Thanks for the pic Chief! I will still grab a video and some pics down at the Yam shop next time I am down that way to help others reading this see where I was incorrect in calling those upper louvers fake and what changes Mom Yam did to those upper louvers and how she opened up the channel they control the air flow to make them functional like the lower 2 louvers on the bikes we rode in Sturgis. For the time being though and looking at your scoot (NICE RIG BY THE WAY!!), on the original design only the bottom two louvers had a passage way that they controlled air flow thru - this making them actual functional usuable non-fake louvers. The section of lower fairing above those two louvers was permanently closed off behind the 6 fake louvers above the 2 functional ones at the bottom with no way possible for air to flow thru it and into the riders cabin like the lower two louvers controlled (I know it was like this cause I chatted with the tech's out in Sturgis about how I thought those fake inlets appeared to be the start of an air induction system for a big block V-Max engine and or radiator shrouds for the same:hihi: and that I was shocked that Mom Yam would close them off keeping the air flow from running across the air cooled engine). On the original design, air passing thru those non functional horizontal fake upper louvers was actually ricocheted off an interior backing plate on the inner lower fairing behind those upper louvers with the air flow being controlled by the angle of the backing plate behind the louvers and the louvers serving no purpose other than cosmetic appeal making them fake. Matter of fact, the upper fake louvers (not talking about yours in the pic Chief, talking about what I saw at Sturgis) on the original actually got in the way of air flow IMHO and could have actually been at least partially functional and non fake if they would have been mounted vertically so they would have at least been directing air flow into the open area behind the forks/front wheel. I pointed that out to the tech's out there and they totally agreed with me but felt the designers probably thought having the louvers mounted vertically for partial functionality and then those 2 lower non-fake louvers mounted horizontally would have looked weird.. At any rate,, thanks for a good starter pic Chief,, glad to hear Mom Yam made the changes to assist in air flow thru the upper part of those lower fairings = I commend her as dealing with an air cooled bike, the scoot really needs to be able to breathe and get as much air flow as possible IMHO. I will definitely get a vid together and posted up showing the improvements between pre-release and released to the consumer bikes.. -

Oppssss, my bad Chief,, I had no idea Mom Yam had made changes to those lower fairings since we rode the bikes out at Sturgis,,, got my apologies Sir.. The SVTC's we rode out there before they were released to the public only had functional louvers on the very bottom of the louver sections = last couple of louvers to be exact. All upper louvers above the actual functional ones at the bottom that allow air to pass onto the riders feet were definitely non-functional cosmetic pieces with no air flow possible thru the lower fairing behind them - this was the same on both sides of the bike. Air movement above the actual functional louvers at the very bottom of the lowers that was designed to flow air into the area between the lower fairings was obviously dependent on the face of the fairing itself behind the fake louvers = the louvers themselves served no purpose in air flow for most of the lower fairings on both sides as they were designed to match (cosmetically) the lower funtional louvers and ran horizontally across the fairing housing that sat in = in order to assist in air flow toward the center of the bike they would have had to have been mounted vertically.. I had no idea that Mom Yam had changed that design before release and glad to hear she did Chief. You are correct, I do not own one of the new ones and wonder if you could provide some pics of the updated lowers on your SVTC that show their functionality. I am sure that our readers would LOVE to see what on earth we are even talking about:Bunny:.. If your not able to, I will take my camera with me next time I hit up the local Yam shop, take some pics (and maybe a short video) of the updated version of the bike like your talking about to explain the differences between the functional louvers like yours and what I saw at Sturgis.. -
You betcha my brother,, its always a pleasure to disturb your peace and quite Venturefar !! I actually knew your new best friend had nothing to do with your gas bottles and remember them well from as far back as the Rally in Oregon. I also knew that a lop eared iron buttin farrrr riding varmint like you would have advanced knowledge of carrying xtra fuel.. Pretty much a smart guy aint I THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT my friend!

I have used a couple quart oil jugs, wrapped in old socks (to keep em from getting a hole worn thru them from rubbing against the rack) tie wrapped under the rack that our motel (tent/sleeping bags/pillows wrapped in a tarp) rides on for years now and found this pretty handy, kinda wayyy old school dorky approach though. I think @VentureFar uses a much more modern approach with some kind of an aftermarket gas bottle made by a very well known outfitter, cant remember the name brand but I am sure, if I am correct on this, Neil will gladly jump in here and brag about it cause it's probably something that his new best friend gave to him for free and he loves to remind me of that kind of stuff:stickpoke:... I also have seen "sealed", one time use, bottles of fuel at Menards that are for exactly what we are talking about. Maybe something to check into if you have a Menards near you JB...

Spot on Corporal Newkirk, those prices been droppin like a rock for a good while now. Matter of fact, if I were seriously interested in a new left over SVTC I would grab a handful of cash and use that figure that you posted as a starting point for negotiating an out the door deal. There may be some truth to what has been posted on the net about Mom Yam holding off on releasing new updated model years of the line until the left overs are cleared out of dealership inventories. If so, that would definitely provide a platform for being able to see even better deals than the 19,995 left over SVTC's with a little negotiating IMHO. I think if I were in Dan's shoes I would go over my crunched SVTC with a fine tooth comb looking for even paint chips that would require the plastics to be replaced. Sure dont seem like it would be that hard to show an insurance company repair costs well above what a brand new 2018 SVTC replacement scoot could be had for now..

Castrol GTX has been a mainstay in motorcycling for many years Vick, I know a LOT of HD riders that swear by the stuff and have used it for many years. I also know that our own YammerDan used to swear by the stuff for use in his V-4's as I recall,, he and I used to go round and round and round about me using junk oils and him :stickpoke: me about getting on the GTX bandwagon . There may be a high mileage/Energy Cons GTX out there though that would probably not be clutch friendly,,, do you remember what color of container the GTX you used came in? You got a Dollar Store near you? Personally I have been using cheap Dollar Store 20/50 in tempts above 80 degrees for long time now and using the notchy shifting you mention as an indicator of it being time to swap in some new oil.. Maybe its time to just do an oil change in your case? As far as the rest of your scoots issues, that reads like a bike Tip and I would head west on and just add fluids as we CTFW on a 20k mile westward journey.. Sounds like the only thing missin in your case would be the stickers that hold the cracked plastic together so triple digits out across the open deserts for hours on end:hihi:. -
WOWZY WOW WOW WOW ,, THAT IS DISGUSTING BROTHER!! Very very glad you are ok Dan,, bikes can be replaced but man oh man,, riders have been permenantly offed for less than that = you done got blessed BIG TIME!! As far as the scoot goes, I would have the neck/frame checked for "tweeking" as its not uncommon for a goose neck to get tweeked in just a tip over if the bars are cocked against the stops when it hits. You could also check the weld joints at the neck and down the down tubes for any sign of cracked paint. Another thing that I would do is have one of my friends ride it directly at me in a parking lot as I laid on the ground and looked carefully down the axis of the tires = if its tweeked you will probably be able to see "dog tracking" going on.. What a shame.. Sorry to read this my friend, glad your ok but it is still hard to look at that big beautiful scoot laying on its side = they are MUCH prettier standing upright IMHO!

YEEEEE HAWWW VICK:thumbsup:!! Ain't nuthin that pulls top to bottom like a little 74 inch ol 83 Venture hittin on 4 baby YEEEEE HAWWWW = open da gate and get out the way,, Vick and his Venture are comin outa chute 9 :bikersmilie: Clutch eh,, read below... :sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that: BIG TIME:sign yeah that: and after I verified that my scoots crankcase wasnt contaminated with Energy Conserving oil, I would pop the lid on the clutch res and make sure the tiny little bleed back/return hole at the bottom of the res was not plugged. Just watch it carefully as you release the squeeze on the clutch lever and make sure its flowing fluid back into the res. Now that said, until we started riding our 6th 83 (Tweeksis - current bike) who's original owner put a complete Barnette clutch system in it, I never did have a good clutch that would hold solid in higher gears, fully loaded with two up, when the HP hit over 5000 R's.. I tried everything I could think of thru the years on the other 5 from dropping the 1/2 plate buffer plate in the bottom of the basket to shimming and even reloading with heavier springs.. I did do new plates a couple times too, they held for a short while but went right back to "normal" high HP slipping in a very short time.. IMHO, Mom Yam wayyyy underbuilt the clutch in our V-4's (should have an 8" clutch in it) and, and dont forget - this is just another opinion of mine, this may be why Mom Yam went with a diaphram clutch spring on the MK2 1st Gens.. Tweeksis's Barnette is a worthy piece, NEVER slips, holds ROCK SOLID right up thru when pulling hard on all 4 jugs fully loaded and two up.. The downfall of the Barnette setup, again IMHO, is that it moved the engagement spot on the perch from its normal, smooth, easy to feather 3/4 release spot out to a not so easy to feather (that little half plate had its function as a buffer and it really is noticable when its not part of the plate stack as designed by Mom Yam) engagement zone right at the end of the clutch throw. You could try picking up some heavy duty pressure plate springs and installing them, I think Skydoc sells those.. I never did attempt a basket swap over to a MK2 diaphram spring system (1200cc V-Max's use em too I believe) cause all my 83's would whoop anything on the road even with the clutch slipping but that might be an option and it would be interesting to hear your input of such an endeavor if you tried it Vick.. There,, I managed to your ear off again didn't I brother -
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! :dancefool::dancefool::clap2::dancefool::dancefool: My son in law called this morning and says,, DAD - GUESS WHAT - THE CALIFORNIA HI CAP MAG LAW HAS BEEN FOUND UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!:usa::usa: Apparently there is absolute truth to what he was telling me as some of the big vendors have already dropped California from their "Can Not Ship To These Socialist States" restrictions. My response to my son in law went something like this: THAT is OUTSTANDING in a genuine, gotta LOVE being a Constitutionalist kinda way!! So,,, what do you got laying around that's quick release Magazined that your gonna be grabbing mags for before the RUSH starts. His response: Ruger 10/22 but the rush is already started Dad, Brownells is backlogged from here (Sac) to your house.. Note to all interested in Hi Cap Mags (over 10 rounds, 10 Rounds has been the max in California),, might not be a bad idea to grab what cha need BEFORE this really goes nuts out there in the market place!! :stirthepot::witch_brew:

I think Patch is down at the library in his hometown searching for carb rebuilding info, got lost and is talking to his GPS trying to find his way out of the joint (we geezers get lost pretty easy).. Hey Patch,,, "North" is always up on those GPS contraptions,, just point the GPS upwards and then walk to the left and you will be headed west,,, we should all be CTFW West, West is GOOD!!!

:scared:and yet another WOWZY WOW WOW WOW:178::178::178::178::178: piece of shootin iron brother:thumbsup:,, while I agree with ya Jack,, not quite as as Fool's shooter (mainly cause I too LOVE custom work and that Fool definitely put the time into that sweetheart bringing it to FlyinFool spec) but still,, WOWZY WOW WOW WOW what a NICE shooter ya got there in it's own right:thumbsup:!! Lots of the WW2 guys that I shot dynamite with many years ago used those Mauser Action shooters. A lot of Sporterized pieces back then,, sort of an art form back in the day I would say. That Swede 6.5 was also known for some real accuracy too, 1/4 stick of dynamite hangin on the clothes line @200 yards = NO PROBLEMO.. Side note: I dont know much about the "Creedmore" or the 6.5x284, never had the honor of owning or touching either off but I wonder if the 6.5x55 Swede that you two lop eared lead tossin varmints own had a connection as a predecessor to the 6.5x284 or the Creedmore.. I noticed those at a big gunshop in Sparks Nevada once (see vid) and have since done some reading on em,, sounds like some amazing shooters too from all I have read.. KEEP IT UP GENTLEMEN,, you guys got the blood running strong this morning!!

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that: For the 2nd time in allllll of motorcycling history,, I gotta agree with Patch on this one I know for a fact that my 1st Gen hazards will work with key off and key in my pocket (ran out of gas a couple times and had to WALK = Tippy did this ). Of course,, an RSV could be wired differently but that really would make no sense to me either if it was..

Like desperado's waiting for a train,, those parts bikes are just sitting there wondering which one is going to get to go back out CTFW again Maddy!!! -
THAT is OUTSTANDING:clap2::clap2::dancefool:!! Congrats on a job well done and all the very best wishes to you Pic as you begin this new adventure brother!! Prayers Up for quick recovery on the knee's and hope you and your new SVTC get out and enjoy endless adventures together!!

Tonights weather = flood warnings are in effect :178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178::178: WOWZY WOW WOW WOW,, now THAT is what I am talkin bout = GORGEOUS SHOOTER FOOL = NICE JOB:thumbsup::thumbsup: Also, a HUGE thank you for the full report brother = THANKS JEFF!! Now I got a request,,, I would LOVE to see a close up of the finished barrel crown!! IMHO, "Crowning" makes or breaks a good shooter, almost as important as good bedding, and I would love to see what worked for you. Is it still 6.5x55? What does it like in bullet weight/configuration? What's the farthest you've shot it? NICE,, REAL NICE!!

Awe,,,, I showed Tip what you said Son-Shine and she said = "I always really liked that young man,, what a nice guy":missingtooth:... Personally, I like being married to that youngen,, she keeps my heart in order and me home at night... Good grief Son,,, I have no idea what life would be like without her and no plans to find out!! Short story Doug? When we moved into our new home here a number of years ago the guy across the street comes walking over, made intro's and then looked at Tip sitting on a porch chair and asked how many other daughters I had :big-grin-emoticon: She's a keeper that one!!

I built up a Sporty one time with a Patriot Defender stainless exhaust that had a cable controlled "snuffer" (speaking about snuffers,, anyone remember the cool snuffs on the 305 Honda Scrambler = COOL) and WOWZY WOW WOW WOW was that AWESOME for sound control (and performance). While I am at a point in life where I really appreciate stock OEM and the quietness that comes with them, I REALLY like the looks of what I am seeing/reading here DC.. I have bought thru National Cycle and had good luck with them. The ability to adjust volume at the grips would be pretty cool,, not sure about 600 bucks of cool though as I am sure a left over set of OEM's and/or DEFINITELY a set of Harley takeoffs could be had much cheaper.. Your call but either way, looking forward to some ,s and a ride report/review of the finished product when ya get er done!!

I couldn't click on this one fast enough Fool cause I was thinking EXACTLY what you were when I read "Pacemaker Exhaust" in the title ..

Right there with you Newkirk! Even though, as you and Don pointed out, with the 1st Gens there were a lot of newbie issues and, IMHO Yamaha did not step up to the plate with full recalls on and should have, I do think that times have changed and they cannot afford to not follow up with any needed updates/recalls on this one - especially since they are going toe to toe with HD. Mom Yam has wayy to much in the game to just let it slide. I still can't help but wonder if the 2019 time off and jumping directly to the 2020 models as they are doing won't end up seeing any updates they deem as necessary taking place on this one. Yamaha is a great company and has been the mainstay of many motorcyclist, both on and off road, for many years - I am sure they will do what ever is necessary to maintain their image!

WOWZY WOW WOW WOW SILV ,, you sure you wanna do that? If I got stuck with April 15th for a renew day I could never not renew cause the 15th is kind of a bad omen day here in the States (Taxes due and all that).. Personally I would just have to kick out the 12 bucks dues earlier and then ignore that 15th due date thing completely cause I gotta thing for bad omen's YOU are gonna be missed my brother but I get it.. Life definitely can throw some curves, interests changes and all that. Thank you for your contributions in the club thru the years my friend and, more than than that, for your friendship!! If you folks ever get out to Michigan be sure and keep an eye out here in the Water Hole for a ""Puc's Meet - Greet n Eat Meat"" as you KNOW you folks will ALWAYS be welcome here!! May the trail before you be filled with nothing but great adVentures overflowing with tons of 's Silv!! Puc

:sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::sign yeah that::clap2::clap2: Especially the ""Cowpuc is wiser than he looks"" part:Bunny2:! I guess I underestimated what a bold attempt at staying young at heart could do for a person and never knew that doing so could actually effect ones outward appearance to the point that even though he is bald and grey bearded - he could still look like a kid = THANKS VICK (ya gotta LOVE how I spun that one my friend ).. Indeed,, we could easily sit by the camp fire till the cows came home swapping tales of CTFW and life like a couple old cowboys from days gone by :biker:. Vick,, I really enjoyed the depth of your essay. A lot of it applies to something that happened to Tip and I recently and a discussion that ensued as a result of that happening: We had the privilege of getting to go see and hear the President of the United States speak in Grand Rapids Mi. We had a GREAT time and were amazed at the amount of people, young and old, who packed the arena where our countries President spoke:usa: - it was truly a beautiful thing. Of course, as normal for any adventure such as this, there were plenty of anti American protesters, both younger and older geezers with grey hair to match that of my own, who were waving flags of support for everything from "We Demand Socialism NOW" to just plain white signs with "America Never Has Been Great" painted on them but we didn't have any issue's with that crowd,, until we got back to Trooper (our brand new car) who was parked in a secured parking ramp that is. When we got back to Trooper I noticed right away that the anti American way of life crowd had found a way to make yet another way to declare their demands to the world at large. There on Troopers backside was a freshly carved symbol of what Socialism can and does, in its final outcome, produce = total disrespect for ones self and all things outside of that. Trooper had been "keyed" and also fist punched as there was a nice knuckle dent on his pretty blue body. On the way home Tip and I got talking about the movie "Saving Private Ryan" and I reminded her about one of the last lines of the movie where Captn Miller whispers with his dying breath into PVT Ryans ear = "EARN THIS - EARN IT". I was telling her of how life had taught me the importance and depth of that little line. That being that, IMHO, if a person doesn't earn his lifes rewards thru hard work, getting up when one has fallen, sheer wholesome ingenuity and taking responsibilty for ones own actions that what ever they end up with for "free" (Socialism) aint worth a plugged nickle and, as a matter of fact, getting life handed to ya for free actually destroys a persons self worth and dignity. Self respect, respect for others and respect for property - either your own or others - is actually a byproduct of having earned ones way thru life .
