Probably has something to do with how corrosive and resistant to current flow any particular lop eared varmints body happens to be

Wasnt that an Ebay deal Maddy? If so and especially if you paid thru Paypal, I would take the pictures you have posted here and write a request to the seller asking for the money back or at least a workable splitting on the over all cost. Ebay is usually pretty good about standing behind the buyer but you really need to do the correspondence thru them so they have record. Just reread the original post in the Auction to make sure no disclaimers are in there and it is clear that you were buying a good frame and if it is so,, I would get my cash back and start from scratch.. -
I always loved that interchangeable Single Six too Boss, thought they were the coolest little shooter. I grabbed a new Ruger MK1 back then as my disposable $$'s were kind of short back in the 70's when I was lookin for 22 pistol for rabbit hunting but almost took the plunge on the Single Six instead.. Dont know if you guys remember the store called "Western Auto"? Back in that same time period, Western Auto sold a "clone" to the Ruger,, same deal with interchangable cylinders except about half the price.. That one really had me too but,, the no xtra cash got in its way too... Thinkin I shoulda been born to rich family,, I would made a great spoiled rich kid

The electrical panel for pain management of the nerves in my lower back/spine was no bigger than my Tuner and the battery in it was rechargable thru the skin. I kind of wonder if it has more to do with the application = 1 is for pain management which a dead battery in that application would just result in the return of the feeling that someone has built a camp fire on your legs, the other could result in someone dieing of heart failure with a permanent being the result

The Rep from Medtronics that I was talking to just before my install was telling me that they do not just replace the battery when it runs out and they gotta open ya back up. They have to replace the whole unit and, if I heard him correctly, they cannot replace it back into the same site where the unit with the tired battery was located. In my case, this being right below the collar bone on the left side. I think that probably meant also replacing the leads as I can imagine them sticking the unit down on my torso somewhere and then routing new cables up to the collar bone to plug them into the old leads. Might be wrong though as I know them Dr.s like to tinker and tweek just as much as us gear heads

I really like the 22 mag shooter the guy in the vid was shooting. I could own one of those and have a lot of fun with it. I have been keeping a close eye on the Savage .17 hmr semi-auto too. I know Ruger took a shot building a .17 hmr on their 10/22 platform a while back and couldn't get it to work but I am hearing good things on the Savage A17. I keep waiting for that one to drop below 250 bucks and then I will probably grab one to add to the chaos in my Gun Room .. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/798193982

Maddy,, I did a fair amount of scratch and dent insurance buy ups with scoots while in the bike business thru the years. One of the things I learned early on in that side of the buy/sell business was that bike frames are a strange critter in that it does not really take much to tweek em. Something I always did to check for frame squareness on a salvage, when possible, was to have another person ride the bike toward me while I laid down on the pavement and looked down the axis of the wheels and check alignment. Slight "Dog tracking" is really easy to see with the naked eye by doing so and discounting hugely for bent frames was not uncommon. Of course, another way of checking (and the best way) for the same is to have a naked frame and place it in a frame jig. If I were going to build on that frame and did not have a frame jig to double check the persons work (and, looking at those welds , I would definitely want to check the persons work) I would hang the forks on it and the swing arm w/ wheel so it was a "Roller" and I would at a minimum roll it and look down the axis of the wheels and check the best I could for proper alignment before I proceeded on into redoing the welding. You could also use the string method for checking alignment by working with a naked frame. Concerning the welds themselves. Like Randy mentioned, I too see a fair amount "Goose Poop" (a term welders in the Trades would use to describe a weld that definitely needed a redo) due to obvious lack of penetration. Even the welds that do not have the classic Goose Poop look appear (IMHO) to have a fair amount of undercutting which is also not good as undercutting often is where a new tear will begin. I think I would set up an Air Arc or grab a side winder (right angle grinder) and carefully remove that nasty stuff. If the frame shows promise as far as alignment goes, I would leave just enough weld as "tach weld" to keep everything in place and then after finishing cleaning it up with a grinder I would Mig in the bad welds. I would also do some gusseting to add strength but in the process of doing so, the puddle that I would be running hot at the end of my Mig gun would also be checking frame thickness cause I really don't care much for what rust can do to frame wall thickness.. -
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW brother ,, aint no way,, aint no how them varmints was gonna go working on my heart with me awake,, matter of fact - I am such a sissy that under normal circumstances I would prefer to have laughin gas even when a Dental Hygenist cleans my biters:missingtooth:!!! When I had my new tuner installed they rolled me into the land of Oz on a gurney, I chatted with the Rep from Medtronics (manufacturer of my Tuner) about the make/model of the device and had a brief discussion with my Cardiologist and then it was good night neverland.. Like you, I started off in the upper 90's of percentage of time my Tuner was controlling things and was warned about that having an influence on battery life. On my Medtronics Tuner the battery cannot be charged externally and to be replaced they have to remove the entire unit and install a new one in a different location. I was told that if my heart did not respond to the tuner by self correcting some that I probably would not see the 10 year usual battery life. I was kind of surprised by this because the Electric Pain Management Unit that they installed in me when I broke my back (kind of cool,, they run an 8 inch wire with electrodes clamped on it - kind of looked like multiple nocking points on a bow string - along the nerve bundle in my spine and attached that to a pace maker looking device that is installed under your skin) actually had a rechargeable battery in it that was recharged and adustable thru the skin. I am still not sure why that technology has not been applied to the Tuners (maybe it has in your case?) = maybe cause the lobby for return customers is stronger in the Cardio field then in the Neuro Surgery field Glad your back to health again brother!!! Until you strong enough and agile enough to be able to toss in the chokes on the nozzles, I wonder if you shouldn't take some of the :mo money:you saved by going with no anesteecha on the install and hire a neighbor hood kid to screw in those chokes so you can give those folks down south the White Wash they are needing and hoping for?

Yet another all out attack by terrorist has happened to our brothers and sisters in the great country of Israel. I know we have at least one member there and just wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your fellow statesmen as you deal with this latest rocket attack against your homeland. Indeed, Prayers Up for all suffering caused by the low lifes you have to contend with, may their acts of atrocity be dealt with swiftly and justice prevail!

Great thread Bay, thank you for crankin er up brother and THANK YOU Bossman Freebird for jumping in and sharing your take on the ups and downs of club life = YOU my brother are GREATLY appreciated!! Concerning the Face Book matter. I am probably alone on this but watching our Face Book page and Face Book in it's self leach long time members from here - many of them being dear to myself - was/is, has been heartbreaking. While I do have a Face Book account, I am actually quite apposed to Face Book as they tend to be kind of sneaky. One of the things that I have always loved about our site is the fact that we are a "for pay site". IMHO, the goofy little $1 a month club dues keep a TON of riff raff at bay (no pub intended Bay) as a lot of people actually do better when they got skin in the game and most creeps aren't gonna pay a dime to do their nasty deeds. Truthfully, another IMHO's, I do not think the getting old factor is that big of thing for loss of long time friends and a reduction in activity on the site. I think our involvement, as a club, with Face Book has been the number 1 cause of loss of activity here = IMHO, it has served as a dividing of the ranks. When our Face Book account first started, the question of linking activity there directly to the club house was broached. Unfortunately, that never happened and, kind of like in any relationship, no contact = loss of bonding and eventually, loss of interest. It would be interesting now that VR Face Book has been incorporated for a good spell to know whether or not those that jumped ship at the beginning are still active on the VR Face Book page. My guess (and this is just a guess) would be that our Face Book has also taken a hit as people find out what Face Book really is all about. I know one thing for sure, I sure miss the good ol days in the club when the halls and walls were echoing with the sounds of spirited livelyness.. I do join you though with shear excitement at the amount of new members coming onboard and LOVE the questions and life they bring.. Freebird,, are you open to questions and suggestions about things we/you may be able to do to assist the newbie"s in their plight to plant roots? If so, here may be something to think about,, maybe, maybe not. One of the things I have noticed on the newbie welcome page is the amount of responses that the new comers write to their being welcomed by yourself.. Long ago I surmised that your greetings were actually a computer generated greeting and that the newbie sign on may have thought you were actually talking directly to them. I may be wrong in this and maybe you are actually hand typing all those greetings? If so, my apology for misreading what I have always thought was going on. I often thought to my self what my feeling would be if I responded in kind to an open greeting and got no further response to my response, again IMHO, first encounters are often a make it or break it deal. If I am correct and the new member welcome page is set up with a computer generated "Hello and Welcome to VR", I wonder if, somehow, any responses to that initial greeting by the new member could be automatically forward here to the Water Hole so they could be exposed to those who dont make a habit of hanging out on the new member greetings page? Concerning the new bikes low sales.. I think you may see some HUGE changes in that as Yamaha continues to drop prices on left over 18's = LOTS of great deals out there!! From what I have been told by our local dealers, there is no such thing as a 2019 as Mom Yam has stopped production and, according to the folks here at one of our local shops, Yamaha may just be doing some more updating on issues regarding top end failures. I was told recently that a redesign on the lifters may very well be in the works = quite possibly Roller Lifters may be coming. IMHO, this should make the engine a lot more durable for long distance riding - especially for doing so in high temps. The word internally at at least one Yam shop is that 2020 could see this improvement. For those who love the air cooled, push rod V-Twin mode of CTFW, this could result in a substantial increase in being willing to lay out the long bucks for the big Yam:happy34:

Glad your home and doing well brother!! Take er easy and give that Tuner a chance to adjust to lop eared varmint lifestyle,, wont be long and you'll be back out howlin at the moon and chasing cars!! Concerning firing up the WWW and forgetting about it,, by all means, have at er BUT please make sure you got the full choke choke tubes screwed into the nozzles and that they are aimed directly at North Carolina,, you got a lop eared buddy varmint down yonder named Sly that is just itchin to see if he can blow the powder off his driveway with his 12 gauge shotgun!!

I have numerous SKS's, all bought during the old days of 85 dollar imports, and all of them came with the 1000 meter sights. Unfortunately none of mine were even close to being accurate within even a 12 inches at ranges over 100 yards.. Actually my 1911 is a far more accurate shooter than any of the SKS's I owned. I did have a Russian made Kalashnikov 762x39 AK that was a lot better shooter but I sold that at a Gun Show by hangin it over my shoulder and walking around playing with vendor's pistols with a cardboard "for sale" sign hanging out of it's barrel and tripled my money on it so it is longggggggg gone like a thousand hot dogs at a Puc Meet - Greet and Eat Meat outing.. Personally, I wouldnt put a lot of faith in judging a shooters accuracy by the type of sights on the receiver - IMHO, that would be like judging how fast a bike is by looking at the speedometer and seeing how high it reads:hurts:. Check this out you guys!! I just scarfed up 1000 rounds of 556 tracer's.. I purpose built my AR15 with the 1:7 twist so it matches the Military twist specifically built for keeping the heavier weight steel cored ammo mixed with a tad of tracers. Much to my surprise (and Tippy's too) instead of coming in plastic bags like my bulk 45 ammo comes in, it came in this AWESOME genuine U.S. Army issued Ammo Can still with it's original Army markings = DEFINITELY MAN CAVE MATERIAL BROTHERS!!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:
-
Sounds like a BLAST!! While I am unable to do any all day rides due to medical complications Tip and I would probably be interested if the Meet n Greet were found to be up on the Lake Michigan lakeshore closer to the Michigan/Indiana border as soon as the weather warms up.. Regardless of that though, I/we wish you nothing but the best in your pursuit to rally the lop eared varmint VR troops!

A couple of air box question
cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Most carbed scoots have some form of slide in them with a metering rod sticking out the bottom of it. That metering rods control the fuel flow coming out of the bowl, thru the main jet and into the emusion tube for atomization. Most bikes (IMHO) also have a metering rod that is notched for adjustability with a clip holding e metering rod in position - the adjustability is for fine tuning the fuel/air mix right off idle when the metering rod is lifted up out of the main jet. That metering rod is tapered so the more ya wick er up on the throttle, the further open the main is. The emulsion tube that the metering rod slides in and out of is made of brass and (at least this is my theroy), because on the Venture the slides are horizontal, the emulsion tubes can oblong/wear and allow more fuel to be pulled in thru the main and end up running fat and reducing MPG. Our V-4's have a non adjustable metering rod in them so what some of us shim the metering rod using nylon washers to drop the rods until I liked how it ran. I took my verniers and an old metering rod from a dirt bike and measured the distances from notch to notch to get an idea of how far really smart people who design this stuff thought it would take to get some change in fuel flow. I then went to ACE Hardware and dug around and found some nylon washers that were 10 thousandths (.010) thick and the right O.D./I.D.. I then used them as shims to drop the rods one "notch" of distance worth at a time till I got my good crisp throttle response back, gained over 10 MPG on the deal too.. Anyone reading this and thinking of playing with this stuff should be made aware that one of our members, Skydoc I believe, sells "kits" for doing what I am describing.. If you dont want to go thru the hassle of chasing down nylon washers like I did ya might wanna check with the Doc.. -
Sad day indeed, great loss for our community!! Arlen was a very talented individual and a big time forward thinking bike designer. If memory serves correctly he was the man behind the Victory Vision design. When they rolled the new Venture out at Americade at Lake George a couple years ago I looked at Tip and said that I could not help but wonder if Mr. Ness had gone to work for Mom Yam after Polaris had swamped the Victory line = sure had that "Arlen look" to it IMHO. He definitely impacted the bike design industry thru the years.. RIP Arlen, your talents and love for our sport will be missed!

Ya just gotta work on your quick draw technique some there '59!! Pour with left, draw with the right

Wonder if misalignment at the Pumpkin to swingarm connection could cause this.. If I had one that was doing that and knew the pistons were not sticky in the calipers, I would check the axle alignment while coming into the right side of the swingarm just for kicks...

cowpuc replied to Chaharly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Indeed Cha,, that Kevin The PrairieHammer is one super duper top notched Venture guru,, best of the best IMHO!! I am running two e6000 diaphrams at the time! This will be season number two on em and last I checked = PERFECT!! I used YamaBond number 5 for many years (have never bought a new set of Diaphrams - always just did the YamaBond coating routine) and gotta say,, IMHO the e6000 is far superior. Wayyy easier to find too if ya ever need to do a patch (not just on Diaphrams either - I had to roll one of 1st Gens all the over on the side of mountain in Utah to upright it and crushed one of my saddlebags in the process = that e6000, as shown in the vid, did a fantastic job of plugging a 2x4 in hole,, along with tie wraps of course) while out CTFW. I actually found the stuff at a Dollar Store for a buck a tube! Worth a try Cha,, definitely worth a try!
