The plug color is consistant with a lean mix and that could be a vacuum leak. I would change plugs for 1 that plug shields spark. I would recommend a std style. However you can put it in and start bike. Turn idle mix screw on #2 all the way in and see if idle circuit is operating. Engine should lug down. Open screw until rpms peak and a 1/4 to 1/2 turn farther or until rpms just start to come down. I see my std ngk,s shield mix by being a nice color everywhere but behind gnd electrode, is white. Good luck

Welcome 10spd; I know what you mean. Those 88,s like to strech their legs. When riding mine it feels like it wants to eat highways for breakfast.

Those 88,s just seem like they want to get out on highway and stretch their legs. When I ride mine it seems as though it wants to eat highways for breakfast. Welcome to VR.

Well after riding the bike, I found that my cleaning helped but not much. Now I can get the 1st gear indicator and neutral to come on when warmed up by moving shifter. If I push down on shifter while in 1st the indicator lites up. In neutral if I lift up on shifter the neutral lite luminates. I can't get 2nd to work at all when engine is up to temp. Pin and spring? Do you think case is growing more than pin spring can accomadate(worn out)? Seems if it were anything else it wouldn't always work cold.

A very easy fix is to screw a sheet metal screw into tab where original stud was, cut to correct length to bottom on interior of panel(actually inside of panel skin), skim over with plastic goo made from abs and mek. done and works great. I also spread alittle inside of block that made up original stud to give more support. Very strong

When you say you have used castrol, which one? GTX has friction modifiers and the 20w50 isnt cj approved. If it says it has triguard,or trishield it same as mileage extender or for high mileage engines(friction reducers). I didnt see any thing on 20w50gtx(car oil) but it isnt cj approved and has oil from mideast even thou it is bp, says on bottle. I used rotella t until they added the friction mods couple yrs ago. Now using 15w40 delvac fleet oil but looking for something else.

Just wondering, how many 1st gen owners have more than one? You do know that you keep the resale prices artificially high for those of us wanting to get our second or third. I will start off by saying one 88, one 87parts bike, one 92 engine and frame.

Trying to find a gear position switch. None in parts fische listed. Not even as discontinued. My bike gives a good indication cold but once warmed up I loose all indications of 1st gear, neutral, and 2nd gear while remaining gears function properly. thought it would be worn switch or pin in switch. Any help?

Avatar picture/awards ???? How does this take place ?
sandman replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Watering Hole
This is prolly to Freebird; or any that can help. Is it possible to be nominated for a award that a member already has? A couple of members have gone out of their way in helping me and I,m starting to feel like a nag. They already have the award but one more wouldnt hurt. thanks -
Got the new clutch spring in and went for test ride(over to friends house). Had coffee and we decided to go to town to get my proof of insurance. I lost my saddlebag cvr and my proof was lost. On way Friend jump on it as we rounded a corner. I didnt think he would attempt to go by me. He did and it caught me off guard. I was in third in bottom of rpms. Rolled it on as he went by, only to get past by a bike length at wot. Left the machine in 3rd and its getting its legs, as I rolled past him on rite side I wave a sarcastic by by while he is going thru gears and running out of rpms. I grabbed 4th and by then he was to far behind to measure. I know its just a harley, but its still fun. The machine 1, softtail custom with 94hp dynod-----zero. Glad he didnt do it yesterday

Thoughts and Prayers
sandman replied to Rick Haywood's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Prayers for him, family friends and perhaps anyone else involved in accident. Tramatic for others at sceen and caregivers. I note. A neighbor hit a dog and caused a head trama swelling and everything. No brain activity for ten days. Family met to make hard decision. Wife said unplug him. Family fought it. Medical staff reccommended it. However the family won out kept him hooked up. Been several years now that he has rode and enjoyed life after making a full recovery just days after that meeting he woke up. See him at sturgis camps by pond. Prayers do work brother. ps he,s divorced -
Man someone needs to talk to the guy that slammed the bike from rear. WOW. Good Pic of idiot that slammed biker. Someone will give him a adjustment! I was riding at a relaxed pace around lake very congested with lots of kids and narrow road with buildings built rite in road rite away. A jerk passes me using most of my lane on a double yellow line with a full size 4x4 pickup. Narrowly missing me. Road Rage is a very easy disease to get when idiots are so abundant.

Man I pulled a good one. jumped on scooter to run over friends. when I got there I was missing a left saddlebag cvr. Looked both sides of road real slow. Nothing. Either it made it into the brush or someone picked it up. I guess I wont make that mistake again. I hope. Also when I have wife on it gets way to heavy to hold up. I tipped us over at a stop sign when we first got it. Almost did it again yesterday. She made it off and helped me get it uprite. Might be too much for me. she sets quite high. Guess I will try doing exercises to get into first gen shape.

Does any one know if first and second gen pick up coils are interchangeable? It would be for a 90 or newer first gen. single pick up like second gen I think. Or where to get them. thanks
