Now I am new to Face Book (have had an account forever but never really participated as I never really understood how to use it = special thanks to my son for helping me with that) so I am far from one to advise ya Sly but, if memory serves me, only members in good standing here get approved for access to our VR page on FB.. @Prairiehammer would be the one to answer questions about signing up and all that as he is our Bossman over there.   2. Possibly just another one of those cases of "you can't believe everything ya read on Face Book" thingys brother .. The burns those varmints over there are showing do look suspiciously like someone accidently backed into a hot wood stove on a cold winter morning trying to warm up!! If actually true though and folks do experience unmanageable heat from that rear pipe, I do HIGHLY recommend wrapping the pipe in pipe wrap to keep from getting burned like we old schoolers used to do,, it works and, IMHO,, LOOKS AWESOME!!

Turns out that there are numerous incidences of new owners now of the 3rd Gen SVTC feeling the heat bad enough on that left side that you mentioned so bad its actually burning their legs!!!! There are numerous pictures there on FB (UGLY - dont look if ya got a weak stomach) of the riders left legs getting hot enough that that pipe on the left rear actually cooked em - to the point of leaving them blistered and scarred!! One guy even got it so bad he ended up having to go the hospital,, nasty stuff!! I did read there where someone made the suggestion of wrapping the pipes like we use to do on our Sporty flat trackers. That actually is what I would have recommended had I of found that on FB at an earlier date.. Your observations were SPOT ON VentureFar and I just wanted you to know that your time, effort and professionalism in doing the testing was and is GREATLY appreciated!! P.S. - you can share this with your new best friend who has you do the testing if you would like = kind of a job recommendation for future opportunities as it were.. The world of motorcycle ownership and riding NEEDS straight shootin, call it like it is, honest reporting like you do brother!!!
  4. Not me, my son got me orientated on Face Book usage and I think I done got addicted... I been really having fun catching up on our VR Facebook page reading (AWESOME) but got side tracked posting family pictures on my sisters FB (that stands for Face Book = learned that from my son I did LOL) page and chatting with her for few hours over there..... Taking back all the bad stuff I heard and thought I knew about FB,,, its actually WAYYYY COOL!!! That @Prairiehammer is doing a BANG UP job on our page over there = THANKS KEV!!! Also finding out that FB is a GREAT way to spy on the kids
  5. ,,, Larocco's Leap!!!!! I LOVED racing Red Bud and LOVED doin Larocco's Leap = the flight time off that puppy was INCREDIBLE = almost as long as jumpin off the Dune tops at Silver Lake!!!! Gotta admit though,, I have ridden a few two tracks and snake trails on my 1st Gens thru the years but never had the konies to even imagine shootin off Larocco's Leap with one of em,,, ya got a lot of class @Dano and more nerve than I would ever have!!
  6. I grabbed a light bar for a Honda Shadow and ran it on a couple of my MK1 83's for a long time. It fit under the headlight and its mounting screws lined up perfectly with the screws where the two front cowling halves meet. I think I still have that old light bar around here somewhere if you would like measurements off it to double check with current light bars available.. I am almost positive it was originally for a Shadow 750.. Got it from a Honda Shop that was going out of business, it was stuck in their "bargin bin" and I grabbed it.. It worked GREAT, was fairly easy to wire up and all that but this was at a time before "LED"s and the increased draw on that sissy stator Mom Yam stuck us Mk1 1st Genners with didnt care much for running the spots full time so I had to run them selectively.. Other than that, they were AWESOME on the 1st Gen (IMHO) and looked really cool too (also IMHO)..

  8. Yeah,, when working in gas fumed areas it's probably best to not lite the torch, just use the tip of the torch tip, unlit, to tap on the heads of the screws :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  9. :sign yeah that: Sometimes even taking a smaller sized brazing torch tip and placing the flame right in the center of the head of the screw/bolt/allen head and heating it a little will help in getting the steel to release from the aluminum... The absolute WORST nightmare I have seen due to what Corporal Newkirk is talking about here has to due with that happening with Spark Plugs in Aluminum heads = NIGHTMARE waiting to happen!!! I had a friend who was bragging to me about not having to swap out plugs for over 100k miles.. To which I replied,,, all good till ya gotta swap in new plugs = talk about inviting Murph to your birthday party!!
  10. :sign yeah that: Right there with Bongo!! Matter of fact, I have actually broken a couple of those really cheap handled HF "T" allen handles.. After that experience, if even needing to put questionable torque on cheap HF "T"s, I just slide the box end of a matching sized box/open end wrench up the allen shaft to the handle, then slip another box end over the open end end of the wrench attached to the allen shaft and use it to apply torque to the T handled allen.. Works great.. If you do break a handle on one of those cheapy T's dont throw the remaining allen away, just take a dremel cutoff wheel (or bench grinder) and cut the end of the allen off that the T is molded around. Now you have an extra long straight allen that you can use with a small hand held impact wrench (should be one of those in EVERY tool box in America IMHO). You simply use a matching socket size to the allen on the 3/8 drive of the impact, that combination works AWESOME for slave screws like we are talking about...

  15. AWESOME PIECE OF WORK THERE SUDS !!! You and your 12 year old daughter do some fine wrenching (please tell her ol Grampaw Puc said he's proud of her and to keep up the good work spinning those wrench's:backinmyday:)!! Hope the two of you now get to spend some time out CTFW on that gorgeous road rompter and have fun making even more wonderful endless memories together as a Dad and Daughter team = aint nothing on this planet more better than that IMHO. @suds, after wearing out several rear tires thru the years on my 1st Gens I finally caved and spent the big bucks on an E4 dual compound and WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = I have been impressed!! The ONLY thing I am thinking would be a real issue with having gone E4 is that I highly suspect that in the event of a flat rear tire while on the road, a tire changer would be required to remove the E4 (aint no way that puppy is gonna be "spooned" off the rim like I customarily do).. WOWZY did my E4 go on hard!! Other than that, I really truly do believe that Dunlop was not to far off when they said "this tire will go ocean to ocean shore 3 times before needing replacement"!! A more worthy tire I have not found!! You and that wrench spinning precious daughter of yours ride safe out there and enjoy my brother!! Puc
  16. I get that Andy and if I hadn't rebuilt a couple of both mechanical and vacuum operated carbs thru the years I may also have assumed exactly the same thing. Just remember when thinking about figuring out how to unstick the throttle on your RSV that the only means for the carbs themselves to be part of the stuck throttle issue is if the bushings on the butterfly in the throat of the carbs are stuck and, even if that is the cause of the stuck throttle = even those may come free with just a squirt of lube on the external shafts. There is nothing internal on the carbs that are mechanical = all things related to the function of twisting the grip other than those bushings are external of the carbs themselves so the stuck throttle has to pretty much be cable, grip assembly or linkage related. Now if we were talking about cracked diaphrams, stuck slides, plugged jetting or stuck floats so the bike was either getting to much or no fuel = that would be a different subject and would be cause to possibly have to remove the carbs for cleaning. Make sense?

  18. OUTSTANDING Tuffy!!!! Maybe stick the one you wanna sell in the club's classifieds!! Aint NOTHING like a shooter that fits/feels good in the hand!! I got my eye's open for good deal on a Beretta 92F because of EXACTLY what you are saying here.. Love my 1911 but x100 the "feel" of the Beretta and the fact that it comes to perfect natural point of aim for me.. My 1911 is close but shows pointing high with no site pointing in my case...   20. 1st things first,,, :group cheers: ANDY!!! Now some quick thoughts about your carbs. Even though your RSV (one name for your scoot) - 2nd Gen Venture (another name) - Royal Star Venture (yet another name) or The Slower 2nd Gen (what some of these lop eared 1st Gen club member varmints may refer to the 2nd Gen as ) is a completely different machine than the earlier 1st Gens, it is still a CV Carbed bike. Knowing this but having never worked on one, I have a hunch that your stuck throttle has nothing to do with messed up or gummed carbs. Because the slide movement in the carb is operated soley by vacuum and the throttle operates mechanical linkage that opens and closes a butterfly in the throat of the carbs, I would be suspecious that the stuck throttle is caused by external means. If it were mine the first thing I would do is remove what ever covers I had to to enable me to see the cable ends/linkages on the carbs. Then I would twist the throttle back and forth while looking at that area and see if I could see detect movement at the throttle cable end where it attaches to the carb linkages. If it is obviously trying to rotate the receiver on the carbs (known by seeing the throttle cable tighten and loosen while you rotate the grip) but unable to do so, I would start by spraying the carb linkages real well with some WD40 or other light weight spray lube = dont be conservative, spray it good. After that, take a long screw driver and try to lightly and gently lift up on the reciever some while turning the throttle - careful not to put to much pressure on stuff - you dont wanna bend anything. If the throttle is stuck due to the throttle plate bushings being dry, I would see if I could get to the plates thru the throat of the carbs with a long screw driver (be careful here too cause you have to push the slide open to get to the throttle plates - if the slides are sticking and you push on em to hard they can crack = spray them with a little WD too). If there is no movement down on the carb end of the throttle cable, I would be suspecious that the throttle cable or the throttle assembly itself is locked up. If this is the case, I would remove the screws up on the grip that hold the throttle assembly together, disassemble the throttle, pull the cables out of the assembly and push some WD40 into the cables with a cable luber and try to free up the cables that way. Once I got the throttle working as it should I would pull the diaphram covers on the carbs, remove the slides, open the drains on the carb bowls, push carb cleaner into each carb with a syringe filled with carb cleaner until the cleaner flowed from the metering rod emulsion tubes, shut the drains for a day or so and let em soak. Rehook the syringe, open the drains, pull the cleaner from the bowls one at a time, redo until the cleaner flowed clean back into the syringe, when its clean - refill the bowls with good clean fresh fuel pushed into the bowls with the syringe and pushed in so it too flows a little from the emulsion tubes. Slip the diaphrams/slides back in and hit the starter - no choke - to see if she fires off the fuel in the throats of the carbs. If it does and burns off the fuel, choke it and see if it will stay running. I would do all of this BEFORE rebuilding the carbs in attempt to assess the bikes condition before I put a bunch of time and effort and $ into carb rebuilds = I dont like surprises... Make sense?

You trouble makers would probably be the first two in the wrong line for hot dogs and end up having to live on road kill if I weren't here
  22. BEAUTIFUL as always Vaz!! Totally and 100% WOWZY WOW WOW adVenture there brother!! That Hot Dog rig makes me cry for summer !! Thanks my friend for sharing!! I got out this morning for some ride time too.. Because the Easter Bunny @Flyinfool doesnt leave eggs when he comes to visit but chooses WWW instead, I ended up having to do my ride time in the seat of my new 4x4 truck.. Also because his visit was sort of a surprise and I have already got the blower removed from the tractor and detached the plow from our new truck, I had to squish the foot of wet, heavy snow eggs Fool left by going back and forth up and down the driveway so we could get Trooper out of the garage... LOTS OF FUN and a GREAT RIDE!! Speaking of Fool,, ya might want to be careful of what you wish for. I happen to know (I am invested pretty heavily in this) that he is steadfastly working on some high temp WWW that can withstand Arizona tempts ...
  23. Ya might try sliding a box end wrench up the shaft of the allen on those cheapy HF T-Handles BlueSky. Then hook the box end of another wrench onto the open end end of the wrench that is on the Allen to give you some extra UMPH pulling area for snapping the bolts loose.. If that dont help, you could always cut the T-Handle off and place the long shaft of the left over Allen into a socket attached to a Hand Impact. Give er a rap and those stubborn Slave Bolts will pop right out!
