Looks awfully similar to the Venture owner I spotted over the weekend...even has the same bike.

Last time I used debit internationally they held a large chunk of money, I tend not to use debit anyways. I'm gonna call my CC company and inform them that I'm traveling since I've been declined at the gas station across the street from my house for making to large a purchase! If we're only over there a day 1/2 I'll just wing it with US Currency, I don't think we'll be doing to much Mom & Pop type stuff but more traveling. Thanks Guys!

We're finally nearing the date for our Lake Erie loop trip and just want a few quick pointers. Passports and Canada insurance are all take care of, but what about cash & credit cards? I know debit for international transactions is a no-no. I'll call my credit cards this week and find out more from them. We are spending about 36 hr in Canada between the Niagara area and Windsor Area. Are American dollars readily accepted, travelers checks, or should I get cash converted over?

I'm not sure if going from a step-through scooter to a big touring bike is to big a step for you. As stupid as it sounds, you might want to look into Harley Davidson's rental program and rent an Ultra Classic or a Goldwing (even though you have no interest in owning one) just to get some saddle time with a big, heavy touring bike before dropping money on a Venture. I had a HD Road King before the Venture, I spend frequent saddle time on my Buddies Screaming Eagle Ultra Classic. To me the Venture is slightly more cumbersome at low speeds but not ungodly terrible, and there are some reasonable fixes for the heavy steering and high seat height. Once moving the weight and size is a non-issue. This is why I say get on a similar rental bike to see if the step up to a touring bike is comfortable to you from a light weight step-through.

I used a mighty-vac with an inline canister to add about 100cc a shot. Pull about 4-5 psi of vacuum on the front forks, invert the canister and let the vacuum pull the oil into the front forks through the (de-cored) schrader valve

I get 2 Scorpion EXO-900 modular helmets into my tour pack, one XXL one L. Not sure if it's maybe "egg" shaped helmets vs "round" shaped but so far I haven't had an issue.

I took mine off when I did the 1st tire change and never put it back on, I didn't notice a difference. Now I have an 18" Stratoliner front wheel and it came with a "less intrusive" weight so I put it on when installing the tire, again I did not notice a difference.

So did you trade the old bike in on the '13 or are the scraps for the picking?!?

I did a Coil-On-Plug swap to my last bike ('97 C10 Kawasaki Concours) as my stock coils were starting to develop cracks and minor Hot-Humid weather miss-fires. As Gary stated I found coils with the harness on eBay for under $50 from a mid-2000's sport bike, I think mine were Suzuki GSXR Denso coils and built my own sub-harness for the bike using a flat-4 trailer plug to join into the bike's stock coil wires. The Concours design was from the Mid-80's and the architecture was the same across a lot of different bikes so there was MANY examples of guys building the harness. Gary, from your explanation its only the MkI that need the resistor "buffer" and not the MkII or the 2nd Gen?

Its a discontinued Harley part but it was made to fit any touring model and came stock on quite a few years of Screaming Eagle bikes.

Yes and No....Only the CVO models and the Ultra models have the water cooled heads. The Road Glide, Street Glide & Road King models have the standard oil cooled 103" motor. Harley dropped the Classic and Standard models of the Electra Glide in 2014. All of these bikes share the same frame it's just a matter of the amenities (windshield, fork fairing, or fixed fairing, saddlebags & tour packs) that make them different models. The water cooling is not something that can easily or cheaply be added to one of the lower models, and that would be my deciding factor when purchasing a NEW model. The water cooling added a 15% bump in torque (HD doesn't publish HP numbers) since the water cooled engines can be built to tighter tolerances than the air cooled motors, yet to be proven but I'd expect engine durability to be better also.

Anything in the Softail line has a B motor, as they are solid mounted to the frame, Dyna and Touring chassis have rubber mounting and thus the "unbalanced" motors. Exhaust note is the same for either motor, I have never really noticed a difference in engine performance as the seating position was more of a pain than the engine characteristics.

Shoot, I've been looking at the "voltage-delay" relays that don't fire the headlight until you rev up the engine and hit 13.5v, but those are more than double the price. I guess it's time delay then.

I used a 765t for a long time on the bike, boat (fishing maps are great!), and car. In bright sun this model is very difficult to read. I recently purchased a 1490t and the screen is MUCH brighter and I don't have any problems with reading the screen, but I lost the FM transmitter & mp3 player capabilities. I hate where Garmin has gone with the features of the current models its either basic "auto" routing or spend $600 on a MC specific unit.

The Standard Duty shock is $480, the uprated spring and custom setup Heavy Duty is $520 from Hagon. I'm 250lb usually loaded or two-up and ride a "brisk" pace, so far no complaints on the HD shock. My understanding is Hagon's are factory rebuild-able with a 2yr warranty where as Works has rebuild kits available for purchase.

OUCH...I only did demo, got shipped off somewhere else before the remodel. You'd be only 10 min from the office, but I'm working down south the rest of the week.
