  1. Ok thanks, my thinking exaclty on not wanting to be left stranded by the old pump if its just the clogged filter. I will change both now and hopefully :whistling:be done with it. Will also be replacing that filter on a regular basis and once a year sounds just about right.
  2. Thanks Seaking and Neil86: I have resolved myself to replacing both the pump and the filter. ($350 for pump and $22 for the filter--OUCH). This way I have peace of mind on a go forward basis, would hate to be stranded away from home. Based on your comments, I will replace the filter first to see if the pump works. Then, if it does, I will still replace with the new pump and then look at replacing the points on the old pump and keep it as a backup. Wonder if that Seafoam I added to the tank before leaving on the Europe trip got some crud through the system to the filter? Although I suspect that the fuel filter is the original with over 45k miles on it. I take it I do not need to disconnect the battery to change out the pump, but make sure that the key is off until everything is buttoned back up again? Thanks for the advice.
  3. Bike worked fine on Friday, this morning went to start it up and it did start, stayed on full choke for about 1 min then suddently bogged down and stalled. I got it to run again for a few seconds but then nothing.:bang head: The other thing that I noticed was that lately my power was up on a full tank but would not be as prime as the tank wore down. Filled it up on Friday though. Based on those symptoms I now believe that the pump quit. I have not heard it clicking for about a full month now, so I guess I am lucky it happened at home and not on the road. Checked on ebay for a set of points and with shipping to Canada it will cost me about $90 + probably 2-3 weeks for delivery. That is too expensive and will take too long. Will call dealer this morning to see if I can get a set of points from him, if not will get a whole new pump and filter. Bike has 45000 miles on it.:mad:
  4. Ok, thanks. I guess I worry too much:scorched:. Getting paranoid with all of the talk about fuel pump failures.
  5. Have been using the J&M Performance series with no problems at all, both in modular full face and shorty helmets. http://www.jmcorp.com/SeeProducts.asp?PF=12
  6. Ever since we where away in Europe and the bike sat for over 15 day's I do not hear the usual clicking of the pump when I turn the bike on. I would have expected after it not being used for 15 day's that it would have needed to prime, but only one click. Is this normal or am I heading for having to replace the points? I did dump a half can of seafoam in it before I parked it. Bike runs fine and starts on first try. On choke, I did notice that it seems to want to bog down a bit after a few seconds, when I go to half choke works fine. Once in a while on starting on full choke I am sensing a backfire through the carb when it starts but it starts and runs. Any ideas:confused24: Thanks
  7. Here I thought it was the anouncement for the new RSV:bang head:
  8. Sad news, never easy when we lose them...
  9. Looks good and WELCOME!
  10. It was just a weird feeling that never allowed me to have full confidence in getting too agressive with it. Maybee its just the difference of the 1st gen having a frame mounted fairing as opposed to the handlebar mounted one on the 2nd gen? Could have simply been that there was an unrecongnized problem with the 1st gen I had. On the 2nd gen (and I am sure this will start another debate:stirthepot:) steering was very heavy until I moved from a 150 to a 130 size tire in the front. Since then it is very agile at low and high speeds.
  11. I would say that is a matter of preference on your part. I used to ride a 1rst gen and never felt that that bike was well planted at speed. Alway's felt like the front end was lifting and getting skittish. My current 2nd gen is the best riding bike I ever had, so for me the answer would be no. You should also factor in the age of the 1st gen as you get into issue of part availability and also rubber and plastic parts simply deteriorating after time. I am sure that others will chime in on this question based on the on-going ribbing between 1st and 2nd genners
  12. Here is a post that Freebird did on it, it and the whole thread should answer most of your questions on them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 HD is not producing these anymore so you will have to look on ebay as they do show up from time to time. I picked a set up on ebay auction last fall for $60 and then converted them to LED. That was a good deal as most go for about $200.
  13. Cant come soon enough. I am sick and tired of all the idiots who still dont get that texting and driving is the ultimate distraction.
  14. I have an 06 that does the same thing once in a while. Usually as the temperature drops and only the first time in the morning. Had the bike for 2 years and did it from the get go. I keep between 30 and 40lbs of air pressure in it.
  15. Has anyone tried these new Star branded lights yet. They say they can be retrofited to existing buckets. They are pricey:mo money: https://www.yamahapartsandaccessories.com/product/details/led-chrome-passing-lamps?b=Star+Motorcycle&d=12
  16. I was asking because I am running the 2600lm led from CanadianCruisercustomizing and there is not much of a difference between high and low beam. I am experiencing all of the same things as you. Still like it better than stock though.
  17. Would be interested to know if there is a marked difference between low and high beam.
  18. Take a look at this thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=84450
  19. Ok thanks, will keep that in mind if it acts up again.
  20. Changed the fuse and holder this morning and put a 1a fuse in. Also found that my battery terminal screws where stripped and loose, so that could have been the start of a larger problem. I replaced them with longer ones and now all seems to be snug and tight. Thanks again for all the help.
  21. Thought that also, but the hard wire kit for mc from Garmin has that hard to find .75a one.
  22. Man you guy's are fast in responding. Thanks, will do the fix tomorrow morning.
  23. Hi folks, My GPS (Garmin Nuvi 200w) has been loosing its power connection lately and I think I have isolated the problem to the in-line fuse holder. It is a glass type with a .75amp fast blow fuse in it. When I wiggle it power comes on and off. The fuse looks good but the holder is loose. I am looking to replace the holder with a waterproof blade type but the closest fuse size I can find is either .50amp or 1 amp. Will I hurt anything if I go with a 1amp fuse? Thanks
  24. Here are a few links that provide info on mc tires that some may find useful http://www.maxxis.com/sponsorship/motorcycle/motorcycle-tire-school#motorcycle_speed_ratings http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/379/749/Motorcycle-Article/Motorcycle-Tires-Product-Guide.aspx http://motorcycletirereviews.com/tires.html
  25. It should have come with a bar that would slide into the centerstand attachment points on the bike. As far as alignment there is really only one way that you can put it on the bike. See attached picture.
