  1. My front brake lever has ceased to retract smoothly. Pull on it to activate the brake and it hits a hard spot. You can pull past it with pressure where it happens again. Pull past that, it again hits a hard spot. Full braking can be applied, but the lever doesn't retract smoothly. Fluid is clear and fairly new. I don't remember this happening instantly after the flush and bleeding. Any ideas?
  2. WOW, I didn't see that coming. No offense taken, I enjoy this fun house.
  3. I see no reason at all to spend any money replacing my pillow top seats. Did my Iron Butt Ride on it without any complaints. Although with my 29" inseam, I wouldn't mind getting a little closer to the ground.
  4. Just hit 64. Monday was National Ride to Work Day. I did take the bike out, but there was no way I was even going to attempt to find a job.
  5. If you're going down, that's the way to do it. Happy to hear it happened that way. Been there, done that.
  6. OUCH, that had to hurt.
  7. I was recently forced to replace my headlamp bulb. I installed a Silver Star and am pleased with the improved performance. Even happier I was able to install without splitting the fairing. Not as difficult as I envisioned after reading here it was near impossible. On the same day, I replaced a headlamp bulb on my Kia Soul that can't be done without removing the assembly. Most insist the bumper cover must be removed first, some say it can be done without. I will attest it can be done without removing the bumper cover. In both cases I'm thankful for being part of the appropriate forums, that are so helpful with tips and tricks. I thank you all, from you I have learned much.
  8. I use Turtle Wax on my windshield. Does a decent job of covering light scratches and lasts alot longer than Pledge.
  9. I find my RK's perform better after they're polished.
  10. Way to go Barry, congratulations. Welcome to the club.
  11. I bought and installed the OEM from Yamaha. I truly believe in OEM products. They cost more, but were made for exclusively. They're not a one size fits all thing. The kit is complete with everything you need. Follow the instructions, take your time, measure more than once. Place it where you made your marks, step back and view it from all angles. I was a bit trepidatious too. It all worked out fine. I did have to enlarge one hole ever so slightly.
  12. Welcome to Venture Riders, "you can check out, but you can never leave."
  13. I'm ready. I miss you guys. I am retired but do have commitments with the family and my activity with the Elks. Post when and where. I'll be there if I can.
  14. It's an adventure. Posting a 16 hour time, sounds like everything went smoothly. Congratulations.
  15. OUCH!!!! To go from "shouldn't take more than an hour" to double that is a poor estimate. What unforeseen complications caused the doubling of time? Different story when you don't know what you're getting into until you get into it. I hope there's some room for negotiation here.
  16. I routinely ride with my 10 year old grandson. Both his parents work and I'm often in charge of his after school care. Two or three days a week I pick him up at the school bus stop on the bike. Connor will often ask to be picked up tomorrow on the big motorcycle (RSV). He seems to prefer that over the Road Star. Over the past year, he has developed into the perfect passenger. He always holds on to me in some fashion. He knows not to get on or off unless told, sits perfectly still when necessary and realizes the burn potential. He is proud of his riding outfit; helmet, gloves, sun glasses, jeans and jacket. Usually our rides are short, Connor has been involved in a hippotherapy program for six years. I know his horseback riding has helped with his interaction on a motorcycle. Recently, Connor has earned two blue ribbons, two reds and a yellow in Special Olympic competitions. Connor has Down's Syndrome
  17. read all about it here: http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/
  18. The weather can make this chore much more difficult than need be. Good luck, ride safe and may the weather be in your favor.
  19. I bought my Roadie first, had it for 6 months or so, then bought the Venture. The Venture quickly became my ride of choice and I seldom ride the Roadie. Every time I think of selling it, I take it out for a ride and change my mind. Two different rides, I enjoy both.
  20. I received this message this morning. Dear George Zocchi: You are receiving this e-mail because of your application for a ride certification. This note is to let you know that your ride has been approved and although your ride documents may take a few more weeks to arrive, your membership has also been approved and entered into the Iron Butt Association's member database. Welcome to the Iron Butt Association!
  21. I'm still waiting for my certificate, it's been three months. I've been told it takes at least that long. I rode with a group and didn't keep any individual records. I was told one set of receipts, routing and word of the leader that the whole group finished is all that was needed. The certificate would be nice, but I don't feel I need to prove to anyone what I did.
  22. Congratulations!!!! I had faith. I couldn't imagine doing that in those conditions. I was chilly with overnight lows nearing 50 degrees. Welcome to the brotherhood.
  23. Hey Barry! I did a SS1000 last November, 1060 miles in 19 hours. It wasn't the challenge I thought it would be. Ride safely, stay hydrated. You are in great physical and mental shape with a well maintained motorcycle made for such a journey, with favorable weather you'll handle this easily. Ride safe my friend. I look forward to tales of your adventure.
  24. In my opinion, Central Florida, Lake County in particular, has the best there is in the state for motorcycling. Head into the National Forests and any road that circles the many lakes in that area.
  25. what he said!
