  1. Actually I think folks have more expendable cash than ever! Its just that Corp America has gotten better at separating it from us. Look at $100.00 phone bills for a couple! I have friends with kids paying $400 or more. Thens there's infotainment whether its Dish or Cable again over $150 or more. Then there's internet on to of all of that another $50.00. We've been lulled into eating out more than ever, fast food is a way of life. I'm guilty as the rest One sunday she slept in so I snuck out of the house and rain to burger double got double coffee double oh's and double breakfast sandwich, so she could wake up to breakfast in bed. Well that cost me $21.00 ONE FREAKING TAKE OUT MEAL. People live on delivery pizza. try to get anything other than a single plan PIE for less than $15.00. Go out to dinner 50-70 without drinks and no dessert. I mean the slick packaging and advertising has us spending the loot quicker than we make it. Friends just planned a trip to central Florida theme park, agent told to figure around $500.00 per day as a minimum budget so 2 adults 3 kids 7 days closer to $1000.00 if they wanted a "decent" time or $2000 for a "deluxe" experience. So maxing out a credit card to the tune of $6200.00 for a week with the mouse! Any way the money isn't going to bikes or boats.
  2. The triangular pattern of the bolts holding the fins on would adapt easily to the mkV flux capacitor from Fugikowa industries!!
  3. If i'm following the length of the arms make no difference. it should 1 revolution of the final output gear regardless of its diameter soul be 1 stroke of the saw. kind of like the arm off the wheel of a locomotive, 1 complete revolution push the drawing rods into the piston then back out of the piston (i know the power works the other way but as a visual) but as mentioned before a variable speed reciprocating saw with a metal blade or a portable band saw would do the same job cheaper and better IMHO
  4. Seeing the number of "new" bikes of a different type than ours. As well as many smaller bikes. I think that the condition of our condition is that like stage coaches and buggy whips we aren't the main stream any more. When I go down the road almost every day, there is a lot of smaller bikes and bigger scoots than ever! Many folks are getting scoots to get around the "License "issue. At least here is FL you don't need an endorsement for smaller bikes (49CC) and as police have a lot of other issues, we have people with no endorsement driving 125 CC and 250 CC scoots because they look just like smaller scoots. Also a lot of the smaller Crotch rocket style bikes in the 200-500 cc range being used by a lot of 30 somethings, I mean suits with a back pack kind of 30 fish guys, as daily transportation. Another factor is saturation point, at best there is a small percentage of folks who will ride a bike, whether its fear or just dislike or even no interest. It may be that a high percentage of that small percentage has bikes at this point. As far as the economy, I can't quote any figures but our business is subcontracting for builders of residential homes, we have doubled in the past two years and our client base informs that they have even more projects coming out of the ground here in Florida than ever before. So as housing drives the rest of the economy, i'd have to say its not slow, just transitioning again like the late 60's early 70's.
  5. So I did some checking with an agent and with Geico. In florida PIP is only sold to cars not motorcycles. Motorcycles get a medical payments rider. PIP only covers the insured hence the name personal injury protection. So they are correct in saying that motorcycles are not covered under FL law as to PIP This came about several years back when FL changed the mandatory helmet law. At that time is was detained that anyone under 21 had to wear a helmet at all times, helmets are optional if you are over 21 and carry a minimum of $20,000 in medical payments insurance. My rider is for $2000 to cover the gap between my copay and major medical at work. Yes you should also check your insurance to make sure Motorcycle accidents are not excluded from your policy there also. So if you are involved in an accident with someone that has Geico or any insurance Co in FL their PIP is not what pay Your medical. Thats the bodily liability portion of their policy if they are at fault. If you are at fault it is your Medical Payments rider, if your on your bike. Another point is if the other driver disputes fault, regardless of citations or police reports, you must have your insurance "Subrogate" or hire a private attorney to recover damages. It appears that in your case there is no PIP if you were on your own bike. You would need to see if your policy has the medical payments rider. If you were not at fault, his insurance would pay based on his Bodily liability coverage.
  6. https://www.news4jax.com/news/texting-while-driving-could-become-primary-offense-in-florida Well as of right now Florida is one of the last states that the texting is a secondary offense. It may be changing Hurray! I'm just shy of 60 myself. I was one of the first to car a smart phone (remember the blackberry) before that a palm pilot PDA. To me its a tool just like a jack knife or a tablet and pen (which I used to carry everyday in my front pocket) I don't take selfies but I take alot of photos. I see on a weekly basis kids under 6 with cell phones riding in shopping carts while mama has a phone wedged between her ear and shoulder pushing the same cart. I reported a school bus driver, who had her phone on the floor of the bus, and was looking down through the steering wheel while driving! In my car I have a bluetooth handsfree for calls, and my phone automatically responds to texts while i'm driving.
  7. Thanks Puc, I was just thinking of jumping to a street cruiser and letting the RSV go for the next 5-7 years till i'm truly retired, especially since SWMBO doesn't ride with me anymore. Was thinking should I go whole hog on a new one because its got more motor and trans so to speak or save a few ducets and grab a low mileage used scoot locally. I know of one a S model with custom paint and just enough after market goodies to stand out.
  8. So is the RSV engine the same as the Raider but with a different trans clutch set up and retuned exhaust, or is it totally unique? If it is unique will that engine and trans combo cross over to the Raider in 2018? The corp. web site isn't a lot of help on that
  9. Saw this on Face book thought i'd pass it along. A man walking down the street came across a homeless man with a sign asking for $1.00. The man was disheveled and unwashed, his clothes were a mess, his hair and beard un barbered and unwashed and to say he smelled is being polite! The gentleman stopped and pulled out a $10..00 bill and asked the man. "if I give you this will you spend it on beer?" The homeless man replied "no sir I had quit drinking 10 years ago!" The man then asked" If I give you this will you spend it on fishing gear and bait?" To which the man replies "I haven't going fishing in over a decade" Finally the gentleman asks " If I give you this money will you spend it on a hunting trip?" The homeless man says "No sir I haven't been hunting ages" The gentleman say "Okay here's then $10.. but i'd like to take you home with me and offer you a hot shower and some clean clothes and to have dinner with my wife and I" The homeless guy says "won't your wife be upset?" The gentleman says "she maybe, but I want her to see what I Would look like if I gave up Beer, fishing and hunting"
  10. When I first got mine (07) I always felt as if I was on top of the bike trying to guide it, not really relaxing into the seat. As mentioned before getting rid of the original tires (even though they had a lot of life in them) and adding the leveling links ( shorter links make the rear taller) and raising the back of the bike a scant 1" made all the difference. I can turn mine inside a space and half in the parking lot with both of us on the bike now, and its surprising how loose the nut behind the bars can be! Now on long trips I no longer feel that i'm waiting or tensing up, for it to squirrel on me. Last trip to theater coast My brother and I went almost 3 hours non-stop on the slab, switching from asphalt to concrete and back even on the grooved payment near Orlando i had no issues. Its also very predictable in the rain now.
  11. I also hang out with the racer boys over at the mustang site, as it was my job for 30 years. Having the same issue with the new Anitroll anti skid anti fun settings on the computers. There is supposed to be a sport mode that let's you skid, power brake, drift and auto cross thee cars, but after enough G force the computers says "No your having fun" and turns all the stuff back on. Sometimes in the middle of an autocross. Guys have actually had the cars power down after a double "S" curve, the computer thinks a roll is happening. There you are in your Nomex jammies and helmet, and the dang tires won't even squeal.
  12. Two things, go to a motocross shop. they had e a little doo-hickey that attaches to a can of spray lube that clamps onto the end of a cable to pressure lube the entire thing.https://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=cable+luber&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=153632845593&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13059577202370187916&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012141&hvtargid=kwd-1793470301&ref=pd_sl_4fmca47m1k_e The other is, that I thought that all 1st gen's whined a bit, then at the last meet and eat turned out it was the owners:225:
  13. So i had an issue with some crazing in the plastic a couple years ago, F4 replaced it under warranty. The same issue again. Got a very nice young lady on the phone, she launched into production dates and stock issues and a whole lot of information, the upshot they sent a new windshield. I got it on over the weekend. While its exactly the same size as my old one, I did notice slight difference in the tinting. Very subtle but its there. Now I'm color blind in the RED/GREEN range but much more sensitive to blues than most. So i can't tell which way the tint shifted for sure. Rode to work at 5:30 a.m. and noticed the lens flares and streetlight halos are gone!! All I can say is good job F4!!! You have a customer for life.
  14. no it will hang right next t the clamp on volt meter and my A/c gauges, I like to intimidate the neighbors when they walk into my shop!!!
  15. So I did it. I bought a motion Pro 2 tuner. Setting it up and letting the bubbles out took a bit of fiddling but after reading the directions it was easy enough. All the vacuum tuners mention "does most motorcycles purchase optional 6mm adapters for Yamaha and others" so I did. I don't know why they aren't needed. It took longer to prep the bike and locate the screws than actually tuning did. I turned the idle screw way up. and synced 1 to 2 then 3 to 4 then 1,2 to 3,4. I noticed an immediate effect the bike ran much smoother. I let it run for about 2 minutes then shut it down. I let it cool a bit then restarted and the idle was way higher so I brought it down again and rescynched as they seemed a little off. When I was done the bike was very smooth but the idle continued to climb. I adjusted the idle down to around choke high setting s (1200 to 1800) by ear. and synched for the third time. I then brought the idle down as low as I could with out stalling then up 1 half a turn on the screw. it is very smooth at idle now. I grabbed my helmet and off I go to try it out. Man what a different bike! The power comes on very smooth much lower than before and the LUG CHUG is gone when I slow down and reaccelerate with out down shifting. I did a low speed pull in third gear at 25 mph I twisted full throttle!! no CHUG or LUG just smooth accele that accelerated as the Revs climbed I chickened out at 85+ mph and hit 4th I think third would have kept going!! all in all a big success so far I 'll check the mpg going forward and see if I'm in the 40 mpg territory that some of you have claimed. A bit of advice. my bike is 10 years old and the rubber didn't want to let go!! I had to work a 90' seal pick all the way round the hose to get it to release. I actually pulled the one fitting out of the manifold with the hose trying to release it.
  16. On my 07 RSV I take them off and on with the seasons. I have a set of Harley slips ons. Someone here made brackets at one point. what you'll need is a pair of clamps for the front the P clamp has to be big enough the holes will accept whatever size bolt goes into he back of the slip on. then clamp around the rear support rail for the rear bags. it was easy.
  17. Don't wait on the surgery don't let anyone talk you into therapy PT or a cast and shots!!!! 3 months of that crap and guess what had the surgery anyhow and it was a doozy. they cut the tendons from 4 of my toes and stitched them together to make a new tendon to reattach my achilles, because it had shrunk up to the point it was almost up to my knee. 5 different holes in my leg and a couple titanium screws and staples then 90 days on the couch and a knee walker absolutely no weight on my leg. I put on 40 pounds that i;m still fighting to get rid of.
  18. As I got older my dad got so much smarter. When I was a teen ager he was the dumbest guy, he just didn't't understand anything. Before he passed away, I thought he was smarter than Hawking and Einstein together. Maybe one day my kids will feel the same way.
  19. Took the twist and go side apart yesterday. AS it took 7 hits of the button to engage the starter, the contacts that i had buffed almost a year ago are almost brown with rust/corrision/patina. I buffed with my dremmel and reassembled. starts fine now. Looking at the assembly, lots of spots on the assembly that i can see daylight through, not pitted or distorted just not well sealed by design. so I'm assuming weather can get in. Going to get some contact grease, and some silver RTV and grease up the contacts and try to seal some of the more obvious gaps, also thinking of some kind of bellows or thin waled tubing around the spring and contact. Doing the carbs saturday I hope. going to reread all the posts here and be ready to go, then.
  20. Saw one the other day for an Asthma medication...may cause shortness of breath!!
  21. Spent many saturdays with my dad back in the 60's around that area. He was a rock nut! always looking for fossils and crystals
  22. Don't know where that bay post came from but not what I bought. I my at work not home so I couldn't past the link. its the MOTION PRO syncPRO carb turner set with 5 mm tips. I had the supplier add the 6 mm tips, also on the same ticket
  23. no order the 4 guage set as recommened from an ebay vendor but added the 6 mm adapters, not included in the base kit
  24. A close friend of mine and my girlfriend were both suffering from some stomach issues. My friend was to be hospitalized for scoping and other tests. He was told to stop his metformin till after the test. well the symptoms went away that day. The doctor called and said it may have been a virus start your meds back up and call me. Well the next day takes the metformin and has Massive explosive diarrhea to the point he can't leave the house. it recurs 7 or 8 times that day and continues. he stopped the metformin and it goes away. My girlfriend the same issues with the metformin, going to the bathroom 4 to 5 times in the morning after breakfast, changed diet took out the coffee etc. no relief till she stopped the metformin in preparation for testing. It was amazing in both cases it was like someone flipped a switch both of them are now painting normal blood sugar and only slightly elevated A1C 6 months later
