I don't know about Left over Ventures but I did find this http://www.cycletrader.com/dealers/Cycle-Springs-Powersports-739528/listing/2014-Yamaha-Raider-SCL-119345801 at a local dealer

Well I'm on the west coast of the east coast or the Gulf side of FLorida. It appears that we may get some wind later this week. but those of you on the Atlantic side of the state and further north Please be careful!! Seen so much of it over here after the last storm. Don't assume down power lines are dead! Don't trust puddles that go from curb to curb. (you may think the street is level but it ain't) Its not that the wind is blowing, Its what the wind is blowing. ( good tires and high ground won't stop a picnic table traveling at 40 mph in the wind!! What ever is out there isn't as important as You and Your family..Hunker down and wait for the all clear! I've enjoyed conversing with you all over the past couple of years let's keep it going for many more. praying for you all.

Can't say i've gone much over the century mark on this one. I did hold the old 850 triple at 125mph for over 12 miles on the Pennsy turnpike making a speed run home one weekend. Should have the look on the toll takers face when she caught the time stamps... booth to booth in just under 12 minutes. Gawd I was such a squid 30 years ago!

I'm actually thinking of jumping models. the Raider is really tugging at me!! I could get the Raider for daily driving keep the Venture for weekend rides with my sweetie and hold off on another tour bike till full retirement, that give MOM YAM a few more years to fill my wish list LOL -
So based on the recomendations here I widened my search. Now I have another question. on the SHINKO tires the 230 series is listed as a 80 load rateing and a V speed.Aramid belting DESIGNED FOR LONG DISTANCE, HIGH SPEED RIDING the 777 is list as 80 and H.Reinforced carcass. [*=left]GREAT ECONOMY TOURING TIRES DESIGNED IN SIZES TO FIT MOST CRUISERS the write up calls the 777 an encomy cruiser tire, however on three different websites it is $10 to $20 more than the 230? Does it gets its "economy" from lasting longer? or is that just market speak? anyone have experience with both or either?

This is so close to my wish list its scary! A few minor changes. An Electronic cruise control that works!!! fully interfaceble blue tooth system for my phone. (any brand no I phone only crap) blue tooth headsets interfaced to entertainment system built in sat nav and sat radio. TPS monitor a big MFD with Tach/Speedo as main display then down the sides volt meter digital in volts, gas guage in gallons (liters for our canuck friends), TPS read out front and rear in PSI (kilopascal for nothern types) Oil pressure, gear shift indicator. standard fog/passing/hiway lamps standard foot rest on the engine guards Lighted (l.e.d.) caliper cover front Push button electric reverse ( pusing an 800lb bike up hill back words in cowboy boots sucks!!!!!!) Luggage rack for trunk and side bags. Hidden antennas Bring back the on board air controller for the suspension. MSRP of around $17500.00 ( 0% financing for 6 years with trade in of any venture) OPTIONS EVERY YEAR SO WE CAN MAKE THESE OURS!!!!! Color options every year. ( more than one color and black) upgrade for two tone paint. ( your color over silver or black) upgrade option to leather seats in colors (black tan horse hide ect) upgrade to full chrome on all exposed parts. NO Aluminum showing upgrade to euro black finish as above. upgrade to brush stainless finish as above. upgrade to white wall tires front and rear. -
i'll say this it gets there quickly! However if you get too much over the century mark. you can tell its not a high speed bike!

anyone had experience with the IRC will flare tires? only found a few reviews elsewhere. Pretty new to market. just wondering, before i get serious about a new rear, thought i'd check the options. 90% of my riding is one up but i'm a big boy 290#s right now. I've got harley pipes and KN filters. Its only 6 miles to work and i hit triple digits two or three times a week. I ride it like I stole it all the time. The last Elite is getting close to retirement.

2nd gen kick stand
baylensman replied to kevin-vic-b.c.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Checking play, with the stand in the up position (riding) i have almost zero play in and out ( that would be up and down at the park postition), but when swinging it down (parked) there is not quite 1/2" (thats a 1/4" up and 1/4" down or less when pressure applied) of play at the wire loop. So i checked my bro's '15 Harley and my sons '96 yamaha both are similar no play in the up position but some small play in the down position. I would think some play would be necessary ( how much?) as when you get off the bike the suspension unloads and the angle would have to change, then change back again when you got on. -
So with the coming election, several celebrity types have promised to leave the country depending on who wins or loses. I got to thinking about Y2K, remember people having go bags and bug out plans? Well in the event of the Zombie Apocalypse, or another two term democrat, would a bike make a good bug out vehicle?. If so what kind of bike? My thoughts are this. Definetly air cooled. Narrow bars but longer frame, to hang bags on. Enough power to hit the century mark in the event you need to. Able to run on cheap gas ( no 2 strokes). Proven record of long term running with little maintenance. so ending up with an older bike I guess most of todays dirt bikes have small radiators ( i wonder if this is really a drawback in a post apocalyptic world?) BMW 600 CC with full bag package. Harley 750cc dirt racer. extended seat frame and bags Yamaha XT 500 with fender rack and bags If the radiator is not a big deal perhaps the Bolt? your thoughts gentlemen?

You misunderstand. the light are very bright when turned on! its when it gets damp, they come on by themselves!!!! even with the key in the house the l.e.d.s have a dim glow when very damp outside or during wind blow rain.

The driving lights that do not have an issue i used a ring terminal under a screw i removed and sanded the frame under the screw head. The lights with issues are both direct ground to the battery, I did this because originally i was going to use the remote key fob that came with the lights, but i never installed the processor for them. The projectors in the rear are so close to the battery i also ran that ground wire to the battery. Maybe i'll take both to the frame this weekend. thanks for the input'
-
So here is the issue. i installed a barons switch block a few years back. to this i added l.e.d. lights all over the bike in green. I added front hi way/passing lamps also. The third switch is for two projecter l.e.d.s under the saddle bags that throw a yamaha logo on the ground. When it gets wet (bike on car port not fully enclosed) the green leds and the projectors will come on very dim. if it hit the switch and turn them on then turn them off they go out, for a while. on very humid evenings the projecters come on dimly but not the green leds every where else. the front passing lamps do not have this issue. i've removed the tank and the seat several times trying to find a bare wire or a short. i know that the LEDs will shine with just a microwatt of power, so i'm thinking somewhere i'm getting a little galvanic action. just can't find where. next step is to rip out all the LEDS buy new ones and rewire the hole blasted thing unless someone here has an idea thanks for thinking about it

Rider Magazine talks about "Darksiding"
baylensman replied to hi 05 silver's topic in The Darksiders
Air pressure is the key. My brother is a fanatic about PSI he has blue tooth valve caps that let him know when the pressure drops. He checks with a guage every trip out of the garage. He got over 34K miles on his original tires on his ultra glide over the past two years. I've been thru four tires in the same millage and looking for my fifth (hence reading here) I check the air with a gauge 3 times. When i visualy see the rear tire and it looks low, when i hit a corner hard and it feels a little squirrelly, after reading about tire pressure being a issue. So with this tire i'm going to try the blue tooth valve thingie ( on amazon i think) and be a little more vigilant and see if it helps. Having said that and having ridden bikes since i was eight years old( 50 years ago) on my motocrosser with lights tru my street bikes up to my third venture i've never gotten more thatn about 6k per tire ever! I am close to 300lbs and been 250 or more since i was 18 and i ride it like i stole it everyday. -
Carbtune Usage (A success!)
baylensman replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
What? chrome is the reason for motorcycles!!! Its a way for us to show off. If I didn't chrome everything people wouldn't notice how really really good looking I am:rotf: -

Still no new Venture
baylensman replied to Bert2006's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Star motorcycles is done, kaput no more. Looming legislative emmisions changes have delayed, big displacement bike. Cross plane engine in the 1850-1950 cc range planned with EFI, CA emissions are slowing roll out, standards may change requiring new EPROMS, and head spacer change to get under HC limits. With the end of the "STAR" line ,name change for top of the line touring bike is also being considered ( Open Road and Sky Tour are the two most mentioned) . Frame engine trans is done (except note above) as are accessories. Two protypes with laced wheels have been seen on proving grounds. Frame mounted fairing, integrated bags and trunk on one, the other the bags and trunk are separated by a panel of some sort (seen from about 500 meters away) -
After the tear down and replacing of cylinder head gaskets, I have a small issue. there seems to be and intermittent miss and weak spark on one cylinder. I've double checked the connections and the plug and plug wire. Is it possible that the coil could have been internally damaged? or Is there something silly I've over looked that may be causing this issue?
-
So I finally got a new master cylinder on the boys bike. rebuilt the clutch slave and adjusted the linkage as good as I could. If I slam the shifter down into first and keep pressure on it, I can use first gear. if I take the pressure off the shifter for even a split second its jumps right out of gear. I'm prepared to tear it down, I just need to know what I should be looking for/at to adjust or replace?

96 RSA model tranny issue
baylensman replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Anyone? This must be the first post ever without a response -
I post before about the trans on my old bike jumping out of first.http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?92546-96-RSA-tranny Well now the bike is a certified 4 speed. It will not stay or motivate at all in first, I am assuming the "dog" or "pawl" mentioned before is the issue. Any ideas before I tear this apart again? What is the most like parts I will need to repair the shifting issue? Is there an adjustment I should try first ?

I love the bag rails on mine. Just a warning local 5.0 pulled me over for not having reflectors on side of bike. You have to take the stock ones off the fit the rails. I went too bicycle shop and got two under seat reflects for $2.49 each and put them in place on the rail.

in answer to the question YES. my old 96 that my son still rides. Dyna box allow a change to a more aggressive timing curve. rejetted the 28 mm carbs(later models had 32mm), added super trap 4-2 headers with fish tails. Moved the redline up to about 6800 rpm with the dyna box. This allowed me to run first to about 47 mph and not hit that damn reve limiter so i could hit 2nd right in the sweet spot and rocket past 65, then 3rd way up in the 90's, in 4th the speedo hit the pin and it still would pull and accelerate in 5th. never had anyone next to me at those speeds to see what their speedo read, but by mile markers on 75 south of Naples well over 140MPH. I could leg it light to light around town with the CBR 's and GS's until we hit the curves. Did some checking about moving the redline up to 7500 rpm but the valve springs just won't take it, it would require high pressure springs out of a V-max, yamaha still sells them. On the Venture could probably do the same work on the motor but with all the fairings and gear don't think you could get it much over 115MPH. Mine feels like its about to loose it around 105MPH and gets real squirelly , but on a TC/TD with no or a cut down windshield no sweat.

no context needed as we don't want to start a flame war here. I just reread some posts this week, getting ready for some maintenance. There were a few where the original poster basically asked for help/advice about an issue then proceeded over the next 5 pages of posts to tell everyone they were wrong with out trying any of the suggested fixes, because he knew better. Last post he still had the issue and was still asking for advice.
