How did you get Hooked - Picture of your first motorcycle?
Bert2006 replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
I grew up in a household where motorcycles where seen as very dangerous and thus not encouraged at all to go that way by my parents. Thankly, my older brother broke the ice and started riding about 2 years before me. He got me hooked. At 17 I bought my first bike -- a black Yamaha XS1100. I was always a big guy so no 650s for me to start on. I bought this bike without my parents knowing and stored it at my brothers house while he was teaching me how to ride. Now my father happened to be the driver examiner in town, so I booked an appointment in the next town to do my drivers test (behind his back). Got there did my test, passed and drove home to break the news to mom and dad. When I got home, there is dad sitting in the driveway waiting for me and he is royally pissed. (The driver examiner in the other town called him to tell him how good a job I had done on the test.........Dad said 'what motorcycle test??......I will leave you to guess what was said next). Anyway, when I drove in I figured the cat was out of the bag and offered him a ride on the spot. To my amazement he hopped on and off we went........he took me to where he does the technical part of the test (figure 8 and circles) and made me do it in front of him. So after now doing the test twice in one day he was at least satisfied that I could ride....albeit just beginning. It took a long time to regain his trust but in the end he truly enjoyed hopping on once in a while. Had that bike for 2 years and then I moved up to a First gen Royale for another 3 years. Then I stopped as I had access to more horsepower than brains and it was just a matter of time before I would kill myself. Did have a few close calls but one bad one with a transport truck that sealed that deal. Now 25 years later, 2 years ago I figured I had matured enough (yes it took a while) and bought my current 2006 Second Gen. Now defensive driving is the norm and hope to remain riding for a while so I could catch up on those lost years. Thats my story......... -
Ya, I am in the snowy one.....

In our case we have two sets of helmets ( 1 set of shorties and 1 set of Modulars). They are all wired with the J&M units I mentioned in my previous post. In the Modular helmets the sound is fair to good as a result of the noise generated by and within the helmet. In the shorty helmets, we have zip-in ear pockets and neck protectors for the speakers and end up with the speakers closer to the ear and less wind noise with the resulting better quality in sound. We do not have to put the volume as high with the shorties. As far as the microphones, its the reverse, we get less wind interference with the Modulars than with the Shorties where the mic is fully exposed to the wind. Hope this helps.....

We have the same helmets and use the following headsets from J&M (Products), you also need to order the right 5 pin patch cord (HC-PC - 1983–2014 w/5-pin system). Sound quality is good for the price.

Great tip, thanks!

Motorcycle Flagpole Mount and Canada Flag - Leather Master Found and ordered 2 of these this morning. Came out to 118$ with shipping. Hopefully they are sturdy?
-
Thanks, they like everything else cost more here in Canada. I am looking at folding flag holders and that does add to the price. Also, with the Cnd dollar being so low and the costs of shipping and import charges it is now better for us to get stuff from Canadian suppliers. Just saw a video in another thread showing how a fiberglass antenna was bending at speed and that has convinced me to not use them as flag holders. I will take a look at any lead though........
-
Ok, thanks for the replies, having a hard time to justify the cost (170.00) for 2 flag holders.:mo money:May take a chance with the antennas anyway as they are cheap to replace.
-
I now have fiberglass antennas and am wondering if I can use these to fly small 6x9 flags. I know a number of members had problems with breaking stock antennas when used with flags, but would the fiberglass ones be stronger? I have the 3ft Francis ones. They are only $20 each, so I could always try it as they are cheap to replace. Thanks

I would not worry about it. All on the site seem to be fully aware of your dedication to this site. Sounds like the former member needs to grow a bit of a sense of humor. BTW from what I have seen, you seem to be the target of most of the HD jokes so if anyone would have had a reason to be upset you would, but you do have a sense of humor. Also, I am very interested to hear what you have to say about the HD, as I am like you, if Mother Yamaha does not make an offering soon it will be going the way of HD or Indian for my next bike.

Cannot find my picture albums?

Never mind, found it by hitting ''user gallery'' next to name above. -
I have been monitoring eBay and Kijiji for past year trying to get my hands on a set of Vance & Hines Monster Ovals and 99% of the ones I see posted as second hand are either pitted or have chrome pealing off them, especially the end caps. This is leading me to re-think as V&H seem to have quality issues with their plating. I would be interested to hear about your experience with them if you have them on your RSV. I would not mind dropping :mo money:for a set that has a few scratches, but what I am seeing on-line is bad pitting or pealing. Thanks

Love it, where can u get one?

Rear tire change.....what to do???
Bert2006 replied to Kettlinton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have done it and only removed the bags and slip-ons. No need to remove anything else such as trunk or rear foot rests. There is a write up on it in the 2nd gen tech section. Here is the link: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/suspension-tires-handlebars-etc-/515-rear-wheel-removal.html -
TomTom Rider GPS Swat Boots But more importantly quality time with my wife and son.

How much do you pay for FULL coverage insurance on your 2nd gen?
Bert2006 replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
I have been paying about $600 per year. -
Had same thing happen to my 06 this fall. I opted to buy an OEM from Yamaha and will buy a new set of points to fix the old one so I have it as a backup. While you are in there changing the fuel pump, you should also change your fuel filter as if it is clogged up, it will contribute to making the pump work harder.

While you are looking at the pivot point for the forks check for any chaffed or pinched wire. It is common for wires to get pinched by the steering stops on both sides.
