Maybe I should rethink this Dragonslayer thing

That is why I keep trying to watch! Haven't see one yet!! -
So I'm looking for new helmets for us both. I have several requirements and I want to see if anyone has a suggestion. 1. Lightweight. thinking half helmet or Polo style. 2. Must accept a visor. 3. Straps must be thin and not padded 4. Sits low on head not on top of head. 5. Lots of airflow its hot! 6. prefer solid color (Blue) instead of carbon fiber look or skulls/flowers/tombstone 7. Don't want to pay $175+ on an HTC Right now i'm looking at the t-50's but the straps are padded, in florida I don't want that much padding on my ears or cheeks. Skid lids don't have provisions for snap on visors. Some of the others look okay but the customer review complain of sitting though on the head making the helmet lift at speed.

Top bolt of rear shock wont budge.

What he said the nut must come off first then the bolt will tap out from the other side, reinstall the bolt making sure it hits the locking tabs then just tighten the nut. Trying to turn the bolt won't work!!!!! -

I've tried several times to get into GoT, but i haven't made it past episode 4 of season 1 before i give up. I've spot watched a few other episodes but it just doesn't work for me. Then again I've tried reading G.R.R. Martin's fiction over the years and it just doesn't work for me either. Although i've read sci-fi fi and fantssay spanning the last century from asimov to zelazny. This latest round my GF watched with me and she's a big Fantasy fan. Her response was "do they do anything other than F@#K or FIGHT?" -
Remember when digits where fingers? Now it a phone number. Person to person call! Collect call! Here's a dime call someone who cares? (This one gets blank stares from any one under thirty) Whats a phone booth? First aider, ambulance personnel, paramedics are now EMTs Firemen are now first responders? ( along with cops and EMTS) Pants the showed your socks were "Floods" now its cholo wear? Big heavy black plastic framed glasses were for geeks and lady librarians now there fashion eyewear? Sneakers or tennis shoes are now athletic wear? ( that's what we used to call a jock strap)

we'll have to get together. your about an hour-ish north of Largo.

In the same vein for us it was "what's the scoop" versus them its now "whats the 411"! I used to get Sub sandwiches now i'm told to go get a couple of foot longs! A coffee to go has changed to grab a starbucks? Microwaves are Nukers? and for Gawd sakes I'm a biker not a scoot jock!! I work with a lot of the next gen people or even the ones after that. Most of the work force is 20 years or more younger than me. It amazing how much of what they say I understand, but the blank looks upon occasion when I say what Think is a normal expressions amazing.

All right i'll call and get some pics -
So I was watching a youtube video, and I heard the guy shooting the accident yell "I got it on tape" since when? we still use "got in on tape" although I can't remember the last time I bought a tape, or even seen a tape. How about this one "Go dial the phone" no dial anymore you punch in numbers now. "film at 11" what film is video. "live via satellite" nope now its fiber cable and cell baby, or at least old hat so its no longer a brag! I'm sure there are others out there, some where we have coopted an old term to mean something new, or perhaps using an old word for something completely different.

PUC I've had a similar experience, although with my old XS850 triple. Several of the guys sitting around the picnic table at the Apt complex talking bikes. One asked Why i slipped my clutch so much going out the lane. The others all nodded and agreed. I told them flat out My clutch doesn't slip I was running thru 3 gears and hitting 80MPH before slowing down for the corner. The ALL called BS. So i said follow me, so an assortment of bikes and car lined up and tried to chase me down the lane to the main road. what followed was a 20 mile jaunt thru the country side. with them suggesting various places to line up with straight aways a little longer so they could get up to speed, various time I waited for them to all leave then powered right past them. displacement is okay but you need the tech behind it. Thats why the little 5.0 liter Mustang is running with the 5.7 liter cameras and 6.2 liter dodges. All thru out the pony car wars ford gave away a half liter or more and stayed in the field.

So I watched the third video in the series from RIDERS DOMAIN. It appears that heat is not an issue as previously thought. It seems the few test rides were done on extremely warm days, where picking a degree or two would be the straw that breaks the back so to speak. In the video the passenger mentions having the air wings folding out to block the wind as it was getting chilly! Driver commented that heated grips and seat were nice as they rode. So take away one of the black marks. Both hi speed and low speed handling are spot on. The appearance is growing on me day by day. May end up getting a divorce before the marriage here is i go buy a new bike!

I put clear nail polish on the screws and let it dry. Acts like a NY-LOC. Did the bag lid screws and the wing nuts under the seat -
The first thing we used to do with a car in this situation, was to turnoff the radio and the lights then pull the negative cable. ECM will reflash itself from onboard storage, if the flash tune is blank but not if corrupted. When an ECM refresh it self it takes several minutes after the first start to readapt. FORDS do this the best but all cars do it. The ECM takes note of various sensors and adjusts time advance fuel management fan temp kick ons and lottos other factors and established a set of parameters for that vehicle. The timing advance on a car with 80K miles is a degree or two different than one with 5K miles, Same with fuel tables and feed back from downstreamO2 sensors my 137K mile Lincoln is running a bit richer than the GF 2 year old escape with 13K miles. The humming may have been the fan motor going bad, it may have fused itself causing to go to ground. bad ground will throw and ECM out of wack pretty fast. Not sure what your issue is/was I hope you let us know.

Remember the rear speakers have their own volume control on the Left had side. as well as a fader control on the handle bar mounted control I run mine at R4 to get the balance right at speed. After that ITS ONLY ROCK AND ROLL FOR ME

Need a little guidance
baylensman replied to Statussymbol's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
AT 60 MPH Grabbing a handful of throttle will give you the bumps. A little less action and it will accelerate smoother. I've personally run 3rd to over 80 before banging 4th. I save 5th for times when i'm on a stretch of road where i know i can go 65 or more for a least a mile, so I don't use it around town often. I use the choke even in florida for Cold engine starts in the morning, but only for about 10 seconds or so (driveway to first stop sign) In the afternoons across the parking lot to the street is about it. Sometimes not at all. -
So a young man is teaching a friend to drive. He pulls up to an intersection with a red light. he hits the gas and blows the light. His friend is white knuckled and says oh my gawd. The driver replies No worries my brother taught me that. At the next intersection he once again hits the gas at the remand blows through the light, and repeats my brother taught me that. As they roll up to the third light it is green. the man hits the brakes hard and skids sideways stopping just short of the crosswalk. His friend is perplexed and says 'Why did you stop?" to which he replied "my brother might be coming the other way!!" Funny but so true, here in FL we have "Snowbirds" from all over the northern tier, Canada, Ohio Montana Michigan New England, that live here part time. As each of those areas has their own little idiosyncrasies that don't work here. It seems they don't bother with any traffic rules. Speed limits are a vague suggestion, The big red octagons just block the scenery, turn lanes are to get people out of their way, and aisles or lanes in parking lots only apply if you have a FLORIDA tag other wise its drive where you want! I hate to show a bit of prejudgment or bias, but in my humble opinion young women in big SUVS are the worst!! They drive these 2 1/2 ton behemoths like its the Toyota Cressida they learned on 10 or 12 years ago! Followed closely by older men in little SUVs or Crossovers that think that they are great drivers, because for the past 50 years they haven't driven over 25mph due to road condition most of the year up north.

TORQUE GETS YOU OUT OF THE HOLE!! BUT HORSEPOWER TAKES YOU OVER THE FINISH LINE!!! What most folks don't realize is that Horsepower is a number that is calculated from the torque value x the movement arm x the rpm divided by a constant. In other words a 100 FT/LB motor at 50 horsepower is great in a tractor but a 50 FT/lb motor at 100 HP is a rocket ship! You will be using the formula (RPM * T) / 5252=HP, where RPM is the engine speed, T is the torque, and 5,252 is radians per second. So as the Horsepower of the V4 is at a higher RPM I'd think it would win at an over 60 pull, Several of the rider videos on you tube have mentioned the Yamaha lacks "Punch" over 60 MPH but then again so do a lot of the bigger v-twins.

I'm waiting on some longer term reports on the heat issues. I agree the heat from the rear jug is right where it shouldn't be!! Having said that' here is good old FLA the water cooled v-4 puts out some heat sitting in traffic! I went to the HD store to drop off my bro to pick his bike up from the 1000 mile service, wandered the show room. Don't know what the deal is with options and what not. but there are bike not as fully equipped (infotainment and central locking) that go for $8K more than the yamaha. I also saw some touting custom colors or leather work with a lot of extra chrome approaching the $48K mark in that show room. I see a lot of local Yamaha dealers are listing bikes at $1000-$3000 of MSRP as the new model year approaches. So who know what next august will bring in the terms of pricing?

Other than F4 is there a source for taller than stock vented tinted windshields? i'm on my second F4. I don't think they like the Florida sun. The first was replaced under warranty, for the same issue. I can see in the shield concentric curves of micro cracks radiating out from the bottom of the shield where the screw holes are, and from the holes around the vent opening as well as a series of larger concentric micro cracks in the larger area just under the curved top of the Plastic. i'm not beating up F4! the shield has been great as far as water shedding, easy to clean, no flex or virbrating at speed. The micro crack or stress lines only can be seen with bright sun light coming thru the glass. No issues at night with street lights or headlights yet. I was just thinking to try another brand or style.

So i've been knocking around here for 4 years now! I've been on a Yamaha since 1972 in one incarnation or another. Over the past four years, there have been countless posts about whats wrong with both the 1st and 2nd gen bikes. Also countless post about what we want in a new bike! Its almost like Yamaha has a direct line to these forums because almost every complaint has been addressed in the new bike, just not in ways we'ed want or expect. Lets address a few of these topics KEEP THE REV'S UP KEEP IT HAPPY. In one form or another from drivability to fuel economy we've all commented about this aspect of the mighty v-4's. Well the easiest way to address that is with an engine designed to get its power at lower RPM. Ala long stroke. So V-twin. SYNCE CARBS WAY TO OFTEN. easy fix Fuel injection. TOP HEAVY AT LOW SPEED. New frame less weight up high and lower seat. 48' v twin lowers the center of gravity. TAPE DECK IN A MODERN BIKE!! Well hows about a 7" color MFD with available sat nav and sat radio? Integrated blue tooth and USB ports (yes more than one). STOCK WINDSHIELD CAUSES BUFFETING AND IS TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW. Over 1000 hours of simulation on a computer and wind tunnel testing, solved with design and with power adjust windshield. NO REVERSE HARD TO PARK. So they give us forward and reverse asset in parking. SEAT IS UNCOMFORTABLE Well I guess somebody likes Mr Butler because that's one of the recurring themes so Rick you've got some job security!! All around I'd score the new bike a Grand Slam. Now this is based on preliminary reviews, from various Youtube channels and magazine articles. Other than the heat issue, which may not be the issue we think as all the drives have taken place in the midwest or north west during an unusually long heat wave. One driver complained about not enough leg room as he was over 6'2" may not be a widespread problem! Also I understand the floor boards have two positions so maybe to at all. Give Kuryakan a few weeks and maybe hi way pegs to fit the engine guards? My opinion has changed since the introduction a month ago. I'm very anxious to see it in person, alas we don't get even get a drive by here in florida until the bike actually hits dealers! Whats missing? from the forums I see FLUX CAPICITOR and WARP DRIVE are not available this year.

Heat comment is pretty amazing. Just this year Harley has rerouted and refined the exhaust on its Ultra Classic to remedy the problem and also get a little more Torque out of the bike. Could Yamaha be planning a revamped "Tuned" exhaust for next years model already? Or are they leaving a big opening for some of the after market like V&H for exhaust and some of the others for a backrest and forward controls? Are firmware updates in the works for the clunky entertainment system? My brother's harley get updates about once a months as features are added or refined! I for one think the review are mostly positive, and have definitely peaked my interest more now than last month at the beginning. Being able to drive a cruiser like a cruiser at lower RPM using torque instead of having to rev the bejesus out of the bike to get the power at almost 4000 rpm higher sounds like a winner to me!

Remember your driving a four cylinder not a twin, Don't roll the throttle when your in a higher gear 4-5 while under 30 mph. the v-4 rev's high. The "shudder" is really the engine below its torque curve trying to push the heavy bike, so you feel every link in the chain so to speak A couple thousandth here and there from the piston to the rod to the crank to the ouput gear to the inout of the trans thru the trans to the output to the drive shaft to the rear. Its not a lot but add them all together at one time! The low torque doesn't push hard enough so the rolling resistance of the bike push back trying to slow you down. Drop a gear! and watch what happens. I drive mine every day i rarely see 5th gear unless i have several mile of clear road where i can run over 60MPH. Also keep the revs higher helps the vacuum operated throats on the carbs get better fuel efficiency.

The Broview is probably the best of the current generation of LED replacement headlamp for Motorcycles. Search LED" on this forum there are some review with pic's. The only issues are the bulb for the RSV only comes in a 2-pack. Now if you post the other in the classified someone may buy it. the other is a personal thing. The LED throws a rather sharply defined beam, there is very little scatter. I find myself using the HI's more often just to picket reflectors and road signs. At 50ft you can read a book 3 feet off the ground but at 5 feet its dark with the LOW's. This is just my experience. Also the light is a slightly warmer color (more white/blue that yellow/orange) but not like some of these Ricers lights, that are very blue. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?127944-LED-Headlight&highlight=broview

Rips or tears in the "Urethane" front bumper or bumper cover can also be "welded" with a hot air source and a filler rod. My cousin in North carolina does it for several body shops and car dealers in his area. After that the repair is as normal 1 sand, 2 prime, 3 paint and 4 buff! Any repair that doesn't fix the substrate will only come back and crack sooner than later. Simply putting "bondo" or other finish plastic over a crack is okay to sell along to someone else, but not if you plan on keeping the vehicle. Some have had good success with aligning the sides of a crack or tear and "glassing" the back side. Good luck in your endeavor
