  1. Its been too long: George and Travis kicking back
  2. Back at you both!
  3. Certainly a creative use for drones!
  4. Interesting stuff, wonder how many "ya but's" we'll be reeducated on? Or the very small % of people that will be effected by...And their yet to make arguments on how it won't matter because the data speeds matter more than the people the data is produced for or from. Wouldn't it be nice to just blindly trust Captains of industry and our politicians globally like they do on distant planets
  5. Back in 79 I began working working on transmitters along the nato circuit. Some of the stories they would tell us rookies were things like "cook your eggs, skin peeling, loss of hair, and you only get one chance at falling) lol Overall that job was a belling for me as it changed my life in many ways. This year Norm my very good friend and climbing partner past away from a very aggressive brain cancer topped off during recovery with covid 19. Now to be fair Norm also had been exposed to industrial chemicals much more than I. I on the other hand have been on the hill of melanoma since the age of 25. No history of that in the family yet... So I was advised to always wear a shirt in the sun, which I have done till this year. Looks like I have managed to stay a step ahead of the disease having just removed one tumor this year and likely one more coming off my hip down the road. But if I pause and think yah I may have removed my shirt prior too when working in the hot swamps or climbing on breathless days, but my pants nope. Standing in front of a transmitter that crosses oceans from what they educated us as a safe distance was not the same as standing in an open field... There kind of a vib you feel in your upper body. Around 83/84 they began building and installing microwave towers and transmitters throughout the circuit which coincided with a couple of accidents I was recovering from I decided to finish my term out on the old technology some of which dated back to WII. Here we go again 5G networks being argued for all kinds of reason but I was totally ignorant to what Sabine covers in the video below.
  6. Well I don't think you made a bad decision! Regardless of carbs you install a compression test will ease your worries. We have a thread that I have used many times as have others, it just works to restore, if need be, compression on an engine such as yours! " A CASE FOR FOGGING" look it up here on the site That said its been nice walking thru with you, if you do find another old set, change the jetting
  7. Wow I wrote this up went to highlight and the whole thing vanished. Lets play pin the tail with the use of a bit of logic;) top plug is #3 next 2 are #'s 1&2 last is #4
  8. Just a small something I notice on the bike above: If I was setting up a bike for a junior rider I would install F series handle bars meaning a bar that raises the shoulders and thus the head and line of sight as well! Simply helps them judge better.... Glad he scrape thru this mishap, the thumb will take a while because its at the joint ( just my experience) My boy flipped a 750 Katana misjudging the second curve, he was well protected by gear thankfully. The next morning I found a chip from his new Bell lying next to the helmet on his dresser; that night we looked for any impact signs visible to the helmet before leaving the scene... Well...Luck...Fools and Children...
  9. I'll write this up for you this afternoon
  10. All right looks look at the basics: Cold hard starting So an essential is compression we don't see any numbers posted? These early models we often see with very high numbers, if so then there would be carbon buildup on all areas that form the combustion chamber (picture this in a cross section @ TDC) That carbon will first need to soak the fuel up like a sponge just as the when cold we add fuel to richen the mix due to the tendency for fuel to separate and cling to the cold metal surfaces! Next lash @ 0.08 is still lash so that can't be the issue for cold starts. But compression will prove that so tract the numbers. After turn the engine over for 10 seconds (carbs full) are the Plugs wet? Here;s a list to figure out why if so: the coils are being fed with too low a voltage: measure volts at the coil input. the pickup coils are shot won't energize when cold: measure ohms at pickup coil connection. the engine turns to slow when cold: the engines need about 5-600 rpm to build compression or the displacement leaks past into the crankcase; or the vacuum generated is low due to the slow rotation. The best way to check the system is with the use of a spark gap tester. They are less than $10.00 and easily found. You would like to see an ark of 1/2" +/- that will cover the ignition system and remove any doubts. I assume your carb setting are correct, the floats are set and not flooding, your enrichers are not to tight or leaking. Your air box is in place even tho the lid is off and without filter for this problem of cold starting (velocity is critical) and also tied to rpm. compression, voltage, gap test, in that order will get you on the road quicker. post your findings and we can help
  11. Wishing the best of outcomes for you both Jean.

  13. Thanks for the share! Yup those transmissions are pricy to play with. Mine has lots of miles on the original but frequent oil changes with only Ford oil. I get the clutch plate add in's and the shifts are a hardware setup now, yes you can soften a touch thru the program but the setup or valve body will be switching at a higher pressure right lifting/engaging the Band quicker... Everything is a trade off
  14. In theory if after a bench sync IF the compression is equal'ish the carbs are synced. Of course theory and practice are 2 moods at times. Personally I prefer a a leaner setup. You can also use your vacuum gauges to tweak the idle circuit, tho usually the ear picks up the rpm. Congratulations on the accomplishment
  15. There are a lot of details that take time in this project. The journey you carved here is an impressive one, likely reflective of your core. You and the Mrs. will enjoy this creation for some time to come. Cheers
  16. OH MY GOD: fortunately my crowd knows better than to 1 mess with my snow, bend a blade of my grass, wake me out of a sleep, come near a window, peak thru my door.... lol True story and good timing: I have a small surgery coming up, I figured a local and then I'd meditate thru the rest, like the tumor I had removed in February. So I get the pre op call this week, asking a ton of questions. Well I asked are you guys planning on putting me under, lol ? Of course she said, oh chit I replied, still laughing as I write. I told her I would need to be restrained then, why she asked, I don't why but I just know it never goes as planned... So she set me an appointment with the anesthesiologist, too funny!
  17. Jeez Jeff if I had only kept up with the forum news I would offered to tap out the words for you! Jeff be mindful of this healing period, you're older than you tend to behave. I've lived with a draw ankle for most of my life. When they were putting my top half back together in the early 80's they suggested I get the ankle done as well, "NO WAY" I replied. My old man went thru that in 68 yuck! I'll be posting some warpdrive theory for your consideration and input. Maybe it will help us get home some day Pretty sure the eastern folks won't mind if you share some pain thru a snow fall/storm if it helps the pain some.
  18. Those bikes came with an engraved plated with the original owners name. Usually they can be found loose lying on the forward bank valve cover, 2 must do on that bike is one compression they tend to develop stuck rings and the output shaft has a plug that fails. The plug failing is critical and important to confirm that it has been replaced. Should the plug fail the output will lockup. Amazing highway bike, loads of inertia build, effortlessly passing under the worst conditions. Designed for comfort in hot or cold weather. Super heavy will rest on the crash bar like shes just low on the side stand, can make a fellow look foolish trying to get her upright lol. A monster to strip I must say, watch for sharp guides at the vent controls. The air pump is a easy rebuild located left front cowl. The starter solenoid is an easy thing to to determine an replace. Typical right control switches for the time and a cleaning goes a long way. Mine has no stand switch, be careful not to kicker her over in gear. Those mirrors look like the upgraded units, but the pulls looks stock to me. They have extended ones that are much more comfortable and a much easier pull. Mine ran well on the Bridge Stone whitewalls even in winter, big job tho. Tend to burn rich, 32mm setup lots of torque but low tank range.. The seats are air too. 2 rear shocks. Once you sort thru the bike just like the MKII plugs and stuff you will end up with a long distance reliable ride, in all weather conditions. Dangerous to not check that plug tho!
  19. I can help you with this project, if you need.
  20. Yah I did see mention of that in the book.
  21. No danger for Carl, we elected you, little brother, kind of like that Cheerio commercial, ask Mikey !
  22. Know what's worser is watching those returning home Vet clips Instant allergic reactions, sniffles, watery eyes, red nose, box of tissues and crusty bits of hardness turned to mush.
