I’m looking for a 2nd Gen headlight
dragerman replied to dragerman's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Thanks Eck, yes that’s the idea. I’ve seen the thread for the headlight mod (http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=498) and that’s what I’d like to do. I already have the Tri-bar headlight and matching driving lamps and am going to swap them out when the snow blows (can't seem to stop long enough to do it now). Rather then to cut up a good headlight (because mine is still ok) I thought first I’d look for a damaged one and cut the lens out of it. There must be one around someplace... we have twice as many eyes as we do members so hopefully something will come up! -
I’d like to do a headlight mod and wondering if anyone has a headlight assembly they can part with or knows where to get one. It doesn’t matter if the lens is damaged because I’ll be removing it anyway. If so please let me know. Thanx Charlie

Good comments Goose. I was following a trailer late one night in a cage when it blew a back tire. It was the rear tire driver’s side. When it let go it caught the back of the trailer and violently thrashed about till the tire surrendered and blew off flying indiscriminately all over the road. The dust and derbies seemed tremendous and unpredictable. Fortunately I had sufficient distance and was able to break and maneuver without hitting anything but I wouldn’t want to be trying that on a bike. The other thing is and I’ve seen it twice on a clear day (believe it or not separate incidents in the same day) is when these trailers break hard they tend to slide sideways. If the driver doesn’t let up they’ll eventually jackknife... trust me, you don’t want to be beside them. I like Carl’s idea but that’s not always an option so whatever you do be safe and error on the side of caution. PS. The first thing I did after riding in the rain was cut 4 1/2 inches off my winshield. I can just see over the top, much better now!

However one looks at it that’s good information. With awareness and knowledge we can change these statistics. Lets make our “Venture’s” a safe one!

Front Turn Signal Lamps
dragerman replied to Two Tone White's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I like to put a little dielectric grease on the bulb socket, it keeps moisture out, prevents corrosion and helps maintain good contact. I use it on all my electrical connections. -
... I went with the compact version for portability... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=4522

Glad to hear you’re back safe and sound, I’m sure there are many stories to tell. Hope to see you soon we’ll catch up then. Cheers!

That could explain the glow in the horizon that I see when I look south! Awesome.

The other thing you can do is punch a hole on the tank side of the fill neck so you can squeeze more fuel in.

I go the two hundred but am well into the reserve when I do.

Respectfully, I’d love to be able to go but I wouldn’t be able to see through my tears to ride. Too close to home for me.

So there I was at Carl’s Birthday Party thinking this is really nice and what a great bunch of folks. Honestly, the way VR’s mixed in with Carl’s family you’d think we were all related! I guess we are in a sense and it’s nice to see the family grow and faces become more familiar. The gathering was great and nothing was missing, except Hal’s ‘wings’ of course (long story, if you weren’t at the Rally perhaps you seen the photo’s), even the weather behaved. Smiles and laughter were all around amidst great stories and even better food... one would think it couldn’t get any better... well it did. Part way through the evening while out on the deck I was approached by one of our members ‘bongobobny’. If you ever met Bob and his lovely wife Becky you’ll know what wonderful people they really are. Well by this time Bob and I had already said hello but hadn’t talked much. I was looking forward to catching up with him but our conversation took a little turn and that’s when it happened. Bob reached out to me with something in his hand and with the most sincere smile he said “here is something I’d like you to have”. When he opened his hand there was a small black velvet pouch and he handed it to me. Well I feel challenged to find words that adequately describe how wonderful I felt when I opened the pouch to find a VentureRider Guardian Bell. It truly is a gift of friendship and I will cherish it as such! Thank you very kindly Bob & Becky! PS. I haven’t put it on the bike yet but I’ve hung the pouch off my belt loop till I do... every once and a while I hear a “ting” from the bell and I think of Bob and it brings me a smile! At some point I’ll put it on the bike.

how clean plastic wrap of chrome?
dragerman replied to dharnie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Try soaking in acetone, perhaps toluene or methyl ethyl ketone. These are effective solvents for all sorts of non-polar substances it can get in between the components of the polymer of plastic. In order to completely dissolve the plastic, you’d need a stronger and more non-polar solvent.A solvent composition for dissolving plastic comprises at least either isopropyl bromide or n-propyl bromide, and at least either nitromethane or nitroethane. The content of the above-mentioned at least either nitromethane or nitroethane is 5 through 50 wt % with respect to the entire amount of the solvent. So say the experts Just be careful with these chemicals. -
Love the Bike, don't like the company
dragerman replied to johnny-canuck's topic in Bike Accessories
I couldn’t agree with you more. Yamaha Canada from my experience is an incredibly pathetic company to deal with:bang head:. That’s why I bought state side and so far Yamaha US have been a pleasure to deal with. Not only that but I saved in excess of $7000 buying over the border:mo money:, Yamaha Canada’s warrantee certainly isn’t worth that much (especially with the grief that comes with it). I have had no problem with over the border warrantee and each time I’ve gone I get a good feed of Buffalo wings!- 3 replies

Broken cowling bracket
dragerman replied to Moakster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ya to that! I certainly second that motion. I’ve used the plastex to repair a lower cowling and not only do you get a molecular bond but it’s also very easy to work with and can be used for so many things. After having tried different home remedies I’m sold on Plastex. This is not a sales pitch just the way it is! -
My sentiments exactly Carl. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to help when there is a genuine need, especially when things work out for the better. This is another fine example of the GREAT members on this site. My compliments to you all, you’ve made us all proud!

Holly smokes Gunboat… perhaps our Rally should include an “Iron Butt Award” You and your side kick Sarah certainly would have been a formidable contender (if not the winner) for it this year! Glad you made it up it was nice to meet you and Sarah. Cheers!

... "good time" , it was a GREAT TIME!!! I'm proud to be a VentureRider and it's folks like all of you that make it so!

Looks like this is only a US survey, I can’t reply or I’d suggest that all intersection shoulders be paved. This would prevent the gravel from being kicked up on the road by the tires that run off the edge pavement while turning. Perhaps one of you could include that suggestion.
