POSITIONS: 1, red 2, brown we know he has no power on brown but where, it feeds fuses 2,3 & 4/ 3 is ignition also feeds coils and the rest of the starting circuit and, all in series off the red/white. We know he had house volts at the coils but drops to 10ish while cranking. The brown wire after feeding to the fuse box bypasses the starting circuit. There could be a fault in a connector for the red/white wire in the large 8 pin M/F connector plug as Carl suggested. The TCI red/white pin should read house voltage as should the rest of this circuit just like the coils have. As for the brown wire there could be a break after the fuse box? I would test it this way: remove the fuse those 3 fuses and the 2 pin (1 pin red the other brown) connector coming out of the ignition switch clip to make sure the circuit is open. Put one end of the meter to the brown pin at the rectifier connection pin, the other lead to the (this Br wire feed to) feed side of the fuse, it should read ∞.. Note this brown wire has no other connections showing in the schematics past the fuse box till it gets to the rectifier. 3, blue tail 4, red/black acc Ignition circuits at the bottom of the page.. https://www.venturerider.org/wiring/83%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale%20TDK%20Wiring%20Diagram%20Rev%20C.pdf

You can mock them up with plastic tubing or the PVC water tubing and a couple of fittings. I loosen grip and look a touch to the right and slightly down, stay chilled, we have to share the highways Mine aren't here but some nice ones to help choose https://www.google.ca/search?q=fog+lights&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjB9YnWjsXdAhV3FTQIHSYlCXEQsAR6BAgEEAE&biw=1229&bih=579

Well that mag look amazing, that's a lot of freaking tooth brush work! Will, I believe the flat plate bracket is cheezy. A tube bracket will cancel more vibration, stay true, and finish cleaner. I have tried small diving lights a time or two, and have always swapped them out for a larger glow like 3.5/4". I find I concentrate less on the lighting when it's soft while wondering as I tend too. I don't have any pics handy but found some years back a set at an import place well priced and suiting my older bike style. Chromed with a rear rippled deflector. I installed them on a 2 piece tubing that allowed me to connect to the crash bar and this allowed for easy positioning, also let me move them forward which I really like the look of and so looses the shadow of being right next to the frame. I didn't uses them during the day as they were power hungry. Thought of switching them to my 1.5 but couldn't bring myself to doing it. Another small thing I did to the 1.5 is, added 2 blue back-lit switches to the cowl of the cruise unit, they were low profile rocker type, amazing difference on eye comfort lighting below the dash can bring not to mention the look of the blue lighting. Positioning takes some thinking through tho. While there I tabbed the head seats with fiberglass in epoxy about the size of a quarter to prevent cracking as I'd be loading on a cantilever, something to think about.

Time to start playing a string instrument set the carbs to what the book says. floats have to work at the complete throttle range. Each time you clean a port you must use pressure to ensure the passage is clean/not restricted! I bet you can find those jets locally, give it a try -
Sorry this took me a while to check up on.. I closed my last post stating I had fire to all four cylinders and was dancing a little jig. Well the dance is over the spark lasted about one turn of the starter, so at this point I'm rechecking Bongobob's and Puc's amoung others who offered up some great info. I'll tell you what I've done and maybe someone can guide me thru this no fire nightmare. From the beginning: Puc sent me a TCI, plug wires, caps, up grade for the fuse box. I installed everything plus a new stator, new battery, regulator/rectifier, no for all that I have checked out. •Primary coil test at the coils: 1= 2.5, 2= 2.5, 3= 2.5, 4= 2.5 --- These test good •Secondary test at the coils; 1=13.64, 2=13.46, 3=13.76, 4=13.58 --- These test good •Test at the TCI plugs: for the ignition side I got an average of 2.6 ----- ? pickup coil generated •On the pickup side in order: 112.6, 115.4, 113.9, 112.9 ------------ These test good •I checked the red/white power lead into each coil with the battery reading an average of 12.30volts and a drop when engaging the starter to 10.36volts. ------- Disconnect head light for testing. Read only after you turn the switch to on, there is a sleep mode when crank isn’t rotating. •I checked the regulator and it had no power at the brown wires while starter was engaged. And Only when starter was engaged? •What we don’t see and perhaps was dealt with elsewhere: Emergency cut off/tip over switch. P 7-17 under inspection •Side stand switch & relay'(s) P 7-18 &19 Both relays (stand and fuel) must be tested there are 2 test per. •If these checkout we can proceed from there and if you like we’ll walk you through the bridge test for TCI switching. So that's where I stand and I still have no spark to the plugs. I did have a short burst from the nr.1 plug only and a little end spark as I released the starter. All of these test we're done with the plugs removed from the block but still attached to the plug wires. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Bobgobob, Puc, guys where do I go from here. I don't have a spare TCI, Puc and I were both pretty sure the one he sent me was in working shape and as far as I know at this minute it is still good. Thanks everyone for your help.

I am not instep with my 2 classmates I respect very much. I think the answers are in the thread I suggested last time we discussed this. Then with that understanding the group can adapt to your situation. I want to stress that I expect house voltage at the coils, always, and never more important then when 1: firing up 2 in the red line areas. Carl is in my opinion is on to one of perhaps many issues. You are bleeding current. This is an easy bypass. Next you should check TCI switching. This is a path to ground therefore a test can be tinkered. All the best

SO, A young lady goes to see her family doctor. The dock asks, how are you feeling and what brings you in today? She begins to blush and says, I seem to have a reoccurring greenish rash, it started 2 months ago. Really the doctors says. Where is this rash, show me. She explains between my thighs, It seems to go away after a couple of days then reappears! Ok get undressed and place your legs up in the..... and I'll be back in a minute. Dock leaves the room while she gets ready and goes to his library to look through treatments for a greenish rash. Minutes later he enters the room and begins the exclamation. Well he says, this is a strange one, I can clearly see the shapes of a 1/4 moon and as you say, greenish in color on both sides. hmm The dock then reach behind him for an alcohol pad and asks, are you actively dating? Oh yes I have been seeing a very nice fellow who treats me well and has just moved from Europe, said with a glow in her eyes! Yes I see as he opens the pad and begins to wipe the effected area. There now nothing to worry about, they are both gone now, I will give you some of these wipes to take with you. Really she says, what was it, will they come back? Well the doctor says while standing up; that depends - is your new boyfriend a gypsy he asks? Why yes she says, he is as she blushes a deep red! OK then, tell him he needs new earrings, preferably gold ones and this will stop the rash from coming back!

Yes Bob that looked like a thorough cleaning and covering all bases in maintenance. If I may comment on the driving lights. Nice way to fit them but I don't believe a good practice. What I have done on my touring stuff cars included is mount and angle the right side to shed towards the ditch or tree lines. The left I keep dead straight on. I like a glow off to the right not a tight spot lighting. I enjoy my night riding even tho my risk of... is higher the solitude is welcomed.

Personally agree with all the posts. What I read was KLM not miles? .58 of.. There are features I like. I did spend some time last fall with a BMW rider our age, it was the only bike for him, I might add his love of was well expressed. His mishaps cost him large tho he mentioned in a more quiet tone;) I work a while on German cars only hobby wise but on many. I do recall that the learning curve took quite a while to get and understand! The competitive nature in their reasoning on how things fit... 3rd dimension thinking or - something in the water they sip on. lol And this would be my strike against. Parts and repairs for me need to be easy enough when touring to remote places! A quick experience, touring with my boys across the prettiest parts of this Continent... I busted a cat, up in a place called WAWA. If I had continued on I would have cook the engine. $3000.00 to get that cat to us or car to them. This is what we pay out when we are nowhere in or on a German ride.. Of course I made a way thru the problem but just to say.. By no means am I suggesting a German ride is not a good ride but they are known for being hard on the budget..

Yes when I was looking up the pages and item numbers I simply forgot to include it, likely because it was at the end of the book. The cruise splitter pulley and pin can ware as well which can if the ID. goes out of round example, will generate some slack. Not a complaint we hear about on these bikes to my knowledge. Also not an item we ever recommend lubing.hmm Perhaps not servicing this part may be for the better verses the risk of messing it up? I wonder..

I have and still do ride for the day! I enjoy early rises, the quiet time that follows, breakfast time with strangers heading off to and in all different directions. The cold but sure fire of a well maintained bike, this quiet of a standard warming in this early days light.Yes this that separates egos, yes sir this is my ride! I enjoy the warming of the tires, the coffee and the teens serving at early days light. Those runny yokes and the taste of fresh bread, the pepper layers that hide the cooks lack of what's right . The pride in knowing I can match whatever or the solitude of knowing the days ending is just as its beginning, perfect to be held in ones fading eye sight. Colored by memories of past flights. Mine all mine, and mine alone, every curve, every stop, every Lady met along the way; those that choose me or those that ride past, every breath every mile all mine for keeps. The smile's I leave behind are theirs to keep. No extras no taxes all paid in full, mile after mile just another days ride, no history all taken in stride. Sun rise to sun set, mine, all mine, one mile at a time no reason required for choosing to say, adios lets agree its time for farewells - no long goodbyes my name is Carl I live not far from T.O;). 4 to a 1000 each one all mine, no bodies businesses, it is all mine! Time is just simply my rhyme so seeing you next time is reason enough for my moving on; good enough for me, adios, adios. We meet we pass, we share a drink and the company of a Lady or 2, no difference to either our colors stand true, black tops and white stripes I'll ride through this night- its always about adios, adios - too old now to fight;) Somewhere between us is where I long to be, so adios adios I've somewhere to be. Tight skirts and high heels surrounding me, fathers and uncles eyeballing me, up off my knee girl you're tempting me, I suddenly remember I've somewhere to be, so adios, adios before trouble finds me, I'll ride through the night with your memory, escaping from who you thought I might be. Over hills, through rain, smoke or fires I ride, distance is needed hell or high water just to stay free! Ask of my generation how far we have come? Where or when it all begone, which of us can remember that far young? Soon the shirt and tie will bind me once more, this freedom is short so please hold me not accountable for just being me, let me kick-start my freedom without account-ta-billity as I ride and ride from early to late and escape into, whats left of my freedom.... Patch (writing on Carl's behalf of course, I never lived so free)

I'll just add Bob that when the throttle is working correctly then everything is as is expected, but this is a cruise control rig and there is a splitter an added complexity. On another bike I have I had to replace the short cable from the cruise splitter it was well documented in the manual not so much in the Venture manual but is showing if you look carefully. Page 1-157 item 14
-
Yes I am but as you say it doesn't really do much, still a good principle. So you can always count on Pairriehammer to not guess. Take a look at 3-3 bottom left hand of the page,,, you clearly see the nylon bushing without interruption of the cable. Page 5-1 item 23 backs what Carl describes. So what can happen is when you snap the throttle back, its hot in that area potentially it can move away enough to snag So because this is a throttle cable their is still a practice of protecting and if possible completely eliminate any risk to limiting a free expected smooth operation of,,, period. Patch;)

Lots can be said about the event's leading up to this turning of the tides in your favor. In both interviews you lead a party of one, you weighed the potentials and you played the hand dealt. All singular true but not singular minded. If a leader can't stand for himself then he can't lead effectively. If you are to have a position where others who may have less risk are to follow you, then simply let them know you want to build a winning team and that, the winning part is the collective part of the team. Your last paragraph though I would address head on, perhaps in a memo or report summery. My opinion is, such leftovers don't deal themselves out. Meaning I would deal fairly with the facts (as you know them) then build your record without possibility of back-draft or shirttail comments down the road. Enjoy man you earned it Patch

The float heights looked about right as well I assume you measured the float heights. The pilot jet disappointed me in that I seemed to be cleaning them, but could not see even a glimmer of light through them which I thought I'd been able to do in the past You can place them over a flashlight that may help you. Yes you must see light through. They do have tiny holes through them. Using a lens the ends looked clean and I was sure I could just blow a little air through them. When they are blocked hard it is easier to poke wire through the in flow of the jet instead of the nose. A sewing needle is not a proper tool for this, as the taper can pack instead of push through. Having used an ultrasound cleaner, squirted them with releasing fluid and blasted them with an airline I wasn't sure what else I could do though and the three I could get out (one was too tight and I was worried I'd strip the head) all looked the same - if I'd been able to see through one I'd have persevered until all were the same. Heat the jet pack/housing in a pot with soapy simmering water for about 10 minutes. You'll need a cloth to hold it while you extract this jet with a proper fitting flat driver. My Flat Screwdrivers are tune for Carbs and are only used for carbs, the blade tips are ground true and nickle plating removed at the ends to reduce slip. If you can't for some reason remove this jet pass the wire through it while still housed in the jet body. All of the carb slides moved easily, but one seemed to 'stack', so if I wiggled it it felt as if pressure was building up, though it soon released. When I took the top off there was nothing amiss and it seemed the same as the others once I put it back. Either way - it starts more easily, though it still needed Easy Start. So fuel is only one of 4 requirements for sure, quick stats/ rotation speed, above 11 volts at coils, fuel/air, and compression.. Why would we use starting fluid, well for one Low Voltage at the Coils, second would be Choke/Enricher not working, third would be starting RPM too slow? You will need to rule on these. If you need help let us know. Then next time the carbs are off check compression and post the results, we know you have compression but how much we don't know, there is a good post on this that can and has helped improve results. Even when not starting it felt like it 'wanted to'. I took it out for a run and that seemed to help a bit, as did refuelling with fresh petrol - I seemed to have full power above 2,000 rpm, This is because the midrange takes over, that is to say the slide needles! but below that it was not happy and did not tick over. Hopefully getting the throttle stop set right and balancing the carbs will help, though they were pretty close on a bench set-up (all beginning to open at the same point). Until the pilot cirsuit is working there is no gain in syncing outside of the bench sync. Now back to cleaning the carbs: when the jet/housing/body/pack is removed you see the porting below it, each port must be cleaned with carb cleaner then blown out and, you need to be able to see the pressurized fluid pass through and exiting into the barrel!!! This includes the air jets and the enricher!!! Link below is for the 1200 but the plan is the same. http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/?action=article&cat_id=001010&id=366 http://www.carburettorshop.com/index.html -

Hello Greg, Hard to believe you knowingly reinstalled blocked pilot jets. Do you have twist ties, like what we here once used to tie off sandwich or garbage bags? If you have one then using your thumbnail strip back the green paper-rap about 25mm, use that to poke the gum out of the jets or, a single strand of copper wiring say leftover from adding a light to the sidecar. For the clutch, the actuator cylinder that drives the clutch at the lower end left side of the engine should be removed and cleaned then a final rinse with DOT3. check for pitting or o-ring damage. When you remove the actuator and while its soaking allow the hydraulic line to completely drain. Does the black rubber tubing appear to be in good shat? Can you see black particulates at the bottom of the reservoir? If you can I would remove the slave from the clutch reservoir then clean all with a brake cleaner or whatever you prefer to use. If it were me, I would rebuild the slave while its out, it isn't a difficult job, kits are available. After cleaning again flush all parts and lines with DOT3. Once all is reassembled refill the system leaving the lower bleeder cracked open, (I use a vacuum pump for this) then bleed as usual. Remember to use petrol stabilizer as your bike sits for extended periods. Also the clutch DOT3 will continue to accumulate water down at the actuator so get accustom to draining an ounce or so out. This will improve its performance also perlong part life. Patch -
Tire info. What's the latest and greatest or tired and true for 07 RSV.
Patch replied to Shadowhawk's topic in Watering Hole
Maybe its my age or the confusion that comes with it; but it seems these days that the line between cruising and touring has become blurred? Well we could say that line doesn't matter anymore or, we could ask the question should it matter. If we read through the manufacture site take Shinko for example, they write in clear translation;) that Shinko does not support blurring the lines. This places the onus on the purchaser. In my world this is referred to as "Due Diligence" and in this case suggests that/ should a tire rated for cruising fail on a 2 up loaded touring,,, the manufacture might not be held liable regardless of load or speed ratings? Perhaps the onus is on us the older generation of riders to express what we once knew to be the predefined rules that were taught to or handed down through engineering practices and trade offs? Engineering is better today in many ways but engineering has lost its contact with us; and is most often the case we hear or read "computer designed" so its must be an improvement!!??? Gone are the days when meets had factory engineer trained reps converting us to their theory and brand name. Take the racing action and knuckle engineering out of the name Caroll and the Shelby would never of been! A touring tiring can't just be load ratings, can't just be wet or dry, can't be just a corning or straight up, can't just be best range, or least expensive, it has to be all of the above and all of the time and, that can't nor should be cheap. Just another set of my opinions;) The Metzeler ME 888 is rated similarly to the ME 880 it replaces. Generally positive reviews as a cruiser tire. Better than stock Harley Davidson Dunlop tires. Consistent complaints that wet handling is not the best. Me888 yes I agree and is what I found when out with SK last fall he on the Michelin Commanders. But, only in deep puddles I would feel the front drawn out at any angle. In general though, I found these tires to tame the active nature of the gen 1.5 while allowing me to enjoy my aggressive style of riding in fact they brought a new experience to the feel of the bike every day and much of it was in very wet conditions last fall this time. Is the highlighted a burred line? Not to me no it is a defined target written alphabetically. So yes we can install a touring tire and all the benefits that apply to,,, on a cruiser,,, but can we reverse this new tendency??? Not in my day and to my way of thinking that's like arguing a slick to a beat cop "but its not raining Officer". From their website:Ultra mileage Metzeler ME 888 MARATHON™ ULTRA is the best partner for long and safe travelling on cruiser, tourers and their custom versions. To achieve this targets, Metzeler designers finely combined the specifications which determine the characteristics of tires: profile, structure, tread pattern and compound. https://www.metzeler.com/en-us/products/tires/me-888-marathon-ultra The Shinko 777 gets mixed reviews. The tire seems to handle well, but at a lower tread life as compared to other tires like the Dunlop 404. Why Dunlop 404 this is not a touring tire right we all know this so why compare Shinko 777 to 404s? The 404s have been around for a while and my first thoughts were they would snipe and coup at design cuts because of this straight cut style. This is also my impression of the 777 they would likely give an unexpected bit on a lean because of loads and inertia? This due to the vertical cuts 90* above contact and through the cross section of the radius? Perfectly acceptable for cruising not for touring, my opinion. Ok I've feel better about getting this off my mind! The manufactures need to get more active again and not sell us on price, veg promises and blurred lines, in fact they need to put there Butts back on the line, just as we must when we blindly follow marketing rubbish. Experience defines our future so .... -
Ford 3.8 & 4.2 old intake problem back to haunt 1996/98
Patch replied to Patch's topic in General Tech Talk
I've been a Ford guy for more years then anyone need know at least for our work trucks. They do last with maintenance, and usually not too difficult to repair, the key being able to repair parts verses replacing everything. I thought the torque spec I posted unusual: after reaching torque tighten an additional 90 degrees.. As many of us know we often explain that as 3:15 right.... Now I'm wondering if I'd be better off if I wait till 3:15 AM;) for the last 90* -
Certainly fluky that it nearly made it out;) This would have happen during the most turbulent moment and during the valve overlap, which is a very brief segment in crank timing.

I have tubes and lowers too I think,,, in a box on a very tall shelve.. I wanted to take them down to measure as I have a cross reference sheet for upper bushings, my shoulder wouldn't permit the effort at the time, good now tho. I don't mind parting with any of those parts, cost of shipping Casey. I would need to check them first. Let me know
