your diagnosis and we have agreed that the one who is wrong will pay the other for the corrective treatment! The man listens to the one doctors theory of the venereal disease, then listens closely to the other explain how it had to be hemorrhoids. The doctors awaited the mans reply. The man looked at them both and said I guess all three of us are wrong then, i thought it as just a fart.....

Cold Air Intake
baylensman replied to JimboSlice's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Actually there's a lot of evidence that the "COLD AIR INTAKE" kits do nothing for horsepower according to the dyno. For many its more noise must be more power! On some kits without adjusting all the other parameters a cCIA will actually adversely affect the power and drivability. -
i've got 777 front and rear now. the rear has been on almost a year and still has good tread. Unlike the dunlops that look and feel bald at 5K miles these are at the 4K mark and still going i may actually get more hat 5K miles out of a rear tire for the first time since I owned the bike. When i did the front I stopped over to the 130 sizes. super difference in low speed handling and just cornering in general. I will continue to buy the 777 models till they come out with a better tire.

Dead on the side of the road!!!
baylensman replied to steamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wow! what a convoluted trail this has been. Starting with a small sputter after a hard swerve to the tip over switch has been a long journey. What a great community guys doing what the can from where they are, to help a brother out!! If we all get our collectives heads wiring on something its amazing what we come up with. So I've got this idea for a warp drive engine.......... -
saw this on Facebook group from june 12th guy makes them in europe. also a link to roadster cycle/com they do a kit to convert carbs to FI for the older Vmax with no fans wiring or bungs just a tap of the #1 coil to the megasquirt ECU. Just joined the foreign guys group, will try and get details and translate as needed. EFI is the one thing I'd like on this bike.

Dead on the side of the road!!!
baylensman replied to steamer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a similar issue on my 86' After much trouble shooting and travel to different bike shops, I found that the kick stand switch was not aligned properly with the tab on the kick stand. so it would test okay, but then wouldn't allow the system to ignite. Have you tried to start and run while holding the clutch in? On some of them I know you can idle it with the stand down and in neutral. but others won't unless the clutch is depressed also, and yet more won't start at all with the stand down. -
Weird MPG horsepower issue?
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well the Horsepower may have been in my head, from not riding for a few days. The MPG is explained I had forgotten that Had to make an 80 mile round tripper the day before the rains started, it was all interest driving at 75 MPH in 5th so the average went way up. Thanks for all the advice though I did get a laser Pyrometer to check the pipes, so I now have that in my shop WOOT WOOT -
And this is why ALL motorcycles get a bad wrap
baylensman replied to BratmanXj's topic in Watering Hole
Another thing that gets us a bad wrap is the guys driving for want of a better term MINI BIKES on the road. Not twist and go 50 cc lost my license bikes, but these scaled down versions of bigger bikes with clutch and gears and all but like 14" wheels. The MOFOs ride in the bike lanes, spit lanes at speed, use the berm at stop lights and all the other things that get people pissed at bikers in general. There's one guy on a little yellow and black one that i've seen a couple of times now. If i catch him I'm going to jail, because my fist is going explain courtesy to him big time! -
So I don't mind getting caught in the rain its part of being a biker. I don't however like to start out in the rain. So i've been working on the car as we approach rainy season. Haven't ridden every day like usual. Here's the issue, nothing has been done to the bike other than sitting 3-4 days at a time instead of just overnight. Lately, i've been loafing along the road anyhow as sometimes they are damp. Well I went out yesterday and tried to pass someone, i actually had to down shift! Hmmm. well the rest of the trip I tried various punch from rolling starts in various gears. They bike seems to be down just a smidge in HP Nothing drastic just now in harley territory instead of normal rocket like acceleration. Today the fuel light came on as I was welling to work. I moved the I pod and check the mileage 1 was over 150 since last fill up. Now for me and my riding i get a max of 130 before the light usually closer to 125 week in and week out. So both things have occurred since last fill up, i use the same station as its on the correct side of the road where i make a turn. Tire the same no tune up no oil change nothing. the planned oil change a few weeks back was rained out (must do it soon getting close to 2K miles) Any ideas! Is it just a fluke?

To pay or not to pay at the pump? That is the question..
baylensman replied to snyper316's topic in VR Polls
I find it amazing that someone can walk within a few feet of me and READ a credit card in my wallet, past all the other credit cards and id cards with mag stripes on them, But when I swipe my card at the store the reader can't pick it up with out swiping it 5 or 6 times. I also have read the the ID chip on a credit card has a different number than the actually credit card just to avoid counterfeiting issues, in other words if you "read" the chip and try and enter the information online it comes back invalid, you'd actually need a new contact chip and it would have to reprogrammed and used in a machine. Not beyond the realm of most thieves but still. I read an article recently where the IRIS scanners are easy to hack also now as the algorithm used to turn an iris into a code is so simple that you only like 7 points of data to FOOL the scanner. If the thieves used the brain power and effort on a legit enterprise instead of trying to scam they 'd all probably be rich! -
Fuel Mileage Thread
baylensman replied to American's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
The reason to check mileage is to confirm proper operation and compare to other riders. riding style has a lot to do with mileage, but if you are consistently 20% poorer in MPG than others with the same bike under similar circumstances you may have an issue that needs to be looked at! I get gas when its empty (usually every friday) if I'm not getting between 120 and 140 when the fuel lights comes on i need to think about crb since air filters oil change spark plugs etc. A bad reading at fill up time makes me pay careful attention for the next couple of days to see what and where the bike is not right One time I forgot i had the battery out about 20 miles after fill up, so i good a poor reading on that tank. another time a found a leak in the fuel hose. Here again I ride almost every day and use the bike in place of a car not an adjunct to a car.
