How much seafoam to use.
Bert2006 replied to Bert2006's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I do burn premium all of the time and stay away from regular or mid-grade to avoid ethanol. Using seafoam now with the intent to clean out carbs or prevent other problems. I bought this bike this year and it had 31000 miles on it. I have put 5000 miles on it this summer. Previous owner lefts me no records on maintenance and was probably runing regular fuel with 10% ethanol. Will also probably change fuel filter this fall and have new plugs put in and carbs syncronized next spring. Bike has ben running fine but noticed that it is sluggish on first start up in morning with sticky choke. Hope seafoam will help with that. -

Great thanks guy's. Alway's can count on you for swift responses. -
Added about 1\4 bottle of seafoam to a full thank of gas. Is that enough or too much. Plan on doing so for the next few months prior to storing for winter. Thanks in advance for any advice or wisdom you can share on this.

Searched posts for instructions to set height of headlight beam. Most say to measure 25 ft from bike headlight to reference wall while some say 17 feet. Which is correct? Thanks in advance.

Water Temperature for 2nd gen
Bert2006 replied to bikerjohn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry, not trying to hijack thread, but what type/brand temp guage would you recommend for the 2nd gen. http://www.visitedstatesmap.com/images/BCMBNBNSONPEQCsm.jpg -
Oh......hog as in pig hunting.......for a minute I was stupped at the desire to hunt down HD's:rotf::rotf:

Got into a 2nd gen this year after a 20 year hiatus of not riding. The last bike I had then was a first gen and it did not handle close the my current second gen. (2006 Black Cherry Beauty) At over 110 km/hr the front end on the 1st gen would lift and become very unstable.Crosswinds where also a ***** to ride in. On power it would also hit a wall above that speed. So for me the second gen is way better, it is well planted on the road with lots of power. Sorry first genners, no disrespect intended, just sharing my experience with it.

Just bought a Joe Rocket Balistic 12.0 textile jacket. Cant wait to try it out when i get back home next week. (At Canada Games in Sherbrooke Quebec cherring for my soccer playing son and we took the cage to get there.) Hope its not too hot. It has a removable liner and lots of vent holes. Its the first jacket I try out in a store that didnt cause me to sweat right up.

How to tell...headlight
Bert2006 replied to Bert2006's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry, not going to happen as it is a bit far and have used up all of my vacation time. Would love to take on such a road trip next summer though. -
On the 2nd Gen..how will I know if the headlight bulb burns out? Will I get an indicator on the dash? Same question for brake light. I am talking about when running during the day as if it happens at night I will be able to tell.. .added this last part to head off the smart alics... Thanks

Used the yamaha 13 inch and 4 inch wider and it is a big improvement both for visibility and buffeting.

Have you tried Craigslist. We have Kijiji here in NB and that works well for sales....and its free. BTW I like the tank graphics. Keep at it and the right buyer will come along

Finally some humour:big-grin-emoticon: Seriously though, thanks for your input on this one. I do and will continue to waive and will try not to get my ''whithy thignis in a knot'' as was suggested earlier:backinmyday:
-
OK. I am now confused about when to wave and when not to, heres why; Waived to a lone harley and he did not:mad: Waived to another harley who started to waive back but pulled it back - must have thought I was a harley for a second:crying: Waived to a group of harley's and only the last one waived back - thanks but why only him ? Waived to a crtch rocket and he did not waive back:mad: Waived to a scooter and he waived back - thanks:cool10: Waived to a Golwing and almost ran me off the road when he waived back with two hands-thanks but be carefull:shock3: Waived to trike who prompty waived back - thanks:thumbsup2: Waived to a LEO who turned his siren and lights off - thanks:clap2: Waived to a RSV who waived back but he almost went off the road - think it was the surprise of seeing another RSV:Venture: So I tried not waiving anymore and all of the above are now waiving......what to do.....
-
I would not recommend lowering this bike. I bought an 06 RSV that had been lowered and it handled very bad and scrapped in turns. I was at the point of not wanting to run it anymore. I returned it to stock height and it now handles like it should. Having said that, Barons make a kit to lower it. Perhaps others could pipe in with their experiences. I know some have opted to do a seat mod instead.

OK - tried the cheap way to upgrade tail light to leds. Went to Canadian Tire and purchased 1157 Eurolites 360 led for $14 and it ended up being about half as bright as standard bulb. Looks like i will need to cave in and go with the Custom Dynamics 100 light unit. Those of you who have that one, have you noticed if they improve brightness over standard bulb? Also, any other options out there? Thanks.

Oil Spot - Is that normal
Bert2006 replied to Bert2006's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the great explanation. I checked last night and oil level is between half and 3\4 of the sight glass (with bike level). Will make sure that I pay attention to not adding too much at the next oil change. -
You are welcome sir, just got some for our bike, we have composite helmets so used the ones with boom mikes. I did not buy the most expensive ones from J&M. They work great for intercom, but so so for music.

After extended rides (1h or more) I get a small amount of oil coming out of the tube right behind the kik stand. It is just enough to mark the concrete on the garage. Very dark and oily. Other than that not other leaks anywhere that I can see. Thanks
-
That would be correct, just make sure you order the one with the 5 pin connector (same one for HD's).
