The Lake Erie portion of that trail has been one of the local rides that I never seem to get done. In the latest issue of Roadrunner, there is an article about the ride around Lake Erie, the current issue talks about the US side of the ride from Detroit to Buffalo, and the next issue has the Canadian part of the ride. Hi Folks, I am looking at maybe purchasing a 1978 Yamaha XS 750 as a project for the winter, I don't have any previous experience with this model. I have had a Honda 750k and a Suzuki GS750 in my younger years as well as a RD 350, but none of my former riding pals ever had one of the XS 750's so I can't even go on stuff that I remember (which at times is not the best lol). I am wondering if anybody has had any experience with these bikes from what I have read on line they are a decent machine, I am looking at just bringing it back to a reliable ride for myself and maybe down the road looking at a mild cafe setup. This one only has as per the add about 32000km on it and other then torn seat and being dirty looks pretty good, and the asking price is workable. I am hoping to go and take a look at it in the next few days. Any info would be appreciated. Now time to spend a nice September Saturday the way it is meant to be..........going for a ride on the Venture.

Didn't make it to this one, I was really looking forward to it, oh well family stuff had to take precedence today, oh ya and some work too. Mike

Congrats.... we are coming up to 28 years at the end of the month. Still learning as we go. And yes it is true as you get older the time does just fly by. Enjoy your day.

That looks good, nice job. Mike.

Always up for a ride, have done quite a bit of exploring in the WNY area this summer, even better the boss likes to do the trips on the bike. That means not much shopping except for the essentials.

We got a 40oz or 1 litre, it was 20.99, have also seen it in 750ml size and 1.75l size. The recipe we used called for 1 litre so just to keep it dumby proof we bought the 40oz size. The hassle for us Canucks, is that we have to be out of Canada for 48 hours to bring back 40oz of liquor. Or you just pay the duty when you bring it back on a day trip. I know for 12 beer with groceries on day trip you dont usually get much of a hassle crossing the border. It seems liquor can be a different story. Mike.

I used EverClear that we bought in Buffalo I think it was 190 proof, it said grain alcohol on the label. The batch tastes good.
-
that means more weekends in Buffalo.
-
I was told by a couple of LCBO stores that they don't carry it any longer, one Hamilton store said they have some grain alcohol, but he couldn't sell it with out a prescription as it was for medical purposes...........I think he just didn't want to have to walk to the back to get it. Prescription at the LCBO....yea right.

We have just finished our first batch as well, I know your supposed to let it sit for a couple weeks, but it already tastes so good. 9 litres ha it will not last, guess we have to make another weekend trip to Buffalo to get some Everclear, unless anyone from Ontario knows where to get Alcool from, as it is no where to be found around us in Hamilton. Mike.

Sleepy, If it is an older one, just the standard, check for mold smell, look for dark patches in corners, check the seams, check the screens. If possible check the poles to make sure they are all in fairly good shape. If it is a pop up and the seller has it already set up, ask them to take it down for you, make it seem like you want to know what is involved with putting it up (which of course you do). What you are looking for is how smoothly it goes down (all corners should come down evenly) and then how smoothly it goes up (again all corners should go up evenly). This little exercise will give you a fairly good indication of what shape the lift system is in. Of course if there is a fridge or stove...do they work, any electrical outlets in it....do they work.....do all the trailer lights work. Good luck. Just my 2 cents. Mike.

Thanks for the input everyone. Mike.

Wondering if I could jump in with a question and maybe get some of your guidance. I have Avon Venoms on my 02 right now, the front is ok but the back is looking like it may be time to replace shortly, I am considering staying with the Venoms as alot of my riding is two up. The Venoms I have now have whitewalls and I really like the look of them, but I can't seem to find any Venoms to fit the scoot with white walls. Can I mix different brands front and rear? With my bike being lowered at the back it is hard to see the whitewalls on the rear tire and I am thinking it may just be better to stay with the Venom and learn to live with the black wall. The question is a bit trivial but am just wondering. Mike.

Very sad, that can be a crazy intersection at times.

That Salesman only saw the dollar signs, your neighbour is crazy to be riding something like that as a first bike. I can't believe someone would let a new rider actually buy that kind of a bike. Unbelievable.

I too have to apologize for not introducing myself at the WNY Regional, we were only there for a few hours but it would have been great to meet. Route 6 is another that we plan on doing in the future and funny you should say Route 20 back from Erie, the original plan was to take it back into Buffalo. We will take you up on the offer to ride in your neck of the woods, the WNY Regional was our 2nd trip to that area and it is a great one for a days ride. Mike

Thanks for sharing those great pictures

Ditto, just a great way to do everything everyday. It doesn't cost you anything to help someone or lend a hand.

Since we got the new to us 02 RSV, Tammie and I have ventured a bit more on the bike then we did last year when we rediscovered riding after being away from it for far too long. We just had our second week of vacation with no real plans on what to do before they started. So we decided to go for a ride and wing it, but we did come up with a couple of spots to end each day at so we pre booked rooms for the night (we have done the camping thing for years, so for this little journey it was going to be hotels). Started out leaving our place in Hamilton Ont on Tuesday night and crossed in NFalls NY for the night. The next day we rode into Pa along the I90 and stopped at the Welcome Centre where we consulted with the gentleman that was working at the time and told him where we were going and asked him if there was a more scenic route to get there. We stayed on the I90 until Erie then turned off at exit 24 and took route 19 south. For those of you more experienced then us in the motorcycle touring your probably rolling your eyes at the couple of Canadian rookies. Route 19 was a great road to ride, I prefer to ride around 40 to 50mph I guess that is why I am always looking for secondary roads to travel, but we went through a few towns until we got to Mercer, where we turned right onto Route 62 for the ride to the Original Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon. Good day to be there as it was bike night, great dinner then to the Hotel. The next day we went across I 80 into Ohio then connected to I 76 until we got to route 534 turned north on 534 and rode into Geneva got off the bike and wandered around for a bit, grabbed some lunch then headed east on route 20 back towards Erie (in hind sight, we should have continued to Geneva on the Lake and taken Route 531 along Lake Erie). The next morning it was back home, for that we took the I90 still not a bad ride for a couple of days and we found a couple of great roads to ride (both 19 and 534 must be spectacular in the fall) and a couple of others to come back and try the next time. The best part was that at most we were only a few hours from home base back here in the Hammer. Yup we are still newbies but it was fun to just explore and ride. Mike

Beautiful bikes, what a great way to break in the new scoot with that ride bringing it home. Mike.
