  1. AHHHH OHHHHHH!! I did it again,,, another confounded booo booo on my part here @Condor,, I can only hope and pray this didnt mess up your day here @Condor!! Sorry if I did!! I stopped at HR to grab some bits for my Hammer, noticed the shanks on the "SDS" bits didnt look correct. Left em there to investigate. Came home, checked the owners manual in my Hammer box,,, YIKES:scared:,, my shooter takes the "SDS MAX" = NOT the "SDS" like I had thought it did and like I had told you it did!!! Jack, I did some digging on Ebay and ended up ordering these for mine at the lowest "Buy It Now" pricing I could find on each: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SDS-Max-To-SDS-Plus-Adaptor-Chuck-Drill-Converter-Shank-Quick-Tool-Kit-Diameter/192732973931?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Pcs-SDS-Plus-Drill-Socket-Driver-Set-1-4-3-8-1-2-Chuck-Adaptor/401344013594?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid https://www.ebay.com/itm/SDS-plus-Shank-Adaptor-1-2-Chuck/152557918995?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid https://www.ebay.com/itm/20mm-4-Flute-Auger-Wood-Drill-Bits-SDS-Plus-Wood-Hole-Saw-Cutting-Tool-Long-HCS/132968339237?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid https://www.ebay.com/itm/11-PC-DRILL-BITS-SDS-PLUS-CONCRETE-MASONRY-ROTARY-BIT-SET-FIT-HILTI-BOSCH/121795921274?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid I know I am weird but :mo money:for tools is a lot like :mo money:on guns,,, just cant get enough of that wonderful stuff!!
  2. On occasion I hear (and have even spoke it many times myself) of the "good ol days in the club". Funny thing that living in the past stuff can be, all the great memories. Don't know about all the rest of you lop eared long term VR varmints who have been around the club for a while but, as for me, it's easy to miss the crowds of folks who used to party (using that term loosely) here. Watching each others "friends" lists grow was always fun, as was watching in amazement as the endless "thanks" and "likes" icon's appeared in posts made by V-4 guru's who helped us fix our bikes or by clubbers who just enjoyed a comment so much they just had to join the throngs and click on those icon's to join in on the HURRAH felt from the post. And of course, there was ALWAYS the WOWZY WOW WOW WOW factor of the feeling one got when pulling into a rally point of a VR Meet-n-Greet or other gathering of the minds in some land far away as your eyes feasted on the lines of mighty V-4 Ventures and their smiling owners. Be it on the West Coast, East Coast, wayy down yonder in the South or even wayyyyyy up thar in Kanuckian land,,, CTFW for hours on end was ALWAYS worth the trip. If your still reading this, you are probably wondering what my point is.. Well, take a breath,, I am getting to it:hihi:.. I seriously just wanted to try and orientate some of our new members on how easy it can be to create a really cool online MC club experience (IN NO WAY DOWN PLAYING THE ENDLESS HOURS THAT Freebird AND OUR MODERATORS PUT INTO ACTUALLY CREATING, SUPPORTING, MAINTAINING A CLUB LIKE OURS = NOTHING EASY ABOUT THAT I AM SURE ). Some things you, as a new member can do to make it work in your favor in keeping it all rollin (IMHO of course): 1. When you read something in a post, take a quick "click" on the little "thanks" and/or "likes" icon at the bottom of the post. This makes your friend who posted it feel more at home and will give you those same feelings when they do the same. Maybe get in the habit of clickin one or the other or both as you read. 2. Don't be shy. Your thoughts, opinions, ideas, ride stories w/ PICTURES , are ALWAYS appreciated. 3. Don't be to thinned skinned, as in any family environment, an occasional hurt feeling will arise but 99% of the time the varmint who hurt your feelings did not mean anything personal by it. 4. The creator/owner of the site (Don) has spent many many hours masterfully creating, among other things, an "Awards" section for the club. A little research/reading in that section will show you that there is an award available for just about every kind of activity. Don't be afraid to recommend one of your brothers/sisters in the club for one of these awards. When you do, and after the recommendation has been approved, the person you nominated will have an "AWARD" appear in his signature. Award honoring is FUN and is encouraged, at least IMHO. 5. Please do not forget to request/claim your own, earned, "Badge of Honor" if you are one of the amazing individuals in our family who has served in the Military/LEO/EMT or Fire Department branches of public service.. WE LOVE AND HONOR YOU WHO SERVE!! 6. If you find time in your busy schedule to sneak off and attend one of the many club adventures to meet some of these lop eared varmints face to face (be it at a Rally, Meet n Greet or just for a cup of coffee) DO NOT PASS IT UP! Go to the top of a page, find the "Calendar" icon, run thru the months and find a gathering and sign up!! THEY ARE A HOOT!! Also watch the threads where rallies are posted,, lots of opportunities there. Also keep an eye out in The Water Hole for such opportunities - while many times, the meets found there are spur of the moment shin digs, many lop eared varmints have found these outings to be some of the most entertaining. 7. Don't be afraid to post needs in the "wanted" section or buy/sell area's of the site. Many people have been helped finding some pretty obscure items just by mentioning what they are looking for. 8. Take a moment and make sure your signature area has, at a minimum, the year/make/model of the bike(s) you own. This little tid bit is really helpful to those who are standing inline to answer questions that you may have about your scoot. 9. Being a new comer, many folks find making suggestions in answer to someones question intimidating. Try not to be one of those types, learning new tricks to solve old or new problems is always fun and welcome!! Indeed,, you can teach a lop eared geezer varmint new tricks! 10. If you click on a person's name you will be led to their profile. If you look right under their name in the profile, the first thing you will see is "Add As Friend", if you click on Add As Friend you will be given the opportunity to do so and send a request to the person you selected to accept you as "A Friend". You can also look down at the bottom of their profile and see how many friends they have. While it may sound corny, that little Add A Friend thing can get kind of addictive, especially if your a person who really enjoys and treasures friends in life.. Use "Add As Friend" a bunch,, you wont regret it! 11. If you just signed up and find yourself in the "New Members Thread", please dont stop your adventure in our club there,, after getting that message of "Welcome" in that thread,,, head to the Water Hole and make an introduction. "The Water Hole" seems to be the livelier of the two forum thread areas. The last thing you want to do is get missed on your first day on the site! 12. At the very top, upper right hand corner, of every thread is an often overlooked by very useful opportunity for you to rate the thread you are participating in. Clicking on that little icon will give you an opportunity to give little gold stars to a thread you have enjoyed and/or found useful. Just another way of showing appreciation and participating in club fun!! 13. If you start a thread to make an inquiry asking for assistance, please remember to include the final solution you used to solve the issue at the end of the thread no matter how trivial it may seem. THANK YOU Chaharly for bringing this up! If there are ANY more suggestions like this to add in here, be it from you - the new member or from a long standing member - PLEASE make the suggestion! 14. Completely backwards to ways of the road, here in your club house people really LOVE to be summoned. The problem is is that not everyone hears real well. The Bossman (Don/Freebird) solved some of our hard-of-hearing problems by implementing the usage of the "@" symbol. If you find the need to have a certain lop eared club member varmint respond to a post you are making, using the "@" symbol directly in front of the members screen name will get you the quickest response from the person you are looking for. Look at post 14 above. Notice that Chaharly's name is highlighted and underlined? If used properly, this is a good example of how the person's screen name will appear in your post after you post it. Bottom line,, I have met and am personal friends now with some of the most fantastic, interesting and intelligent people on the planet due to VentureRider.org. Folks from all walks of life and from all over the world (and quite possibly even a couple Aliens from other worlds:cool10:) shave given me the privilage and honor of getting to call them my friend all because of our club. With just a little effort, perhaps you too will find this same opportunity by taking advantage of your 1 dollar a month investment.. I hope you do! Puc
  3. Rereading your question here Maddy I think I might have went down the wrong trail on that last answer, sorry bout that.. The engine number is stamped on top of the forward bevel gear housing at the rear of the engine. Yes, the last 4 digits of that number is what your concern is when looking for the 1414 and above. Not sure how to tell off the engine # exactly what year of bike the engine came out of if you are junk yardin just an engine with no access to title or title VIN.. Normally its the "10th" digit in a VIN that shows year of bike and not sure if that applies to engine numbers on these scoots. I do know that you can't go by the last 4 digit rule though if you dont know the year cause there were over 1400 of the 83's made so somewhere out there are a bunch of 83's with higher than 1414 stamped on the block as the last 4 digits.
  4. Yep,, it's just the last 4 digits of your VIN, as shown on your title, the neck of your scoot or the little white/black lettered sticker on the frame rail on the right hand side of the bike (right side when sitting on the bike/down by the rear brake pedal) just above the exhaust system. Easiest way to find it is just look at the Title. Keep in mind though Maddy that the "1413" reference when speaking of making sure you stay away from future 2nd gear failures on these V-4's ONLY applies to the 1985 Venture. If the bike is pre-85, it makes no difference what the VIN shows in those last 4 digits = 2nd gear will eventually fail. Make sense? Another thought, I purchased an 86 Venture once during an ice storm,, poor thing was in a storage unit and had been for many years. Felt sorry for it, bike was dirt cheap,, had to have it.. Seller helped me load it, handed me the Title, went thru all the hassle of loading and hauling, got er fired up to see what I had before starting the build = ran GREAT for a bike with +15 years of storage under her belt. Thought best to double check the VIN with the SOS BEFORE continuing, side sticker VIN was missing, bent down on the right side of the bike to see VIN on neck = AHHH OHHH = WRONG VIN!! Title didnt match scoot!! Seller would not answer phone or email = ROTTEN LOW LIFE!! Did a stolen vehicle check with the Cops = clean.. Ended up selling as a parts bike.. Moral of the story = ALWAYS check the Title VIN against FRAME VIN (on the neck) before paying for scoot (I knew this going in, had been there before, just failed to live by my own rule one time to many).
  5. Thinking these are the ones I grabbed for mine years ago Jack. I dont recall the 1 1/8th being the issue as much as making sure its "SDS" chuck and not SDS "MAX" or SDS "SUPER".. My Hammer is exactly like the one you just grabbed and I LOVE the thing!! DEFINITELY a performer for what it is!! There should be a grease pocket on top of the hammer (as I recall),, just make sure you keep er lubed and the thing will run for hours,, enough so that your hands will turn numb and any loose fillings will be found 15 bucks,, here ya go: https://www.harborfreight.com/SDS-Masonry-Flat-Chisel-Set-3-Pc-62479.html My sons got a bunch of concrete wall work to do and now I gotta scoot down to HF and grab these for mine,, might not be a bad idea to grab these too while your there,, if they any left: https://www.harborfreight.com/8-in-SDS-Masonry-Bit-Set-6-Pc-62482.html You are more than welcome for the lead ya lop eared side walk bustin varmint!! Dont work to hard
  6. GOOD ON YA VICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bowdown: Now be careful out there with that thang!! When a 1st Gen is hittin on all 4 and feelin its oats,,, they have a tendency to like to rare up on that back wheel when tickled... :guitarist 2::guitarist 2: GREAT NEWS BROTHER!!!
  7. You betcha, you are welcome and THANK YOU for sharing the pics with us!!! Right with ya, can't wait for the 20th for you!! Will be patiently waiting for the ?'s to roll in - someone around this joint will have answers for ya Maddy,,, TONS of very astute gearheads around the club,,, and a few of us back yard types too:missingtooth: Looking forward to your build!!!
  8. BEAUTIFUL brother,,, JUST GORGEOUS!! And if we were closer I would be headed to your man cave just to hear and SMELL that gorgeous little 180 twin fire up one time for old times sake!! I LOVED (and still do) all those early Yams.. Rode em and loved em!! They had a special "tone" to em that is irreplaceable with its synced "tat tat tat tat".. REAL NICE my friend,, REALLY REALLY NICE!! Redoing a Venture is DEFINITELY NOT OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE MADE2CARE!! I can see this rescued 1sr Gen Royale having a really really bright future! YOU DA MAN MADDY!!!
  9. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
  10. Got a request from a fellow club member to post up some pics of some stuff I may be bringing to MD this year for "Swap Meetin". ***THIS STUFF IS NOT FOR SALE AT THIS TIME (its stored in boxes and its still winter here, couldnt get at any of it even if I had to ) but hopefully will be available at MD this year.. I dont have actual pics of just the parts to share BUT I do have shots of Tweeksis in all her glory before I dismantled her to make her mine that are posted below. All the Chrome goodies are what I am referring to.. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW, I had forgotten how purdy she was :guitarist 2::guitarist 2:BST (that is Before Sticker Time).. If you see it missing in her AST conversion,, it will be there if we are!! SORRY,,NO PLASTIC OR SEATING!!
  11. Hearing that my friend!! By the way,,, dont know if I ever told you but THANK YOU for your service in supporting our way of life brother,, YOU and all those other folks who took the oath are GREATLY appreciated by Tip and I!! THANKS Jim!! Sooo,,, what in the wild world of protecting ourselves from those who would seek to destroy our way of life is a "Streamlight"? ,, you aint pullin one of those reverse psych thingies on me to return the favor of getting me to :mo money:are ya brother ?? Definitely sounds like something I may have to track down if it is what I think it is:Laugh: Just getting around to checking out my most recent ammo ship!! 5000 Rds of Aquilla 40 grain copper plated high velocity for 3.2 cents a round SHIPPED!! I went to lift the box and could hardly lift it (think I better do some:pushups:) off the porch,, makes me wonder how on earth the supplier could ship this stuff for free!! I aint complaining though,,, more :mo money:to spend on a,, "Streamlight" as soon as Sly splains it to me!!
  12. Quick Sly,, alter another one:missingtooth: before Fool see's this!!!! He's a finicky lop eared varmint who dont take kindly to varmints :stickpoke: The Wisconsin White Washer which usually ends up with the lop eared :stickpoke:varmint who :stickpoke:The WWW covered in and the innocent varmints between the WWW and that varmint (in this case,, that would be an innocent varmint like myself:cold:) ends up suffering the brunt of it all I know,, I know I know,,, close the door on the penalty box Puc cause your ways a leaking out all over the VR clubhouse floor,, again..
  13. ,, that Bongo,, he dont miss a lick!! You are spot on Bongo!!! It DEFINITELY has that vague assault aura about it dont it.. If I didnt have one just like it already in my AR collection I would be CTFW(s) down to HR to grab one myself just because of that!! GOOD ONE BROTHER!!
  14. Thinking of ya @Flyinfool!!! https://www.harborfreight.com/1-18-in-sds-variable-speed-pro-rotary-hammer-kit-64288.html?utm_source=1021&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1019PLS&cid=mEmail_s1021_1019PLS&lid=56,501,885
  15. WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,,, THAT is SHARP Chief!!! Never was a trailer pullin kinda varmint and partly because of the thought of any weird things that having no brakes on the trailer might create (like having to do an emergency manuever in a corner at hi speeds). Have you pulled a trailer behind a scoot with no brakes on the trailer before (as you mention,, that would be the "common" design from what I have seen)? If so,, what are thoughts on the comparison between the two? NICE Chief,, REALLY NICE!! By the way,, I assume your trailer brakes are electric? Or are they "bump" activated hydraulics?
  16. :rotfl: You fit real nicely with this group of lop eared varmints
  17. AWESOME!!! Thanks again for the info!!! If it works out I will probably post up a YouTube Video of its dynamics.. If so, I will mention your screen name and cut you in on half the huge proceeds made from advertising the product for them !!! Seriously though my friend, I hope the stuff works as well for me as it has for you,,, there is NOTHING worse than being 1000 miles from home and having float valves stick open because of rust particals from a rusted tank...
  18. ,, oh yeahhhhhh,,, :Hitit:BIG TIME!! For the life of me I cant remember the owners name Cha but gotta tell ya,, this guy is/was the master of care!! Thing was gorgeous.. :think:Definitely not my style though,, I would pull into a parking lot with something that purdy and some punk kid with a bent wheeled chopped Sportster with a spooly with a nail where the front axle is suppose to be on the front of it would have his only remaining brake decide to fail and him and his Chop would land against it:sign07:,,,, Murphies law and all that.. Gotta tell ya Cha,, the scoot that the OP of this thread is grabbing for 500 bucks could look as good IMHO... @made2care,, you got a LOT there to work with!!
  19. Thanks Boss,, preciate it.. And concerning the Venture auction... Was lookin at the list of lop eared varmints ya got goin there,, pretty impressive IMHO.. I do see a couple of su,, varmints that I know are LOADED and that have a bent toward the biker life style,,, I gotta hunch that after I skim my auction fee's off the top, you will be very happy with whats left over Any idea whether or not Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky is happening during MD again? I know they made some changes,, be cool if they made em just to line back up with VR MD:stickpoke:
  20. IMHO, my V-Max was actually geared lower than my Mk1's.. I know it had a smaller rear rim/tire (15 inch instead of 16 like the MK1/MK2's and, while I know very little about gear ratioing, I am pretty sure that alone would be a downward move it gearing. I also believe the rear end/final drive in the early model V-Max's (pre block 1700 that some of us were hoping would find its way into the new Venture) were geared down, not up, when compared to the MK1's and MK2's.. I don't know if you have access to manuals but I have some,, including the V-Max, that I will do some research on to compare ratio's when I get a second.. Suggest you do the same so we are both the same page?
  21. Was gonna just PM the Boss and ask him this but thought I would post the question here in case others are considering this.. @Freebird,, I know from past experience that vendors (like Pin Striping and such) are welcome at MD but, for some reason (probably suffering memory loss of some sort) I dont recall whether or not you allow on-site Swap Meetin (buy/sell parts?) at your place during MD? I have a gaggle of left over bling parts (take offs from Tweeksis) that I will drag along with me if allowed and if we are able to make it this year (my daughter keeps reminding me that she is coming back home to get hitched earlier in the month). No junk (guy before Larry who owned Tweeksis REALLY did a nice job of caring for the Chrome on this stuff), just some pretty cool stuff that someone may or may not be interested in... If not a good plan,, if I post the stuff in "Parts for Sale" here on the forums and someone wants to buy the ju,, bling,,, is drop off/pick up at MD allowed? I know,, I know,, why are you (Don) always the one who ends up paying the cost of my curiousity.. Another quick question,,, you gonna be good with me auctioning off your brand new Venture like I did with your HD last time I showed up down yonder :duck::duck::duck::duck: Back in the penalty box! Puc
  22. you sure bout that Patch? I did some gear swappin and, best of recall (dont take this verbatim though cause my recall aint what it used to be), the MK1 and MK2's had the same teeth count to grind,, all the way back.. Now maybe at the clutch basket or basket drive gear,, not sure on that.. Have ridden both and didnt notice a real difference between them ratio wise either.. Also fairly sure they have the same rim/tire sizes (looked carefully at em cause I wanted to go Darkside but the MK2's suffered the same malady as the MK1 for that application) so the up gear/taller set up of which you speak can't be caused by that... Hmmmm,, maybe some research by both of us to find out what is going on here = two brothers open to gettin schooled and taking on the task = dont get no better than that!
  23. Or the stock carbs need syncin cause the linkages, bushings, diaphrams, vacuum hoses and even screws that control them are old, tired and worn out.. Just like some of the riders who those amazing fastest, most comfortable, reliable 1st Gens who haul them are:witch_brew:
  24. Actually,, its not the "teeth" that are Hobbed on the gears that suffer at all Patch, after suffering tolerance stack between the ramps when the soft shim wears, the mating gear windows and its matching engagement cogs are the ones that suffer the fate. Even this is commonly not noticeable on the gearset's when viewed by an untrained gearhead as the wear is not that obvious. I have been splitting cases and repairing bike trannies for many years (for resale, yes but brother,, landing jumps on an MX track and landing with your foot on a shifter has created many needs for this as bent shifting forks can/will (IMHO) cause the same calamity. The "shavings" from ramp up wear/tear are very tiny and very seldom even found on the drain magnet.. Have never ever ever found a missing tooth of any sort in all my wearing completely out a 1st Gen with 2nd gear gone,, just doesnt seem to happen.. While I never did have a 1st Gen tranny apart, I have seen several examples of them (the complete gear sets with drive axles and shift drum) and gotta say,,, they are VERY solid.. I always thought my KX500 had wayyy over built gears in her but gotta tell ya,, the width and quality of the gears in these puppies are impressive,,, all IMHO of course.. By the way,, Tip only got off the bike to take a short = "watch this you guys,, this is one of the main reasons I do not pull a trailer" video.. Normally she just hangs on and goes for it right behind her man!!! And nope,, been riding a full trannied 1st Gen now for good while (THANK YOU AGAIN Carbon_One and Joyce for saving Tweeksis just for us!!) and can verify,, absolutely no difference in MPG at all.. Be it slow riding up mountain passes or CTFW all day across the empty but GORGEOUS western desert at a moderate 95 MPH (Tip has me "governed" below 100 with her on the scoot),, same super MPG either way... Now drop a diaphram on a slide so she's running on 3? That will DEFINITELY cut into the MPG but that happens 2nd gear or no 2nd gear...
  25. Cool!! I went pmag on my mags too, seem to be a pretty good product and I LOVE their Lifetime warranty. Grabbed a couple 20 rounders for both the 556 and the 7.62/'08 and a pmag 50rd drum for the 08. I did end up with a 100rd Korean Drum for the 556 and REALLY like the quality. Got it brand new/dirt cheap off an auction. Its the latest generation (must be slippin in my old age Skid,,, you know me and my love for 1st Gens:think:) that, like the pmag Drum, requires no graphite lube = maintenance free). Here's those pics of our AR family,, top is our 556, big brother 7.62x51 and grand daddy 12 gauge on the bottom.. Life is good MayAR,, life is good!!
