New Owner - Best and most critical mods?
dragerman replied to jimtxas's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think the Progressive Suspension Air Fork Balance Kit is a very good idea; http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp;jsessionid=VFN5LLHK4G5JLLA0WTVSM4VMDK0NCIV0?store=Main&skuId=58318 I haven’t ordered mine yet but will soon. A lot of good ideas here but don’t forget to spend a little on yourself, safety first, get some good riding gear. Welcome to the family and congrats on the new scoot! -
I just bought the same camera only the 720 SI model and I really like it. It too is my first digital camera. You’ll have to get yourself another memory stick because the one that comes with it is a sample only, basically so you can see that the camera is working. The other thing is if you plan on using the non rechargeable AA batteries I really like the energizer e2 titanium, they seem to stand up well. I may get an adapter for when I’m hooked up to the computer but I’m not in a rush for that. From the reviews I’ve read this is a good entry level camera... and then some. I’m very happy with mine and the changeover was long over due! I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours. Cheers

Although I’ve heard of it I’m not familiar with ‘trigger finger’... suppose staying away from guns would be a good idea (too funny). I was wondering though what triggered the finger to start doing that?? Two weeks ago while I was making the bed as I was pushing the blanket down between the mattress and the foot board I heard a snap! When I pulled my hand out the tip of my middle finger was bent and I couldn’t straighten it up. Apparently I have a small fracture and what’s sometimes referred as ‘hammer finger’. I have to keep it in a splint for 4 weeks and if that doesn’t work I may require surgery. I tried o get a note from the doctor so I wouldn’t have to make the bed but that didn’t go over very well... This domestic stuff is dangerous!! Good luck with your finger!

I think it would be nice to send out a friendly invite to any member that hasn’t logged on in for a while. That would be more in keeping with the venturerider spirit that I’ve come to know and like. Everyone has there own circumstances, it’s up to us to help others to feel welcome and a part of this group. That’s how we really grow in quality membership. Another thought could be to send out a quarterly news letter to everyone. That might help to encouraging those who have already showed some interest in this site to revisit it. Either way I think it’s good to remain positive... and I’m positive that this is a great place to be (when I’m not riding of course).

Think Scoot Is Running Rich
dragerman replied to HORSE-USMVMC's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The other thing to consider is the air filters but an 07 should be ok depending on your milage and driving conditions. If the filters clog they act like a choke. -
Carbon Monoxide is a product of “Incomplete Combustion.” Therefore, for most efficient burning ensure your wick is adjusted properly and your unit is in good repair. If the flame is yellow or producing soot it’s telling you something. Likely your wick is too high or there’s a problem with the air flow, a blue flame is ideal. It could also be that you have bad fuel (much like an engine). Simply put, the levels of Carbon Monoxide produced are directly related to the efficiency and amount of the burn burned. To ensure optimum burn light the heater and always readjust the wick after it has reached operating temperature (usually after 1 to 5 minutes). At best these units are not high efficient burners so you must ensure some ventilation in a sealed room. It’s always a good idea (law in some places) to have a Carbon Monoxide Detector in the same room with a source of combustion. Early signs of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning include headaches and dizziness. Always be safe, which I think you are seeing how you started this post. Good one.

I wonder how long it took for the engineers to come up with that design

Hey Fred... I’m really sorry to hear that. No, that is not an attitude that is reflective of all Canadians but certainly we have a few. Guess that can be said about anywhere though. Quite frankly I feel at home in either country and like the people just the same!! The bottom line is that a bad attitude is a bad attitude… it is my experience that these people are generally unhappy and will find anything to complain about. They obviously aren’t Venture Riders!

Don’t underestimate things... I’ll bet the Yamaha corp. would just love to change the manual to read "For more information visit Venturerider.org" From my experience their technicians would do well to read some of the info posted here!

I must say that I agree with all the comments I’ve read here so far. This is what I have come to recognize as the true VR spirit. The only thing I’d like to add is “thank you” and I’m proud to be a part of this wonderful group of friends! Cheers to you all!

Looks too crumby to be Diana… I think its Aunt Jemima! Heck, if that’s the case it could be a collectable and you’d really be in the dough!! The only thing is that if you sell it again capital gains tax will really ‘BITE’ into your profits!! :rotfl:

In honor of Leslie for ‘All’ our beloved fallen...
dragerman replied to dragerman's topic in Watering Hole
Yes, I agree, and this is the type of thinking and questions that I’m trying to arouse and generate thought towards. It is also why I suggest a “Motorcycle Safety Awareness Campaign”, the Ride part is more to compliment our efforts and add effect (possibly for media attention as well). It also provides another avenue for a powerful show of support. Coming up with good questions is one thing... the challenge is going to be to come up with the answers. I’ve wondered if it might be a good idea to have a read only ‘Safety’ thread to compliment our ‘Safety and Education’ section (sorry Don, I’m not trying to make more work for you). Or how about an Electronic Printable Venturerider Safety Flyer that not only contains links to our site but also directly to our Safety section. We could post statistics, tips, reports, seasonal reminders etc., the possibilities are endless on line. Something like this could be distributed through our own personal email and we could all do it from the comfort of our homes. If we do the math with approximately 4000 members, we all know two people, they tell two friends and so on… it ads up! As well, I don’t think we should limit ourselves to ‘motorcycle groups’ as this should be a ‘public’ campaign. There is no such thing as a crazy idea (I think??), from good ideas come better ideas so lets knock our heads together and have fun with it! We may not be able to change the world but we may be able to provoke some public Awareness and/or attention into Driver Safety. And who knows, we may even save a life.- 29 replies

In honor of Leslie for ‘All’ our beloved fallen...
dragerman replied to dragerman's topic in Watering Hole
Yes absolutely, this is something that any motorcyclist or group can and should participate in. It seems that we’re always doing rides for other causes and that’s a wonderful thing, heck any excuse to ride is a wonderful thing. I just love to hop on my scoot and ride so when I have the opportunity to help someone else in the process all the better! It doesn’t even matter the weather because I’m not just a fair weather rider. If my bike is dirty it’s because I’ve been too busy riding... I’m just happy to be out there. Everyone should get involved, rider safety is for all of us and those who love us. Our emphasis is justified by our vulnerability. What I have noticed about myself is that (especially here in the city) I have become very possessive about the space around me while I’m riding. Cagers are too often following too close or doing ‘other things’ while driving, the sense of danger causes me much discomfort. I exercise defensive driving however that sweet spot in traffic is getting harder and harder to find. Having said that I tremendously appreciate the driver who hangs back a safe distance as if to cover my azz (they likely ride or have ridden themselves). Perhaps our motto aught to be “PAY attention, you will SAVE in the long run!” Chaz- 29 replies

First of all I would like to say that as a member and part of this family we have here I respect and appreciate all of your ideas, comments and opinions. I have thought about this for a while now and would like to share my thoughts with all of you. I’m not an organizer and these days I’m challenged to care for my own needs but this is something close to my heart and I hope some good comes from it. Do we have what it takes to organize something like this? My thoughts; How about starting a Motorcycle Safety Awareness Campaign and Ride? Understandably there is no quick fix for motorcycle safety awareness. There are a lot of motorcycles and cars on the road and we must learn to coincide, share the road and be aware of each other’s presents. New drivers are hitting the road every day, some, carefree of the dangers of driving. They celebrate their newfound freedom and for the most part are totally oblivious of the history of suffering from accident victims and their families. But it’s not just new drivers. We are creatures of habit and can become very complacent, caught up in a rush or very distracted. So how can one impress attentiveness and awareness upon people without having to first experience tragedy or disaster? What can we do to prevent or reduce motorcycle fatalities? If you could do one thing that might save a single life, would you? Well I too have seen my share of accidents and am literally ‘sick’ of it. After twenty years in the fire service the emotional trauma has gotten to be too much for me and I’ve had to stop my work. I’ve also lost my best man to an accident and coincidently happened to be first on scene to his horrific head-on collision. Two people died in that crash and there is no bringing them back. I love you Harold and miss you to this day. We all have a story to tell but again, “What can we do?” “How can we make a difference?” I’ve noticed from various rides (as I’m sure most of you can relate) that when a band of bikes come rolling through town people stop and take notice. They snap pictures, call friends to look, point fingers and stand in aw! Well I think we should take matters into our own hands and make the biggest dam impression on people that anyone has ever seen!! All our rides, rallies, meet-n-greets are wonderful and are truly of a kindred spirit, but I think it’s time to stand up and be noticed! Brothers and sisters lets band together and deliver the message our selves! Pending family consent, and with utmost respect I propose we organize a memorial ride in honor of Leslie for ‘All’ our beloved fallen in an effort to promote a Motorcycle Safety Awareness Campaign and Ride. And that we assemble every bike we can muster and proudly ride in unity! I would like to see so many bikes that when they all start to roll it will change the rotation of this little plant of ours and perhaps impress upon some people to change their driving habits as well! A ride that will cause people not only to sit up and take notice but also to really stop and ‘think’ and ‘remember’ the ‘responsibilities’ of driving! Lets share with people the energy we feel when we ride. Put the rumble in their souls so the next time they see a bike they’ll pause in remembrance, admiration and respect. Whether it’s a relay ride from State to State, a synchronized global ride, or one massive ride, whatever it takes, lets do it! Fliers, radio, internet, even television are all tools we can creatively use to deliver the message. The life you save could be your own. Respectfully, Charles

:lightbulb:Now that so many of us have submitted pictures for the calendar could we use the same pictures to make a screen saver and distribute it among our members?? Not a bad idea if I may say so myself.

Parking in marked stalls..ediquite and safety
dragerman replied to tony h's topic in Safety and Education
Come park in Toronto, they’ve done the opposite and allowed for free parking on the streets for motorcycles! -
My deepest sympathy and sincere wishes for a speedy recovery. May we all grow from the strength and prayers that will be needed to carry all through these challenging times. I would like to leave you with this poem, God Bless, Charlie How You Spend Your “Dash” I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombsone From the beginning…to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years. (19??-2007) For that dash represents all the time That she spent alive on earth.. And now only those who loved her Know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own; The cars…the house…the cash. What matters most is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard… Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left. That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider what’s true and real, And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger, And show appreciation more And love the people in our lives Like we’ve never loved before. If we treat each other with respect, And more often wear a smile… Remembering that this special dash Might only last a little while. So, when your eulogy’s being read With your life’s actions to rehash… Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent your dash?

I’ve always thought it was a great idea for young riders to learn to ride or spend some time on a dirt bike before hitting the streets. That way one gets use to maneuvering a bike on unsteady ground and develops their reflexes and confidence... not to mention it’s a lot of fun! Good luck!
