  1. I linked to the HD model, you linked to the Goldwing model. I've only owned this bike for 4 months and haven't purchased a headset for it yet...What model do our intercom pins align with?
  2. Plug & Play http://www.spoiledbiker.com/product3326.html Or one ment for the Harmon Kardon radio in the HD, might require some modification to work in a Venture. http://www.hdbomm.com/ Owned and still repair a few HD's...I remembered seeing these a few years back.
  3. Overlooked that in the SM10 details. Thanks for the info. Edit: No Audio output on the SM10. DUH!
  4. Not necessarily correct. You can use a stereo 3.5mm plug and have transmit on one leg and receive on other leg of the plug with DIGITAL AUDIO. This is how most headphones included with iPhone/Android have the mic built into the cord.
  5. I Modified my G4 and removed the hard-wired speakers and installed a 2.5mm jack. I would use standard ear bud headphones when riding with my 1/2 helmet. There were instruction on the ADV forum, and someone who would perform the mod for you.
  6. Very close! Blaupunkt is a German electronics and audio manufacturer, they use to be bigger in the US as part of the Bosch group but have since split and now are mainly in the EU. As for the device, we were able to mish-mash what was left of the stock GPS software with bits and pieces of other software from other markets. Basically taking a Working Non-English software and replace it with the English bits & pieces. The GPS still works great, and we found a freeware updated map, but it has a serious identity crisis with Navi-Blue on the front, Caliber splash screen, and Blaupunkt on all the controls.
  7. I've never shied away from tinkering...but the one project me and my buddy walked away from scratching our heads was a WinCE based NaviBlue GPS. Still not sure what we did but it now thinks it's a Blaupunkt
  8. Sounds interesting...and only 4 hours away.
  9. I had/have the same problem with my '99 RSV. So far I've replaced a worn out rear tire and it got slightly better. Then pulled the swing arm and greased and torqued the bearings, again slightly better. Next step is new stearing head bearings as I bought the bike with 50k miles and they were loose. I did tighten the steering head but still have some "notchy" spots.
  10. I've torched and I've cut the locking hitch pins out before. When cutting go slow and use plenty of cutting oil.
  11. Only made it up to Prairie Du Chien last year, if I get a chance to go up that way this year I'll be sure to stop in.
  12. One of the few ways you MIGHT be able to get it to work: Garmin Zumo connected to the bike with a Buddy Rich cable Phone & Scala headset bluetooth paired to the GPS This is just "armchair quarterbacking" as I no longer have a scala headset and use a Nuvi 765t GPS that did not pair with my headsets nor allow duplex (2 bluetooth) connections.
  13. Good turn out this year, estimated about 20,000 Bikes. I meet my buddies at 77th & Western and jumped in just after the state troopers. I did see a few other Ventures roaming around at Devry, mostly white or white/silver combos.
  14. But police bikes are also sold from the dealership as brand new without having served. Due to the current economic conditions most departments are holding on to their service bikes longer and putting higher mileage. The age and mileage on this bike lend me to belive it was sold off the dealership floor. Agreed this is the best route to go, also the most expensive. The Screaming Eagle Cam Shoe Conversion usually runs about $450 including parts in the Greater Chicago area.
  15. 1. This bike appears to have the standard model wagon wheel rims, double check the sidewall as the police bikes do say RUN FLATS but I think your in the clear. 2. All 2000+ model year police bikes are Fuel Injected. '02 would be the updated Delphi injection system. HD and aftermarket still offer the injection tuners for this system. 3. The bike does not have the OEM exhaust. Check to see if there is a backing plate on the air filter or if you can touch the filter element behind the "ham can." If there is a backing plate it MAY NOT have the Stage 1 download fuel/ignition map, make sure to ask. If it is an open element filter it MUST have the Stage 1 download our the engine is running to lean and could have overheating damage, again make sure to ask. 4. IF this was an actual Police Service bike (doubtful with the low mileage) it most likely would have had the Screaming Eagle cam chain tensioner update. Ask if the previous owner may have had this done. 5. The cam chain tensioners, as mentioned by others, is the weak point of this motor. There are heavy duty, aftermarket, or gear driven replacements. This is the one item you NEED to have inspected. They are hit or miss, some people go 100k miles and are fine, some go 10k miles and they are chewed up, there is no pattern to tensioner wear. 6. Rear steer is not an issue unless overloaded. Overloading these bikes is easy, but not detrimental to the mechanicals of the bike. I have loaded the HELL out of my '03 and pushed it well beyond its intended use and never had an issue with rear steer. I have also road similar bikes with almost no load and felt the back end wander. Again, hit or miss. Basically, the swing arm mounts to the motor and the motor is rubber mounted allowing a bit of free-play in the pivot point of the rear suspension. They make Bagger Braces to lock the back end of the motor and pivot to the rest of the frame, I feel this only mask the problem. The better solution is poly motor mounts and swing arm bushings, eliminate the problem vs a band-aid.
  16. I purchased a set of Screaming Eagle touring pipes, supposedly the old 105db model at a swap meet for $40. I have a nice burble at idle and decent sound while reasonablely at 65mph. You will never get the HD rumble since we are a V4 and smaller displacement per cylinder. The V&H has the nicest sound off all the YouTube clips but they also run $300 + on the used market. Any aftermarket HD Touring pipe will sound pretty good on these bikes.
  17. A lot of the engines listed share the same architecture while having different bore and stroke: The 650 is a bored out 535 As the 1900 & 1700 is to the 1600
  18. Buddy of mine has an '06 Screaming Eagle HD with a 103in and the same exact mufflers as mine. I have a nice burble at idle and up to 2,000 rpm then it tappers off, almost nothing at 65mph on the highway. His bike has a BIG bark and almost needing earplugs at 65mph. Knowing some similar HDs with Monster Ovals and how they sound at speed I'm sure on our V-4 it would be a very similar experience of quieting down at speed.
  19. The 1600 & 1700 cc Roadstar & Warrior motors are stout motors and have seen some pretty decent built engines with stock internals. I know a few RSWarriors pushing 100,000 miles on a sport-cruiser that they ride hard. Their biggest downfall is the belt drive jack shaft has a tendency to strip.
  20. Bought the same brand off eBay earlier this year for my '99. I needed a shorter shield (previous owner put a MONSTER on) so I could look over it and the old one was scratched up. Perfect match and no issues when mounting. So far in 3 months its been great, held up well to bugs and washings with little to no scratching. Been debating getting a tinted shorty for the summer months. Hopefully you have the same luck with yours now that its mounted.
  21. Legalities...but in the US there are only certain areas that require DOT inspections. I'm in the Chicago area and neither Illinois nor Indiana have inspections, you should see some of the custom jobs running around the area with virtually no lighting, indicators, etc. As for using the stock reflector brackets, AWESOME...add that to my winter mods. But I'll do some small LEDs as marker lights. Adding the 35w or 55w on top of the stock lighting and heated gear might be a bit to much draw.
  22. A little bit of searching and you can find the diagrams for the adapter brackets. Bro-In-Law is a machinist so it took him 30 min at work to make some nice ones for me. I used the chrome clamps over the mounting flange on mine because I didn't want to hack up my stock mufflers, it was worth the $30 in case I ever go back or decide to sell the stockers. In your case the stock chrome "bell" might not match the Monster Oval shape so take some measurements before you hack the stock one up. I'll send you a PM with some more information....I just put a set of 105db HD Screaming Eagle Touring Pipes on mine about 2 months ago.
  23. If you only change the mufflers no carb adjustments are necessary. If you ALSO change the intake or head pipes then you would need to tune the carbs. You didn't ask, so I'll assume you've found the mounting brackets and clamp information already. You will need to expand the muffler intake slightly to fit over the head pipes.
  24. Lost my father in May, 4 days after his 67th Birthday and the day after Mother's Day, to a heart attack. We has just spent the weekend at the cottage cleaning up and getting ready for the season, he was up and down the road all day with my Niece and Nephew fishing and no signs of anything wrong. My father was a retired carpenter, I worked the trades with him through college and learned a lot. I just purchased a new house and was ALWAYS on the phone with him asking for advice or tricks to projects. He relied a lot on me being his muscle when we took on projects. I had a great relationship with him. My wife is due this week with our 1st child, I still don't know how I'll get through telling him about his Papa.
  25. Chicago has been Mid-High 40's and somewhat clear this week...weekend will be 28 and snow flurries. Guess It's time to clean out the workshop and put her away after Toys For Tots next weekend.
