gas mileage question
dragerman replied to slick97spirit's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, as mentioned running with the choke on will reduce your mileage but it won’t really hurt the bike. It might carbon up a little but should clean itself out once you run it for a bit (without the choke on that is). If you have any doubts you could always run a little Seafoam through it. The other thing is that the speedometers on these bikes are out by about 7-8% (faster) so you’ll need to take that into consideration when calculating your ‘true’ mileage. A GPS is great for calculating speed and mileage. Enjoy your new ride! -
Need some help
dragerman replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I’m surprised to hear that. Reading back what I didn’t mention is that when you put the extractor in the hole you have to ‘tap’ it in. I use a small tack hammer, tap the extractor in then tap and turn at the same time. You’ll know once the tool ‘bites’ into the hole and you can stop tapping and apply slow steady pressure. Be careful though because these extractors will really bite in and if you apply too much pressure too fast you can snap the tool in the hole (don’t ask me how I know). From my experience the whole act of lubricating, drilling and tapping also seems to help loosen the grip on the threads. Make sure the hole is deep enough so that the extractor can turn in far enough to get a bite without hitting the end of the hole and be patient. I can honestly say that it always worked for me. I use to repair compressors as a side line and have used it many times. I’ve only snapped the extractor once, it just takes practice... -
Need some help
dragerman replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I’ve had great success using a “Spiral flute screw extractor” for those types of situations. They will work so long as you have enough room to drill a hole into the part you’d like to remove. Once you drill the hole you tap the easy-out into the hole and turn it counterclockwise. I have used them in some fairly desperate situations and like I said have had great success. There is also a square extractor (as opposed to the spiral... either one works well) and they come in various sizes, just make sure you buy a good quality or brand name. It’s one of those tools that if even if you only use it once it will have paid for itself! Check out this link; http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=10474&group_ID=1261&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog Good luck! -
Hey Bluez, here are some picks from the tech section as posted by Freebird. My scoot is still apart but I will post pictures once I''ve finished installing my new headlight and passing lamps! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1656

That’s a great site. Some great brand names on that list, just reading them gives me a good old nostalgic feeling! ... I still have my first Estwing hammer that I bought as a teen. We will survive these challenging times and be better people for having done so!

I have a four pound Chihuahua that loves to ride. At first she would ride in my shirt... I’d leave one button undone and she’d stick her head out the opening. Now that I know she likes to ride I purchased a tank bag that straps to the tank. She knows she’s going for a ride when she sees me with the bag and gets all excited. Once I put her in the bag she stays put even if I leave the bike and go in for a coffee! In fact she’ll seriously guard the bike while I’m gone, I’ve watched her from a distance and it’s hilarious! As cute as she is people will not go near the bike if I’m not there.

Problem with Carbon_One lift adapter
dragerman replied to davecb's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My sentiments exactly, I prefer a snug fit. If it’s just slightly off the pin will flex enough to go through the hole. I’m thinking to taper the end of the pin to help get it started through the hole but I don’t really see it as a problem. A slight bend of the rod (pin) and twist on the handle and you’re in. I love my adapter just the way it is and don’t see it as a problem. Make sure the adapter is sitting squarely on the frame when you attempt to put the pin through.- 17 replies

I’ve owned a TW200 and to be quite honest I wouldn’t get another one. The bike ran fine and all but it felt clumsy and underpowered with the big tires. I found no advantage to the big tires for my style of riding and sometimes the style of bike limited my riding. It’s a great little bike to run about with if you don’t mind the handling and don’t hold high expectations with performance. I like the ‘beefy’ look of the TW and the fact that it’s a dual purpose bike however it’s ‘bark is bigger then it’s bite’. At 200cc’s it’s cheap to insure and reasonable on fuel. As I would rather utility over sport the four-stroke was suitable. It won’t keep up very well on the highway but is great on trails or in and around town (and parking is never a problem). I bought my bike used and didn’t loose much on the resale. Over all it was fun but it wouldn’t be my first choice if I was to do it again. Having said that, if I had the money to toss I’d be tempted to get a URAL with the two wheel drive and a side car then ride it all year round! Good luck with your choice!

Radiator hose....06 Venture
dragerman replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would imagine that should be covered under warrantee, if so it might be an idea to have the dealer look at it so they can’t say you tampered with it if the problem turns out to be something else. Just a thought.- 3 replies

‘Anti seize’ lubricants generally have creeping agents that work the lubricants into tight spots. The longer you can let ‘your nuts’ soak the more effective it will be however sometime heat is the only answer.

Hello Rick, I’d be interested in a set of the Butler built butt and bag bolts for my beautiful bike because it’s better built the Butler way! PM sent, cheers!

One last time: THE 'WHINE'!
dragerman replied to Bluesman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with Gary’s comments. I’m quite happy with my scoot but I can certainly appreciate your concern, especially given some of the posts on the subject. A test ride would certainly help to ease the concern but that’s certainly not an option in this weather. Perhaps it might help if you put a clause in your purchase agreement “subject to final approval and test ride”... or something along that line. Times being how they are they just might go for it... just a thought. -
Good for you, I hope things work out to your satisfaction. Due to medical discharge I have had to retire earlier then planned. Since then I have downsized and all I can say at this point is that “simplicity is underrated”! Best of luck!
