  1. There pushrod motors and each push rod is opening 2 valves. I wonder if Mom Yam opted for tighter tolerances on the lifters to compensate for opting out of the more expensive roller design and is having issues with the lifters being tight in the towers they ride in. I have heard rumors that part of the failure problems is galling between the cam lob and lifter bottom which, in my guesstimation from playing with old HD's (before HD went roller) is a sign of lack of rotation of the lifter to maintain the convex of the lifter bottom as it operates on the face of the cam lobe. If this is what is happening, IMHO, getting hot is not gonna be its friend and galling across those surfaces can easily translate to lifter siezure which in turn could hold the valves open. A good indicator of this happening, again = IMHO, would be to take a peek at the snagged valves and see if its both of them that are being operated by a single pushrod that are staying open or if its just one. If its one valve then it definitely is valve stem/guide/seat/keeper/spring related somehow.. If both valves then it is entirely possible that the whole matter is still lifter related..
  2. Hearing ya brother and right there with ya,, have seen some crazy stuff like that thru the years too.. Had one a while ago I could not figure out,, all ohmed out perfect,, everything looked great.. Finally found I had carbon tracking on my plug caps causing very similar performance issues to what you are describing... That lectrical stuff can be very tricky to diagnose thats for sure!!

I'm with ya Patch, while some dealerships are VERY laid back and stand behind the customer 100% when it comes to getting warranties honored,, there is always the chance of bumping into a not so user friendly dealer if your out CTFW across America and have one of those ahhhhh ohhh moments.. Our new car, that we paid cash for so we dont have the luxury of having a Credit joint standing behind any claims, has a 10 year, 100k full warranty on it - I follow the OEM owners manual spec stuff to a "T" and keep receipts in the glove box showing exactly what oil/filter I have been using. I even use recommended brand of oil (they spec Quaker 0-20 full synthetic = I buy at Menards when on sale and rebate discount so 3 bucks a quart- got 80,000 worth of oil supply built up at this time ).. It's just simply not worth the risk doing experiments with oils and such when dealing with warranty honoring IMHO. To easy for some dealership to say SORRY - YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE BY THE BOOK! I know that many people think the dealerships/factory cannot legally not honor a warranty as long as you use a compatible/comparible product BUT,, I have seen wayyy to much of large corporations doing exactly that and saying see us in court where they KNOW they will wayy better Lawyers (they have a full time staff or Attorneys where you or I end up with bottom feeders) and know they will either win or just pay a small fine to support the legal industry.. Just not worth the hassle. Dont know if you remember this one or not but years ago when Polaris first introed the Victory, those first year bikes had MAJOR tranny issues. Polaris did finally make the design changes necessary (they outsourced the new design, cost em big but they got a good product for the $$$) after the first in house attempt was such a failure BUT, instead of standing behind the product they chose to blow off the intial buyers problems and lots of folks were stuck with junk that they paid big money for and watched the bikes become worthless even with full warranties still on em = a nightmare:doh:.. Here's a Wiki report on that disaster= it does happen: ""The 1999 and 2000 Victory models experienced serious transmission problems, even with bikes with considerably less than 10,000 miles. This has been corrected with minor revisions in 2001 and a complete redesign in 2002. But, according to Wikipedia, Polaris was aware of the problem with the false neutral transmission from the beginning, and yet – Polaris did not correct the transmissions in the 1999 and 2000 models and to date has not supported the owners of those bikes by replacing an apparently faulty design."""

Wisconsin is a great, fun place to be from,, gots lots of lop eared VR varmint buddies over in CheeseHead, White Wash (we got a club member here who lives in your area that manufactures Wisconsin White Wash (snow) and sends it all over the country - his names @Flyinfool = really a nice guy! Lots of others too.. Matter of fact, another one of our members hosts a fantastic club Rally at his place every year over in Viraqua (sp). Maybe check the club calendar or snoop around in the Water Hole a tad = think it's in June - dont quote me on that though cause my memory is all blowed to heck.. If you get a chance to make a rally or two, or five you should do so = LOTS of REALLY great varmints out there on the open road to and with!! By the way,,, on the new scoot my friend!!   12. Oh yea,, them lop eared little "D" plug varmints can be naughty thats a fact.. I have long since always amazed at how fast they can blacken if over choked and they really do not like being blackend.. I have also noticed how mine dont take kindly to gas additives like Sea Foam,,, a half a tank a gas with Foam in it and they get this sheen to their ceramics that has caused me issues too.. Tuned right, no Sea Foam and consistantly getting the choke off quickly and I have seen +20k on a set of plugs for the season.. A couple of over chokes (like forgetting to move the lever back to close the choke) and bingo,,, 5k and I got a fouler.. Sounds like ya got it happening Vick!! Hoping you and that fine running, front end loftin, Harley passin machine have a BLAST for the ride season thats peekin over the horizon at all us lop eared CTFW varmints!!
  13. While I know 5 years has got to be a LONGGGG time to sit and watch life pass you by, it's not even close to what Dan and I talked about many times (oft times for HOURS).. I SERIOUSLY think Dan is smiling down from Heaven right now and THANKING GOD that his brother did not get what it sounded like he was gonna end up with back during the beginning days of this crisis.. I would LOVE to meet Dan's brother after he is released and tell him personally how much Dan loved him!! Not a perfect outcome as I KNOW some of the history leading up to the whole mess and IMHO, he should not have even got the 5 BUT - the courts decided and it's done.. I am probably wayyy wrong on this PrairieHammer but it seemed to me that the months following the introduction of our VR Facebook page were months that were clouded with members who were regularly participating here on the home site priorly to that time, then many jumped over to our Face Book page and began participating there instead back here in the Club House.. Not even sure I am saying this right,, sort of like those folks who went Face Book VR left the home site here where we are talking about this and many very rarely or never did come back and even check in.. It would be an interesting study to see if there is any merit in what I am talking about, a pointless endeavor probably but one that would be interesting.. I know people are going to choose what fits their needs and I in NO WAY blame them for not having time to do both (I got 24 hours a day to live too and my choice of where I spend my fun time at the key board is, generally speaking, right here at home in the club house - I simply dont have time to do it all either) VR home and VR Face Book - I just have this gut feeling that VR Facebook actually created a division in the club activity and time together.. Make any sense? Freebird, if you get a second,, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this (or any other club members thoughts for that matter) if you would be willing to share them..

IMHO, while I do really think what Long Haul Paul and Yamaha (they donated the bike to the endeavor) is an amazing story and being done for a VERY worthy cause, I do not consider a person setting on a motorcycle while rolling its a wheels on a dyno even remotely close to that of 24 hour episode of CTFW,, two totally different applications of biking IMHO. I have been on both (been down the road on a bike and sat on a bike on a dyno while its wheels were rolling) and, again IMHO, there is a HUGE difference between the two. I do think an off shoot for a money maker for the cause may be for Long Haul to stick to the business of adding up road miles working toward his goal of gathering 1 million of them varmints and then take the bike, strap it on a dyno and let others pay to sit on the bike with its wheels rolling on the dyno for a fee while he is resting up for the episode of life on the road!! Either way though,, hey Long Haul,, if your reading this,, thoughts and Prayers Up for you brother and for your worthy cause!! LOVE YOUR VIDS AND LOVE WHAT YOUR DOING!! Best wishes on both!! Puc
  16. Not sure Deej,, may be worth a try but (and this is just another opinion) I got a gut feeling that a small fan like found internally in a PC would just not be powerful enough to do much good.. They work great for moving air across the cooling fins associated with devices found in PC's but I just am not sure about use in this application and would make a good "TESTING" apparatus. The reason I suggested using a small cooling electric fan off the cooling system on a car is they are 12v, produce good air movement and could probably be found in a junk VERY reasonably dollar wise. As far as blowing across the oil cooler,, ohhh heck yea,, good idea! On the other hand though, and consider this another opinion PLEASE, I think across the fins of the jugs would be much more effecient in that the air would be removing heat directly from the source (combustion chambers) that are designed for heat dissapation instead of trying to cool the oil which would then be relied on to find its way under the pistons and across the jugs to cool them.. Perhaps both would be a good idea for desert temp riding? I know one thing,, I have seen my share of Air Cooled V-Twins shut down for cooling out there in never land and they is one of the reasons that I was when I watched Mom Yam do the roll out of her new Touring bike line at Americade,, I was SHOCKED..
  17. Here is an interesting video put out by an actual owner of the SVTC that clearly addresses your question Zoey that the readers following this thread may find rewarding. IMHO, because the person producing this video is somewhat errant in his understanding of the bike (he is still thinking that Yamaha is going to come up with a 2019 model offering while even the Dealerships are stating there will be no 2019's with the next offering being an updated scoot being released for 2020, he is also advising owners to not follow their owners manual and instead encouraging them to jump to oils with modifiers instead of following factory specs which, IMHO, can backfire come time for warranty coverage in my experience) but, that said,, he does have the engine failure issues broken down to only 2 varified cases with all other cases being declared as internet folly and untrue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3-xwPNaZhw&feature=youtu.be
  18. COOL!! THANKS @Condor!! Jack,, maybe go to the actual auction page that shows the bike that we are speaking of, copy/paste the URL from that page back here. The issue that I am seeing is that we are being linked to the Auction houses web page that lists all upcoming auctions and I, for one, am unable to find the auction for the bike itself by scouring their upcoming auctions (if I could find it I would do this for you). If you could just go back to the auction, find the page that is specifically about that bike and copy/paste a link to that exact page I think the issue would be solved..

To a certain extent I agree with you Case, I have been personal friends with a Chief of Police in our area for many years (was even best man in his wedding) and know for a fact that his officers were under strict rules of engagement when talking crotch rockets = do not engage, use the radio. In the case posted though, the criminals were not riding the drug runners scoot of choice - the Rocket - but were performing that acts of terrorism on dirtbikes and quads. I counted 105 gangsters on bikes/quads involved in the terrorist act in the video of what we are speaking of in this thread. In our area, if you are putting together a "ride" that includes over a certain number of machines (I think it's 25 bikes) you have to apply for a permit to do so. Most larger group gatherings like this one was, require a police escourt to be legal. This give LEO's a chance to perform their duties to protect both the riders and the public. When I first started doing the Sturgis Rally out near you (early 70's) the rally was more inkin to a wild west atmosphere than what most people would experience by attending any rally today. The reason that things have changed so much is due to proper law enforcement = you do Sturgis now and there are at least 2 LEO on every corner of mainstreet - a place where in the past, Metric Bikes were hung and burned. It is now illegal to "pack" during the rally or even show "colors" of any form. Get caught with either and its a felony. IMHO, these bad guys are thugs, gangsters, terrorists of the worst type and should be handled as such.

IMHO, blaming an inadament object like a motorcycle for the stupidity of a group of terrorists activities is very similar thinking to that of the idea that a gun can come to life and kill people, wrong approach,, again IMHO. Anything can weaponized, even a stick that falls out of a tree and a gangster picks up and kills someone with it. The key to restoring law and order and bringing civilized life back to that area may be found in a simple refiling actions like these thugs took as TERRORISM and getting the Feds DHS/Local police involved in prosecuting those involved in the same order that our country would handle any other form of Terrorist activity = ship em to Gitmo and let em live on pig guts. This filth is a plaque on our nation and our way of life = no different than those who brought down the Towers IMHO.. VERY very very sad!!

Personnally I am with that lop eared Spider ridin varmint Marcarl though,,, my heart (and butt) is more inclined to see the 88 as the upgrade and that 88 of yours was gorgeous in all it's trimmings,, the sort of scoot that gives me the ol = me and Tip (riding partner over numerous CTFW excursions) could easily enjoy running the wheels off that puppy feeling:missingtooth: For an RSV type of CTFW lop eared though,, the one you kept is a gorgeous piece of work too though,, I too LOVE that color,, kinda grows on ya dont it!!   22. Yes it is good for us to know and remember my brother = DEFINITELY!! Attended our President's 1st rally after having got cleared of all charges of being an enemy spy last night. He actually spoke some about our countries commitment for our continuing alignment with and support of our friends and brothers in Israel and their way of life. His final thoughts on the subject was one you would have loved, something along the line of "and we are returning to - One Nation Under God" of which his Administration will always honor and support! Over 12000 Americans stood up in a standing ovation of that one!!:usa::usa:
  23. If it were mine I would be tempted to do some testing, a simple junk yard auto radiator fan temporarily hung and wired in on the bike would be suffiecient. Carefully hang it so it doesnt damage anything on the scoot but facing between the jugs so it blows air across the area there. Then take it out to a parking lot during high ambients and run it till it makes noises, turn the fan on and see if letting the fan run air across the jugs helps. If it does, take a close look at doing something about mounting a set of fans into the lower fairing and opening those fax loovers to engine can cool and quiet..

  25. But as the engine heats up, the oil can thin and that can cause noise.. At least, that has my experience with oils and hot ambient temps or sitting in traffic. That is the main reason that I always switch over to a heavier weight oil when running desert tempts on my 1st Gen,, its also "by the book" and recommended to make the switch in oil weight like that by Mom Yam (maybe check your owners manual and see if the SVTC is the same?). Matter of fact, if I dont change over to the heavier weight, one of the first places that loss of lubrication quality shows up on the 1st Gens is notchy shifting.. IMHO, being an air cooled engine in your case, keeping the oil cooler by running air across the cooling fins when in slow or stopped traffic could help in your case,, maybe,, maybe not..
