  1. Considering adding a bike to my stable (in addition to my 83) Having a hard time finding a big bike to fit me, I'm 6'3" 290# guy. I want water cooled, and I am not a fan of feet forward controls. I like my 83, but rather not take out of state on longer rides, has way too much that needs updates. DO you have any opinions of the BMW's? I spy a really nice 05 online. Thanks
  2. So I finished up with the head bearings today and have a question. I have always had a pretty tight stearing, pretty flat. (old bearings like dried paste with indents in them) I've always had bad stearing bushings for the past 5 years I've owned it. This is my first bike in 30 years, so I'm not sure how it should feel. Anyways, after done, I took for a test ride, seems to handle really loose, like if I go 50 mph, and wiggle handle bars, I feel I get get into a wobble fairly easily. Is there some adjustments I should consider. I feel pretty good about the torque on the head bearings, not too tight, no play or looseness. I do run the front forks with 0 psi. Is this just going to get some getting used to for me with new head bearings? Thanks Edit: Took it for a 50 mile ride today. Rode a bit different, by the end, I am in love with it. Rides the best it ever has. Cranked it up to triple digits, smooth as silk. Carves corners in the hills like never before. Man I wish I would have done this years ago.
  3. Not cool. Thank God they were wearing gear.
  4. I believe the part number you need is 1FK-16381-11-00. Google it, check the pictures, many places including Amazon. I replaced mine on my 83 a few years back. Getting air out is certainly a task. I 2X have tied the clutch back, left sit overnight and it was air free. Others have technically debunked that, saying that is not possible. You have nothing to lose.
  5. What did I do. Well, I'm almost finished replacing the steering head bushings. OMG, what a pain in the rear. Way over my typical ability. Bottom Race was a real trick. Bought a punch set, boy sharp hardened punches really came in handy. I have triple tree back in, finally, all good, just need to reassemble.
  6. So, I have an 83', and it has developed a seeping, to now slow drip coolant while cooling down. Sometimes a 4" circle on garage floor, so not ridiculous. It's seems to be coming from the thermostat housing 'o' ring. I found some pretty detailed advise in the First Gen Tech talk, and know I should replace cover (possible warped), o rings etc. BUT, it still seems to be a PITA, lots has to come off, and I had some great success with some stop leak in my Yukon on some heater hose seals and was wondering if anyone has run stop leak through their Motorcycle ?
  7. Safe travels, sounds like a good time.
  8. You could also get a toy hauler travel trailer and put your Bike in there. Trailer up front, fold down back door to ride bike into. I'm on a RV forum as well, and people try all sorts of ways to have a trailer and put a bike in the bed. These are big heavy bikes with 50 million things to go wrong. Seems most of them end up getting a toy hauler.
  9. La-z-boy, but I suggest you take him with. We would rather get a chair that fits right and we like, than accept a chair so our kid doesn't feel bad. Just sayin, happy birthday to pops as well
  10. That would be better if it were a Jack Daniels trailer, or any mixer with Coke to your liking.
  11. Yes I wave while riding, and I wave while boating as well. Just feel it's a special interest I share with some.
  12. So very sad for this tragedy and your loss. My prayers are with you and your family, she sounds like a great kid we lost. Be proud of getting her to this point of her life, sounds like you did great as parents. Pray to the Lord for help and guidance, I'm sure he has a plan.
  13. You might have some luck finding a plug with a site glass, figure out what thread they tapped, Google around Here's something https://lenzinc.com/products/hydraulic-tank-accessories/hydraulic-threaded-oil-sight-windows-sight-domes-sight-glasses
  14. Looks Great. I'm still with my YukonXL, looking at new Expeditions, pricy. Your truck doesn't look like it's squatting much. I bet you love the 6.2L. Have a Great trip! We're dipping into low 60s at night, I'll have plenty of firewood.
  15. Looks Great. I've been riding a lot this summer, now it's turning to camping season. Headed out for long weekend.
  16. After doing what you have done, I also run an app on the computer called 'Disk Cleanup'. Deletes many old garbage files, tons of old crap not needed, that your computer still filters through on many commands. Then I run a program called 'defrag', and that reorganizes the files into the right file folders, if you will. I do this monthly, along with my backup to a separate hard drive. Seems to really keep my stuff running well.
  17. FlyinFool, Hope all is well. I was wondering if you ever published the write up on how to replace steering bearings. I have spent hours looking for it, and reading up. I have an indent, and I am as you were, always has been there and need to replace the races and bearings, and just an average dyi. Before I ask the Forum, I find lots of this and that information, but no step by step instruction.
  18. Thanks, concerns me even more, I have no welder... I wonder if anyone else has suggestions or a trick for the top one?
  19. Nice bike for the money. I always ask, how bad is the whine. They always respond, what whine. I love my 83, but she is showing her age, and now I need to do steering bearings, ugg. Just not sure about this feet forward business.
  20. I'm on Windows 10. If I go to top right, click settings, than look on the left side, there is a link to change email or password.
  21. That boy needs to have the flying right foot on the rear brake to put the front end down. Probably too late . I have never tried a wheelie on my 83, too much to go wrong, especially that problematic frame issue. My earlier days on a Honda 400 Enduro, great times, I'm thankful to be alive.
  22. That's great news, I plan to do mine as well. I'm not super DIY guy, but have found a few videos on the web and instruction on this website. Did you just take front tire off, drop forks and have at it? Where the races difficult to pound out?
  23. Looks really good. Pull a Richard Rawlings. Take cash. Offer $1000, he responds and says he really needs $2000, say, let's split it, I have cash, and be silent. You have nothing to lose, you can always up your offer, but never the other way. Remind him it's getting to the end of the riding season, that itself might help. Good Luck.
  24. I have found the Magic Erasers, those white kitchen thingys, work great on my Leather truck interior.
  25. Prayers up Freebird. Hopefully they get this sorted out easily. My dad had some issues similar to as you describe, he was darn near dehydrated, wasn't drinking enough water. I'm sure it will be a small imbalance of something that is easily corrected.
