  6. Exactly Jack!! You see that lid disappear? INCOMING Years ago,, before the Empire took over,, back in the days when rat shooting at open dumps was a thing (talk about FUN), Dynomite was available at our local hardware stores. When I was a kid I actually got to see a car door disappear into the sky (like an arrow shot skyward out of a Compound Bow ) under the influence of 1 stick oh Dynomoe.. This video reminded me a little of those long gone by days.. By the way,,, the reason I found this video is cause Tip noticed one of those "double barrel" tacticle shotguns at the gun shop yesterday (the DP-12) and we played with it some. Found this vid while showing her it in action on youtube. While not that impressed that much with the performance of the 12 (prefer my mag fed AR 12 gauge wayyy over this one:thumbsup:) , I was THRILLED to see the drums fly!! Pretty cool!!
  7.:crackup::crackup::rotf:,,, hey,,, wait second here,,, what am I laughing about here,, ,, I think ya might be sinuating the Pucster is just another one of ya bunch of lop eared twisted brained VR varmints.. On the other hand though and just an FYI saddlebum,,, Tip did indeed write that on my behalf:guitarist 2::guitarist 2::guitarist 2:
  8. Been looking closely at conversion kits for my 45 and noticed this... Wayyy cheaper than a full blown, flat out conversion PLUS,, wouldnt even have to monkey with my shooter to jump from one caliber to the other... Wonder if its Mil Spec full size framed to keep the shootin eye/hand in memory check... Could get interesting... Anybody got one? Thoughts? Opinions? https://www.gunbroker.com/item/800215224
  9. Got home from checking out another house for the daughter, husband and grandson down by Battle Creek late last night (they are living in an apartment and eagerly looking for their first house,, found a basement wall caving in on this one,, told em to offer 1/2 of asking - fix the wall and flip it - make :mo money:the old fashion way = one fixer upper at a time ) to find new shootin arrivals waitin at the door. 1k rds 45, 5 hundred rds 12 ga, 5 hundred 308.. Getting ready for the Bachelor party I am putting on for that California soon be Son-In-Law that's coming to marry my Michigander daughter here back in here homeland... Welcome to West Michigan country where freedom still runs free and clean oh sweet Son-In-Law of mine . On the way to Battle Creek yesterday, running about 45 minutes early, Tip see's a gunshop in a place called "Richland" Michigan,, says - hey,, a gun shop, we are early,, wanna stop :dancefool::dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:.. Walked in and I said (outloud for all to hear) = "ahhhhhhhhh the sweet smell of the 2nd Amendment,, smells GREAT in here.. Shopped till we dropped bought nothing but had a blast playing with "Anni Oaklee". Take that back,, on the way out the door after chatting with the shop owner for a few minutes, Tip noticed these and HAD to have one,,,, me too:

  11. Hope ya told the DMV that you were expecting the next two years to be FREE OF CHARGE since they missed you the first time around Chuck?
  12. Good on ya Corporal for gettin er done and avoiding any form of HD rider induced embarrassment in the process.. I do gotta say though, given the same situation and having not been so fortunate as to having not avoided a nasty dose of that sort of embarrassment, I probably would have proceeded like this: HD riders pull up and start the show.. Keeping calm while listening to the banter,, I would start telling them one of my true to life on road stories. As I'm laying on the ground looking for hinge remains: "Yea,,, I know,, bike problems with these beat up ol high mileage Ventures can be daunting.. I do remember one time my wife, my +240,000 miles stickered covered Venture and I were coming home from a 1 month tour and decided to explore the Sturgis Rally one more time. As we were headed in from the Rally a bike appeared on the side of the road, noting its beet red faced rider sitting in the ditch and his bike sitting there with his helmet clearly visible next to his kick stand (biker code for HELP),, we decided to part company with the +150 group of bikers we were riding with and have a look. When we stopped I instantly noticed a puddle of oil under the less than a year old 88" Twin Cam the guy in the ditch had been riding. When we pulled up I could see the rider was in a world of hurt. We fist bumped and then I asked how long he had been sitting in the +100 degree heat. I was SHOCKED to hear him say "over 3 hours".. I pointed to the back of our beat up old Venture at the gallon jug of water hanging on her backside and said - DRINK your fill and do it NOW! He did. After words he asked if I knew anything about HD's.. I said a little,, then asked what it did before it did. Hearing his description and noting the 20k miles he had on his new bike (bought it brand new in his home town of San Diago), I told him it sounded like the common issue of that HD was having with those early Twin Cams = cam chain tensioners wear out, the pieces of the plastic shoes on the tentioners fill the oil pump, she looses oil pressure and it destroys itself.. Dennis (the owner of the bike) says - funny the dealership never mentioned that . After using our Trac phone to call a tow truck, Dennis asked if I had heard of a "fix" that I would be willing to share. I pointed out the screws to remove to uncover the cams and expose the damage inside and explained that if it were mine, first thing I would do is get it hauled to a HD shop, have them open it up and verify what I was talking about, then I would inquire about instead of installing another weak system, have them check the runout on the crank and if less then 3 thou, snap in a set of S&S gear drive cams and an S&S high output oil pump.. We waited with him for the Tow, talked bikes, he was just finishing the last of my water when the truck pulled up.. Dennis followed Tip and I back to Tweeks who was still sittin on the side of the road smiling at the broken HD in front of her when he hugged my shoulder and said: Ya know what,, after 2 solid weeks of Sturgis, YOU TWO are the very first REAL bikers I have met out here (I looked at my weather worn, tent campin riding partner and then back at Tweeks and acutally started giggling at that). I sat in that (blankety blank) ditch for 3 HOURS in that heat and watched thousands of my "brothers" ride by without even acknowledging my existence,, even with my helmet in the "HELP" position = they went by me and my HD like I didnt even exist. Dennis then gave us his home phone and said that if we EVER needed anything when traveling his area - just call and he would be there!! About this time, I probably would have easily had my Venture back together at the fuel station Corporal and I would have turned on my key, smiled at those HD riders and said - seems the HD culture may have a hard time coming to grips with the fact that sooner or later,, we will all have bike problems if we ride em . Then smiled and left as they disappeared into my rear views with no chance of catching me to put a knot on my head ..
  13. And of course it goes without saying, your tender hearted - fun loving brothers and sisters here at the club get first dibs of that report - with 's and everything ,, when that eventful day happens,, right? Right You see folks,, its not what you know as much as it is who you know:thumbsup: P.S. - I still think my brother VentureFar might be a little spoiled BUT,, thankfully after his new best friend spoils him,, he shares the spoils with us:thumbsup:
  14. I am not sure that our Yamaha V-4's have a cam grind that is ground for valve overlap. Noticing the amazing low end torque that the 74 inch/1200cc engine produces and while thinking about building up a "V-Maxed" Venture (I actually had all the parts in my possession to do this but health got in the way and ended up selling everything) and still wanting to keep some of that torque (plenty for the amount of weight those ft/pds had to get moving so hp could take over once the R's crossed above 5252) , if memory serves, I think I did check and find these scoots are "0" valve overlap. I might suggest that you do some research and find out one way or the other.. One of the things to remember about valve overlap, while it does promote HP gains in the upper R's do to exhaust scavanging inviting higher velocities and cleaner fills,, it also is not a friend to emissions as your actually pulling unburned fuel into the exhaust (why those old muscle cars had such a sweet exhaust smell - I AM IN LOVE!!!) and for this cause, it is not uncommon for bike/cars being built since the 80's to not include valve over lap in their stock design.. Something to think about I reckon.
  15. Even though us totally innocent and friends of VentureFar will wait with enduring patience, as always,, we are looking forward to yet another one of your amazing reports my brother!!! Let er buck ya lop eared investigative reporting VR varmint!!! Thanks Neal and keep on Venturing Far! Puc
  16. You sure your not misreading this Neal and you are talking about the Eluder/Venture tests while we are discussing the Kawasaki Voyager? Or did you do a test on the Voyager too...
  17. Morning Wayne! (nodding at my brother as we pass in a club house hallway and fist bump as we do )
  18. Morning.. Just wondering if ya saw the sign out front of the club house that says Venture Riders MC? If ya did I spose you know that our responses are gonna favor the Yam and tah heck with all the rest ya Just pulling your chain @bsheilds48.. We're a mulifaceted bunch of lop eared varmints and love yakkin all brands, makes, models and your question is 100% welcome!! By the way,,, ,, glad you found us my friend (at least I hope we are still friends after that opening greeting on my part .. As you probably already know, the GL1500 is, as is the Yam, a carbed scoot. Most of us around here are familiar with carb issues on our Yam's as a result of either having the bike sit for a fair amount of time or just from wear and tear (diaphrams) from never shutting them off.. Personally, I have been around both the Yamaha (1st Gen Ventures) and the pre-1800 Wings (very limited but some exposure as both my brother and my neighbor have the 1500's) and can tell you, I would rather 5 Venture carb jobs to one Honda 1500. I only say that because, on the 1500, Honda chose to use a unique 2 carb type of a unit that justtt fits between the frame backbone and is a bugger to get to. The Honda is also known for developing a nasty flat spot as the accerator pump on those carbs wears out.. Is this that big of deal,,, to me it is cause I like fixen my own scoots and have fat fingers that just don't jive with the 1500. On the other hand though, the Wing is a fixed fairing bike which, after having covered a number of miles on both fixed and batwing scoots (the Yam your looking at is a batwing), I can tell you that, even though I like the looks of the batwing better - the fixed fairing bikes are not as tiring to ride 12 to 16 hour days,, IMHO of course. Another really nice thing about the Honda is that it has mid ship controls where the 2nd Gen Yam is feet forward only.. I LOVE my 1st Gens for their variety of foot placement options due to mid shippers (always nice to be able to adjust your ride positions when touring as well as having the option to stand up and ride). Bottom line, if given the choice for the same money, comparable condition and mileage,,, I think I would stick with the newer Yamaha.. Now,, if we were talking about a 2006 1800 Wing or later,,, I may have to reverse that choice:witch_brew:.. There ya have it,, should be enough info to start a morning ruckus around this joint. Thanks for the EXCELLENT start to another EXCELLENT day in the club house my friend!! All the very best in what ever you choose!! Puc
  19. Certainly not surprised to read your take on the Kawi,, Tip and I sat on one a few years ago and were very intriqued with how close to our 1st Gen's in "feel" it was,, it definitely had that "take me out west CTFW appeal" to it. Being a gear head of sorts and always looking at ways of getting out of maintenance work, I was taken by the no valve lash adjustment because of it having hydraulic tappets (its an overhead cam(s) motor) really caught my eye. I know that Honda played with non-adjustables in their sweet little Nighthawks a number of years ago and, after cleaning up the internals (bikes that have sat for longgg periods of time often need this) = a smoother/quieter engine would be hard to find. I DEFINITELY see and TOTALLY get your comment on best bang for buck too brother! As in all things, I am sure a savvy buyer with cash in hand could land a brand new left over Voyager for under 15 with out much hassle. Now, about our opinions on the Triumph,, thinking we will have to agree to disagree on this one.. Personally, after having done the career thing on building Chops and even Bobbing a few scoots,, I have to default to a very old flame of mine and say I would rather have the Scrambler... No idea why Randy but high piped scoots have always held a special place in my heart,,, a childish passion? Maybe.. But still,, one look at this and I get all
  20. Randy,, you had a chance to demo a Voyager yet? As in all things I know there are Pro's and Con's out there, it would be interesting to hear your take on them if you've ridden em.. I gotta brother out in California who has been hogging down the miles on new scoots and writing reviews on them for UltimateMotorcycling.com and I KNOW his word is solid and unbiased. I know he is real busy these days but, just for the heck of it,, lets give em a shout and see if he, or his colleagues, have scampered a test on one of those puppies = @VentureFar , any thoughts on the Voyager? Will say one for sure,, price point is OUTSTANDING comparing to what else there is in touring land right now and WOWZY - I LOVE THE FAIRING DESIGN!! Fun yappin with ya again Randy!! Hope to see ya in OHIO.. Puc
  21. Another thing Tip and I can verify,, Michigan Enhanced Drivers Licenses dont work on the southern border.. Never a problem one crossing U.S to Canada and back, up and down the Northern border BUT,, you shoulda seen the look on those Southern Border guards faces when two wanna be bikers on an old, beat up sticker covered Venture with a tent hanging on the back pulled up and handed them our licenses:think:.. The look on their faces was priceless!!
  22. +1 (notice I didn't put +2? Tip will have NOTHING to do with this one!!) But yea @videoarizona,, I am 100% in the bucket list line with @Freebird on this one!! ,,,,, VR MC club group jump?????????????????
  23. :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf: Ohhhh Magoo,, ya did er again = I am DEFINITELY gonna add that to my "All Time Favorite VR Quotes" list!!!
  24. Me and Bum can verify that a simple trip to Kunuckian land for a Meet Greet, a snooze in one of Dogmans dog houses, lunch with a group of escapies from a Kunuckian physc ward and then end up in the middle of the pack during the grand Kunuckian Bike Tour riding beside those who probably planned-executed the escape from the farm then,, if you had any form of saneness about you before you parted for the journey,,, that saneness will be nothing but a distant memory on the ride home:Bunny: I have personally toured parts of all 48 lower States and a fair amount of Kunuckian land, have been to a variety of VR gatherings and met numerous lop eared VR club member varmints in the process and can 100% certify that if its sanity a person is looking for,,, that person should probably search the web a little more.. Fact is,, in all my research,,, I have only found one totally sane person within VR and his fingers are getting tired of typing this so you will have to guess who that is! HOTDOGS (with alllllllll the fixins:thumbsup2:) FOR EVERYONE DREWSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
