I'll more than likely go midweek to avoid the weekend chaos.

I've had to upright my RSV more time than I'd like to admit. Only once did I need assistance. Sloping pavement, the cause of the spill, made it much more difficult to lift. I sat and waited, a bypasser pulled over and assisted. A long time cyclist, had been there and done that and was happy to help.

Well, it's over. 1060 miles (on my odometer, 1047 on google maps) in 19.75 hours. Eleven riders started, 9 finished. At the 200 mile mark the rear tire on our leaders Vision blew at a bit over 70 mph in the center lane of I75. Lee managed to scrub off a lot of speed and get on the shoulder before he highsided. Another rider accompanied him to the hospital where he was held overnight, six broken ribs and a fractured collarbone. The rest of us continued on. It was my first Iron Butt and it wasn't as difficult as I anticipated. I could have dressed warmer, I'd forgotten how extended periods riding in low 50's chills the soul. I was glad my 30 year old leather pants still fit, the jacket, a bit too tight to be comfortable on extended rides. It was an experience with great folks that I'll now call friends. Today, I'm not so sure I need to do this again. It's on my did it once list with parachuting and scuba diving over 200'.

Previous owner installed Road King mufflers on my Venture. Some days I like them and some days I don't. I have the originals and think of switching often. How quiet are the oem silencers?

Saturday, 4:30 am, I embark on an Iron Butt 1000/24 Run. I've installed new brakes, a rear tire and fresh oil and think the bike is ready to go. We're following the perimeter of Florida, a 1039 mile route. The weather forecast looks perfect, with a temperature range of 56-75 degrees with only a 10% chance of rain. I just wish there was more daylight. Details http://www.meetup.com/360Riders/events/195770712/

I live in a townhome without a garage. I have two assigned parking spaces. The Homeowners Association got all bent out of shape because I parked my Kia Soul and the Venture in one space. They fit fine and actually took up less space than the my pickup. After discussion, I gave in and parked my truck off property leaving the Venture in one space and the Soul in the other. Two o'clock Sunday morning security had the Venture towed. I went and retrieved it at a cost of $178. The association president who authorized the tow now says it shouldn't have been towed and expects the security company to reimburse me. Fortunately the security head is a reasonable man and will write me a check. The association president, well if you don't have anything nice to say........... Security guy says he will not tow another vehicle from the neighborhood as rules seem to change depending on whose vehicle it is.

I'm going to have to bail out, I've got a lunch date with my six week old grand daughter on Sunday. Travel safely everyone, catch you next time.

I never use the heal and am about to hack it off as I hit it often putting my foot down and my pants get caught on it. It hasn't caused a fall yet, but I can see it coming. I bought a used replacement to amputate.

Anybody want to post what they paid for their used bikes?

Seventeen months ago I flew to St Louis,MO to pickup my 2008 RSV. In showroom condition with 17000 miles, I paid $9000. We got to know each other on the 1200 mile ride home. It was my first time on a full size touring bike and a bit different than my Road Star. I've put another 15000 miles on it and look forward to many more. -
So 9th Sept at Bok Gardens then? Time 11 ish? Seems to be it. That's what I'm going by.

After not riding for nearly 30 years, I got back into it with a Road Star. Six months later I bought my Venture. The Venture is my everyday ride and I often get the notion of selling the RS as I don't take it out that often. But when I do thoughts of selling it disappear. For sure they are different rides and I enjoy them both. One is my Miata, the other my Cadillac.

The 9th works for me. Looking forward to seeing the group again.

Might Yamaha introduce the NEW Venture at the AIM Expo opening on Friday in Orlando? http://www.aimexpousa.com/yamaha-returns-to-aimexpo-as-first-oem-participant-of-2014/ And, no, I wouldn't buy another currently available Venture. I'm not sorry I bought mine, but with a 29" inseam and being 63 years old, something with a lower center of gravity would be nice.

Wish that was in my backyard.

Riding is an escape from the norm for me. I enjoy the challenges motorcycle riding presents, so much more invigorating than driving a car.

Nov 15, I'll be attempting a 1000 mile Iron Butt Ride with a group of friends from the 360 Riders Riders Group.

After many years of riding in the 70's-80's in the Hudson Valley of NY I moved to Florida and quit riding. almost 30 years later, I got back on the steel horse. I instantly took an advanced rider course and realized how much this self taught rider didn't know. Sure was embarrassed laying my Road Star down twice during the class. That was a well invested $100.

I belong to a group of MC enthusiasts called 360 Bikers Foundation. They hold a 1000 Mile Iron Butt ride fundraiser every year in November. This year it's scheduled for Nov 15th. The ride starts in West Palm Beach and more or less travels the perimeter of Florida. Naturally superslab all the way. Last year 16 bikes participated. I've already signed up for this years challenge. Anyone else? Here's links for more information: http://www.360bikers.com http://www.meetup.com/360Riders/events/203586452/

Awesome weekend ride. In a hurry I took the interstate up. An uneventful travel in great weather. Met up with Tom Saturday evening and visited the St. Augustine Elks Lodge for a burger and a few frosty ones. Met the group at 0800 Sunday for breakfast downtown. It was nice to meet Derek and Kristen and see Steve, Marilyn, Brake Pad, Mrs. Brake Pad,Karen, Barry, and Tom again. We split up after breakfast and I took the slow ride home with a few stops along the way parking the bike at home at 2300. 565 miles in great weather visiting friends, can't be beat.

I've spent the last hour trying to make this work but............ I need to be back home Saturday evening, that means 500+miles with 10-12 hours on the road to meet you for lunch. I'm going to pass. I was in Daytona last weekend and will be back there again for Biketoberfest. The wife likes to see me once and a while. Ride safe my friends.
