  1. Just wanted to post a quick note that I sent to my brother as we are walking out the door here to pick up Birdie.. This is in response to some of the discussions that took place over my visit with Doug (my lil brother who you are all so faithfully praying for): Little brother, remember yesterday when we were talking about that feeling of "wow,, the world didnt stop going on after we are shut in for periods and then go outside and see people going about their everyday business"? The thought occurred to me that I wonder if that feeling happens as a result of brushing with, having a momentary contact with the entrance of the Valley of Death. We know that, as people who have accepted Christ, when we die we are instantly part of the Great Cloud of Witness's and when we are fully functional here below we dont tend to think about how close we all are of taking the short trip thru that Valley - maybe when we brush past the entrance into that short but real Valley God is giving us a taste of reality of the fact that all things here below are gonna be ok and that He is going to continue taking care of our loved ones even when we are gone.. What do think? I love you Champ, always have! YOU are the best little brother a big brother can have!!
  2. A HUGE thank you for ALL the thoughts and Prayers Up on my Brothers behalf!! He is resting peacefully this morning. We are on our way now to pick up my Grandson as my Daughter and Son-In-Law are closing on their new house today. We are going to have that 2 year rascal for the week while they move in. Just an FYI to all that if I seem a little out of breath and vacant for a tad around the club house that dealing with my brothers struggle and having my Grandson (God's way of maintaining some form of around here?) too may be hard on this geezer.. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR THE PRAYERS UP!! Group Puc
  3. After being given the 5 year prognosis and fighting hard for 8 years in his fight with Cancer, our family has been given notice that my little brother is in the 2 week window. Doug is a true blue fighter (always has been,, even as a kid 3 years younger than I he could hold his own against his bigger brother's ) and continues to fight with everything in him against this horrible stuff. He has chosen to pass at home in his bed, surrounded by family (has 4 girls and a wife, Mom, and 6 siblings there with him). Hospice is doing a good job of keeping him comfortable (nice way of saying keeping the Morphine flowing). While the fights not over till its over and our hopes/prayers are that God blesses Doug with total healing, God's perfect will doesnt always align with our wishes and God is the one who ultimately decides when to call His children home. Doug accepted God's free gift of eternal salvation found in Christ alone and has lived a fruitful life due to this and is fairly well at peace with facing death due to this. He and God are square but, of course - I don't wanna lose my only little brother but also know how this all works and am there for him either way (gonna be hard without him but I'll see him again soon when it's my time). If you have a second and don't mind,, please send Doug/us warm thoughts and if your a brother/sister in Christ please lift Doug and our family up in prayer as we work thru these days.. Thanks Puc n Tip
  4. Yeppers,, and then if you toss in clutch fiber clutch plates and constant shearing taking place if the engine and tranny share fluids,, things really get more complicated as to what oils you can get away with using long term = especially if talking touring thru various environments (sitting in traffic in Vegas at 112 degrees creeping forward occasionally so you cant shut the bike off and then over the Rockies in an ice storm on the same day) that happens frequently on touring bikes.
  5. Seeing your cause for edit VAz,, I aint never been much for takin from them there lop eared grammer cop varmints (be they self imposed or not) so simply put,, I still think learning to ride nekid and occasionally reaching back for the water bucket hanging on the side of the scoot to dump water over ones nekid body is definitely the way to go in surviving that glorious desert heat while out CTFW .. Knowing you probably aint about to do that, I want you to know that I really appreciate all your effort in keeping us VR varmints sane throughout the long winter we just suffered thru.. Your amazing ride stories and 's here have been greatly appreciated and your efforts will be paid back 10 fold as our 2019 ride season up north unfolds my brother:thumbsup:!! Hope to see you folks soon at MD, if we are able to make it (still got a HUGE wedding to go thru) and you are too, where - even if it be by other means than ,, we shall at least have a chance to once again!!! Puc
  6. Ahhh yes,,, definitely a step in a totally different direction for the Polaris Indian model Big Twin Line. IMHO, it looks like an overhead cam, chain driven top end engine similar to a Polaris Scout motor on steroids.. At first I thought maybe Polaris had took some direction from HD's now defunct V-Rod (good power, good motor) but seeing this picture says no, definitely not V-Roddish.. If this is whats coming it is definitely a step in a different direction then that which we were told Polaris was headed with their Indian repop while out at the unveiling at Sturgis back in '13. Their intent then was RETRO with push rod air cooled being their thing. This is DEFINITELY off that path. Our local Polaris dealership still has left over Indian models all the way back to 2015, apparently they didnt sell well. Hopefully this new design gives them a boost in sales as, like @djh3 mentioned, management at Polaris probably won't let their Indian's idle for to long and then, POOF,, they'll shut em off just like they did the Victory (which was a shame IMHO).. Our local HD shop just swapped owners and they had an Open House today. While down there chomping on Hot Dogs I watched em roll out a Road Glide (fixed fairing) that looked like a Street Glided (no trunk) model of a Road Glide.. Not being able to see the back side of the Spy Photo (THANKS DON!!), I wonder if this new model of Polaris is that theme - like Mom Yam is doing with the Eluder,, or maybe Polaris will do both models,, with or without the trunk.. I know that the Street Glide idea has been a HUGE hit for HD and their top seller of a long time.. Exciting and interesting times for motorcycling for sure!
  7. Pretty cool!! I cant help but wonder if Polaris is headed this way due to EPA Regs as it seems, IMHO, that most of their followers tend to follow the HD crowd road of enjoying the Air Cooled scoots and chasing a piece of the HD pie. The guy that used to own our local HD dealership was telling me that that is the main reason that HD took the risk of loss of sales and did the water cooled heads routine = to be able to comply with EPA regs with the more efficient water cooled engine. Polaris still does not release actual unit sales numbers so there is no real way of knowing just how many of their Indian line they have sold but I wonder if this new one will increase their following.. VERY INTERESTING for sure Don - thanks for posting this!! I tried to find a spy photo of the bike,, nothing seems to be coming up in google. Got a link to one brother? Would LOVE to see it!
  8. I suppose you know that now that you posted the above, some lop eared very observant varmint is gonna come hopping along (Easter Sunday is only 2 days off) and ask you and Carl what kind of plotting,, I mean,, plans did you come up with to trick,, I mean invite us normal club members into getting in involved with.. That said,, I too would be curious of same. :stirthepot::stirthepot:
  9. Looks good Dancer,, I am definitely seeing a float valve in the pic = good on ya.. Any chance you tested the floats for saturation by floating them in a bowl of fuel before buttoning the carbs up? I dont see new floats so curious how they looked/floated.. Also any chance that the left over washer was suppose to go under the float valve body to seal it against the carb casting? I know on some carbs the manufacturer uses such and missing that will not only mess up the float height adjustment but will allow fuel to actually seep around the float valve body and into the bowl.. Make sense? Same goes for some mainjet applications.. Miss a washer/seal and fuel can flow around the body of the main jet allow fuel to by pass the orvice of the main, IMHO of course..
  10. IMHO, triple check the frame connections where floor boards and the like bolt up.. Look for disfiguring at weld joints and the like. If you find a dented/tweaked spot = instant total = new bike.. Better to find it now than have it discovered after the fact brother! All the best in healing fully and full recovery of your scoot!! Puc
  11. :scared:WOWZY WOW WOW WOW Duey = NICE SCOOT !! Definitely brings back some EXCELLENT memories of days gone by!! JUST BEAUTIFUL!! Thanks for sharing that one brother!! Back at that time a guy riding a V-65 pretty owned the highways, wasnt a whole lot around that could keep up (talking production vehicles) - definitely a HUGE advantage if/when on road problems with other drivers arose = someone dont like bikes and starts with the games = bye bye time.. PLUS,, wickin em up is SOOOO MUCH FUN .. I still giggle when people say,, "how can you stand to ride something like that = its a ticket getting machine" to which I always reply - "just cause you got all those ponies under you doesnt mean you have to use em all the time and I would rather have em sitting there waiting for me to call em into action than twist the throttle and have no one home to answer the call" = strange breed we V-4 lovers are I guess . Also noticing the rest area your sitting in,,, also my kind of joint = I always called em quick stop camp grounds GOOD ONE DUEY = THANK YOU FOR SHARING!! BEAUTIFUL BIKE!!
  12. I could Tuffy,, I DEFINITELY COULD Indeed, those V65's were AWESOME scoots!! Kind of akin to the Suzuki Madura on steroids... Fun bikes!! Then, if memory serves correctly, along came the V-Max and Honda and Suzuki calmly and regretfully bowed out of the early muscle bike scene Which brings up another itchy palm point,,, all this about V-4's has my trigger finger twitching for a 1700cc V-Max... I know it won't hold a candle to Maggie but still,,, a 180 horse power modern day, injected V-4 would sure enough put a on this geezers mug! Thanks alot @Du-Ron,, ya done got me dreaming again:thumbsup: By the way Tuffy,, thanks for your service in doing all you did to keep America free brother!!:usa:
  13. Oh yeah,,, I TOTALLY understand Bay = GREAT POST IMHO!! ,, just glad you didnt post one with a Wanted Poster on it
  14. Hope the didnt chase that lop eared advice seekin varmint @Chaharly off (sorry bout that Cha)... Another flaw of mine,, didnt mean nothin by it Cha,,, just got carried away as usual:whistling:
  15. What do mean wordy,,, didnt you notice the video camera hanging from my shoulder and camera in the pouch on my hip in the picture I supplied,,, no words,, just a pic,,, that shoulda counted for something here brother :rasberry::rasberry: Love you too Sly!
  16. Yeah,,, I know,,, it's another flaw in my otherwise completely innocent, introverted and normal personal identity Sly. I had kind of a rough childhood, left home at 15, lived on the streets, ate out of dumpsters, figured out nothing was free in life before I was 16, saw a lot of stuff that no kid should be exposed to (close friends killed) , met the Lord, He and I hammered my trajectory, got a job, bought my 1st House with cash before my 19th birthday. Out of all that rough beginning also came the fact that life could be way to short and that I needed to document what was unfolding before my very eyes. Got involved in takin. The introduction of the digital camera's/video was like a HUGE calling card with my name on it. After that happened I would do things like taking over 12 thousand (not a typo) pics every time we set out for a month or two of CTFW or at a Graduation or what ever in an attempt to get a few worthy pictures. That habit slid me into finding great joy in snapping away. I dual Majored as a non traditional college student when I went back to school in '93. As well as a B.A. in Business Management I also ended up with a CIS (Computer Information Systems) degree which both were a valiant attempt at teaching a completely old school care free unorganized hippy to be at least becoming somewhat organized. It really did not work but some of it did in that I did manage to go external on P.C. hard drives and now have more than 1 = 1 terrabyte externals full of pictures/video's = how I know where to find the pics. Tippy was also plagued by a similar disease as I in my love for pics and, 40 years of being married to me, spending her earlier years of being a stay at home Mom for our 4 kids and home schooling them ended up with endless family pics in photo albums with the contents of pre-digitized photo's. We also have stacks of VHS home videos from those years too.. Short answer brother,, yeah,, I pretty much dont do a lot of nothing with taking a ,, or :photographing: or sometimes even :photographing:... I know you dont care much for long answers so I made that as short as possible Sly.. How'd I do? Puc
  17. Yep,, I too have used Haul Bikes on several occasions. The last one was a few years ago when a chap from California bought my 70 HD Cop bike. It shipped from my house in Michigan to California for under 500 bucks. If you do a little digging you can find independents who will ship cheaper, have done that several times thru the years too, but if you do that there are a lot of unknowns to deal with. Things like people showing up with open trailers come to mind. While they can lean toward taking a little more time to get to the haul (their prices are held down buy hauling numerous bikes to numerous locations IMHO), a professional Trucking Company like Haul Bikes is usually more secure. Another way that I have also used is to palletize the scoot and work thru a Trucking firm. That way is wayyyyy cheaper in my experience but a lot of the trucking companies require a crate being built. It's not that difficult to build a 1x2 crate and shrink wrap the thing but ya gotta also have the means of hauling the palletized scoot to a terminal. I did numerous machines like that and shipped for a couple hundred bucks and made a few bucks on charging my customers for the crating but it's a lot of hassle. On the cop bike to Cali the scoot sold with both types of shields, bat wing and classic. I ended up leaving the classic attached along with the original trunk. Then I grabbed some carpet padding, wrapped the bat wing in it, wrapped that in cardboard with shipping tape, then when the Haul Bikes got here and after they tied the scoot in their rig I took the bat wing and used cheap ratchet straps from HF to tie the bat wing onto the seat of the bike so the buyer could quick release it when he took possession. Haul Bikes was good with that and charged nothing extra.. Make sense Cha?
  18. Plugged tank vent causing to run lean as the tank forms a vacuum? Plugged carb vents doing the same? Plugged gas filter? Pinched fuel line? Fuel pump going south? Sounds like she might be starving after running for bit to me..
  19. IMHO, all of the Air Cooled scoots I have owned/ridden over the years were obviously and quickly observed as being air cooled due to the cooling fins surrounding the combustion chamber. Those fins were fully functional as a means for acting like a heat sink and discharging heat being produced by the combustion taking place in the chamber. None of my early Honda's or HD's had "exchangers" or oil coolers for actively cooling the oil until I ended up with brand new Shovel Head Low Rider which came with an exchanger right from HD - the exchanger was an aftermarket unit though and obviously a "test" on HD's part to see if this would help in displacing engine heat. Shortly before I got out of the business HD was working on oil spraying the under sides of the pistons on their Big Twins along with Water Cooling the exhaust valves in an effort to reduce some of the heat dissapation required by the typical/normal "fin" design that has been around since the early 1900's.. IMHO, even that RnD is actually based more on meeting EPA regs and conforming to them without having to go to the more efficient fully Water Cooled design which may end up cost them in buyer numbers....
  20. Yep,, IMHO too @Freebird made a good point brother - definitely something to consider!! Thanks for the input Neil!
  21. ,, :bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie::bikersmilie: Oh those V-4 fired little arrows,,, I'm falling in love again,, falling in love again,,,,, little arrows in my clothing little arrows in my hair:173:... All because of you Duey those little arrows are EVERYWHERE!! P.S. = I STILL find it down right amazing how an old designed teeny little 1000cc liter bike can develop 199 HP (Suky GIXXER)- WOWZY WOW WOW WOW = THAT IS INCREDIBLE IMHO!! THANKs Duey,, my V-4 LOVIN backside needed this = thought the platform was all washed = obviously,, not so much!!! Think I go unplug Maggie my R1 from her battery tender and see if we're still on speakin terms.. Ya done inspired me bother!! Puc
  22. Been patiently waiting and they FINALLY did it = the Drum Mag for my AR12 is FINALLY out!! Kind of pricey though: https://www.classicfirearms.com/promag-mka-a1-20rd-drum-mka1919/ Still not sure why I need to rapid fire 20 rounds out of that thing anyway,, aint seen no Zombies since 1976,,, BUT,, I do know there are arquements coming from the gun room between the AR's in there about who has a drum and who dont... Probably gonna have to pick one of these AR12 Drum feeders up just to keep the peace in the gun room
  23. Also,, you might wanna swap in some new plugs once you figure out whats going on Dancer,, IMHO - these little "D" plugs dont take to kindly to being blackened by over fueling of any form...
  24. Shorts? Your talking to someone who likes to ride Necked Roller,,, where I;m going I dont even need short's GOOD POINT THOUGH BROTHER!! After reading @Freebirds response and having reread Neil's report (they are the only two Varmints that I have met in person who are contributing to the delima), the thought popped into my mind of maybe the riders inseam length has something to do with it,, if its real at all... If a person has shorter legs then a longer legged person, the closeness to the pipe could change. I know that Neil is somewhat shorter in height than Don is,, just some thoughts..
  25. Dancer,, to my untrained pea brain (never owned or worked on an RSV like yours) what you are describing here right from the get go sounds like the classic stuck or sticking or set to high float, right down to the not having to use the choke, runs great ones it clears out and warms up and even the leaky carbs you spoke of. What happens (in some cases IMHO) is the valve that controls the amount of fuel into the bowls gets worn or gets a small blockage holding it open (not allowing the float to do its job) and the carbs will overfill. The over fill results in a flooding condition which will cause the bike to run fat (to much fuel) until it uses the excess fuel out of the carb(s) up and, because we are talking flooded with fuel at start up = no choke is needed and as a matter of fact = using the choke actually adds to the fuel soaked intake of air/fuel mixture being drawn in. Does any of that make sense or is this another one of those "dont try to follow Puc,, no one can understand him" deals? All that said, I gotta ask ya,, did you replace the Float Valves when you rebuilt the carbs? If not,, there is a good chance that they will need replacement. If so, did you double check your float height adjustments before buttoning her up? If not, and it were mine,, I would hook up some form of a line level (old Trademens term for a clear tube filled with fluid to use as a level) to the drains, open up the drains and see where the fuel comes to rest.. You might discover that you are still dealing with float valve control, a saturated float (did you replace those when you rebuilt?) or even a missed adjustment there.. Just some thoughts but please remember who shared em (not always a good thing to listen to "Puc advice" ).. All the best in figuring it out Dancer!! Puc
