  1. Ha, I worked on the remodel of the 4th & 5th floors of that Hotel back in college when I was laboring during the Summers.
  2. Hey, were in the low 60's and clearing up after this mornings rain!
  3. Looks awfully similar to the Custom Chrome luggage rack I had on my HD Road King a few years back.
  4. The 1600/1700 Road Star/Warrior engines are push rod and MUCH better than the comparable HD motors. They run on Reg. Unleaded fuels without the heat management issues that HD has with their 96ci & 103ci running premium, get comparable fuel mileage and great torque. It is a completely different riding style than the 1300cc Royal Star Engine, neither good nor bad. I go back and forth between an Ultra Classic, Warrior, and the Venture. If I hadn't have come from a Sport Tourer and understand mid-range rpm riding the Venture would feel like a dog. The Tourer market has been trained on low-end torque and that is better suited from a big inch push rod motor.
  5. On the last bike I had the 765t and Scala headset, the original firmware for the Scala paired just fine with the 765t then the ver2.0 firmware had connectivity issues. Look up the model bluetooth reciver and see if there is maybe a firmware update available as well as what was changed/corrected in the newest software?
  6. I've got a HID to go into the RSV and have been debating between the TruckLite spots or Adjure lenses with LED H3. I guess TruckLite it is...
  7. I had KromeWerks Sweepers on my Road King and LOVED them, great bars and had the perfect wrist alignment I was looking for (knuckles pointed forward vs outward). I'd love to see if they fit a Venture and I'd gladly swap them out as they are fairly inexpensive as handle bars go.
  8. My Brother-in-law made mine one day after work at his shop. Machined, beveled edges & painted and it took him about an hour with the full size drawings I made for him.
  9. Exactly how I did mine, but I used a mighty-vac to refill. Pull 5psi of vacuum & flip the container upside-down to feed oil back into the forks. I did go to 12w fork oil as I'm 250lb and ride 2-up & loaded. Not to harsh (but is stiff) and solved a lot of fork dive issues.
  10. http://www.amazon.com/Twist-Strainer-Marine-Filter-Shurflo/dp/B00EDR045C/ref=sr_1_12?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1427736064&sr=1-12&keywords=shurflo What I used on my MasterCraft Jet Skis (yes, that mastercraft, Yamaha 61x 701cc motors in different shells) was very similar to this link. I found them in the McMaster-Carr catalog with the correct sized barbed fittings on both ends. I'm also lucky as McMaster-Carr's main distribution in Elmhurst is right on my way home from the office.
  11. With a 1200cc 3-seater you'd be a REAL 53-55mph as the speedometer tends to be very exaggerated. My Yamaha GP1200 2-seater that was designed as a "race" ski will pull 58mph on a GPS when the dash shows 65mph. That ski will also beat you up on even a little bit of chop. The Yamaha Wave Venture I have is a 3-seater cruiser with a deeper draft that sits much nicer in the water when out cruising. If you run them W.O.T. you'll be lucky to get an hour 1/2 out of a tank, but back off just a bit and you'll ride all day on a tank. As for maintenance: If you run in a deeper/cleaner lake they should be pretty simple, and really no different than normal maintenance on the bike. If they don't already have a hose attachment get one installed, flush every couple of rides or when they will be sitting for an extended period. If you are running in shallow/sandy water like I do I have added strainers on the intake lines. I'll explain more if you need to know. The biggest issue 2-strokes have is oil starvation, make sure to keep the oil tank topped off with good TW-3 oil and make sure the oil lines to the carbs are in good shape. Same as the bike, a 5 min visual inspection now and again goes a long way. Winter storage for me has always been: Stabil the fuel (or drain if possible) and run for a few minutes to circulate into the whole system. Then oil-fog down the throat of the carbs till the ski stalls, pull plugs and fog each cylinder. Spray down the engine/electrical with silicone, drop a bit of RV antifreeze into the engine, disconnect battery and store it away.
  12. E3 is considered a "higher-end" touring tire where as the D40x series is a heavy-weight cruiser tire. E3 usually cost more than a D40x tire, but supposedly give a better ride quality, longer life, and possibly better traction. P.S. Individual results may vary.
  13. I have the best of both. Wife's a school teacher, mother is semi-retired; Friday mid-day they pack up the kid and head down to the cottage together. Friday afternoon I get off work, park the car in the garage and head down on the bike. Park the bike, put on a bathing suit and push a jet ski into the water and gone again!
  14. The RSTD light bar WILL FIT on a Venture, but do not have the mounts for the small deflectors that usually mount under the turn signals. As I never recevied those deflectors whe I purchased my bike used it was a non-issue and I use a RSTD mount on my Venture.
  15. That is an american tire SIZE and not a model number, where at 130/90-16 is the metric equivilent size. You'd still have to select the model (Dunlop E3, Dunlop 404, etc etc)
  16. I've began collecting parts for next winters mods. HID, LED Spot Lamps, New Speakers & Power Amp, GPS harness, new head bearings, sonic springs...I guess I can add this to the list too.
  17. I've got a '96 Wave Venture 700cc 3-seat "Cruiser" that mom uses and loves. Its a nice ski that's stable in the water and can pull 40-42 mph and still pull a tuber. Then there is my '97 GP1200 1200cc 2-seater that is a stock 60mph monster. I've tuned it "down" to be more stable with a better hole-shot than top end performance but either way HOLD ON! Both purchased well used but in clean condition for not a lot of money, if you shop between Labor Day and 1st of Spring there are plenty of good deals out there.
  18. You'll never get a V-Twin "rumble" from these bikes. The pipes that sounded deep and throaty on my buddies SE Harley sound good (a little "loopy") at Idle on my '99 but more like a wound out glass packed small block V-8 at speed. These engines are all about RPM and not really the low-end torque monsters, 3,000 to 5,500 RPM and the cruise nicely. Do HD mufflers fit a 1st Gen 1200cc?
  19. HH Pads on the front is about the only "upgrade" if you already have the braided lines. Late 90's and early 2000's R1/R6, 02-05 RS Warrior, or 07-up Road Star 4-Pot Calipers are a bolt on swap but you'll need to change your lower brake lines.
  20. My mother & father purchased a lake house back around 2000 and the family has had their fair share of boats & watercraft since. My father was a carpenter so keeping up the mechanical stuff was never his strongest point, but between him and I we were able to keep everything running good. 1. The 22' Pontoon with a 60hp Johnson has been stone-reliable with nothing more than fuel, batteries, props & typical winter layups. 2 The 1st set of Mastercraft jet-skis were reliable once we put filters on the water intakes and solved the sand-clogging issues, we now have Yamaha's that have been reliable. 3. The ski-boat debacle was our biggest downfall. We get shallow in the late summer and it ended up sitting on the trailer more than it got used and this lead to a lot of wasted money in maintenance. Then the floods in Jan/Feb '08 and it went under water multiple times, that was the end of that.... 4. Dad bought a 16' jet boat that was a blast, he passed away shortly after and it was just to much to handle for mom. Had it a year, never even transferred to our name, and made $500 when we sold it.
  21. Midnight sub-model vs. Standard (or other Star's are Silverado) model. Paint & Chrome designations, no difference mechanically.
  22. Dunlop Elite 3 Touring Front Tire - Motorcycle Superstore If you click on the "Sizing Chart" button right above the Add to Cart is shows the whole spectrum of Dunlop tires. It did shock me that the 130 is rated higher than the 150, but a 130-16 front was standard on the HD Touring bikes for years and probably designed for heavy loads from the start.
  23. No one is going to RECOMMEND that you modify your bike beyond the factory equipment, some even to to the point of you shouldn't fit anything than the OEM Bridgestones. YOU have to make the decision as to what you are comfortable putting on your motorcycle. When changing any aspect of a tire you need to look over the weight capacities of the tires, realize there are pro's & con's to each modification that you make. The MT90B-16 is a 130/90-16 equivalent in the Elite 3 which will be 1% smaller diameter than the 150/80-16 stock. It also has a slightly higher load rating (780lb vs 760lb) for the comparable E3 150/80-16. The American Elite is 680 lb load rating and a radial design tire. Use caution when mixing Bias & Radial tires on the same bike.
  24. Shell Rotella (Blue Bottle) is 5w-40 Synthetic Shell Rotella (White Bottle) is 15w-40 Shell Rotella (Grey Bottle) is 10w-30 Syntheic Blend...if I remember correctly this does have friction modifiers in it and is not recommended for wet clutch use.
  25. Do Classics have the audio controls on the bars, or just the Ultras & Street Glide? Does it only do it from the hand controls or also from the faceplate controls?
