Grip & Highway Peg Question?
mbrood replied to af226's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
For footpegs, I've always used a wrap of thin rubber between the clamp and the bar... never had the problem of rotation and if I want them off they come off clean. (from ballons to inner tubes... what is handy is probably choice!) -
I use a simple one that tosses in the tool bag nicely... Harbor Freight 110 PSI Dial Tire Pressure Gauge SKU 90610 http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_6694.jpg

My mother cherished an antique, crouched black lepard TV light that she got from her mother's home when she died... the devastating flood in eastern Idaho (Teton Dam failure) of 1976 took basically everything away away from mom's home. A few years before her death I tracked down it's mate and sent it, anonomouos, but return addressed it with her mom's name. The wrapping barely hit the floor before it was proudly esconced on the TV amid a whole bucket of tears. Made my whole year! Never did leak the source, no reason, it was on the wrapper.

Mechanical gauges have the problem of wear, so an older gauge can still be "reliable" but needs to be referenced to a calibrated source. If you KNOW it's 8 pounds off you can add this in your reading but it will still degrade slowly over time, and for the cost, it's economical to simply replace it. The digitals use a pressure sensor similar to the boost sensor on our bikes and the dial type use a pressure membrane (bellows?) that can degrade over time but much, much slower than the straight mechanical.

There IS a Santa, there IS. My wife SAID SO. And I have the bills to prove it!

The troubleshooting manual points you immediately at the discharge valve if no noise is heard when the ignition is moved to ACC. I believe you should hear a momentary release of air.

turn signals intermittent
mbrood replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The two common elements to T/S and flasher inoperation that I would address are the flasher relay and the emergency flasher switch itself. Behind the right, fron turn signal lens is the emergency flasher switch connection... I would pop it open, check for corrosion or damage and clean as required... you can even check continuity for proper operation of each switch position. http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/flasher.jpg Mike Brood (mbrood) Oceanside, CA- 7 replies

Use a small paintbrush and some baby powder and "dust" the suspected area the nigt before. Then you can see if the night went well and your morning trial will showcase.

Without the driver's backrest, my wife was quite happy... With the backrest she felt more cramped, so I moved the trunk back about 1 1/2 inches and she's happy again... she says that now the armrests even feel more comfortable.
-
There's four mount points on the truck carrier and the trunk has plates and four acorns for each mount point along with the appropriate rubber vibration gaskets to keep the plastic from stress cracking. Now you need to unhook the vanity lighting wires fron the vanity mirror assembly and route them out of the trunk. Don't forget the backrest and rest adjustment lever will follow the trunk off. Then you unbolt the trunk carrier and find four pieces of flat iron to move the trunk carrier back your desired distance and remount the trunk... and yeah, there's about 2 1/2 inches of slack in the existing vanity lighting harness... not much but enough.

Sometimes I wake up grumpy. Other times I let her sleep in. -

I bought a #3 phillips bit and use an appropriate socket and ratchet...you have to fit the right tool or it's disaster waiting to happen... My previous owner must have only owned American gauge sockets and allens... where I found a buggered nut or bolt, I knew there was a problem there and needed attention... real poor way to find out but at least it got some new bolts out of the deal. You wouldn't believe what a pain the clutch slave is if you strip those allens in there ! -
The few Ventures I have worked on were all showing quite rich on the plugs... the needle shim was my first attack... seemed to cure it on two. That black means money (fuel) and performance wasted.

Hi low off switch for heated gear.

While toggle switches are often preferred, for this I would choose a rotary, no chance that it gets "bumped" to an unwanted mode... If 13 Amps will cover ya, here's one... Ethanol Fuel issues!!

Just click on your state... http://pure-gas.org/ -
I don't believe the bowls get 'pressurized' by the pump, when the bowl float raises and shuts off the flow the pump stops. When running you have fuel flow, vibration and probably upright to get the leak?

Squidley ( and those that 'could' cap the tubes with a 1" extra spacer), I have to hand it to ya for even attempting the thought. I don't have enough sand in my pockets! It was an outright tussle to get the cap down on the 1/2" but then it leaned so far over on the sidestand that I had to 'jerk it' to get her upright when seated... very uncomfortable feelng. But them at 120 pounds I doubt I need THAT much preload anyway and she rides real nice without one.

I think you want to achieve this final assembly length... but you REALLY don't want the spring riding on the cap. (progressive on the top, stock at the bottom) http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/springs3.jpg

bled the clutch
mbrood replied to pmelah's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Altrhoug the clutch pumps a finite amount of reservoir fluid into the line to activate the clutch, the fluid doesn't go very far, so I would think any contamination was coming from inside the piston area or the immediate hose off the reservoir. Have you pulled the guts of the master and insured a healthy condition? You could also pull the hose there, at both ends, run a length of line down it and tie a small cloth in the middle to act as a scrubber for the inner walls. (compressed air wil blow the line through or tie one end to a small nail and let gravity do the job.)
