  1. Top line, forth from the left = "MEMBERSHIP", click on that and pay thru Paypal (as I recall,, been a while).. Or: https://www.venturerider.org/forum/payments.php Or,, get with @Freebird,,, the Boss will set cha right up!
  2. Seems viable Cha but still wonder of unplugging it (cant never go wrong going by the book) and cleaning the terminals real well and checking the lead for 12vdc and then jumpering like the book says would be the better option if you can get at it. Clean those terminals on the TCI real well too..
  3. If I hadn't of timed out cause of health, wouldn't have had a wife and 4 kids to provide for so I was busy splittin cases on resell's back when I started riding these sweethearts and knew what I know now about these bikes (thanks to my friends here on VR = special thanks to VenturousRandy for all the time he put into hammering out gear ratio's and educating me on this ), I would have grabbed one like you are buying, pulled the engine, split the cases and put in the updated hardened shim(s) to cure the 2nd gear issue and then proceeded to procure and install a gearset out of a Gen 2 to give me a lower 1st and higher 5th.. I have a solid gut feeling that my good friend Randy REALLY had it nailed and would have LOVED to give his hard work in RnD a run for the money!! On the other hand though, it really is a shame that Mom Yam didn't recall ALL 1st Gens sold up to the final fix that came in 85.. I know,, probably would have cost us "buy em cheap with no 2nd gear at 30k miles and then chase em out to 250,000 by short shifting" types in the end BUT, I still cant help but wonder if having done so might just of created a REAL Wing :stickpoke:if they had done so... IMHO, once the news gets out that there are major motor issues it is just a matter of time before the malady starts effecting sales.. Especially in todays day and age with social media.. Had the "Net" been around back then, I really wonder if our beloved Ventures would not have went the way of the Cavalcade if Mom Yam hid from the issue and only addressed it on a non-recall status like she did. Not complaining AT ALL though cause I REALLY have enjoyed the 100's of thousand of basically problem free and no cost touring it all did for me and my family but it still was not a good thing for the brand IMHO ..
  4. My guess is it's the vacuum operated spark advance Cha. Another guess would be that if you followed the vacuum line you see coming out of it it would lead to the number 2 jug (left side front cylinder, left side when sitting on the bike = same side as the shifter is on. On the 83's that line is not plugged into the nipple on the intake where you hook the sync gauges to but, I believe on all following 1st Gens (I know the 84's are like this cause my 1st first gen was an 84 and it was) had that line hooked directly onto the intake nipple in place of the rubber plug like the other 3 jugs are. Simply put, vacuum on that line is what advances/retards the ignition timing.. Thats my guess buddy!! Now hang out for a spell and see what the gurus say..
  5. I did the same cause @videoarizona said to:whistling: and told Sly about it:happy34:,,, heyyyyy,,, wait a second,,, am I startin to see a pattern developing here VR MC
  6. I am believing it does Sly as the copy in the "Auction" states: [h=2]""Black Matte Finish All Necessary Instructions and Hardware Included[/h][h=2]Lifetime Warranty From Sun Optics USA""[/h]That said though, and now that you ask,, I just sent a note to the seller double checking on it.. GOOD POINT MY FRIEND!! Thanks!
  7. OUTSTANDING CP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Loose motor mounts and/or missing isolaters on muffs/pipes making frame contact can also cause some really strange vibes..
  9. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, now THAT is doing up rightgeous brother!! JUST FLAT OUT AWESOME!!:clap2::dancefool::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Thanks VAz,, your ol frost bitten, cabin fevered, froze to bone Northern buddy and his bride REALLY needed that! Just beautiful!!
  10. ,, what,,, you got something again Kanuckians brother? @divey is a good friend/brother of mine,, best to play kindly with that one VAz,,,, now iffen we was talking @Marcarl or that @saddlebum lop eared varmint,,, then I would say,, yeahh,, pick on them Kanuckian lop eareds but not Doug = just to nice of guy...
  11. and I was able to locate this from Sun Optics (see link). 15 bucks, three little holes and even us varmints with fading old age eyesight are are back to shootin straight!! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sun-Optics-USA-Ruger-MK1-MK2-Pre-Drilled-Pistol-Mount-Black-NEW/352265721576?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D5bcbf262f94843b2be8ff8abeb13acb9%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D391924032845%26itm%3D352265721576&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  12. Mean while,, back at the ranch... Just a quick note to show non-members or anyone else shyly following this thread how things still operate around the club house here, lop eared varmints helpin lop eared varmints. Been chattin with Sly about moddin my Ruger MK1 to bring about a Picatinny system on it. As shown in pics below that Sly recently sent me of his MK3's receiver, it looks to be as easy as three little holes drilled/tapped = no need to chase down a Gun Smith with a dove tail cutter.. THANK YOU AGAIN JIM FOR THE FOLLOW UP = PERFECT!!
  13. I hear that and I am truly mighty thankful for the offer brother!! Only problem on my end is this +45 mile wide half frozen swimming hole that lies betwix us,,,, you get that oxy/acet mail service/circus cannon hammered out and maybe PRAYERS UP for the 21st @Flyinfool!! YOU ARE GONNA LOVE YOUR NEW TUNER MY BROTHER!!
  14. IMHO, judging from its forks I would say its a MK1 (83/85) as the later MK2 1300cc models had the electrical anti-dives and the one in the pic has hydraulics. Once again, another way of checking (besides though mentioned) would be to look at the intake connections for the sync gauges. If the #2 intake connection nipple is rubber plugged like the other jugs it is probably an actual 83. If it has a vacuum line leading up to the TCI rack (should have a small check valve in it too). Either way though, I highly doubt someone dropped a 1300cc/86 or later motor in it as it would not be missing 2nd if they did. More likely a swapped clutch basket cover of just an emblem replacement..
  15. Took the words right out of my mouth Bossman!!
  16. I'd grab one of these = https://www.ebay.com/itm/130-90-16-Shinko-712-Rear-Tire/332581065971?epid=171119424&hash=item4d6f6054f3:g:76kAAOSwpWBaoubR&frcectupt=true , spoon er on and be riding the back wheel of that scoot faster then you could say "why did I even consider putting a 7 1/2 year old shoe on this sweetheart" Sky!! Them Shinks are AWESOME tires and for the price (with free shipping) is outstanding!!
  17. I have done as Sky suggested numerous times, just remove the line and hit em with air, works great. I have also just used hydraulic pressure and done so successfully, doing so will also drive in some fresh brake fluid in the process. Simply remove the master lid or plug and keep the res filled while working. Remove the,,, wait a second,, sounds like your starting with a replacement caliper? Pull the pads, get a good idea of how thick new pads would be and use that number/measurement to estimate how far to drive the pads out, fill the caliper with brake fluid, disconnect the line from the old caliper (or any master you choose to apply pressure) and attach it to the replacement caliper, do at quick bleed at the banjo connecter and tighten it, watch the master level carefully = keep fluid in it as you move the pistons out with the lever or pedal. Run the pistons out to no more than a new pads width = if you have a piston that sticks while the other piston(s) come freely outward = just hold the pistons with channel locks or c-clamps to keep them from coming out all the way past the pad width and then continue putting hydraulic pressure on the stuck piston. Usually you can now pull the pistons the rest of the way out, if not, work the pistons little by little with hydraulic pressure but do so in small increments,, patience is key.. Air is really nice cause of the less mess but hydraulic pressure has no compressability and of times those pistons really need the extra push of the hydraulics.. Any of that make sense?
  18. now your talking!!!
  19. I have numerous buddies tell me that just hangin out with the likes of me can be such Sly.. Just an FYI to let you know that I understand if you choose to end this association
  20. Ya gotta tie a gremlin bell to your big toe Jack!!
  21. IMHO, oil types and length of time between oil changes can/will directly affect shifting smoothness as well as clutch slippage.
  22. Here is something else to possibly consider.. Bike to bike in comparable conditions, value to value, the Wing is worth considerable more on the open market (at least it was when I was in the business) than the Venture. The Wing line has been a longgg standing "cult" bike. If I were doing/looking like you are and are concerned with resale $,, I would DEFINITELY stick with the Honda..
