Okay I haven't seen the bike yet. Boychild called while I was out of town. 96 RS(A) Lights work, neutral light comes on, when you hit the start a single CLICK from lower left side. Tried a jump same issue. Supposedly charged the battery, same issue. Am I looking at a solenoid failure? Or the dreaded ignition switch by pass remedy? Heading over later today to look at, try to fix, shoot it!

Well I have 12K on the bike. Previous owner was a bit of a neebish and had the bike to mother Yamaha twice a year! I assumed that between them all maintenance has been up to date. By the look of the oil tires brakes and some other things they did. My bike has been getting bad milage for about 6 months, I assumed its my driving style and short trips ( I go 3 miles one way to work). The bike has always been very torque, and a blast to drive. After reading here on these pages about mileage, I decided to take the bike to a guy and have the floats checked and the carbs synched. After a few minutes on the phone my guy had basically told me off! He said if I'm gonna get info from the internet (here) take my lap top out to the bike and let it fix it for me.......He was adamant that float levels do not change unless someone changes them or I get contaminated fuel. He also has the factory tool set and a sync meter, and said that was unlikely also on a bike with on 12 k miles. Well all said and done I came back to this site and read some more, took the tablet out to the bike and checked the air cleaners. Well I ordered and installed a set of K&N filters!

RSV Miles per Gallon, Speeds, and Odometer Errors
baylensman replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
So, I get a consistent 32 mpg!! With the 07 RSV and the 96RSTD. Having said that 99% of my riding is basic Transpo to and from work and running round town, my average trip length is 5 miles or less. If I do any traveling over that I can usually figure around 35MPG. However, I ride it like I stole it everyday!!! I grew up riding a dirt bike over hill and dale, I ride the big bike the same way. I'm not a lane changer but I do twist the grip as far as it will go frequently. If I calm down a bit or ride with the GF my mileage improves a tick. -

Tie a string around the filler neck attach to a door knob and slam door? -
PO told me he had put on the tallest risers and bars he could without changing cables. Is there a kit out there to put higher bars (mid rise not ape hangers) on a RSV? If not what would I need to stretch?

:7_6_3[1]:Looking for a set of rotor covers similar to the ones on a Gold wing. Anything like that for a RSV?

Perhaps adding forum entitled "looking for" it would keep the watering hole a little cleaner. A forum for us that are looking for parts.

New Venture related corn hole boards arrived today
baylensman replied to dingy's topic in Watering Hole
When my girl moved to FL and she saw her first Cornhole Tournament sign! I thought she was coming right out of the car. It means something different up, north that's for sure -
I always thought the same thing:7_6_3[1]: with both of my RS's but like everyone says they love the revs and you'll get better MPG keeping the rev's up in all gears. I was getting a consistent 35 mpg around town shifting into 5th at 50 or so. Now I rarely get out of third at that speed and my fuel economy is around 47

Bike hits car that cut him off, rider cartwheels to safety and fame
baylensman replied to syscrusher's topic in Watering Hole
this happened right up the street. The driver of the car was cited for making a left turn on RED cycle rider did not have motorcycle endorsement. Multiple accidents at that intersection monthly. FHP needs to review the timing of the lights there -
guns knives brass knuckles are all tool of the right!!! The left side is for talking and understanding feelings, until the first time you are mugged. Then you move to the right

Lost Seat Hold Down Nut Replacement - 2nd Gen
baylensman replied to KeithR's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
I put a drop of blue loctite on the threads of the seat. Ran a wing nut on then back off and let dry. Then reinstall seat the dried loctite is just enough to prevent the wing nuts (lowes $0.44 each) from coming loose
