  1. GOOD One! lol I'm going to laugh this off for a while, writing thru teary eyes! Poor OP trailered bike to a shop.. Puc you sure can bring life to a party!
  2. Going to add this, 1 new 1 broken in, assuming they are matched tires.
  3. You are correct GrassHopper! But now pay close attention; on a shaft drive even with new bearings we can see some wobble between cost and drive sides of the ring, this because the ring isn't under load! Speed it up and you mask the lash;) But in my mind I don't see any abnormal roll on the wheel as shown in 0.8 sec of play, but, if the wheel were speed up then the bike would develop a very noticeable swing left to right and that would suggest as you and Don mentioned earlier something is out of order. We know we can't rely on the rotor as a tell tail unless its way wrong. We know OP has an issue leaned over in a curve but makes no mention that he is feeling a buck when riding straight up sooo, would a tire not seated buck at it highest point? I've heard good things about Avon but you know most tires are slippy when new, I think he should rule it out before tearing too much down is all.
  4. Also it is a new tire, you may want to give it a good washing with a brush and soapy water, Take it for a highway drive where you can brake it in straight up. Remember the tire in a curve is running higher up the tread pattern, these areas also need breaking in. In you video the tire isn't spinning fast enough to see any abnormalities, what you do want to listen for is, no squeaks or crunching sounds, and yes it is common to hear the pads rub some, a could rotor verse a hot one means little. You do know we enjoy other members problems right? Brings a sense of relief that its not us having the issue, and also that we are needed by someone, somewhere even if sadly only briefly;)
  5. Because you worked on the rear you must recheck the assembly take your time to regain your confidence in that she is back together smartly. My take on the highlight above, front forks! Does she mush like before this all happened? If so is it a smooth motion as you push the forks down, brake on bushing down? Can you feel any height difference sitting straight up on her? Finally if it proves not to be the rear work you did? Then I would check the forks and air lines for hydro lock. This will make you feel you need to ride her straight up thru curves or she feels like she want to drop when leaned over! If so that's the front forks! Patch
  6. "That bolt just traveled a mile thru the air" Well when you put it that way! Tell spooky camp fire stories too? Had a couple of close calls during my days climbing the nato com towers. One of our regular duties was the old built in the 40's LF's 320' high, the top we refer to as an (umbrella top) would need replacing due to lighting strikes every couple of years locations influenced schedule frequency. At the bottom of these LF whips would be a "ground screen" matching the umbrella. Depending on location the screen 1/4"copper wire would either be at ground level or if in rocky terrain above ground say and in this case 11' above form a disk; but conciser age and temperature the sag might only be a couple inches above our heads... So, we had the top umbrella down which means the last 100' of the tower is unstayed, hell of ride boys in the gusts. We had an amazing crew chief, old wise not to be questioned, pushed but trusted! He wanted the top stayed with 3/4" rope at 3 points cause of the high winds of a storm bearing down on us this would reduce some shear across the splice plates... Well it was getting late, light was low by the time we managed to tie the top off then he barked up the center of the tower to come down! Well we still had to wiggle our way thru the ground screen then shimmy down the concrete base, we didn't in those days have safety harnesses and all that modern light weight stuff of these days, we had thick padded tool belts with heavy spuds and a made by Good Year long strap that we slung around a leg to free our hands... You can speak the words "jump>" but you aint goin to cause your knees or a spud slipping up the belt loop would yell "stupid";) The point is it took time and just as we turned to walk now dark away from the base she was struck, what a deafening bang! There were 3 of us all better than 6' tall some how now pinned to the rocky terrain like mushroom on the north side of tree roots! Knee jerk reaction I guess really not sure what knocked us down other then the overwhelming surprise of the strike we were unharmed by the event other than being very sore from landing on the rocks! I guess the pain in the ass ground screen saved our sorry butts. I can liken the noise to supersonic burst which we were often exposed to of the fighters of the day ripping over or taking off... just very loud Think it a year back my F350 was struck on the highway heading into a cell I could see a fair bit away. It T'd off and the smaller branch struck the top of the driver door a load snap but not like the first one.
  7. Right On Luv!
  8. Bummer eh! We just never know what lurks behind the next curve, period
  9. Wow! That is hard news, I certainly hope he heels well, both injury's are difficult ones.
  10. Luv I've been meaning to ask how your career move is going? Happy?
  11. You may be right there Bluesky, I don't know the trans ratios at all on them. I took the point of view at the outset that 3.55 for a car that was to run highway period, would benefit form something closer to 3.0. In the end what I found, out of a 2011 was a 3.27 I think out of a Marquis... But thinking while writing here I still feel 3.55 is an unnecessary ratio for his use of the car; I'm looking at (minds eye) the the MASS and Throttle position at our highway speeds 120-130 klm seems to me that there is a savings to be had considering his one way trips are over 400 klm. I might venture as far as to say that the breakdown may pay dividends some 4 months down the road? Providing his O2's agree with the logic like close to standard compression, no vac or exhaust leaks, and clean injectors I would think she wouldn't see the need to richen up. You made a good point tho Patch
  12. Yep thankfully my ratchet keys 12mm worked. I've grown accustom to German cars where maybe 2 or 3 sizes is all you require at some end of the cars, this Vic I had standard and metric and way to many sizes... Oh well she's done, I'm done too;) Oh and some putts stole my small floor jack I left under the drive shaft last night:(
  13. I may be wrong but I see a spray pattern? If that is so then I would check the tubing from the pump to the carbs.
  14. Chris you should complete your profile, helps to know which old girl you are riding.
  15. Man OH man I’m not the man I use to be! A bit of background: Now that the boys are getting older and starting families so too are their friends. I do miss the activity of them around the house bringing projects over to our little shop, sitting around and sharing experiences… I tell you all that, I very much enjoyed watching them grow, some with family structure and some lacking there. Really I enjoyed my sons choices in friends and, I just liked being there for them whatever the situation; one of my favourite go to questions was “what are you not telling me;)” Well Rocky now about to have his first child is going thru what so many of us have had too at the time, which is to get serious and weigh our decisions and consequences.. As I’ve mentioned before Calgary and AB. In general has a struggling economy, opportunities today are hard finds regardless of age and experience so we stretch, sometimes over reach and, things get tight. Breakdowns can sometimes just be that tipping point. Well my young buddy started a small business 100 klm form Calgary before the bell rang its doin ok but of course there isn’t any security just risk. So he dusted off his engineering degree and found work some 400 klm east of home, traded a car he had plans for, for a Crown Vic police pack??? Now for those that don’t know, that is a 3.55 ratio, that is ring divided by pinon which means high rpm which also means poor highway mileage! Now what can we expect from a diff that constantly gets stepped on, right axel shear is correct. Yep and add to that expensive towing from nowhere to somewhere. So Rocky wouldn’t ask but my son mentioned it to me, and we went pulled it here but I have to work on it, on the RV pad cause you know the garage is stuffed with projects. I’m in-between work projects at the moment so yesterday I began pulling it apart; I thought I'd change the axel and bump the ratio to 2.73 or 3.08/ I found a nice 2.73 set which I planned to get but, after pulling the wheel I discovered the only reason it hadn’t run off was due to the caliper, once removed well the housing was pooched so.. Well I can’t tell you how sore I am today, I can’t think of a part on my body that isn’t screaming at meJ That is one serious setup them Vic’s have tying the diff to the chassis! And that top 24mm nut above the shaft for the upper control arms between the 2 mufflers….yikes! Working on this yesterday between rain bursts I finally get to pull it using my heavy floor jack and just like that I is flat on my back, the bar pulled thru… Today it rained here steady thankfully meaning I didn’t need to come up with a reason for hiding out! Tomorrow the boys will be around to help get the replacement unit in, tonight I’m going to soak, pop some Motrin so when asked “how did it go” I’ll lie and say “easypeezy” wouldn’t want them to think Dad’s too old to play these games, anymore! 16. Yah I know Bro! But, makes for a nice welcome to the club table for the OP; kind of like a promotion to 4th cousin status now;)
  17. You know of course that I am the least likely to correct anyone's spelling, just don't get it! But Tell me Puc how does one spell "spelt"? I use a gadget to help me spell or translate thoughts into this rule but not after... common folk language;) Can we only write it "spelled"? If so why does the note sound like SPELT? Take me to school Bro you'll be doin me a "favour" dat's Canadian for the American shortcut "favor"!
  18. Sometimes I get the feeling like I'm the only member that doesn't know what all the gifted members know; really hurts my feelens! Flynfool you miss spelt Harley! OP which Gen I are you riding? The older little sister with the big attitude or the younger heavier set one with the refined manners? Patch
  19. Ok good post. the low voltage readings may be a symptom not the problem. If you did not turn the idle down your self then the low idle is a symptom of partially clogged pilot jets! Or you may have cylinders not firing? 1st thing you should report back to us and enter into your log is ignition coil voltage key on only - then compare that to the battery voltage for all 4 as this measurement takes a couple of minutes to complete and the battery is being drained by the acc and lights! You may want to pull the head light fuse. Hard starting can be directly linked to low voltage readings at the coils when engine is cold! Then check to make certain that all 4 exhaust pipes heat equally, you could use something like spray bottle contain water, should boil off on impact say within 3 minutes. Next thing is to run some carb cleaner thru the system, how you choose to do that is your choice. The reason it may help is cause, perhaps the jets are only partially clogged, if they are solid then only a tear down works. Lets us know if you need any step by step instructions Patch
  20. Bluesky is right, finding these old rides with such low mileage is worth the effort. Very likely stuck rings. The lower the piston sits years on end the deeper the taper effect , the tighter the rings move into the landings. Many times on disassembly we find the pistons lay to one side when rested at the top and the ring can stick out away from the outward side of the V angle. I am going to leave out this answers for kick starting some thought to why pistons floating equally delivers more power. Time and distance are a set values valve timing a set value Displacement a known potential ignition timing is venerable so advance before TDC now break down what exactly TDC is. Remember the piston is not centered, the clearance between wall and piston is not equal, the rings can not lock compression, advance is wasted on stuck rings cause compression heat is to low. TDC the piston then......... 2 positions are now off center (do you know what is the second out of position is) and the result maybe heard as P...... S...... Somethin to think about Patch
  21. Nah, Carl's no rookie he knows better! What if Marla answers? Carl would spend the rest of his days building dog houses. Nope it's up to us to find him trouble;)
  22. See why you have all those jobs, she's purdy! But.... Check out the curves surrounding these lines;)
  23. Well Bongo this is what happens when I post past my bedtime!
  24. And you ride when? Best pray that the town don't grow or the answer will be never;)
  25. Well Cha if you do find yourself on the pretty side of the Great lakes, there's a trick to finding company I learned here on the forum. Mention to the Babes that you are Carl's young taller brother seems to bring smiles and favor:) oh and don't forget to leave his number with them just in case they need to get hold of ya!
