lynn, the petcock hole ,on a first gen, is a little over a quarter of an inch wide, and maybe 1 1//2" long. your idea might work, if the earplug winds up on the correct side of the tank, when it is drained. just jt
-
hey bud! i dropped two brand new earplugs in a jar of gasoline ,this morning, just to see what they'd do. guess what, they float. they don't appear to be soaking up any gas, or sinking, or falling apart. so maybe you have no problem, after all. just jt
-
i would tend to believe, that the ear plug has already dissolved. one ear plug in a full tank of gas, should not pose any problems. who knows, you might have figured out a way to raise the octane, and get more power! lol just jt

mr owl. very nice work. they look very similar to the ones on my bike.mine don't snap, they attach with velcro, which runs the full length of the sleeve. just jt

just a FYI!!! don't even THINK of running 70 or 80 , on the trace! i believe maximum allowed speed , is 55!!!! federal tickets, are EXPENSIVE! don't ask me how i know! lol just jt

james. i'm gonna do some checking, this week end, to see what width's and gear ratios are available, in my area. i figure, if i find the right third member, everything else should be easier to locate/fabricate. keep us posted ,if you stumble upon anything. just jt

don, i don't want a "sorta" trike! i want one that is just as real , and just as pretty as the honda goldwing trikes! i have found out, that the "standard" third member, being used , is a 7.5" ford rear end.at least that is a starting point. just jt

i seem to have an "knack" for asking the wrong questions! maybe ,i'll have to "create" a set of prints! just jt
-
anyone have , or know where i can get blueprints for a "do-it-yourself", trike. i think i can build a trike for my '86, a heck of a lot cheaper, than these "prefab" jobs! just jt

lowell. just a dumb thought here,. i used to have a rock polisher made from a small riding lawnmower tire.home made.lol problem was, the small rocks wore through the middle of the tire, very quickly. i wonder if the bird shot will have the same effect, at highway speeds. might be a good idea to check the INSIDE of you tire after a couple hundred miles. . ride safe, just jt

howie. even though i am a die -hard first gen , kinda guy, if you can't find out what your problem is, i'd be more than happy to come up to PA. and take the 2000 off your hands. course i wouldn't give you more than you paid for it !lol on a different note, i know that a 1st gen WILL NOT start if the battery is below 12 volts. it will spin, but won't start. may be , that the 2nd gens, need a full charge just to make the switches work.i don't know. i would bet my money, on a blown main fuse, though.or maybe a faulty battery terminal connection. just jt

THANK YOU mike! that was the most short and to the point explanation ,i have ever heard. makes perfect sense. i couldn't have said it better myself! jsut jt
-
i'll take the other one!!! lol condor, please pay no attention to redneck! he is on a "kick back" program that yamaha offers to a select few 2nd gen riders. their mission, is to SELL everyone a 2nd gen, so that they can quit making parts for the 1st gen, that will never wear out! :stirthepot: just jt p.s. choose the one you are most comfortable about making a looong trip on,without expecting any problems.

gary, just below the left, rear ,valve box(#1cyl), there is a small rubber square that must be pulled up to expose the bleeder. i thought i never would find it, and without some help from these guys, around here, i probably would still be a huntin' it! just jt

oh! NOW ya tell me! oh well, back to the drawing board! by the way. i found a socket type tool, made by the company who makes "vise-grip" pliers, they EASILY remove stripped out phillip's head screws! they come in several different sizes,as a kit. what they are, is the opposite of an easy-out. socketed ,left handed fluted and tapered to grab. i will post pics, if anyone is interested. just jt

so glad to hear that your mom is doing better. as for paying for the meds. i don't think it can be done, unless she quits: eating, using electricity, gasoline, water, etc. ! i am living proof, that medications can bring one to "financial ruin"!!! just jt

" TIRE-BREAKER-DOWNER"!!!!!!!!!!!now that's a perfect description , randy! lol. just jt

thank you for clarifying that for me/us, Mr. owl! i have wondered how they got such good mileage on 87 octane! i wonder how they would perform on 91 octane!!!!! lol just jt

george, on the inside left body panel(side cover) there is a sticker that says 91 octane min. at least there is one on my '86. just jt
