I came down with whatever the current respiratory disease is, a few weeks back. She browbeat me after the third day to go to the doctor. Being a man i refused the first day, but I relented on the second day of her insistent worry over my health. I got a couple of prescriptions for the coughing and the nasal congestion and a 10 day course of A/B. Well she came down with the same thing the day after I went to the doc, I said lets go I'll drive, she refused and said its just a little cold. well a week later I took her to the doc and he said why did you wait so long!! she got more stuff than me, missed two days of work and have been moping around because she can't breath for a week now! I'm saving this little incident and pulling it out at the right moment for an I told you so.

I too am a fan of these bulbs! True the back scatter is less so the flood effect seems less intense that with a HID or Halogen bulb, but I find that with out that bright puddle of light in front of me everything that aint road stands out rather well. I've heard similar comments from guys that have bikes with factory installed LEDS it just take a little to get used to. That big flat field of yellow/white light looks like its doing a good job but with the less i feel there is such more contrast. Also most auto MFGS and a lot of newer bikes have this lighting stock.

Christmas Songs, one of my favorites. You got one? Two? 100?
baylensman replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
my new fave as i used to drive this particular stretch of road 20 or more times a week. -
Yamaha also produced the V-6 found in the ford Tarus SHO models. which briefly held the title of the worlds quickest (acceleration) 4 door sedan at 0-60 in 6.6 seconds. Not a supercar by todays standards but still respectable.

No new Star ventures for 2019

The whine is getting annoying
baylensman replied to Treb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was watching one the car rebuild shows over the weekend. They were rebuilding a 72 GS buick but the customer wanted a manual trans. The MFG of the replacement transmissions engineered the whine into their cases to mimic the "old school" sound from the 60 and 70's era! So i'm sure it can be machined out. However it has never bothered me enough on the 07 to worry about. Now the chirp at low speed from my front brakes may cause me to sell the bike on the other coast...its driving me crazy i've had the calipers off and on 4 times rotated the brake pads and tightened the shield on the rotors but it is still there until i hit the brake. It goes away then comes back at low speed until i firmly apply the brake again, if i release the brake and keep rolling in traffic i can go about 500 feet before it comes back. I guess next is to trash the new pads and try a different brand. -
No new Star ventures for 2019
baylensman replied to ZOEYDOG's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
i too have heard (read0 it was a hoax somewhere, as the actual release date on the 2018 was pushed so far back due to programing issues with the infotainment system, Yamaha maybe eating for the 2019 release to early in the year say late January or early February. I suppose time will tell, perhaps all the marketing surveys were wrong and the folks that were going to buy a v twin did either Harley Indian or one of the other offerings like the Kawasaki and Suzuki and the rest were waiting for a new gee whiz hi tech wonder from mama yama and all the got was the downsized goldwing!! -
Today i was putting on, finishing touches on new LED and couldn't find the magnetic bowl to hold the screws. It was still on the passenger floor board from last servicing ( 2 weeks and 130 miles ago)

I wonder if the new venture will get the same update

Have big bikes come to this?? The big announcement this year is improved SOFTWARE!!!!! Remember those days of adding a few ponies to the number or way back when some bikes went from 4 speeds to 5 and yet others (honda 360 ) went to six speeds. Bikes that quicker Bikes got more mileage. Bikes got more load capacity for two up riders. The biggest tech announcement was self canceling turn signals! (which hardly ever worked) The bike MFG are aiming at millennials I'm telling you know. Pretty soon we have the USB port wars on bikes! Maybe even the big brag will be which infotainment system had more GB or storage and CC and Foot Pounds will be little tiny asterix marked number buried in the brochure somewhere. -
A great example is the local (Tampa) airport. it was originally built and laid out in swamp land far to the north and west of the city. over the past 30 years business (air freight and such) grew around it. leading to better roads, so now we get smaller business (dinners car repairs etc) Followed closely by cheap apartments and tract homes. Now we have bigger money moving in and tract homes and apartments being torn down for mcMansions. Now the hot polio wants the airport moved from "their" beautiful community! Actually in my old home town we had a Blue club( girls and beer) open out in the sticks i mean 5 miles or so after the last streetlamp on a dusty two lane black top. Cows would wander the street. Well a while after the club opens a guy opens a convince store across from the pub. Made a fortune selling coffee breath mints and very expensive flowers! Well with in a year a gas station and a burger shack. developer buys a farmer out and drops in tract homes and all of sudden the nudie bar is ordinated out as being to close to a family community. with in a year of the pub closing so di the gas station and convince store. rules is rules and are made by them that don't have to follow them.

Passenger drink holders
baylensman replied to jltims's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Let me say this about a drink holder. I had a Kurican on the Venture and something from the boat shop of the tour Deluxe. Mine was great for the first couple of rides. After a few months I found I never carried a drink anymore. Coffee always seemed to get cold quick even with an insulated cup, soda and water or even gator aid quickly reach air temp and seem to be FLAT. Any cup with a closed lid is a PITA to drink from with only one hand, and anything open has a tendency to have liquid wicked out by the venturi effect over the open lid. Also the whole idea of adding a reason to take a hand and some of my concentration off the bike and bars seems counter productive as I get older! Now when she or I got a little dry its time to pull over and stretch a bit any how. I've removed mine and used the clamp to hold the head unit for my front and rear view cameras. -
Over the past month I believe there have been multiple threads about tires and motor oil and other wear items on the RSV. Now I know this is an open group, but when someone asks a question about replacing a wear items lets stick to the model/generation year in question. Tires that worked well on your 920 virago aren't necessarily the best tire for a Venture. We all can agree that on the RSV (not the road star or others ) the Bridgestones and dunlops of the period were less than adequate! Several folks have stated that the Shinko 777 works well on the RSV now just because you tore one up on your 1000cc ninja doesn't negate their use on an RSV. The argument goes for spark plugs yes champions make your lawn mower do wheelies but NGKs are better in the RSV. Vintage Oilzum worked great in grand dads Studebaker but the modern synthetic 20/50 wet clutch oil is best for our bikes. Arguing against the group because you had a bad experience driving your cousins girlfriends little brother's vintage Norton while running Avon Cobras doesn't mean the tire suck across the board! When a newbie reacts out lets not start a fight in church about what we think is best and down play everyone else because of other brand/generation/year experiences So on the RSV especially the 2nd generation the following: Shinkos E4's Venom and Cobra all seem to be high up there with Michelins and the newer dunlops close behind. Shell rotella and mobil 1 both seem to top everyone's lists for oil Ngk's seem far superior over everything else. Broview S7's as the led of choice (so far) technology changes daily on bulbs. The same with recommended maintenance. I change my oil whenever the trans feels a little sticky or hard to shift (about 1500-200 miles or every three months) Air filters get pulled and cleaned once a year. Seam foam every December 1st. I run 5 lbs from shock 45 lbs rear shock and 37PSI cold both front and rear tires. Now i ride almost every day to and from work in Florida short trips only. Those of you that only run 2 weekends a month but longer trips your maintenance will be different. running two up may change your pressures. Just remember the Galaxy blue bikes are the prettyiest

I couldn't see the second bike!

Back in my day: Sumer vacation meant as long as my chores were done I was free. Out the door at sun up with a rifle and pocket knife, home before dark no questions. I was the remote control. Chopped and spit wood every weekend in september and october, and stacked it on the back porch. The neighbor lady was as likely to paddle your butt as your mom was was. If mom found out the neighbor paddled you, she paddled you again for embarrassing her. 5 kids in the back seat was normal We tried to hide the holes in our jeans, or sewed them shut. Mom would Re dye jeans if they got faded before they wore out. The school nurse called home every time I missed school.

Had the same issue with the car over the weekend. The newer batteries give little or no warning. car cranked okay thursday night then wouldn't start the car friday morning, put a volt meter on it 9.6 volts. charged it for and hour read 13.5 volts pulled the charger then watched the voltage drop 1/10 volt every 2-3 seconds under 10 volts in under a minute! Charged it again (hot charge 80 amps) started it up ran right to Oreilly's $140.00 later

So i had a bird of some sort that wanted to cross the hi-way at the same height as my windshield. I'm impressed with the F4 (see photos I hope) just a scratch, the impact flexed the shield quite a bit, and it was defiantly brown trousers time. It the third time i've been hit by a bird since a started riding LEGALY on the street at 16, 44 years ago.

Died a quick death
baylensman replied to The Mayor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
As you rode it in to the trailer I'd check the kick stand switch, that little hump may have made the stand drop just enough so you get no part condition. -
check camping world for a 12 volt hair dryer!

I am a member of several lincoln forums also as it is my car of choice. I currently drive a 96 MK8. First the dash lights are powered thru the headlight switch and it is a know weak point check rock auto and eBay can be had for under $50.00 sometimes $25.00. the heat issue is what is called a BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR issue and most 97 and up lincolns experience this. the glen door that diverts the air over the heater core is stuck in the A/C or no heat position. Do a google search for lincoln blend door and you'll find a ton of fixes, its cheap but labor intensive. The air bag leak is also a common problem, there are some aftermarket pumps that may give you a quicker lift, but most of us simple pull the rear bags and convert to coil over rear springs (ARNOT SUSPENSION) Good luck with the Connie..

Going to add a camera system
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I now know why it was on closeout!! the cameras are almost identical only the bracket is different. the camera plus into a cable that runs the length of the bike and each cable camera is unique. However the cameras are not marked front and rear. no big deal right. well plugged it all together everything works on the bench. Off comes the tank the front seat the rear seat and drivers back rest. out come the windshield then i split the fairing, parts scattered all over the car port and its close to 100' in the shade. I run the cables tie into the system for the trigger wire (turns camera on when key is on) button everything back up. Mount the view finder on the bars and turnip on! it all works but evidently there is a front and rear camera one has the image reversed left to right. Well I had a 50/50 change guess which way i guessed! So next week out it comes and flip the cameras front to rear and rear run the cables the other way.
