  1. any and all of the V-4 1200-1300 cc bikes venture royale RSV RSTD just want to get start a good list of what works and what doesn't
  2. okay so I'd like to start a simple thread and maybe we could get it stickied (is that a word) to the tech page. real simple. What power adder did you use and what are the results include cost to purchase time or cost to install upside benifit (pros0 and downsides (cons) For example: did the Jason Mod. Cost about $6 in hose and tees at auto shop. took about 45 minutes all told. Pro bike "feel's" more responsive. con's don't know if I can deal with loopy idle I want to hear about jetting carbs, new exhaust, surface gap plugs, nitros turbos rear end swaps V-max heads everything.....
  3. as ethanol burns at a lower temp. just throw a pot full in the fridge for an hour. then throw in a match. The ethanol burns off leaving just gas.
  4. GM uses reclaimed metal on many of there crank and rod ends and bearings, subject to deformation under extreme conditions. A bearing moving may close an oil port. While pressure may be right on, the question is at what volume? The standard flow rate for the small block pump is between 8 and 12 GPM depending on the application, (truck car ect) and RPM. I know that a dirty oil filter will give a higher than normal pressure reading while at the same time reducing flow. At any point was the vehcile operated while on a slant (i.e. left side higher than the right) such as driving across a hill, park sideway in the yard or with two tires in a ditch for an extendied period of time. Oil pump pick up tube may have been sucking air.
  5. well thanks everyone for chiming in. That's what I think forums are all about. I don't need a battery yet, just lining up info. With the recent advances in straight up Lithium ION batteries and what they are doing in tools I was hoping that the LIPO would be that big a step over lithium at change over time, but will have to wait and see.
  6. Just feel it and can't stop. been there done that. its amazing how fast our brains work sometimes, you just start to move your foot off the board, the brain goes into hyperdrive. this is dumb, my foot is going to slip, the bike is one a hill, motor running, girlfriend on back equals face plant and embarassement. but you can't stop your foot from moving anyway AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!
  7. anyone tried these out yet. expensive but at 3 to 4 times the advertised life as well at lithiums other advantages ( lighter, last longer on single charge, charges quicker, more charge cycles, lower operating temp) may be worthwhile at changeover time
  8. What he said.
  9. 87 venture royale 96 RS and 07 RSV all were fun all were reliable all had issues. having said that the issue are rare but expensive to fix, My friends (mostly single or divorced cops) ride HD's mostly they fix em more often and spend just as much to fix, so I guess the Yamahas are that bad after all. as far as carb on the 13's well most cycle tests in print are very impressed with the response of the heated units so EFI aint really the cats meow. I must give the nod in performance to the 87 in stock trim. I spent a bit of money to get the 96 to where it is today ( gawd I miss that two wheeled rocket, hope my son is enjoying it) the 07 is the most comfortable and forgiving bike I've ever ridden. It has a lot to do with where your head is at. If i was 21 again i dont think the RSV would be my bike of choice now that i'm 55 and touring with my beautiful Girl Friends it is my choice. The best would be to have the resources to have 3 or 4 bikes in the garage to match my mood.
  10. Last time I went down....oh you mean the bike. Lets see it was chritmass eve day '08 getting off interstate, the ramp is a left exit and almost dead straight except the last 30 ft which makes a hard 90' to a light. anyway had her down to 45 mph and hit a puddle of antifreeze. I'm on my back sliding down the ramp with the bike bouncing in front of me. As i stop people are running over thinking I died. Got up went over to bike picked her up. No Freaking Shifter. Borrowed a pair of vise grips hooked em on and drove back home, got my car and was 20 min late to work. That bike is now in possesion of my son and still running strong
  11. did you read the parts about hitting the one lock nut a little more than the other to "LOCK" them together? So they don't continue to loosen.
  12. WOW! What a difference. Used the method described here using a screwdriver to tap the locking nuts around to tighten the preload. Amazing difference. Like others have reported the wobble is gone, and as dumb as it seems the low speed handling seems to have improved. I can now turn inside the lines at the parking lot at work at low speed! at road speeds the big is so stable i can go no hands for a good distance.
  13. okay so original yamaha part or one of the aftermarkets? for 07 RSV? Is there a lighted spoiler similar to the HONDA GL for our bikes? Saw the tech article on moving trunk back an inch, considering our girth as we get older I may do this, and tricks or tips missed in the article? What locktite do you all use on most bolts? I miss my 96 for the power ( it was heavily modded, carbs ,valve springs, brain box and exhaust) what is the best/least expensive power adder for the gen 2 bikes?
  14. so the PO had a new windshield installed its a shorty with a vent in the middle. I don't know why he was like 6.3 i'm 6 even the wind hits me right in the face and the wrap around from me makes the bike almost unridable for my GF at anything over 45 mph. I like the vent but it needs to be at least 6 inches taller. any suggestions?
  15. yes the radio internal circuit only needs like 1.5 to 2 volts to keep eprom up. I think the dash cluster is somewhere in the 10.8 volt range
  16. so I'm not trying to make my own. Trying to determine if its been done. About how long are the stock links. Mine look longer than what u see in service manual and other pics
  17. sell crows feet at sears
  18. I do use the whole rpm band in third gear. My bike reaches most speed limits in 2nd gear and shatters them in 3rd. 4th and 5th are anticlimatic.
  19. So if not all bikes came with cables and mic's what good is the CB? On idle, my RPM seems a bit high, on my 96 there was an obviouse knurled knob that allowed adjustment of idle speed, can't seem to find anything similar on this bike. I see some articles about v-max rears. has anyone tried going the other way? (taller) gear set. I don't know about the rest of you, but my bike loaded with me and my girl friend, has more than enough UUUMMPHH at 60MPH for at least another gear if not two. As many, if not all interstates allow 75mph and don't ticket till way north of 85 in most cases, RPM is still way higher than it needs to be for cruzing with traffic. As I proved to my doubting son yesterday when we were riding that first gear is low enough that the front tire can be lifted from a rolling start of around 10 MPH. So are there any custom gear sets for transmission or rear end? I'd like to spread the gears a bit and have a little less overlap.
  20. is touch paint available? need the dark blue found a small chip when washing do all RSV's come with intercom set up? PO didn't have any cables Best driving lights to add? PO put on a set of extended bars he did have the mirrors lifted with hexagonal extenders but he was 6'4 im 6'0 so they don't sit right for me can i get longer extenders or is there a mirror set that i can buy with longer (taller) arms? Best website/MFG for add ons and upgrades?
  21. Okay so this is number three(royal star) have had bikes since i was 8. for me first was an 87 Venture Royale second a 96 Royal star and now an '07 RSV all three had a small wobble at low speed around 27-32 mph not much you don't even notice except when one hand is off the bar, its more of an osscalation in the handle bar end. If i hold both grips or tighten up on the one i'm holding it goes away. solved it on the 87 with a super brace. the other two won't take this style brace. as the 96 was slightly warmed over (carb kit, super traps, valve springs and a dyna box it only breifly saw 27 mph so not an issue. Now i'm older and the new big RSV so i drive a bit slower around town. Multiple post here and other sites mention this, its seems to be dismissed as either a tire issue or bad front bearings. my bike has 7K miles and just went through its final dealer warranty service with new tires and brakes (thank you previous owner). So has anyone come up with a solution or do I just live with it. the problem is minor and i think is more of a harmonic issue than any weakness in the front end.
