Probly told them he drove a HD:confused24:

Wow old tread, but I too dropped the 404 due to poor handling and wear...moved to Commander IIs and handling is 100% better and they still look new after 6000miles.

Test rode a Royal Star today, HELP?
Bert2006 replied to GilliganJ's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have gone to the 130 in front and it was an improvement in handling not what is described by Gilligan. Does it have a lowering kit, is the rear shock good (no leak), are the front shocks equalized (air). I run the following pressures. Tires 36 front and 40 rear. For the shocks 3 front and 30 to 40 rear . How is the steering head bearing? -

Just so you know even at that short lenght I only get wind on top of my helmet. My wife is not a tall person, so as a passenger she does not get wind as she is shorter than me even when sitting. She did notice less buffeting from the sides though.
-
Yup, thats what I am running using Commander IIs and handling at slow speed was improved greatly with very little stability impact at higher speeds. Go for it...
-
Yup, I had my numbers wrong, just measured and it is11inches from top of trim to top of shield. They usually measure from lower down so 12.5 would be right. The witdh measured from the inside is 27inches. Sorry about that:whistling:

I got it from Yamaha through my dealer, it is a stock part for them. Was about 150cnd for it 2 years ago.
-
I am on a 2nd gen and replaced the stock 17inch screen with a shorter 14inch as I could not stand to look through it. Now I am loooking over it. The new screen is also wider on each side. Suprisingly, the buffeting was also reduced. I run shorty helmet in the warm months and a full face in the colder months.

After searching for the past 2 years for affordable VH Monster Oval I gave up and ordered a set of brand new RK takeoffs from the HarleyPicker. Also ordered a set of the wide clamps. So for about $100 in parts and another $100 in shipping (yes I live in the boonies) I hope that the sound of the RK pipes are an improvement. From the clips I heard on YouTube they should add a bit more rumble even if they do not match the deep rumble of the Monsters.

I am about 20 min from Base Gagetown, so I know how he feels with the amount of snow we had this year. If you do come down on the scoot, give me a call and I could show you the area.

I have noticed a similar issue with posts that I start or respond to. They will not show up when in the ''Whats new'' page, but I can usually find them again under the Forum sub tab called ''today's posts''.

Yup on the back bottom of each pipe.

How did you get Hooked - Picture of your first motorcycle?
Bert2006 replied to VanRiver's topic in Watering Hole
I grew up in a household where motorcycles where seen as very dangerous and thus not encouraged at all to go that way by my parents. Thankly, my older brother broke the ice and started riding about 2 years before me. He got me hooked. At 17 I bought my first bike -- a black Yamaha XS1100. I was always a big guy so no 650s for me to start on. I bought this bike without my parents knowing and stored it at my brothers house while he was teaching me how to ride. Now my father happened to be the driver examiner in town, so I booked an appointment in the next town to do my drivers test (behind his back). Got there did my test, passed and drove home to break the news to mom and dad. When I got home, there is dad sitting in the driveway waiting for me and he is royally pissed. (The driver examiner in the other town called him to tell him how good a job I had done on the test.........Dad said 'what motorcycle test??......I will leave you to guess what was said next). Anyway, when I drove in I figured the cat was out of the bag and offered him a ride on the spot. To my amazement he hopped on and off we went........he took me to where he does the technical part of the test (figure 8 and circles) and made me do it in front of him. So after now doing the test twice in one day he was at least satisfied that I could ride....albeit just beginning. It took a long time to regain his trust but in the end he truly enjoyed hopping on once in a while. Had that bike for 2 years and then I moved up to a First gen Royale for another 3 years. Then I stopped as I had access to more horsepower than brains and it was just a matter of time before I would kill myself. Did have a few close calls but one bad one with a transport truck that sealed that deal. Now 25 years later, 2 years ago I figured I had matured enough (yes it took a while) and bought my current 2006 Second Gen. Now defensive driving is the norm and hope to remain riding for a while so I could catch up on those lost years. Thats my story......... -
Ya, I am in the snowy one.....

In our case we have two sets of helmets ( 1 set of shorties and 1 set of Modulars). They are all wired with the J&M units I mentioned in my previous post. In the Modular helmets the sound is fair to good as a result of the noise generated by and within the helmet. In the shorty helmets, we have zip-in ear pockets and neck protectors for the speakers and end up with the speakers closer to the ear and less wind noise with the resulting better quality in sound. We do not have to put the volume as high with the shorties. As far as the microphones, its the reverse, we get less wind interference with the Modulars than with the Shorties where the mic is fully exposed to the wind. Hope this helps.....
