Back years ago when just a youngen, and a broke youngen at that, I did a lot of scraping cars for $$.. We had a junk yard a few miles from us who's owner loved us young gearheads and would pay us $25 cash for any vehicle we could drive, tow or drag in. It was a time and age when a youngen could knock on someones door who had a rust bucket sitting in their yard and if you asked with sad enough eyes they would almost always just give it to ya . One of the only requirements at the junk yard was the fuel had to be drained out of em. Motor oil was fine but no gas. I developed a very easy drain em method that not only took care of the no fuel rule but gave me a chance to shoot my 30-30 Deer Rifle. One shot straight down thru the trunk and the process was done. We had a 5' wide low spot in our field that I would line with plastic, pull the car over, shoot it, let it drain, drag it forward and toss a match in the gas.. It always amazed me how much smoke burning raw fuel would create. While not as bad as burning tires, in a non atomized state it is definitely not as clean burning of a fuel as one would think.

Why is it that there HAS to be a lop eared wise butt varmint in every crowd This one probably dont like Hot Dogs either Corporal Newkirk -
Back when I was running a Dealership I did a TON of business with a huge Auction House (in the new, out with the old) near the Ohio line so we got a lot of cross state business and I can tell you, Michigan is/was a breeze for title work compared to Ohio. Matter of fact, the Auction House would not/could allow sales of even old dirt bikes into Ohio without titles. This created a lot of hassle for folks from Ohio wanting to buy the older stuff as, back in the day, many Quads/Dirt Bikes and MX bikes of Vintage status never came with Titles in Michigan. Here in Mi, the process for transfering ownership is also a TON easier. Our SOS (Sec of State) used to require things like Notorization on the title, EXACT signature's as printed on title when signing off (may not sound like much BUT I guarentee ya, if your selling a car and you forget to dot an I or cross a T and end up having to apply for a new title and make the buyer wait 3 months for the State to reissue = you and your buyer will NOT be happy campers) and all kinds of crazy stuff = back in the 70's. That all changed and now, even the hassle of Notorization is a thing of the past, matter of fact, a Michigan title doesnt even have a place on it for Notorization and they dont care much about even exact sigs either. I also did several deliveries into your State of Customs I had built and can tell you first hand = WHAT A NIGHTMARE!! NO,, the States are not the same, not at all! I will also tell ya this,, there are numerous states that are also wayyyy easier than Michigan too.. South Dakota comes to mind.. You can take a vehicle like a Razor that is absolutely NOT "streetable" here in Michigan and hit up SD for an easy title. Quads/Three wheelers (talkin dirt stuff here) are not streetable here because of their undifferentialed rear ax but in places like Utah (if memory serves correctly) = totally doable. Years ago I did a TON of business with a Yamaha Shop in Canada taking advantage of the $$ strength and bought lots of left over inventory from them. I found out that California dirt bikes had to have a certain letter in their VIN that qualified them to be streetable for year around use. I also found out that all Canadians bikes (at least the Yamaha YZF enduro line did) had that matching letter. I did a TON of fairly lucrative business as a middle man in buying brand new crated "Enduro's" putting em together here out crate and then retailing them into California. Another one that you may find interesting here 40,, Michigan was (no idea if this still applies) for easy on converting actual full blown factory MX bikes for street usage. Toss on a aftermarket headlight assembly, a squeeze ball for horn, a bicycle mirror, an inline hydraulic brake light switch, a small battery (I also did numerous stator updates to give actual umph for those wanting a usable headlight or hand warmers added) and a low decible silencer and bingo,, you were riding 5 gear wheelies on your KX or CR500 with a genuine Michigan bike plate AND, the bikes title was totally tranferable and even looked like an actual, for real, no different than any other Michigan Title.. There is no comparison between States legal titling stuff IMHO 40.. It will be interesting now to hear of other varmints input here.. LOVE this thread!! Thanks for askin! Puc

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::clap2::dancefool:!!!!!! DO THIS MADDY!!!!!!!! DO EXACTLY WHAT MY FRIEND RANDY IS SAYING!! DO NOT GO TO ALLLL THE WORK OF TEARING IT DOWN WITHOUT DOING EXACTLY WHAT RANDY IS SAYING!! TAKE THE XTRA TIME AND MAKE MAGIC HAPPEN!! :dancefool::dancefool::dancefool: DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Randy,, whats your take on clutch advice for Maddy? Is there any chance that a MK2/V-Max diaphram clutch setup would work and if so, do you feel its worth the trouble? I have countless encounters with, from being ridden hard in the upper gears,, the OEM 83 clutch just not being up to the task = like they shoulda had another inch or so on the plate diametger and dropped that goofy 1/2 plate buffer idea BUT,, I am sure taking some pressure off the clutch by dropping the gearing some like your idea is all about would help there too = thoughts? EXCELLENT POINT BROTHER ON DOING THE TRANNY SWAP!! -
2008 Venture leaking fuel between 1 and 2
cowpuc replied to Kozubek's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmm, bummer... Dont know so much on the fuel pump,, I know on both my 1st Gen and on my R1 = I like to cycle the fuel pump by turning the kill switch on and off until I hear it slow down and finally stop clicking before I start em after they have been sitting a bit to make sure the bowls are full before I hit the start button. Not sure on yours but I got a gut feeling it should be the same,, like the fuel pump is only capable of pushing so many PSI and then it is not able to pump once the float valve closes.. You might try doing what I am talking about and see if yours does this.. Dont start it, just cycle the pump and see if its stops... I would say that if it cycles to a stop and then you try and cycle it again by going on and off with the key or the kill switch and it makes a couple "clicks" = the float valves are leaking.. No idea what the needle valves actually look like in your bike but I have replaced many of both types = the rubber tipped ones and the solid ones. Both of them are fairly easy to look at and see if they are ridged or grooved. Another possibilty would be if the seats are loose or, if o-ringed for sealing has gone bad = maybe getting fuel past the OD of the seat itself.. I had a Honda 350 drop a Valve Seat once when I was a kid and, for the life of me I could not figure out why that jug would not hold compression.. I finally noticed an odd color around the seat,, took the valve out and banged on the head and the seat fell out in my hand... CRAZY stuff does happen!! -
:lightbulb: You, my brother, are just FILLED with alllll kinds of GREAT ideas!!!! I will try and get some video of this as soon as the weather breaks ,,, dont gas melt plastic?

Sometimes I think Mom Yam should have just mailed those 1st Gens to us with the water pump line pre-dented but ohhh nooo,, instead of doing that she designed em so when a Semi went by a loaded 1st Gen sitting under a Highway overpass to wait out a massive thunderstorm and blows the poor thing over on its right side, the engine guard cuts a nice groove in it as Mr. Gravity proves his muscle...

cowpuc replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know I am a lop eared junk yardin hack of a varmint but if it was mine and knowing that I had to completely dismantle and start from scratch anyway, I would probably just support the under carriage of the motor so there was no way it could tip over as I was doing what I am about to explain,,, then I would get out my Saws All make the cuts in the destroyed frame so could just lift it off the motor.. Do it right, cut the neck and roll the front end over in the corner, pull the subframe and tank, cut the frame in front of the rear end and pull the drive shaft out of the middle gear and roll it to another corner, lift the back bone up and toss it in the scrap bin and have a gorgeous V-4 sitting on frame rails staring me the face just waiting to be remounted in its new home.. -

Sounds like all of us are on the same track here:clap2:!! Tip and I are avid Menards "Rebaters", our Sunday mornings after church are spent on our weekly "Rebate Dates" (sooo much fun!!!) and a few weeks ago Menards had 5000 lumeners on sale after rebate for 10 bucks, only allowed 6 though. I also notice that Harbor had some on sale also for 10 bucks but they were the 3500 lumeners.. We stopped on the way home on our Rebate Date and grabbed 4 of those (coupon limit) too. I LOVE LED lighting and have, over time converted our house over (except for the basement - ohhhh that basement.....) to all LED lighting,, VERY affordable even if replacing 65 watt recessed lighting if ya shop the bargins. GOOD STUFF MAYNARD!! Now all we need is some WARM weather to be able to hang the dad gum things in the garage!!! Sorry for the Maddy,,, getting to happen wayy to often by yours truly,,, sorry bout that..
