Ok Wizard and Kevin. I'll start there. I just was fixing my CLASS system last week (E1 and E4 codes) and got it running and that might figure since I was in that side of the fairing. I'll let you know.

I got my 89 VR back from the shop the other day and found that the AM side of the radio was not picking up any stations, and the FM side is really only picking up the strongest of the local stations. I've pulled the stereo from the fairing and checked connections for something like the antenna not connecting properly, everything looks ok. To me, it's pointing towards the antenna not being connected, but I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary. Any suggestions? Thanks, Brett

Thanks, I think you're right. -
Is there a difference between the marker lights on the 88 model and the 89? The lights I'm talking about are the set of 10(ten) that are located on the rear, just below the license plate and stop light. Six are on the back, with a set of 2 located at the bottom of the rear of the saddlebags. I think that I've been looking at my ride as a 89 when it may be a 88? I'm looking for the chrome piece w/the lights, mine is cracked. Thanks.

I had mine last week on the way to work at 3:30 in the morning. Just left the SA after downing a morning cup of coffee and talking with the girls working and had another 10 miles to work. Pulling up to the stoplight and getting ready to get into right-hand turn lane, with a HD Sportster in front of me, a woman riding. First she's in the lane to go straight and at the last minute she decides to go right, with me ~10ft behind her. Hit the brakes, downshifted and held on. She continues onto the highway and so do I. then, about a couple of miles down the road, she slows up to me and plays the speed-up slow-down game, only to finish it off with flipping ME the bird! What I can only conclude is, at that time of the morning, there must have been some sort of beverage involved. Too bad, but it takes all kinds.

Does anyone have a place out there that they have found that is a good source for accessories for the 1st Gen's? Seems lately that all the places I've looked at when they say they've got 1st Gen equipment, it's really that it's meant for the 2nd Gens. Chrome, comfort accessories, etc, is what I'm looking for. Just wondering, maybe I just haven't looked hard enough yet. Thanks, Brett

My 89 VR had just had the clutch replace this spring. After getting it back on the road a week, I noticed that after ~1-2 hrs of solid running, the clutch starts to lose pressure and then almost disappears completely. This is after some moderate city, stop and go traffic and on a 85+ deg day. After getting to my destination, and after letting it set and cool for about an hour, the clutch pressure started to return. Letting it sit overnite almost returned it to normal. Fluid level in the master cylinder has always been at the full line. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brett

89 Shifting
bart1963 replied to bart1963's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the responses. I had the clutch done because I was experiencing slipping last season and was planning on doing a few longer trips this year. I had found this "mechanic" and was led to believe he could handle it. After a month and a half of waiting for it to be finished, numerous excuses as to why it wasn't ready, and believe it or not, broken parts that he wasn't working onb, I decided to cut my losses. When I did contact him about the shifting problems, 1) I get voicemail all the time, so now he's screening calls and 2) he's saying that he didn't touch anything that would effect the shifting. So go figure!! I'll be getting it taken care of at a reputable mechanic, and I'll be sending him the bill for the additional repairs. -
Hello all, I've just gotten my 89 Venture Royale back from the shop for a new clutch install. Had it running for a few days and noticed a hard (or harder than normal) shifting around town. Was downshifting the other day and got down to 3rd and went to downshift to 2nd and was completely without a gear. No upshift, no downshift. Managed to get it off the road and found that the gear selector on the dash would show going into a gear, but when my foot left the pedal, it would not stay into gear. Managed to hold it up (shifter) to get into 4 and after getting it moving a holding my foot up on the pedal, it would stay in gear and made it home. Now, in the driveway, it won't go into gear without a considerable amount of force, and some clunking noises coming from the gearbox. I do not think that it was this way before the clutch replacement. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Brett

89 Venture Royale- Preventive Maintenance
bart1963 replied to bart1963's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Snaggle, The battery that is on the bike is a "Batteries Plus" brand. There was no probe going down into one of the cells, hence I was wondering how it was sensing a low water level. I'll look for the probe and try to replace it. Thanks
