  1. Good luck, I definitely would try a different DMV branch. if you need better pics, I'll get my 35mm out and give you whatever you need. Wish it would come off, I have NO need for it here in Indiana.
  2. I am not expert obviously, but that one on top right looks like it's leaking where the fins meeting the tank. In my car experience, this usually is caused by corrosion. Not saying it can't be fixed, but given your adventure with your Venture, and considering it's all tore down anyway, and not like a major additional expense, and never in my life have I seen a radiator self fix itself, I would buy the cleanest looking one off fleabay. Then a light coat of high temp black paint, since your going to polish her up anyway. You might ask ebay seller if he guarantees that it wont leak.
  3. Have you determined where the pinhole is? Is it the tank, middle of cooling fins, where the fins meet tank, fill neck, ? Etc Etc This will play into whether it's easily repairable or not, lol
  4. My 83 has 35k miles, I've owned it since 2012. I have never changed or even looked at the coolant. Suppose I should at least do a drain and refill in the spring.
  5. Only one way to find out, take it past a radiator repair shop. I'd do that before I took it out. As above, in general the answer is yes. They might be able to do it on the bike. You might even try some J-B Weld radiator glue, if it's a small pinhole, it might work. Fleabay has a few used radiators for under $50. What I would NOT do is put some type of radiator stop leak in it. That stuff gums up everything. It just depends if the pinhole is from a rock, or because of rot.
  6. Doing a little more digging, seems Cali started getting nasty in 84, maybe that's why my 83 has it and your 84 does not. Many Many people have same complaints. Most find going to a different DMV the solution, oh ya, be nice to the people, at least until you get your tags.
  7. I would be delighted to give it to you. It is a super thin rubbery type sticker, 35 years old, that has been tucked towards the engine it's whole life. Brittle is an understatement. I took the heat gun to it, only made it more prone to tear, and it got my plastic / paint hotter than I want to do again. Sorry. Maybe someone with a parts bike could sell / rent / give you their whole side plastic. Another idea, plenty of online or even, create your own sticker ideas. Who's to know that a particular sticker is what Yama supplied. Also, reading other peoples issues on Google, much of the time they don't ask, you just happened upon a time they did. Maybe consider a different DMV branch, play your dumb card. Nothing to lose.
  8. I have this sticker under my left plastic. It will not peel off or I'd send it to you
  9. I have a 2005 Yukon XLT, pulled 3000# ski boat for years, currently pull 21' Travel Trailer, Loaded 6500#. My specs say mine will pull 8200#. I have a WDH as well. I average 18 hwy, drops to 11 pulling TT. I would not pull much more than I have. I swear those specs are for flat land travel. Don't believe everything a Dealer says, do your research on forums like this. Nothing better than real life experiences. I'm considering an upgrade to a possible 250 / 2500 diesel. I have researched, and resale value is interesting. Although the GMC Yukon XL in general has more bling than the Suburban, the Suburban has higher resale value down the road. You might take resale value along with cost of ownership into consideration with your choice. But most important of all: Buy what makes you happy Spence
  10. No Radiator Cool bike though.
  11. Here are a couple links to the service manuals. Download them onto your PC for future use http://bergall.org/temp/venture/pdf/ This one you need to type in the letters you see http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm Good luck, I HATE wiring, but looks like you are on it
  12. Mine use to act squirly at high speed, I dropped front forks to maybe 5 psi, seemed to tighten everything up nicely. I have found my 83 to be VERY temperamental with fork, shock, and tire pressures. I moved my bars up like you plan (I'm a tall guy), and love the feel. Might not be as relaxed and causes a little discomfort on longer rides in the arms . I tend to ride and use mine as a sport bike. I leave the bags off, and snap on trunk if I need. Keep on pluggin, you'll get there.
  13. That's Great We made blanket forts. Blankets and clothespins
  14. Ya, you got grounds to be pissed. BUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, Usually going in swinging isn't the best option at first. Always plenty of time for that. Give them a chance to fix their mistakes. Be thankful it's January and you have time. Easier said than done I know. Good Luck, I was getting excited that you were soooo close to having all good.
  15. I also am in a RV forum, and lots of people have issues with EcoBoost over heating while pulling Travel Trailers. They are well within spec's too. I would guess for everyday light construction use, they would be fine. Don't think I'd want one for a workhorse though.
  16. Working Great again, it was really slow here. Thanks My next PC will definitely be SSD
  17. Thanks everyone. I knew better than to ask for Tire quality advise Seems the matching sets are Avon Cobra, Shinko 230 and Shinko 777. I have researched them on Revzilla and JP Cycles, and others. A couple above say good things about Shinko 230, and it has good reviews with other riders of large bikes, I like the 230s Load Range, and to boot, I'm a big boy. So, I think the Shinko 230 is my direction.
  18. Folks, I have a new dilemma. I'm on a mission to replace the tires on my 83, and WOW, what little options we have anymore. I need Front 120.90.18 and Rear 140.90.16. I have been running the OEM Bridgestone Spitfire S11 for past 5 years, mostly for the retro look and RWL. Bridgestone no longer makes our size in that tire. I've looked on many websites, and 2 email replies as well. When browsing for replacements, putting tire sizes in, very little options, and very very little options of the same tire in both Front and Rear. Question: Has anyone purchased tires for their 1st gen lately? What did you find or settle for? Thanks in advance Paul
  19. My 2 cents, you get what you pay for. I also am a Dewalt fan, heck Craftsman is decent too. I discourage Harbor Freight. I bought a $29 electric drill to simply keep on Travel Trailer to raise and lower stabilizer jacks, and it doesn't have enough power to do that, and they operate pretty smooth. I would check and make sure you can get metric bits that fit whatever you buy.
  20. If you figure out the headlight, let me know. I get warning light 50% of the time on low, switch to high and it goes off. Since I ride mostly during day, I just leave it on high. Glad you'll be riding again...
  21. At least he knows a good mechanic
  22. I've had this issue with my 83. It is indeed your foot brake linked to rear brake and front left. For me, the air got trapped in a proportioning valve right under fairing, mounted to fork. I loosened line going to front left brake at that valve, and then bled that point as normal, then the front left again as normal. That proportioning valve is the high point, and air rest there. Other smarter ones will chime in with the more technical terms. Also, that brake reservoir for rear and front left is a separate one, right side of bike, under the plastic. Here is another thread that will explain http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?132600-83-Venture-back-brake-issue&highlight=brake+bleed PS: Welcome to the Forum. $12 membership will get you full access to easy searches, and access and downloads to the service manuals. Hands down worth every penny.
  23. Glad to see you back Puc, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
