Need Rubber for sparkplug
Huggy replied to Huggy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The plug wires look OK the rubber has been wet and basically rotted due to moisture on one plug. I have question regarding diaphragm replacement. Besides making sure that the tab on the new diaphragm is in the same location as the old one was is there any other things I need to be aware of? I read something about marking the location of a hole where is this located? Is it the one at the bottom of the slide at the side of the slide? -
I need the rubber pieces that go on the ends of the spark plug caps. Does anyone know where I can get these? The ones I have are crumbling badly. Thanks

Huggy replied to Huggy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK I got guys. I'll be careful, no vice for sure and make sure I get things all lined up. I was quite confused as it was done one way on this forum and totally different if you fallowed SCI's diagrams. Confused the H*LL out of me. Rest of my carb gaskets are at the post office so now I can get to work on the carbs! -
SCI Diaphragm Replacement
Huggy replied to Huggy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the link. I did a search and I didn't see this one. I didn't get any new plastic rings with my diaphragms. This this is the SCI installation from their web site. It won't work with my new SCI Diaphragms. I have emailed them. -
I got the SCI Replacement Diaphragms and I am at a total loss on how to replace my old diaphragms. Can anyone give a step by step procedure on how to install the SCI diaphragms. Thanks.

I'm using it Marcarl. Just wondering about getting the heave oily grime off the carb before I do the disassembly and clean. Any way I sprayed them with carb cleaner and then disassembled and used the Citrosolve. Then cleared all the passages and jets sprayed with carb cleaner and blew out with air. Question for you Marcarl, where do you buy the gaskets? Is there someone who sells them at a better price than the dealers?

Now I would like to know what model number is the carb on the 1300. I'll need to know when I go see my local independent motorcycle parts guy. Thanks I'll try the Pinesol trick as we have a whole bunch. Well at least the wife does. Thanks guys.

OK I'm about to start cleaning the carbs. I have disassembled and taken pics of carbs so I can put them back together. I have cleaned carbs before, Hitachi, What do I need to know about cleaning these carbs. Once I have stripped the carb of all the parts can I soak the carb bodies in degreaser? Are there gaskets available for the internal parts that require them available? If it makes a difference there from a 1986 Venture Royale. Any input regarding cleaning these carbs would be appreciated. Oh yes the piston valves in the carbs are all gummed up what is the best way to clean them and the bore? Thanks.

Met Marcarl and his better half to today. Went up to his place to pick up CS for the big engine clean up. Took rest of panels off the bike panels are showing there age but they are repairable. The only real issue is the right and left fairing pockets. The are shot, too brittle to use . So I will have to find new ones when I get to that stage of my reassembly. -

Not from air box from carb. I'm free anytime, retired, so tell what's convenient for you. OK you are near the Airport. Also I finally got the gas cap off the tank . I poured a liter of Evaporust that I got from Canadian Tire, I swear by the stuff, in to the tank turned it upside down so the Evaporust ran down to the cap let sit for 2 days now it turned off. Disassembled gas cap cleaned it out lubed everything with Lithium grease and reassembled works great. So now for the cleaning of the tank and the carbs!!!!!! . -

Marcarl I can pick it up on Thursday if you can give me a time and your location. I have the carbs off. Will cleaning the bodies of the carbs with degreaser hurt anything. I'll using carb cleaner once I start taking them apart. I found a loose rubber hose sticking out from under the carbs. When I pulled the carbs I discovered that it was a drain hose for the drain plug can this be replaced or repaired. The plastic tip that the hose goes onto is broke off in the hose. Sorry I didn't get back to you last night Marcarl we lost our hydro for a while. -

If you can get me some great just let me know when you have it and I'll come get it. Also what is the best way to clean sludge and rust out of a gas tank? I don't think I need to reline it just a good cleaning. Don't want to break the bank! Yet!! -

Haven't taken it off yet want to find replacement first. Might buy a replacement tank. There was a lot of old gas and crude in the tank. the sending unit still looks good. One of the guys had taken his to a lock smith and the guy drilled out the center of the lock on the cap. I'd want to make sure I had a back up cap for sure before I did that. -

OK I got the gas tank out, looked through the beat up service manual that came with the bike. It had to come out anyway. Need to drain old gas and clean out the sludge. Will need to replace fuel hoses, gas filter and either rebuild or replace petcock. I wonder how much beer I'm going to need to do this job? Any way not to much rust on the bike a little on the frame that I had to swing up to remove the gas tank. And a little on the removable muffler tips. Other wise its just nasty from sitting. Quick question. What would be the best product for cleaning up the oxidization on the engine? I'm positive the reason I can not get the gas cap off is that its a replacement cap. Are they hard to find? Thanks for your help. -

Well rust in the tank is no big deal to cure. But I'm thinking that my problem with the fuel cap may be has a separate key. It sure acts like the key I have is the wrong key and I'm wondering if the PO had replaced the fuel cap at some point. Going to have the see if the PO brother has another key somewhere. Cant talk to actual PO he's deceased. When he died everything they could find was paced up. I need to know how do you remove the gas tank? I want to clean the carbs. -

What about Kriol? I've been giving it a squirt of it a few times today. I do have some silicone spray here also. The tank is very solid on the outside so it may not be all bad news. -

Thanks for the reply guys well the bike is here no missing parts but some where loose. The PO was thinking of doing a rebuild for his son to use it. They stated to take off the luggage and plastic but that's as far as they went. A few thing are stiff and the throttle is seized so that will have to be replaced. The only problem I'm having is getting the gas cap off the tank. The key turns about 1/8 of a turn and that's it. the cap moves a little but does not release any ideas? A service manual came with the bike. Its badly beat up but still useable. Also some pictures on photo bucket; http://s865.photobucket.com/user/Ground-Hugger/library/Bike?sort=3&page=1
