  1. Hey Puc, Great find on the shovel, love those old HDs, my brother has an 83 FXR that he picked up for a song (and he can't carry a note either). Love my Venture but also have a soft spot for the old shovels and sporty's they are so basic and simple. Cool find. Mike
  2. I was in the same boat a couple of years ago but with my daughter as she wanted to ride. We made her take the Motorcycle training course, not sure what insurance rates are like in the US but up here in Canada they are silly for all ages even worse for people under 21, for that reason we started her on a 250 Marauder, yes way too small for someone over 6 feet, but a real good bike to get your feet wet on. I would go along with a few others advocating a bike with an upright riding position especially for someone who is taller, and the older bikes are great bikes to start on, as mentioned they are pretty reasonable to buy, great way to learn about taking care of a bike, and generally a bit easier on the insurance. Over this past winter, our daughter has picked up a 750 Virago which for her is going to be almost perfect as a second bike. My 2 cents Mike
  3. I will let you guys do the picking, I will have to try doing what you said Kevin to remove the badges. I need my back up here in case I mess up on the computer. I am basically a cut n paste email guy.
  4. that guy has some skill, very cool.
  5. ok Gotcha. Kevin how did you take the badges of the picture of the CB1300P, just curious. Thanks,
  6. not bad for a newbie.
  7. Looks great, really like the heel rests, I have never seen them before. Rear light looks like it was made for your bike nice fit. Mike
  8. 1924 Henderson Excelsior
  9. You guys are in a completely different league then I am, I didn't have a clue what that bike was.
  10. so what are you saying there sausage fingers??? And plus half the fun is getting to hear Kevins witty banter
  11. Oooops trying to break the rules again......better go back to the car and wait. Sorry got caught up in you guys fun, the thread got me thinking of some of the bikes my dad owned, the Sunbeam was one of them
  12. this is probably too easy but any way http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3074/2547479317_bf55d74156.jpg?v=0
  13. Steve, Yes the Virago would be a 920 not a 950, for what its worth I just picked up an 85 750 Virago for $1200 this one is pretty well spotless service records kept up and doesnt look abused at all. The main issue with the early Viragos was the starter clutch. When looking at it and listening to it use the same judgement we use when looking at an old Venture (bikes older then 30 years old are just that, they are old and if it doesn't seem right you walk away. They are like the 1st gens there were issues but like anything else there are good ones and there are bad ones, if your gut says it is a bad one, leave it. Just my 2 cents. Mike
  14. It hasn't been a nice one by us here in Hamilton. Enough already.
  15. What more eating and more laughs........ sounds like we should be there too. maybe the snow will be all gone by then and we can all riding and the sun is out....... and maybe pigs will be flying by then too. Mike.
  16. I know what you mean, we lite up the grill on Friday night, did some nice pork butt steaks on it, grill some potatoes, onions and carrots to go along with it. Did it again on Sunday night, chicken this time. Both meals tasted so good, we usually grill all year round but it has been just too cold. Said to heck with it and lets get it done. even nicer the cook had a glass of Apple pie while cooking. Perfect. Mike.
  17. I am considering one of the Nolan Helmets myself. From the info on Revzilla it looks like they are a great idea, I currently wear an AGV modular helmet that I like, but just the idea of having the option of removing the chin bar intrigues me, it saves bringing my bell shorty with me and frees up room in one of the bags on trips. I have not seen that helmet or even the N43 which is the old model in a shop around where we are, my prefernce to try on a helmet before buying rather then ordering online. Mike.
  18. Hey Puc, We are all going through it now, I spent a couple hours this morning looking at bike reviews on youtube. Have an itch to go and check out some bike showrooms too. We did however get our second bike paid for and transferred into our name today, but it will be our daughter who will be on it most of the time. Doesn't matter where I am going I just love riding my RSV, but I know I will grab the Virago and go for a ride every now and then. When it is test ride season here I do want to try out the Victory Cross Country, always liked that bike. Come on spring....
  19. There is always room for a Frank Zappa reference.
  20. PS3......what a great idea.....video games and a full glass of Apple Pie (until its gone, then some Wild Turkey).....don't worry no driving tonight just on the PS3
  21. The mark in the picture at about 3 o'clock is an emblem on the tire.
  22. Agree with the above comment, I had Venoms on my 02 and the rear got to wear your tire in the picture was at, it was only a month or so later that I had to replace it.
  23. Good one.
