  2. hate to bust the bubble guys but 1st gen aint faster they just seem that way because they aren't as smooth and refined an the 2nd gen bikes. its like comparing a lincoln at 30 mph (gen 2) to 30 mph on a steel wheeled skateboard( 1st gen) HAHAHAHAHA

  4. So i've been riding with some others mostly HD guys and a few gen 1 riders. I'm getting excessive brake wear when riding with them because I have to keep slowing down.

  8. that's what i needed to know. will looks for either stainless or factory oem type goodies. want a hiway light bar, trunk rack, bag topper and side rails and front fender rail. anyone have any let me kow want to start soonest on upgrades
  9. i just threw a new pioneer in the mark8 (Yes i know) but it has a little dongle haning in the glove box. i took every mp3 i had, put in on a stick (thumb drive, usb recordable media whatever) i now have around 5 gb of rock and roll at my finger tips ( plus some ray steven jeff foxworthy and clettus judd just for fun) I wonder what would fit in the fairing of the RSV???
  10. thanks for the input but missed the spirit of the question is mother yamaha's "Factory" stuff worth the sometime double price of say EMGO, Barons or Kurikan. As fas as hardware goes Lowe's nut and bolt center is less than a mile away. Again having to buy $5.00 worth of screws and washers versus $100 extra for a luggage rack? Is OEM chrome and fit that much better? I mean my old 96' never saw the inside of a garage. its been thru 6 hurricane/tropical storm direct hits summer sun where the UV index has been 10+ for 30 days straight, and I washed it once a year whether it needed it or not. the factory bag rails and lower windheild deflecter brackets are as shinny as the Super Trapp exhaust and Kurikan mug holder but all of them are starting to show wear in the nooks and crannys. I have the cash today to make my bike my way, a luxury i've never had before, with kids and house and ex wife wanting to bleed me dry. I've always wanted a long distance traveler, which means IMHO more lights, plugs in for phone, gps and compressor, carrying tools, and enough luggage that I can be comfortable holing up a few days if repairs require a shop.
  11. So thinking of adding hiway lamp. So i need a new bar. have seen the straight ones (aftermarket?) and the ones that curve upwards at the end so they hug the headlight (Yamaha?) big price difference aftermarket $49.99 Yamaha $149.99 and up. Trunk rack if I add my own support again almost $100.00 difference between Yamaha and aftermarket. If i put rails on the bags sides and bag tops will they support extra luggage ( sleeping bags or rolled goods in a tube bag) If i put on a front fender rail does the current emblem hooky thing have to go?
  12. if you don't like Florida weather,,,,wait 10 minutes it will change.
  13. yes folks looks like the RSV is gone from the 2014 line up.
  14. found this online if anyone is interested 866-YES-EXTD. Find out how easy it is to add the peace of mind of Yamaha Extended Service to your machine. seen dealer quotes betwenn $500 and $600 for 48 months haven't called mother Yamaha yet
  15. what and where is the gear dog?
  16. usually just toe tap into first with clutch in, use the brakes to decel not the gear box.
  17. here's the issue my '96 royal star, recently started under moderate to hard acceleration bikes jumps out of first into neutral just as i'm goin to shift. Maybe falls out of first is better description. If i keep the lightest pressure from my toe on the shifter it won't leave gear. One thing I noticed was that the heel toe shifter has very little free play when in first gear. I remember it having a bit more (slop) give when in gear, and my 07 RSV seems to have more freeplay in the shifter also. could the shift rod have bent or gone out of adjustment? didn't want to start monkying around with it til i got some more input
  18. I remember an add on reverse that kawasaki added to some of the old 900cc and 1000cc police cruisers. it looked like a tilt down trailer tounge fifth wheel with a chain drive on the side. ran off a small starter motor the chain rotated against a spring and drive the tounge arm down when it hit the ground the chain continued and began to turn the wheel backing the bike up slowly. when disengaged the spring lifted the tounge back up. very slick idea and tucked out of the way behind one of the bags. any updates on reversve for out bikes I swear my legs are getting shorter
  19. everyone read the post he already had the money taken back from his pay pal account. He need's to address the issue himself with UPS so he gets his money back. All the rest of the specualtion is just that it doesn't put money in his pocket. as I said in my earlier post, as the shipper YOU file a claim and dispute the proof of delviery. UPS will pay it take a little longer because they usually send a supervisor out to the drop point to do a quick scan and survey of the property. It may well be that someone followed the UPS truck waiting for such an occasion, we've had several arrest in Tampa for that behavior. your client may be honest you may be honest UPS may be honest that is what insurance is for. Your package is automaticlly insured for $100.00 hope that covers your loss
  20. sorry i didn't see your post earlier. I've taken all three of mine to Mark at Gulport cycle he has never done me wrong over the past 15 years he has rebuilt 2 sets of carbs for me. one set on the 87 one set on the 96 727-321-9214 i know the west coast may be a bit far but there it is
  21. Actually most MFG 'srecommend trickle charging for 24 hours before putting into service. My understanding is it help to remove oxidation from the plates. Also the batteries that you add acid to tend to stay in service longer, the other batterys are what is called "damp" charged and do not last as long. Always check the MFG date on the battery you buy it is etched or burnt into the case somewhere "NOT THE SERVICE STICKER ON TOP" Most battery vendors turn over stock very quickly so most have fresh batteries, however a Big box store (Sears, JC penny Kmart Wal-Mart ect) with attached auto centers turn CAR batteries very quickly but many have POWER SPORT batteries sitting on the shelf for two or more years
  22. having been in the shipping of car parts business since the late 70's let me say this. As the shipper call UPS and start a claim. If they say they have delivery confirmation, dispute it! tell them you need proof of delivery. If they don't have a sig they will pay. Up to the insured amount, they will require proof of replacement value (use your e-bay listing and others) it may take 3 to 4 weeks, but every time they claimed it was dropped they paid me and I shipped dozens of packages a day.
  23. Years back, early 80's the group of us who lived in PA at the time, had a run we'd do once a month or so that hits 4 or 5 DQ's in a night, started in Collegeville to meet up and a soda, then off to Pennsburg for burgers, then over to Quakertown for desert usually ended up in Harleysville to play a round of Miniature golf around 11 or so:backinmyday:
  24. I fill every battery I buy( i usually pick them up for friends as I have an old shop accountat the intersate dealer). most of the newer ones actually come with a bottle that has 6 nipples to fill every cell simultaneously, then the cap is actually a solid bar that closes the cells and has one tabs so it can't be reopened
