  1. I connected the cable from the cb to the transmiter input on the meter and a short cable from the meter antenna output to the antenna. I think that is right, never transmitted without the antenna connected in line. Also noticed that when I would be taking readings the tx would not appear on the cb when transmitting. Once I removed the meter and reconnected everything the tx now shows. Weird.
  2. Essentially when I did the Marshall mod I removed the original antennas and the cb one was center loaded. I replaced them with the 3ft Francis CB antennas. They do not make an am\fm antenna so I used a matching cb antenna for am\fm. The Francis antennas are fiberglass with internal winding. And yes, I had the SWR meter connected properly..
  3. I am using the same type of antenna for the radio also. Went out and switched the antennas and I now get these readings: Channels 1 to 3 - no readings Channels 4 to 7 - intermittent readings of 1.5 Channel 8 - 1.5 consistently Channel 20 - 1.7 consistently Channel 40 - 2.5 consistently Also noticed that when I try to use the passenger transmit button I get a Cb error message. I took these last readings in my garage and will check again tomorrow with the bike in the open to see if it makes a difference. This is the antennas I am using: http://www.francisantennaonline.com/francis_antenna_3_foot_hot_rod_cb_antenna.html
  4. Finally got around to take some SWR readings after completing the Marshal mod last month and here is what I get: Channel 1 - no reading Channel 20 - got 2.5 once then nothing Channel 40 - nothing Repeated readings 3 times with chan 20 giving a reading only once. Tried with bike engine on and off. Also noticed that the push to talk button on the passenger armrest does not seem to work, so had my son sit on bike and push the talk buton on the bars while I took readings in the back. When I transmit and am on FWD, I can calibrate but when I then switch to REF the needle buries itself to the left with no movement. Is my antenna too short? I have the 36inch Francis mounted on a fold-down, then the base and then a 90deg to the cb cable. Seems like 4ft units would be way too long. The meter I am using is a Workman Model:SWR -2T, Impendance 52 ohms, Acuracy 5%, Min power for SWR frequency range - 27MHz Any ideas? Thanks
  5. Take a look at this thread, it shows how to remove the winshield. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=494
  6. Pressure washing a motorcycle :crying: Be carefull with that as it will get expensive real fast with high pressure water going everywhere...
  7. Removing the gas tank is real easy, actually easier than trying to fish wires through.Freebird has an excellent write-up on how its done here. If I can do it following these instructions, you can too. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=737
  8. That would actually help in compensating for all that stuff that hangs in back of the trunk:confused24:
  9. Here is what I have. Bought the XXL size http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/nelson-rigg-deluxe-all-season-cover.html
  10. Bodaggit Looks like your boss is treating you right. Also to clarify, in no way did i mean to question the value of your work through my comments. Glad it will work itself out in the end and congratulations on the raise.
  11. Here are the issues that come up in my mind for this: 1. Is the Boss the owner of the company? If not, he has no right to abuse his employers resources to grant a raise to an employee for a mistake that he did. That would be cause for dismissal for the Boss and potentially also for the employee who gets the raise under those circumstances as that is fraud. 2. Understand the difficult position that Bodaggit is in as he does not want to lose his employment, but even with the 2$ raise there is the potential that more damage was done to the bike than the fender. Some may take offense to what I am saying, but raises are granted for good performance not as an effort to cover up a mistake from the boss. I appreciate that the boss owned up to it, but the remedy used is the wrong approach. ''You get a raise, wow I must be doing good, no its because I damaged your property.....
  12. So I hope he is covering the damage? Looks like the bike was dragged backwards from the skid mark left by the kickstand. May be more than a fender damaged. Are there cameras in the yard that would have caught it?
  13. Yup best 40 bucks I ever spent. Keep it in the saddlebag so it is always available.
  14. Cheaper to buy the proper pump than to replace blown seals...your call...your money....
  15. I weight 235lbs and my wife 120lbs. Ususally run the following pressures: front forks: 3psi rear shock: 40psi front tire: 36psi rear tire: 40psi It is a bit stiff when riding solo, but perfect when 2 up.
  16. Have you checked the wires next to the steering stops to see if they got pinched? These are the wires would feed the driving/passing lamps if you have them. More info on this post: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85002
  17. Here is an option. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84450
  18. Glad you are recovering and not hurt more than you have. I do applaud you for you attitude and your ability to forgive. You are a greater man than I am as I would not be able to forgive someone who by their actions would have endangered me or god forbid my passenger, especially if they are cowards who elect to run and not face the music or even stop to see if someone was injured. More and more we see hit and runs with cowards getting away with it and that is infuriating to me. Hope you make a full recovery soon and get to enjoy your new bike again.
  19. It sort of goes along with a quote I just read, which states “The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits” – author unknown. Number One Idiot I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the poison control center. Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants. I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants. I told her that she better bring her daughter into the emergency room right away. Here's your sign, lady. Wear it with pride. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Number Two Idiot Early this year, some Boeing employees on the airfield decided to steal a life raft from one of the 747s. They were successful in getting it out of the plane and home. Shortly after they took it for a float on the river, they noticed a Coast Guard helicopter coming toward them. It turned out that the chopper was homing in on the emergency locator beacon that activated when the raft was inflated. They are no longer employed at Boeing. Here's your sign, guys. Don't get it wet; the paint might run. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Number Three Idiot A man, wanting to rob a downtown Bank of America, walked into the Branch and wrote this, "Put all your muny in this bag." While standing in line, waiting to give his note to the teller, he began to worry that someone had seen him write the note and might call the police before he reached the teller's window. So he left the Bank of America and crossed the street to the Wells Fargo Bank. After waiting a few minutes in line, he handed his note to the Wells Fargo teller. She read it and, surmising from his spelling errors that he wasn't the brightest light in the harbor, told him that she could not accept his stickup note because it was written on aBank of America deposit slip and that he would either have to fill out a Wells Fargodeposit slip or go back to Bank of America . Looking somewhat defeated, the man said, "OK" and left. He was arrested a few minutes later, as he was waiting in line back at Bank of America. Don't bother with this guy's sign. He probably couldn't read it anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Number Four Idiot A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40. Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture, this time of handcuffs . He immediately mailed in his $40. Wise guy ... But you still get a sign. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Number Five Idiot A guy walked into a little corner store with a shotgun and demanded all of the cash from the cash drawer. After the cashier put the cash in a bag, the robber saw a bottle of Scotch that he wanted behind the counter on the shelf. He told the cashier to put it in the bag as well, but the cashier refused and said, "Because I don't believe you are over 21." The robber said he was, but the clerk still refused to give it to him because she didn't believe him. At this point, the robber took his driver's license out of his wallet and gave it to the clerk. The clerk looked it over and agreed that the man was in fact over 21 and she put the Scotch in the bag. The robber then ran from the store with his loot. The cashier promptly called the police and gave the name and address of the robber that he got off the license. They arrested the robber two hours later. This guy definitely needs a sign . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Idiot Number Six A pair of Michigan robbers entered a record shop nervously waving revolvers. The first one shouted, " Nobody move !" When his partner moved , the startled firstbandit shot him . This guy doesn't even deserve a sign. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Idiot Number Seven Arkansas: Seems this guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back knocking him unconscious. It seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass. The whole event was caught on videotape. Yep, here's your sign . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Idiot Number Eight I live in a semi-rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the Deer Crossing sign on our road. The reason: " Too many deer are being hit by cars out here ! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore.". Take the sign - Please ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stay Alert ! They walk among us ... they Reproduce ... they Vote and I'm sure that many of them hold elected office
  20. Brian, WOW its all there and very detailed. Thanks for reminding me of the PM and thanks again for taking the time to spell it out for me.
  21. Pulled the red rubber tip off the end of the Francis antenna and was expecting to find some kind of screw to help adjust the SWR but there is nothing, just a blunt cut. How would I adjust this one? They say they are pre-tuned. Also that folding base that was wiggly will not fold anymore as the sleeve will not pull up. I just ordered 2 more and hope the are both thighter so I can have a spare. I also noticed that there was already rust on the folding mechanism for the other one so i smeared on some dielectic grease on it.
  22. Its actually on the bottom right of the engine.
  23. Just got back on-line in the office...here is an update. Well we got the brunt of that storm here in Frederciton and central New Brunswick. Up to 1/3 of the province has been out of power/phone/internet since early saturday. Lots or trees down and damage to homes. High winds and and rain caused all of the problems. My trees are all leaning at a 45degree angle and will need to come down. There are power crews here from Maine and Quebec helping out but it will take a while to get everything back up. Good news is no one got hurt. For us we are told we will only get power back on Friday if all goes well...glad I got that geny at CndTire last winter. Oh, and we did make that wedding in Bouctouche on Saturday as the storm come through. Now driving there in the storm was pretty scary but I did see a couple on GoldWing heading right into the main part of the storm as I was leaving Fredericton. They probably were not aware of what they were driving into. Hope they are ok. Sending this from work computer as we have power and conections now.
  24. Enjoy
