I did a fair amount of digging, testing, measuring, trying to get a CT for my 83 to work and never was successful as back before we were unable to chase Jack Rabbits across the hot deserts of the U.S., I was spooning on a new tire x3 just for a few weeks of fun. I had pretty much given up completely and then I bumped into Jakester (see vid) out in Sturgis with one mounted on his Wing.. :cool10: about it, I did follow up with a shot at the CT he was running and found out, once again, that the MK1's just don't have the clearance for a CT (at least that is what 35 years of spinning wrenches on these things turned up in my case). I am wondering if others have found the same and that that is the reason you are not being successful in your searching ND:detective:.. I do think the one in the video was the closest I had found to fitting and got a hunch that with some modding, that tire could be made to function..

I'm the lop eared odd ball varmint around the club who has never really been impressed with Seafoam. I did a bench test with carb cleaners once and Seafoam came in dead last = even after soaking shallacked carb parts for a solid week in pure Seafoam = the stuff did virtually nothing in actually cleaning parts. I have also done the customary Seafoam for storage routine as I know my bikes did seem to run better with Seafoam as a fuel mix but I have even stopped doing that as I have also found a "sheen" on my plugs after running Seafoam that caused my plugs to develop a not so pretty and sharp spark on the plugs. I have also had some not so good experiences thru the years when using any brand but NGK's in my bikes, especially the "D" (small diameter) plugs in my 1st Gens,, this even wayyy worse in running bikes with "C" plugs like found in the little Honda's.. IMHO, if the bike were mine Fulltime, I would start the diagnoses by making sure I had a full tank of fresh fuel in it. I would also check my tank vent as it sounds like its possible that your scoot is running lean as it runs out in R's and is draining the bowls. I would then open the drains on the carbs, cycle the fuel pump a few times to make sure you dont have an intermittent fuel pump issue and to pump the fresh fuel thru the carbs. I would then swap in some normal new NGKS, nothing fancy schmazy - just NGK DPR's. I'd also unscrew the caps, check em over real close for carbon tracking and ohm em out to make sure their spec and clip 1/4 inch on the wires to make sure the caps have a good clean wire to screw back onto. Next I would uncover the battery and check battery connections, hook up my volt meter and check the battery voltage. If that looked good, I would cycle the fuel pump a few times to make sure the bowls are full by cycling the pump to it slowly stops. Move the choke to choke, not touch the throttle, hit the starter and glance down at the volt meter to check the Reg/Stator at idle. As the bike warmed for a few seconds I would begin sneaking the choke off, checking the header tempts in the process to make sure shes hitting on all four. When obvious she's starting to warm up as I drop the choke off (IMHO, the quicker you can get the scoot off choke the better as D plugs dont take to kindly to blackining from over choke) I would tap the throttle and glance at the Volt meter still hooked to the battery to make sure she's jumping to full output as it should be (low voltage across the system can cause exactly the symptons you describe). I'd tap it up off idle a bunch of times watching the voltmeter as I did just to double check output consistency. Satisfied with all the above, I'd toss the vac gauges on er and check sync, then I would take er out for a test ride and see if she was healed.. Make sense?

Tweeksis's back side is covered with Shinko Tourmaster 230 stickers from the Shinks she's retired across the miles ( thanks again @videoarizona for turning me on to the Shinks) .. GOOD tires for rain, sleet, snow, desert, twisties and beyond. I was always impressed with the $ deals on em too. I dont think I ever paid more than 75 bucks for one shipped to the door.. Only downfall is they arent the longest wearing tires, not the worst though either by a long shot.. She was getting around 5kish on the rear on our ride style.. Easy tire to spoon on and off though.. Speaking of jacks,, here's a quick vid of how easy it is to use a normal bike jack on an RSV.. If you listen carefully I think you can even get inch measurements for clipping the spacers to Sky :

My cousin Chip thought I might need an uplift and posted this on my facebook timeline.. It worked, nothing like a reminder of the peacefulness and beauty of tossing a tent a few miles back in the deserts of Utah to help restore some calmness to a weary soul.. THANKS CHIP!! -

This is so sad,, it's sad beyond words,, thats how sad it really is.. IMHO, both Sly and DJ are onto some of the reasons why it is what it is: As part of a thesis I had to do to escape the throngs of College education so I could obtain a sheepskin so I could earn a good living so I could provide for my family, I had to go out and interview some prominent people and write about the interviews. I landed an interview with Judge Mike Kobza. In that interview, Judge Kobza started explaining to me about some of the cases he had presided over. As the discussion went on it occurred to me that he kept referring to "the epidemic of broken homes we have in our country". I actually stopped my recorder at one point, looked at the Judge and said "off the record and just between you and me, can you seriously make a link between broken homes, kids without Dads or Moms and criminal activity?". His answer about knocked me off my chair.. He said "you can turn that thing back on as I can, on record, state that over 90% of the people locked up in our correctional facility are from broken homes :scared:".. As far as Sly's comment of "we need God back in our country and NOW" goes: IMHO, I agree. For some reason we have lost the reality of our need for The Lord and His connection with the wholesomeness of being "One Nation, Under God". We have lost the reality of the simple fact that God is real and, because of this, we have lost the reality of the fact that so is evilness. That Satan really does roam about like a roaring lion searching for souls to devour. I know thats hard to hear.. I get that, but facts are facts and until we face the truth and facts before us head on and, as individuals, deal with those facts head on, IMHO = things are only gonna get worse, not better. This battle and the loss of human life that comes with it is actually a war between good and evil. Our Politicians have for years danced around the real issues with their continual reterich of = "it's a guns fault, it's our educational systems fault, its pressure cookers fault, it's a car's fault". One can hope and pray that sooner or later (hopefully, for the sake of our children, its sooner rather than later) we will elect people who are smart enough and brave enough to step forward and call a spade a spade and be willing to face the truth head and be willing to take the actions necessary to upright the ship we are all sailing on... Prayers Up that that takes place. Sad,, really sad..

Just a quick update here before we head out the door,, the Hospice Dr's just gave our family notice that it appears my little brother is in the 24 hour window ... Prayers Up brothers and sisters,, pretty please... Thanks again for ALL your loving and continual support thru these very difficult waters!! Luv each of you! Puc n Tip @VentureFar ,, I apologize for not getting an email off to you thru all of this.. Your thoughts, prayers and actions were soo much appreciated when your brother (me) lost his Dad not long ago. I want you to know that I will be wearing my treasured Wrist Band that you made for me today. Please remember Tip and I on your prayer list today my brother!! Love, miss and THANK YOU!! Puc -
We talkin tweekin on your 86 (the one that listed in your AV?) BC? If so, IMHO, the flashing battery light is actually sensed off the battery itself thru the little drop in acid rod that feeds to the CMU. It's not really monitoring or sensing voltage and much use for identifing stator/reg issues other than long term over cooking the acid thru high voltage.. For actual testing/monitoring the stator/reg charging system you need to monitor it with the volt gauge on the bike (works ok as long as its working properly) or with a hand held volt/ohm meter (best way). To get that confounded lite to quit blinking will probably take some xtra yakkin Any of this make sense?

please help, what would you do?
cowpuc replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Absolutely PERFECTLY @Prairiehammer!! PERFECTLY! Now maybe combine those with that pic of the complete tranny arrowed out and then we petition @Marcarl or the Boss (@Freebird) to stick em in the read only library (if they arent already there) for future reference?? As always Kev,, YOU DO NICE WORK:thumbsup:!! THANK YOU MY BROTHER!!! Puc -

cowpuc replied to made2care's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Kev,, IMHO - ya know what would be really really cool? If someday you were looking for something to do, you would take that last picture that shows the complete tranny and draw lines/arrows on it pointing to the locations of: 1. Thrust washer that wears on the Mk1's that causes 2nd gear failure. 2. 2nd gear "ramps/engagement dogs" that suffer wear because of the loss of tolerance do to the thrust washer failure.. What say you my brother @Prairiehammer? -
You lop eared varmints are in BIG TROUBLE now!! Birdie and I just spent a wholeee week together,, I taught him a few things and he did me.. One of the things I learned from the little feller was how to properly wake up in the morning. I got addicted to his method and fell in love with his wake up song (that he loved to snuggle between Gramma and Grampa and watch/squiggle to).. Just an FYI,, expect to see this video in response to your endless GREAT idea's around here

Aint heard from @Flyinfool for a spell.. Kind of like a lively 2 year old (just finished having our 2 year old grandson for a week, I speak from current experience here), when things go silent = somethings up NICE FOOL,, REALLY REALLY NICE!

,, maybe the premium setup would be to swap on a Gen 1 MK1 rear brake assembly and then do the R1 front brake swapperoni routine brother!! That way the rider would learn quickly to use/depend on the front brake for 99.9 percent of his braking applications (as we should be doing anyway IMHO) and using the non-existent rear braking charachtoristics of the MK1 just for high speed cornering (trail braking) applications I still don't get why Mom Yam quit listening to our clubs suggestions @Condor,, we are a creative bunch of lop eared intelligent varmints I tell ya!!

Now for something entirely different
cowpuc replied to zagger's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I tried numerous extended fork options thru the years from just extenting the tubes to Springers and even a couple Grasshoppers (pic of sporty below is a Grasshopper = very easy to build a DIMS = love the look, hate the ride). Bar none, the very best tourer chop I produced was the black Honda on a Santee Softride frame with the 16" over Springer = WOWZY WOW WOW WOW did it ride = best hiway riding scoot I ever had = Springers not only ride off the rockers but the "flex" in the "tubes" make for an amazing soft, pillow like ride = just beautiful!! IMHO, the key to getting a good handling long bike is to set the "trail" as close to zero as you can get it (especially if going more than 10 over) without going into negative trail (causes MAJOR tank slapper problems = not safe!). Over trail is not quite so unbearable/unridable, it just makes the front end "heavy" and want to flop when slow speed riding and/or parking = just hang on to the bars and you can totally control the flop = totally stable once the gyro effect kicks in from spinning wheels. When cutting the frame to rake one so the bike sits parellel and dont look goofy (or end up top heavy) because the frame is not raked (see pic of Craigslist scoot in link to get an idea of what I am speaking of) properly, just be careful and take your time measuring trail as you rake it, get the trail 1/2 to 1/4" inch off zero before you weld er up and you'll be fine, IMHO of course. https://holland.craigslist.org/mcy/d/holland-1997-harley-davidson-softail/6877873764.html -
!988 Venture Royale possibility: Opinions requested.
cowpuc replied to luvmy40's topic in Watering Hole
I say GO FOR IT and build a Chop or a Franky bike of your design!! Having built numerous "one off's" thru the years I can honestly say that ground up builds are some of the most memorable times I ever had between man and machine!! DO IT Luv,, JUST DO IT!!! -
This is yet another reason why I LOVE running HISTORIC PLATES on my vehicles! Being good for many years (I think Tweeks plates expire in 2026), they give me that continued motivation to watch my step on that rocky hill side, yes, but to keep on stepping anyway way I can, even if it's just baby steps (no more touring, just buzzing around town showing off her stickers) Hey Sly,, check out my sig! Stoled your line brother,, :scratchchin:hope it's OK?

Engine noise possibly timing chain slap?
cowpuc replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Here ya go Piff,, have one on ol Pucster,, glad to help.. Concerning the noise,, IMHO that does not sound like cam chain slop to my untrained ears, it almost sounds like cam journal wear. What I have seen happen is an OHC engine sets for a long while in storage, say +5 years. The top end dries out, the line bored cam journals become vulnerable to galling on start up because the oil pump cant push lube in quick enough when unsuspecting new owner sticks in new battery and starts it = only takes a few revolutions on the cam's at start up to gall the aluminum journals the cams set in. It's not uncommon for there to be no shavings in oil, the galling becomes more of smeared aluminum on the journals. The cam(s) bounce up in down in the journals making a rattle sound that can get quieter with raised "R"s and as oil pressure increases. I have actually rebuilt SOHC 750 Honda's that have had this happen so badly that the cam siezed and split in half. I have repurposed numerous Honda SOHC's for Chop builds and ALWAYS prelube top ends of those (and any other long term storage engine) to give them a fighting chance of being a worthy engine pre tear down and rebuild. IMHO, the little Honda XR80 and 100 are the worst of the worst at developing the scenario I just explained. It was so common that Honda Inc finally put a little oil plug in the oil passage on the jug right above the Spark Plug. On oil change the owner is suppose to remove this plug, kick the engine over until oil drips from the oil plug then replace plug. This often over looked little test assures oil to the line bored cam journals at start up and checks to make sure the oil pump is functioning.. Anyway,, here's the vid,, hope this helps: -
