HH Pads on the front is about the only "upgrade" if you already have the braided lines. Late 90's and early 2000's R1/R6, 02-05 RS Warrior, or 07-up Road Star 4-Pot Calipers are a bolt on swap but you'll need to change your lower brake lines.

My mother & father purchased a lake house back around 2000 and the family has had their fair share of boats & watercraft since. My father was a carpenter so keeping up the mechanical stuff was never his strongest point, but between him and I we were able to keep everything running good. 1. The 22' Pontoon with a 60hp Johnson has been stone-reliable with nothing more than fuel, batteries, props & typical winter layups. 2 The 1st set of Mastercraft jet-skis were reliable once we put filters on the water intakes and solved the sand-clogging issues, we now have Yamaha's that have been reliable. 3. The ski-boat debacle was our biggest downfall. We get shallow in the late summer and it ended up sitting on the trailer more than it got used and this lead to a lot of wasted money in maintenance. Then the floods in Jan/Feb '08 and it went under water multiple times, that was the end of that.... 4. Dad bought a 16' jet boat that was a blast, he passed away shortly after and it was just to much to handle for mom. Had it a year, never even transferred to our name, and made $500 when we sold it.

Midnight sub-model vs. Standard (or other Star's are Silverado) model. Paint & Chrome designations, no difference mechanically.

Dunlop Elite 3 Touring Front Tire - Motorcycle Superstore If you click on the "Sizing Chart" button right above the Add to Cart is shows the whole spectrum of Dunlop tires. It did shock me that the 130 is rated higher than the 150, but a 130-16 front was standard on the HD Touring bikes for years and probably designed for heavy loads from the start.

No one is going to RECOMMEND that you modify your bike beyond the factory equipment, some even to to the point of you shouldn't fit anything than the OEM Bridgestones. YOU have to make the decision as to what you are comfortable putting on your motorcycle. When changing any aspect of a tire you need to look over the weight capacities of the tires, realize there are pro's & con's to each modification that you make. The MT90B-16 is a 130/90-16 equivalent in the Elite 3 which will be 1% smaller diameter than the 150/80-16 stock. It also has a slightly higher load rating (780lb vs 760lb) for the comparable E3 150/80-16. The American Elite is 680 lb load rating and a radial design tire. Use caution when mixing Bias & Radial tires on the same bike.

Shell Rotella (Blue Bottle) is 5w-40 Synthetic Shell Rotella (White Bottle) is 15w-40 Shell Rotella (Grey Bottle) is 10w-30 Syntheic Blend...if I remember correctly this does have friction modifiers in it and is not recommended for wet clutch use.

Do Classics have the audio controls on the bars, or just the Ultras & Street Glide? Does it only do it from the hand controls or also from the faceplate controls?

JC Penny revamped their price protocol a few years back and stopped doing Sales & Coupons; the experiment failed miserably as their sales (and stock value) plummeted. People get a high if the PERCEIVED value of a coupon or sale, even if they could have saved more elsewhere at "regular price." Any time I list something on Craigslist I assume 10-20% off my asking price just so I can "hook" a buyer who comes to take a look. If they hem-an-haw you drop your price and 90% of the time they'll bite.

I purchase those same clamps from the local independent "harley" shop that is a Drag Specialties and Custom Chrome dealer for $36 and no shipping. IF you happen to have a local independent shop that is a Drag Specialties dealer give them a call, doesn't hurt to ask.

Gave up on Monsters and bought RK pipes
BratmanXj replied to Bert2006's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I put a set of OEM take offs from an '06 Screaming Eagle Ultra (all touring model pipes are the same), they are the 103db pipes you'd find in the accessory catalogs. The local HD shop had a parking lot flee market about a month after I bought the bike and picked them up for $30. Another $30 for the chrome clamps and had my brother in law make the brackets for me. I have a nice rumble at idle, a bark when I wind it out, and fairly quite from the seat at medium cruising speeds. -
1996 - got a "little old lady drove it to dialysis on Tuesdays" Ford Granada, radio shack tape deck head unit and a single working speaker in the dashboard. I had already been playing guitar for a few years and was big into Alternative & Grunge Rock... Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart, Big Bang Baby Gin Blossoms - anything from New Miserable Experiance But the one song that always rocked was from a somewhat local group out of University of Illinois. Cadillac used the song for a comercial about 5 years back and I nearly broke my ankle running into the living room when it came on the TV.

R1 Caliper Questions
BratmanXj replied to Venturous's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The stock rubber lines will fit with a bit of wrestling with them to get the right twist. Aftermarket RSV Stainless lines WILL NOT fit as the stainless limits the twist. Talk to SkyDoc about his stainless lines to fit the R1 swap otherwise you'd have to custom order from one of the major companies. -
R1 Caliper Questions
BratmanXj replied to Venturous's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yup, that cover's the basics of the swap...Any R6 or R1 caliper that has the "horizontal" mounting tabs that act parallel to the caliper pistons vs the newer radial mounted calipers that bold "downward" through the caliper. The other options are early Road Star Warrior (2002-2005) or late Road Star (2008-up) that have the correct 14mm CHROME master cylinder and the upgraded calipers. I found mine through RSWarrior for $50 shipped (calipers & master) when I was researching and fixing the blown jack shaft on a ridding buddies bike. -
GPS location and mount for 1st Gen
BratmanXj replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Garmin Nuvi 765t requires 12v to the CRADLE and will not run from the 5v USB input. The 12v pigtails can be purchased off eBay or amazon for under $10. The traffic is useless unless in a MAJOR metropolitan area; I'm in Chicago and its 50/50 on the traffic being worth while. -
Valve Adjusting Question
BratmanXj replied to wannarsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Factory had .002mm difference shims but only .005mm available for purchase new. You can find the "2" & "8" shims through eBay or from someone who has done a valve adjustment and taken them out of an engine. Somewhere there is a nice excel spreadsheet that does all the calculations for you. -
Not trying to shoot down Vic & Indian (and any other maker) as "nothing is available" for them. The TF HD bikes I know are all aftermarket mix'n'match of an Evolution engine design with a race specific trans. I don't believe that any other brand used the divorced transmission style like HD so it makes it a lot more expensive to design the go-fast goodies required. Less the EVO engine has been around for 30 years.
-
That is what has become of most racing series out there...Nascar, where did the STOCK go? All using the same engine block, chassis, suspension, tires, etc etc. The import TF/Alcohol guys (both bikes and cars) have to work for their speeds, its not like you can walk down to the local parts store and select from 6 different heads & intake manifolds for your Honda! With the R&D push that Polaris put into the Indian line to not just make it Victory in new sheet metal I figured they'd at least try and build a legit race engine out of either the 106 or the 111. It would most likely be all in-house parts as neither bike has the aftermarket like HD.
-
Read that, too. So in simple terms is a top fuel HD rider, taking his top fuel motor out of his "Harley" drag bike and putting it in a chassis that Victory is making him. I've grown up with a TF bike in the family, there is nothing HD about a HD Drag bike other than the engine architecture. Its all race specific stuff in a custom built chassis...so where is the news in this?

The Garmin 765t (that is long since discontinued, but has a strong following) has that very few other GPS offer...FM Transmitter! You can set the GPS to send an FM signal, usually set very low on the dial, and tune your radio to receive the signal. This way I can have my MP3 player going and jump back into it when I can't find something I like on the radio.
-
I've used a 765t since 2010 across 3 different bikes now. I recently "upgraded" to the 1490t, I've lost the MP3 player & FM transmitter from the 765t but a much larger/brighter screen and lifetime maps. I debated updated the 765t but it would have been $80 for the lifetime map update vs $60 for the clearance 1490t.

I'm only 34 so mine are more recent... 1. Kindergarten classroom watching the Challenger launch in '86 2. Sitting with my Dutch immigrant grandparents at their kitchen table watching the Berlin Wall come down in '89. My Opa (grandfather) owned a market in Enschede, Netherlands where he hid out people escaping Nazi Germany during the war. 3. At work as a delivery driver about to head into downtown Chicago when the 1st plane hit. All deliveries were halted for the day, I immediately called up my sister who worked downtown.

Passing Lamp Mount
BratmanXj replied to BratmanXj's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So the RSTD Mount is more narrow than the Venture mount? I don't have the fork deflectors (didn't come with the used bike) so I'm not against "loosing" them; just trying to figure out the logistics of the mount. If they are similar other than the bends & angles I'm all for it, if it's shorter or looks odd on a Venture I'll spend the extra $40 for the Venture mount. -
I have been looking to add passing lamps to my '99 RSV but like everyone I'm on a budget. I've been keeping an eye out for the Venture mount but everyone is near OEM prices but I did find a phenomenal price on a '05-08 Tour Deluxe mount. I thought I read somewhere that the TD mount will work on a Venture but you loose the small air deflectors. Can someone verify this for me, as the bike did not have the air deflectors when I purchased. Thanks

Not sure where the article went but I agree with Mike that the Purolator automotive filters may fit but are designed for a higher volume/pressure oil system than our motorcycles. I have switched back and forth between K&N (for the people who need name brands) and Emgo oil filters with good results. I've cracked an Emgo apart and it is of similar construction as the Purolator but "softer" spring on the bypass valve.
